My Windsor Heights Ocha location has been seeing a little less traffic lately... My guess is it's because the choices for boba are increasing on the West side and in the metro in general. This will always by my go to spot! My daughter and I both prefer it to any of the others... New or old. Absolutely love Aom and Nick (the owners) and the staff is always great here! The Hokkaido with less ice, 50% sugar, and with coffee jelly is my standard order. It's so good I can't see that ever changing...and I sure hope I never have to change it up. I drug my girlfriends in. I excitedly told them about the location in Ankeny that I have started to go to. They were a little reluctant at first. This was due to the stereotype of the tapioka being in most Bubble drinks. I was happy to educate them a little and let them know that is not the case. This location was busy for a Wed evening. There was only 2 in front of us as we walked in. We were a group of 4 and then 4 more followed us in. It becomes very cramped quickly in the small space of this location. The young lady behind the counter was all smiles. Super friendly and easy to order with. She was putting in the orders and a gentleman was making them as fast as he could. I got the Lavander milk tea with the poppies in it. I really liked this option and I think I would I get it again in a heartbeat. My girlfriends all tried something different, and all really enjoyed their purchases. I think I might have turned them onto it. Its all so yummy. I wanted to try something new for dessert so I looked up places in the area and found this one. I tried the thai tea flavored Bingsu with lychee jellies and condensed milk. There are so many topping options to choose from I will have to try a new one each time I'm there. It was good, with just the right amount of sweetness. It took about 5-6 minutes for them to make. Inside is nice and with limited seating, I took mine to go. It was definitely nice and quiet inside when I went as well. If you're in the area stop by and try it. Full disclosure...I did receive a complimentary dessert and drink as a part of the event. I am a dessert and sweets lover, so looked forward to trying a Thai Dessert and flavored tea at a new restaurant. The atmosphere is quite basic, in a strip mall in front of Sam's Club, with concrete floors and minimal tables, chairs and wall decor (see pictures). However, a great new stop for a variety of teas and Thai desserts - if you like lighter versions of desserts, you owe it to yourself to give this place a try. The food and service were outstanding. I needed some help in understanding the options and completing my order, but the kind lady at the register was very helpful in stepping me through the process. The Mango flavored Jasmine Green Tea (see picture) was delivered almost immediately and tasted great - definite mango flavor and sweet, but not overly sugary. While the Pang Ping (see picture) took a little longer than I would have expected to prepare, it was delivered to my table while it was warm and delicious. Think of it as a thick piece of Thai sweet bread that is lightly toasted, with your chosen flavors on the outside. I've been going to Ocha since they first opened in Windsor Heights and it's always been super good! It's a cute c minimal cafe with limited seating but it's a great place to grab a quick drink and snack. I got their season special: Pumpkin Spice Brûlée, it had all the flavors of a pumpkin spice latte but I wish there was some more of the brûlée part. They didn't have the toasted top or Carmel taste I was hoping for. But it was still good. We also got the Brown Sugar Bubble tea, it's a classic and never fails. Sweet, Carmel, brown sugar molasses taste with a thick creamy oat milk. The new item desserts that we got where the Croffels on a stick! I got the strawberries on a lid and the other was the Strawberry chocolate. Highly highly recommend the croffels! It's crispy buttery croissant that's pressed in a waffle so you have the crispy grooves to capture the cream and chocolate! Perfection! The cream on the strawberries on a cloud is semi thick, not like buttercream or light like whipped cream, it was a nice fluffy balance of both. And the chocolate on the other is hazelnut Nutella. I have been a fan of this place since it first opened. Not only because they have the best and most unique boba drinks in town, but also because Aom, the owner, and her staff are always so friendly and welcoming. I stopped by today for a Yelp event and they really knocked it out of the park. I usually get a flavored milk tea or smoothie, but I wanted to try something different today so I ordered a Strawberry Fresh Milk drink. It was very good and refreshing and it wasn't overly sweet, unlike drinks at most of the boba tea places I've tried. It had bits of strawberries at the bottom with a yummy strawberry purée. It went perfectly with the whole milk. You can also get it with other types of milk. I also ordered a Strawberry in the Clouds Croffle. It's supposed to be a cross between a croissant and a waffle and that's indeed what it was. It looks kind of like a waffle so I was expecting it to be heavy and dense like a waffle, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find how light, airy and flaky it was when I took my first bite. It was amazingly delicious! It does take about 10-15 minutes for them to make but it was well worth the wait. If you're looking for an unusual dessert that tastes like heaven, you've got to try this. The croffles come with several different toppings. I just love the variety of unique drinks and desserts they have here. They're so unlike any other place in town. Went here for the first time for a Yelp event and I am so glad! My boyfriend and I got the jasmine green milk tea and I got hokkaido milk tea at 25% sweet. Both were just the right amount of sweetness and so creamy. Love that the hokkaido comes with a nondairy cream. The boba were perfectly soft and chewy. For dessert my boyfriend got strawberry on a cloud chaffle and it was super fresh from the iron and delicious. I got a taro shaved ice and let me tell you this was an absolute win. I got mini mochi and popping mango for toppers and I enjoyed every chewy bite. Will definitely be back for that on warm days or when I need a little icy pick-me-up. read more

When we arrived, we were greeted by someone behind the counter. Once we checked in for the Yelp Event, we spent quite a bit of time looking over the menu. My partner was very excited to see that shaved ice was on the menu and she knew she had to get that! I ordered the jasmine green milk tea with brown sugar Boba and the Strawberry on a Cloud Croffle. The Boba itself was fresh and the tea was perfect, not too sweet! I did order it less sweet on purpose so I do recommend doing that! The Croffle was the perfect crispy yet chewy pastry with a lovely flavor profile and the whipped topping and strawberries were excellent. The Taro Shaved Ice was delicious and worth the wait for it to be made! We topped it with Mango boba and baby mochi balls and oh my goooosh. We will be coming back specifically for these shaved ice desserts. My only critique would be the lack of available seating BUT that may not be an issue most days as people take it to go frequently. Great for any day, season and time. Delicious boba and desert place. My husband and I tried this a couple weeks ago. We both definitely loved it. I got a mango/ passion fruit slushy with mango jellies and he got a mango/kiwi slushy with mango jellies. Both were delicious, refreshing and just plain satisfying. I then went the next day after my nail appointment at trust nails for a almond brown sugar milk tea with coffee jellies. That was just the perfect mid day pick me up for this pregnant lady. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try for the first time because they have more than just bubble tea here. Which is nice to see and easy to recommend to everyone. Heard from the owner that the lines were so long that they blocked the front of every shop in the plaza. WOW!! And rightfully so! It was DEE-LISH. Fantastic boba edition to the Windsor Heights and Des Moines community. Ocha [òh-chá] means tea in Japanese. During COVID19 review: Great pandemic protocol. I was pleasantly surprised how they allowed 5 patrons at a time in the shop. Social distancing was very important here. 3 Employees in shop. All masked. All patrons at the time of visiting were masked. Even children. Hand sanitizer was visible at pay counter. Payment system uses a touch screen. Service was very nice. Quick for milk tea and regular tea service. Bingsu Korean shaved ice took a while to make. Boba was made very nicely! I love how soft they make it. Awesome options! I appreciate how there are plant based/vegan milk options!!!! My little girls didn't want tea and were excited for the shaved ice. We ordered 1 large fruit tea, 1 lemon slush, 1 bingsu Korean shaved ice. Total was $20.xx $1.00 Upcharge for large size cup with boba in fruit tea. $0.50 Upcharge for boba or other toppings. First, I am ECSTATIC that we have a bingsu spot in the DSM area. I hope more spots will pop up soon. :) At first glance through the menu, I was disappointed that only a limited number of items allowed adjustment for sugar levels. My fiancé ordered the matcha milk tea, 50% sugar, regular ice. It was pretty good--although, I would've loved to try a fruit tea with less sugar. Of course we also got the bingsu: mango shaved ice, strawberry, mango, lychee jelly, and I requested for less condensed milk than normal. The bingsu was delicious, as expected! But, I wish they had more fruit toppings. They could really use kiwis, melon balls, pineapples, etc. After some consideration, I plan to return and give their fruit teas a try to compare with other local bubble tea locations. Visited Ocha for the first time after a friend recommended it. I am a fan of Boba but was intrigued by the options my friend mentioned they had. We went on a Thursday afternoon and they were surprisingly busy! Like multiple people ordering or waiting consistently while we were there - A good sign! Like I mentioned above, they have a lot of options for tea. It is sort of "build your own", rather than set flavor options. I REALLY appreciated two things, that they actually have on the menu, - An ice option (less, regular, more) and a sweetness option (no, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125%). Umm LOVE because my desire for sweetness has diminished since getting older and I will say that sometimes boba teas are just too sweet. Also, who always orders "less ice" in any drink - me! Their tea options range from regular to fruit to milk. They also have smoothies and slushies. The one other item I wasn't planning on trying but was intrigued was the bingsu (Korean style shaved ice). I got the pink snow with gummies, fruit loops, whip cream, and a waffle cone piece. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was very good, especially with the whip and the fruit loops - I could do without the gummies, only because they got cold, hard, and difficult to chew. Overall, not bad but the drinks are /wayyyyy/ too sweet even after you adjust the sugar level. A few friends had told me this before we checked it out. Knowing this, I ordered the Hokkaido milk tea with 0 percent sugar and grass jelly and this was the perfect amount of sweetness for me. Most places I can get away with ordering drinks 30-50% sweet and it's fine, but I would say Ocha is definitely still on the sweeter side. The other people I was with ordered their drinks with full sugar (one lavender, one Hokkaido milk tea) and they had a difficult time drinking it because of how painfully sweet it was. Service was quick and friendly and the staff were good at following Covid safety guidelines. As a native Californian we have a lot of really good boba shops back in LA so when I came to visit Iowa I mentally prepared myself for an average food and bev experience. They have a good sized menu with a variety of options so I'm sure theres a drink for anyone on there. The staff was also super friendly. If you haven't been, you can always ask for their recommendation on the sweetness level of the drinks because they seem to run more on the sweet side. I ordered a Hokkaido Milk Tea with boba at 50% sweet per the worker's recommendation & my boyfriend got the Mango Green Tea with boba at 100% sweetness. Both were super yummy! I ended up swapping drinks with him because we both liked each other drinks more LOL. We also order the Strawberry on the Clouds Croffle which was soooo yummy! Great fluffy crunchy texture & fresh whipped cream & strawberries. Worth the wait (which is only like 10-12 min to make). The place itself is super cute & chill inside.
