A small coffee shop that could be missed if you didn't know it was there. I love spots like this - a hidden find. The Yelp reviews drew us here on our way through town and we ordered a variety of drinks: americano, chai, and cinnamon oat milk lattes. And we ordered a variety of food: breakfast burritos, chocolate muffin, Rice Krispie treat, and blueberry scone. The coffees were good. The chai was mostly milk, though very creamy. The pastries were very good, but the breakfast burritos weren't much - very little filling to call them burritos. All in all, this is a great little find. read more

This is a very cute, rustic style cafe that offers dine-in and drive through. They have lots of drinks and some breakfast/cafe type food (breakfast burrito, quiche, muffins, scones, etc.). Service was wonderful. I ordered a large coffee drink for $4.75ish but ended up paying around $6, which was confusing to me. This happens a lot at coffee shops and I don't understand why. Also was unpleased that they use styrofoam cups for both to-go and dine-in drinks. read more

Stopped by this place with the expectation of some sort of halfway decent food and coffee. My expectations were shattered when I received the worst coffee I've ever had and my breakfast sandwich was most definitely a jimmy dean heated up in the microwave. You'd think the prices would maybe make this place worth it on some level, however my total was more than if I had gone to Starbucks. First time here going through the drive thru for breakfast. I was greeted by the kindest woman and ordered a medium oatmilk latte and blueberry scone. Latte was smooth and creamy (WOW). The scone was a little hard/dry and had dry blueberries but still edible. I don't think I would get a scone again. The cinnamon rolls were sold out so I am sure those are great. It's like stepping into your grandmothers kitchen! No frills, cozy, and welcoming. Staff is friendly, but it's very mellow so you won't have someone checking in on you all the time like a regular restaurant. This is what makes this place special though. I had some work to focus on and was able to do that here without interruption. Locals come in and out all morning and recognized by the staff and owner by name. So cool that this kind of service still exists! Coffee was tasty (I had their regular black coffee and strength level was perfect). I also had their breakfast sandwich: small brioche bun, one over hard egg, one piece of bacon, and one slice American cheese. It was small but perfect and made fresh! At the owner's recommendation, I also tried their homemade cinnamon roll. So so good! A must try! He also recommended their breakfast burrito which is also made fresh here, but that would've been too much food for me. It's a great reason to come back though . I love to support local businesses and not sure why I hadn't stopped by here before. They've been in business a long time and I can see why. We'll be back for sure! read more

I stop by on my way to work once a week. They have a wide variety of coffee-I usually get the latte. The shining star for me though are the cinnamon rolls! Get there early though-they tend to sell out. They are SO worth it! read more

The staff was very friendly and personable and willing to make suggestions. Got a pastry which was fresh and tasted good and an iced latte. The latte was good, pretty standard. The atmosphere is an old fashioned cozy; kind of like stepping into the 90s in a good way. They have a drive thru as well. read more

I've been wanting to try different Coffee shops in the area, and my most recent visit was to La Barista. I'll start with the coffee. I got a blended drink, Carmel Crunch, and it was delicious. Blended the right amount and had just the right amount of sweetness. They also have breakfast items. Breakfast burritos, quiche, and pastries. I only thing I got this visit was a slice of banana bread. It was good. Nothing fancy. The inside reminded me of a small town coffee shop. Very charming. Not a lot of seating inside, so when it got busy a good amount of people got coffee and left. Most of the seating had outlets as well. As a side note, if you want to use credit, it's a $3 minimum. Most of their drinks are over $3, but if you want just a cup of coffee, you'll need cash. read more

La Barista is an amazing local coffee cafe. The owner is genuine and will address regulars by their name. The staff is always smiling and courteous. The coffee is always hot and fresh. I get the chicken salad croissant for lunch often. It is homemade there at La Barista and is creamy and a tad sweet. My children always get the muffins or the burritos and love them both! I was only visiting the Des Moines area for a short time, but, luckily, I was able to stop by La Barista Coffee and grab a Vanilla Iced Latte. My friends and I pulled through the drive thru and were preasantly surprised at how quickly we made it to the window, ordered, and received our drinks (there were 5 of us). Each of us ordered something different and we all enjoyed our drinks. The barista was very polite and friendly. We were all delighted to see some drinks on the menu that you don't see at most coffee shops. I can't wait until I am in Des Moines again and can stop by for another cup of coffee. read more

This review is long overdue - La Barista is a favorite spot of mine in West Des Moines. Everyone is so friendly and it's a great place to go in the mornings when I need somewhere to sit down and plan out my day. If I'm in a hurry, the drive-thru is great too! All of the food is fresh, between baked goods and hot breakfast items, there's something for everyone. My wife and I got there just as they were closing (Noon), so the food items were pretty well gone -- we just had coffee. The coffee was very good and the service was fine. We plan to go back and try the breakfast burrito. We give a four star rating rather than a five because we have not tried the food items.
