My seven year old had the day off school so we came with a friend and his mom. We had a one hour reservation for 9:00am. Google mapped me to behind the building, where there's no sign that I could find, so that was a little frustrating. But once in the front, it was easy to find. Parking was easy to find. You walk through the door and into the cafe area. There's an ordering counter and tables to sit. There's also a bar top to sit and watch the cats. The cat area is enclosed with walls and large windows. We checked in just outside the cat area and signed a waiver. Once inside the cat area, there were plenty of places to sit or walk around to the cats. Also plenty of toys to play with the cats. Rules were posted on the wall and a binder full of the cat names and information. Some cats were sleeping, others were all about playing, and others liked our laps. A cat personality for everyone. One of the cats were fortunate to be adopted that day so we got to see the new owners take the cat home. There were also a couple of people cleaning the area from Goodwill. They were friendly and mostly stayed out of the way. We grabbed a coffee, smoothie, and cat sugar cookie after our time in the cat area. All of them were yummy!

Such a great idea! Coffee is great, and the separate cat play area was well worth the money to go in and spend time with the cats. They have adopted over 1400 cats over the last four years. What a wonderful mission. Valley Junction is a great area!

This place is purrfect. Some of my favorite coffee in town after trying a dozen places. But it's more affordable than most shops, and they have cats. It's my favorite store.

A few months ago I adopted (Frank) formerly known as Oscar and have never regretted the decision, but before that I have been coming here for the past year. The staff is great and you can tell they truly care about these animals futures. The coffee is always great and most times better than a lot of chains in Des Moines. Every time I've entered the cat room I've been greeted by a couple friendly cats who want ALL the attention and then get to enjoy a full experience with kitties who either want to play or enjoy a good lap nap. Occasionally one might try to bite but they are cats surrounded by 20 other cats at the end of the day so that's kinda to be expected. I would highly recommend coming here if you're in the Des Moines area or if you live here and love cats!

We had a ton of fun going to Coffee Cats and plan on going again. Stop in, buy a coffee, and play with adoptable cats for just $5!

Last night, my beloved calico sphynx, Thea, escaped from her absolute prison of a loving, very…read morespoiled household to go on a neighborhood adventure. Thankfully, the neighbors found her not long after and she was delivered to Furry Friends. I was hysterical and bawling after posting her missing on Facebook and a close friend told me where she was jailed. I immediately called, sent her documentation, and cried on the phone partly in worry and partly in relief. Furry Friends not only released her to me and we bailed her out, but during after hours. We re-microchipped her for a fraction of the price of the vet and they definitely didnt do any cruel or unusual punishment to my felon of a daughter. She is now home, safe, warm, and on house arrest. Here is her mugshot. She may never show again now that she has a record. She is also getting a GPS tracker (equivalent to an ankle monitor) as well as her sphynx sister. For an exotic breed lover, I am SO THANKFUL to Furry Friends for their clean, tidy facility and loving demeanor with understanding how incredibly upset I was.

Wow the irony in all the poor reviews isn't surprising. My friend Jamie just adopted 3 cats from…read morethere and two started immediately having issues. One got better and one has had on going problems since she got it. She tried taking it to the vet but still nothing helped. when she politely reached out to the manager and asking if she can return the one, the manager was a snot and very demeaning. Making Jamie feel like she was a crappy pet owner and having to defend herself. Thankfully I am not as sweet as her and have no problem speaking my mind. She is the sweetest person and the way they made her feel angers me. The manager then decided to show up at her place sunday afternoon and ask for the cat back? Bizarre and not sure i've ever heard of that happening. Probably because there's no reason to ever do that. Just poor managment and a poorly ran business. Would never ever recommend them.

I'm not sure why all the reviews for this PetSmart are so terrible because I have only high praises…read morefor this location and the staff. Thankfully these reviews have not deterred people from coming here because they are always busy. The services I've used so far are: 1) Grooming- They have great groomers and they always take good care of my pup who is 3.5 pounds and can get squirmish when he gets his nails trimmed. I tried to do it myself and it was too difficult so I appreciate their staff doing it for me. They also were able to accommodate by request for a no scent shampoo for my pups bath. The yappy hours they offer at $5 off are the best! 2) Pet Training- Allison is a fantastic trainer. She taught the 6 week puppy class and she was so friendly, patient and understanding. My schedule made it difficult to attend all 6 sessions and she was so accommodating to reschedule us into a session so that we could continue the lessons without major disruption. The training also affords my pup extra opportunities to socialize and the extra distractions from the other pups help to put my dog in more of a real world environment where he has to learn to listen to me with distractions. In the puppy/beginner class we learned verbal and hand signal cues for: sit, focus, touch, click to calm, loose leash walk (lets go, this way), down (lay down), shake (or paw), sit-down-sit, sit-touch-halter, leave it, wait, come when called, greet when all feet are on the ground, and much more. The other trainer Lisa is super nice and always willing to give me feedback on how my pup did during the day at day care. 3) Petshotel- I needed to board my pup for 11 days. I called ahead of time to make sure I had all the required vaccinations before his stay. I like that they require vaccination of all the dogs that stay here. The staff here did a fantastic job with taking care of my pup. I was able to get photos of him during his stay since he was staying such a long time. One of the photos was nicely photographed and even displayed his name. I loved it so much I got it developed so I could post it on my wall. My pup never got kennel cough or any other viruses from staying at Petshotel I felt my dog was better behaved after his Petshotel stay because he was better socialized (with people), exhausted (from all the fun), and stopped his constant whining (which really bothered me but I couldn't figure out how to stop it). I would not hesitate to bring him to Petshotel again. 4) Doggie Day Camp- I was worried my dog was not getting enough socialization with people and other dogs. I didn't want him turning into a lap dog and have separation anxiety issues so I enrolled him in day camp. Again, I am glad that dogs that play here must be vaccinated. Day camp was one of the best decisions I've made because my dog is now really confident and isn't scared of other dogs. The staff here went out of their way to watch over my dog on his first day to make sure he adjusted well to the other dogs. He is not only a small breed dog but was the runt of his litter (at 3.5 pounds) and staff went above and beyond to ensure my pup had a good experience with the other small breed dogs. My pup excelled from this experience and had so much fun. He came back exhausted and more well mannered (in my opinion). I like how they can feed him lunch (with my food from home) while he is at camp so he is not starving throughout the day. I also really appreciate the late hours the day camp stays open so I don't need to rush over after work.

Fine to get food and supplies at, but the grooming services are really hit or miss. Sometimes…read moreyou'll get a really nice job, and other times you'll get an angry, still wet cat.
