What a lovely place! my daughter J and I went in, she had a coffee and I had an Italian soda. you do have to pay a small fee to go hang out with the cats, but I highly recommend it. The cats were great. staff was lovely. the cat area was very relaxing. you could sit in there and read a book with a furry friend. read more

My seven year old had the day off school so we came with a friend and his mom. We had a one hour reservation for 9:00am. Google mapped me to behind the building, where there's no sign that I could find, so that was a little frustrating. But once in the front, it was easy to find. Parking was easy to find. You walk through the door and into the cafe area. There's an ordering counter and tables to sit. There's also a bar top to sit and watch the cats. The cat area is enclosed with walls and large windows. We checked in just outside the cat area and signed a waiver. Once inside the cat area, there were plenty of places to sit or walk around to the cats. Also plenty of toys to play with the cats. Rules were posted on the wall and a binder full of the cat names and information. Some cats were sleeping, others were all about playing, and others liked our laps. A cat personality for everyone. One of the cats were fortunate to be adopted that day so we got to see the new owners take the cat home. There were also a couple of people cleaning the area from Goodwill. They were friendly and mostly stayed out of the way. We grabbed a coffee, smoothie, and cat sugar cookie after our time in the cat area. All of them were yummy! read more

Coffee Cats is an up close and personal experience with the cats. They have several chairs and toys, and they allow you to pick up the cats with care, which is great if you're bringing kids. Lattes taste amazing as well! Not as cat-fur-less as some of the other cafes we visited which is why I gave it 4 stars, but still a great place to visit if you love cats! read more

We went to coffee cats while visiting Des Moines and we had such a great time. The coffee was amazing and everyone who worked there was super friendly. They provided a little binder with info on each cat that was in their care and every one of them had their own personality. Toys were provided as well. All of the cats are adoptable and it's just a great space for a date or to relax with some amazing felines. Obviously, cats don't like loud areas, so if you need a wild environment, this isn't for you. Parking was easy and reservations were quick as well. I do wish there was an age limit for kids to come in to play with the cats as someone mentioned in a previous review, but I think that's also on the parents... so 5 stars for Coffee Cats, 1 star for the parents. read more

A few months ago I adopted (Frank) formerly known as Oscar and have never regretted the decision, but before that I have been coming here for the past year. The staff is great and you can tell they truly care about these animals futures. The coffee is always great and most times better than a lot of chains in Des Moines. Every time I've entered the cat room I've been greeted by a couple friendly cats who want ALL the attention and then get to enjoy a full experience with kitties who either want to play or enjoy a good lap nap. Occasionally one might try to bite but they are cats surrounded by 20 other cats at the end of the day so that's kinda to be expected. I would highly recommend coming here if you're in the Des Moines area or if you live here and love cats! read more

Love the concept, but they desperately need an age limit to be in with the cats. Other cafes have limits of 10 and older, or 12 and older. We went in to check out the place and watched a roughly 5-year-old girl practically tormenting the cats. She was chasing them, grabbing them, pulling them out of their hiding places. All of this was done in front of her guardians, who did nothing to stop her. This is not a playground. These are not toys for kids to manhandle. As shelter animals, they need more time to acclimate to the people around them, etc. Of course, not all children are like this, but not all adults are responsible enough to make sure their kids are behaving. read more
