A safe restaurant to go now during COVID 19! I was little concerned about dinning our but Via Mar is taking all precautions to keep us safe from face shields and mast to sanitizing units every 10 feet. Food was incredible! I been coming here for years! Via-mar is great happy hour spot! The drinks are delicious especially the margaritas. They have a wide selection of margaritas under 5bucks! The happy hour is from 4-7 every day and they offer free chips and salsa alongside with bean dip!! (Heaven) The outside karaoke is really popular and fun. Whether alone or with a big group you'll have a good time. I'm a sucker for enchiladas and I have to say I absolutely love getting their enchiladas! They are so mouth watering and cheesy! So this time around I am giving Via-Mar three stars. The service was great. The location was clean. There was no contactless menus. The drinks were good. I had the piña colada's and I must say that the alcohol ratio was good. Not too weak not too strong. The food, I was not very impressed with. Had the jaiva enchiladas and definitely a must pass. Do not recommend this dish to anyone. I had it with the red sauce which had a good taste. The problem was that with every bite all I could taste was nothing but onion. It had large pieces of raw onion. So much onion that there was no jaiva taste whatsoever. I like onion as much as the next person. If called for, yes mixed in my food but in reasonable amounts. I even tried picking some out to see if that would help but not possible. All I can say is that next time I'll be trying something different and that the jaiva enchiladas are being crossed off with a thick, black permanent marker. read more

We decided to visit Via Mar on a Friday. Having been here before, we brought another couple as we raved over the delicious beans that were served along with the chips and salsa. We were greeted by a very nice server named Maria with curly dark blue hair and a friendly smile. She was a good listener, very attentive and knowledgeable about their menu. There was music playing and we were surrounded by TV's playing, Baseball, Soccer and UFC fights... A little something for everyone. Came here after a day at the beach...it was a great day until our food arrived. The waitress put the utensils towards the middle of the table and when I reached to grab it my arm touched the copper handle of my skillet. You don't go to a restaurant thinking that you are going to have a horrible burn. And anyone who has had burns knows the pain. It took my hunger away. The waitress just said that she's gotten them before and disregarded my pain because she's gotten burnt before!? During the summer there is street fair right in front of the restaurant. So you can get your drink on then walk the street fair and listen to music. The food is just ok but their micheladas are really good! And let's be honest, I'll take ok food for a great happy hour! They also give complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip. There is an outdoor patio that is enclosed when it's cold. Perfect for bug groups. There are TVs in both the bar area and outdoor patio. There is also a bar in the patio which is super convenient. They have karaoke outside as well although I dont know the exact hours for when they do karaoke. Overall, it's a cool spot. BEWARE! Becareful when you pay for your meal here. They like to add there own tip without your consent. Look closely at your receipt down at the bottom under order total. I even left an extra $13 tip on the table because i didnt notice until i got home and took a look at the receipt. I felt robbed so i called and confronted them and they didnt even apologize instead the so called manager who said his name was Cesar said its my fault for not checking my receipt prior to leaving and hung up on me. Happy hour is from 3 to 7. The only happy things I'm aware of are; $8 pitchers, $2.95 Margaritas. But if it's 6:45 and and you want to order another pitcher they make you finish the one you have before they bring you another. Their micheladas are soo good at $5.50 each and they come with two shrimp, a slice of lime and a celery stick, like a Mexican antipasto on the rim of your cup. The patio seating is pretty cool, a little like your own cabana, but it also reminded me of the ride at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. ***If you only want to drink, they charge $1.95 for Salsa and chips. We ordered Fiesta de Camarones ($29.95), which is shrimp prepared 5 different ways at 4 shrimp each. They came fried, wrapped in Bacon, in diablo sauces, de ajo and agua chile. The diablo's tasted like canned enchilada sauce. The chile water needed something, maybe more lime. Their beans were good. They do this thing on their receipt called "rounding" which rounds the change to the nearest tenth. All the "rounding" probably adds to a pretty penny at the end of the day. Been coming for a few years now ... They have good Michiladas, come in a large mug and topped off with a fresh shrimp on the rim! I usually have their bacon wrapped shrimp plate - Costa Azul but have tried their Aqua Chiles Oysters - and man those things were GREAT! I am not an oyster fan at all, but do like aqua chiles and this combination is incredible. Give them a try as its your typical oyster tray but each individual oyster topped off with ceviche, one nice sized shrimp and aqua chiles. Make sure you grab a beer to wash down that heat tho - because it sure does have a KICK to it. They have a crazy good happy hour with dollar beers that happens DAILY. Their bar area is cool with a few tables, bar seating, a TV for sports or novelas lol, and an additional tv for camera view of the back parking lot so you can check up on your car. Their outdoor seating is cool and have intimate booths and the service is pretty consistent along with their food - good. Give this place a shot! read more
