While visiting my old stomping grounds, I decided to revisit this place 10 years later and I still think it is a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Food is delicious, authentic, made to order. The beans are different, they are delicious with a different flavor from most Mexican restaurants, they add a twist to the flavor. The Carnitas plate, the Carne Asada plate, the shrimp cocktails are great food choices here. They will adjust the plate as you ask, they try to accommodate to your liking. I would definitely consider this a hidden little gem. I passed by it all the time. It's conveniently located right off of the 10 freeway, you exit, you go straight from the light and boom it's right there! Couldn't be more convenient than that. There's a liquor store across from it, the In-N-Out is across the street, it's a good size parking lot. I loved how the restaurant was decorated, a lot of thought and detail was put into making this place beautiful. I'm a sucker for pictures so having the old Hollywood style photos on the wall were a nice touch. I didn't even realize they had a bar like that in here, I will most definitely come back with some friends. The food was delicious I ordered to go Chilaquiles's and asked if I can have chicken added which they were nice enough to do so for me. The food was alright, definitely not worth 22 dollars for a carne asada plate but it's just like homemade food flavor. I've been to other Mexican restaurants like la barca restaurantes and they have better high quality meat and cook the carne asada to absolute perfection I love it. The service is alright, it's honestly kinda a little understaffed, the waiter is always busy so you have to call them, they don't come to you, but at least their friendly, and provide you with anything you want when you call them over. read more

We ordered tacos about 50 dollars worth. I have not been to La Fogata for about 10 years I had to have those great tacos I remember. Boy I was so disappointed . The Cabesa Tacos all Fat hardly any salsa over cooked so were all the other tacos. Not eatable. I threw my tacos on the Garbage. To make matters worse the tacos were so over priced for the bad overcooked meat they gave at the tune of $2.75 each. The carne asada in my burrito was cut very small and dry. The beans were different. They seemed to have a red sauce mixed in. they served it with a side of chopped lettuce and a small slice of tomato on the plate. No dressing. We had a side of guacamole that was fair. Not a lot of flavor and on the "green' side of ripe. My friend had the cheese enchilada combo and a coke. The coke came in the can with a glass of ice. Cost: $45.00. The service is horrible here. We use to come to this restaurant back in the days, about 10 years ago when it was different owners. We walked in and we weren't even greeted We sat ourselves down... we ordered our food and once the food, which by the way was not the greatest, came out and the waitress with a horrible attitude and a unapproachable vibe, dropped off our food and not once came to ask if we needed anything else or how we were doing. My dad had to get up twice to ask for their service and even then she just had a horrible attitude! My family and I will not be coming back again. I am struggling to find the words to accurately describe how incredible the food was at La Fogata. We are from San Diego, which arguably has some of the best Mexican food in the US, but it took us visiting Baldwin Park for our daughters cheer competition to have the absolute best chile relleno I have ever had (and I have had them in Mexico). I always love homestyle/authentic mexican food, so I thought this place would satisfied my hunger. Walked in and found interesting decors and a bar, waitress said to sit anywhere. Chips (quite greasy/oily) and salsa (meh) came after we sat down. We ordered the typical tacos and burrito and the presentation appeared to be acceptable; however, that's when it went down....chicken was dry, rice was hard and beans were probably from can???? Consistency! I've been a patron for years and love the overall environment of the restaurant. The decor feels authentic and different than most Mexican restaurants. I frequent their pescado al mojo de ajo- which is a full fried fish with garlic. You have to be careful for bones but the garlic and fish mix is amazing! Beans and rice as sides are always a plus. The chips + salsa served with the meal tend to be in the hotter side, but always fresh! The best Shrimp cocktail in the world. Also the best margarita blended in the world. That's all I ever order here. Although you will want more than one margarita or more than one shrimp cocktail it adds up and is a little expensive. I recommend those two items. But yes, the margarita must be blended otherwise frozen. The lemon margarita and strawberry are good. But, honestly it is the best shrimp cocktail I've ever had and it's consistent. read more

I visited in the afternoon with friends who frequent La Fogata. They do say on the weekends it can be busier so keep that in mind . There are courtesy chips and salsa . The Chips were made fresh , the flavor in the salsa was delicious with a nice level of heat that lingers nicely and not overpowering. They do offer lunch specials which is convenient if you need lunch to go or have a picky eater in the group. I did sample the Chile Rellenos and it was perfectly filling as well as tasty. The service is always good I love the margaritas but did get skimpy on the tequila now it's served in a beer glass instead of the margarita cup. Go easy on the salsa it's super spicy the oyster shooter is a must!
