While in NYC my wife and I had a super romantic and delicious experience at this cool spot. It was a bit dark, but that created a cozy charm we liked. They have a back room and even a back garden but the place is all about ITALIAN, which we love. SO glad this spot got to re-open! It had always been on my list, but after the fire I realized I never had the chance. It was definitely worth the wait for re-opening. From the service, to the food, to the ambience, it was a great experience. The restaurant has some different vibes to it - a dimmer, more date-like front area with the bar and some tables indoor and outdoor, and then a beautiful garden in the back with a skylight, open windows and paintings. We opted to sit in the garden given its unique-ness. Service was very prompt and the prices were beyond reasonable. I went with the house red, but they had a variety of choices of wine and some delicious sounding cocktails (I will be back earlier in the day for the cappuccino martini). For food, they had a regular menu and a handful of specials. We got a bruschetta special that cane with fresh mozz, mushrooms and truffle oil. It was very truffley and delicious! Plenty for 2-4 people to share. For our entrees, we shared the cacio e pepe and the baked rigatoni special. Both were very big portions and delicious and cheesy. We were too full for dessert, but I can imagine it's as good! Our server also sent us to the bar after we finished for complimentary amaretto shots, which was honestly so sweet especially for a city like NYC. Everything was so great and I can't wait to be back. Via Della Pace serves super delicious food. It has a lot of seating (an upstairs section and more tables in the basement), so we were able to be seated immediately. We tried the lobster ravioli ("Ravioli di Aragosta alla Vodka") and beef lasagna, and both came out quickly and were delicious! The lobster ravioli dish had little pieces of lobster in the super tasty pink vodka sauce, and the caviar on the side created a nice contrast to the rich sauce. The ravioli were great and cooked perfectly. The lasagna was also delicious and had the perfect ratios of noodle, delicious sauce, meat, and cheese. The only drawbacks were the fact that it is a cash-only business and that the portions were pretty small (six ravioli and maybe a 4x4 or 5x5 inch portion of lasagna). I was not hungry after but was also not full after my meal, and I had also eaten chocolate chip cookies that I was baking right before coming. Perhaps the dishes are designed with the expectation that people get an appetizer and an entreé, but we did not have time to order two courses. They could also be designed with health and portion-consciousness in mind, but I don't think anyone would protest having more of their delicious food! Easily a neighborhood favorite! I was so sad when I found out their old location closed but so glad when they got this location! The space is beautiful - especially the back patio which includes a huge glass-domed ceiling and huge framed mirrors lining the wall. The staff are still quality people and embody hospitality in their service. The dishes are still delicious and the portions are perfectly sized. I honestly can't even recommend one dish over the other because you can't really lose out with what you choose. However, I will say I'm a fan of their bruschette. My friend and I arrived at 7 PM on a Thursday night and the first floor was full. The waitress told us we could either continue waiting for the first floor or we could be seated right away in the basement. We decided on the latter. The basement was a bit humid and desolate but at least it was quieter than the upstairs. It was also not as set up as the upstairs which had mood lighting and candles vs the downstairs which looked like some tables and candles were thrown haphazardly around. Our waitress came over right away with the menus and told us their policy of having to order all of our food at once but never explaining why. We decided on a bottle of white, bruschette trio, soup of the day, rigatoni alla carbonara, gnocchi of the day and homemade tiramisu. BRUSCHETTE TRIO: We chose the pugliese (goat cheese and roasted peppers), emiliana (prosciutto and parmigiana) and ligure (shrimp). There was one of each that was served to us. The bread that the bruschetta was served on was not too memorable, kind of dry and not crispy enough; however, the toppings were the saving grace of the dish. The goat cheese one was probably my favorite - the peppers and goat cheese really meshed well together. The prosciutto was pretty good as well. And as for the shrimp, the shrimp was well done and cooked however there was way too much mustard slathered on the bread and just overpowered the taste. SOUP OF THE DAY: The soup that we were served was a mushroom and truffle oil soup. It was a disappointment. It tasted like they threw some mushrooms into a vitamix and then dumped some truffle oil and served it. There was absolutely no flavor apart from the mushroom and oil itself. RIGATONI ALLA CARBONARA: Pretty good carbonara over al dente pasta. Not much to complain about there. GNOCCHI OF THE DAY: The gnocchi we were served with had some tomatoes and shrimp. The flavor of the sauce was delicious, I'm just personally not a big fan of gnocchi and this one did not stand out too much for me - a bit too doughy. HOMEMADE TIRAMISU: So delicious however was a bit too heavy on the coffee for my taste. But I loved how large the portion was as well as the plating. Though the experience and food at Via Della Pace was a pretty average one (save for the tiramisu which was wonderful), the service and people working the restaurant were great and helped to add to the night. read more

It's the closest thing to dining in Italy I have found in the U.S. While the dishes are authentic, properly prepared with the finest ingredients, and delicious, it's the staff, and the way they treat us that completes the experience. i went here for a date and had an amazing time! the ambiance is very lively - which I like but understand it's not for everyone. The restaurant itself is very charming and quaint. The service was good, the food came out literally instantly. I got the spaghetti cacio e pepe and my date had the gnocchi pesto, we both liked mine more. Both pastas tasted very fresh and home made. Just leaving NYC this morning after my first visit and decided this little local Italian bar my best friend and I accidentally stumbled into was the absolute highlight of our week. We only got the rice balls appetizer which was fantastic, but this atmosphere created some vivid core memories for me. The bartender was an interesting wonderful character shouting and singing joyfully in Italian. The tv behind the bar was playing an old seventies Italian movie, and everyone in the bar was happy and singing along with the bartenders. 10/10 recommend. Sadly this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in recent memory. We went out for a friends birthday - we arrived in time and they sat us right away. Menus and water glasses crowded the little table. After almost half an hour, the restaurant still empty, we flagged one if the owners down and actually asked if we had a server. She said of course and the waitress begrudgingly came over and we placed our order. Then we finally placed our drinks order. She was so unpleasant. We tried speaking Italian to her but maybe she is not Italian? The food arrived - beef carpaccio was good. The mixed salad were boring but fresh enough. The famed carbonara was dripping in cream - which is not a carbonara in Italy. the equally famous fettuccini in a short rib meat sauce actually had a bad piece of short rib that tasted off. My friends pasta al pomodoro was fine. The waitress never brought any cheese so we had to ask her to. She once again begrudgingly brought us a little dish with barely a teaspoon of parmigiano. So we flagged a very nice waiter who knew what we wanted and brought a little bowl brimming with cheese. Grazie! We wish he had been our server all along after that! Then we had to wave and flag down our server again and get a second beer. Food two stars Service les that one star The prices are reasonable but you get what you pay for So many great Italian places. Great hole in the wall (ok it's slightly larger than a hole in the wall, but very cozy) with AMAZING food. I'd have to agree with other reviewers that this is one of the most authentic Italian places west of Italy (actual Italy, not Little Italy). Every single thing we had here was a hit! The burrata e crudo (burrata with prosciutto) was so fresh - so incredibly fresh! The Umbra bruschetta was heavenly!!!! If you get one thing, it should be this. It's got goat cheese, crispy panchetta and asparagus and I can't stress enough how freakin' delicious it was. I could eat that all night long. Fettuccine with meat sauce was amazing. Came here for dinner this week. It's kind of a hidden, unassuming Italian place stuck behind the long lines of San Marzano and some of the other options on 2nd avenue. Due to the ridiculously long lines at San Marzano (on a weekday!), we ended up here. The place itself is quite nice. Dimly lit to make it feel a bit romantic per se. Table setting is a bit tight, but that's to be expected I guess. At first, we were told there was a private event so we had 45 minutes to eat. Hated that we were rushed to eat, but thought it wouldn't really take us that long to get our food. We ordered the gnocchi and the fettuccine with pesto. The food itself wasn't bad. Ended up being around $35, though I didn't realize it was cash only. That's a bummer (for a place like this). Might be up to something.... If I didn't feel rushed eating here, I probably would have taken photos, so they lose a star because of it. read more

Cute little spot near at Marks. They're apparently rated as one of the best pasta places and is even known to people in Italy! Prices are good, most dishes of pasta are 12-15 range. The only catch is that it's cash only so make sure to get some cash beforehand. I got the rigatoni carbonara and my friend for the spaghetti. The rigatoni texture was amazing, perfectly al dente and had so much chew. I love a good noodle so this definitely hit the spot. The cured meat in it was also well seasoned. I was definitely happy and full after this meal- as someone who is always looking for a solid Italian spot in the city, grab some cash and come here- you won't be disappointed. read more

Visited Via Della Pace for the second time today. The Lasagna Della Pace is my absolute favorite. It was paired with wine the first time I tried it. It was amazing. Stumbled in here at 7pm impromptu on a Thursday evening looking for a good Italian meal and we were blown away! Quaint place with real deal Italian food. The line at San Marzano was too long, so we found the closest Italian restaurant nearby - fortunately saw Via Della Place across the street. It was quiet on a Tuesday night at 7pm - greeted by friendly, Italian speaking servers but a very empty restaurant. We were nervous, but it was too cold out to venture elsewhere. It's a pretty restaurants - great date spot. It's dimly lit and there are wood accents that adds to the ambiance. We sat in a corner seat with a candle-lit table. We started off with bruschetta. You can order them by the piece or order 3 for $10.50, so that's what we did. 2 truffle oil and one plain. Bread was only OK, but the toppings were delicious. The bread that came with the table was the same bread that was prepared with the bruschetta. It was a little tougher than I'd like, tough to cut with a knife. The crust wasn't as strong as I'd like. For our main entrees, we ordered the gnocchi with tomato sauce. They gave us a nice heaping of parmesan, which always adds to the dish. The gnocchi was good but it wasn't the best I've ever had. All around, Via Della is a fine place to eat - it's romantic inside and the food is decent. You can't really go wrong with it, but it won't blow you away. There's a lot of Italian options in the city so if you're looking to get a quality meal, I'd venture elsewhere. If you're hungry and just want to eat decent Italian, come here. read more

EXCELLENT! My friend and I were out for a bite and drinks as we'd had a rough week so far and decided to scope out this area. After walking up and down the block a couple of times and assessing option we decided on Via Della Pace as the menu looked delicious and the pricing was reasonable and the décor looked comfy and inviting. We were seated immediately upon walking in (and it is a little cramped but still comfortable) and given a basket of fresh baked bread. (Olive oil and vinegar are already on the table) For my entrée I decided to try the Tuesday Night special Rigatoni which had prosciutto and mushrooms in a light cream sauce. My friend got the Spaghettia Carbonara. Both of these came out fairly quickly and while the portion was not huge it was very filling and divine. I opted to have the server heap 3 huge spoonfulls of fresh grated parmesan on top (can't have enough cheese) and the nuttiness and saltiness of that mixed with the great flavor of the prosciutto and the tender mushrooms... it was just amazing. I also had the Red Wine Sangria which was pretty good and definitely gave a slight buzz. I would of preferred it a little bit sweeter but it had plenty of fresh fruit. My friend had one of the specialty cocktails which he raved over. Not sure what exactly it was but it looked amazing. This is a CASH only place but there is an ATM right in front of the bathroom if you don't have cash on hand (or overspend which might be easy to do because everything looked delicious coming out). The service was very nice and we even got a free limoncello shot (I think that was because my friend couldn't figure out what he wanted for dessert because he said he wanted something sweet but tart and but not sweet lol). Oh I forgot to add about pricing.... Our total bill came to $47 dollars... that included two meals and two drinks. The loveliest quiet brunch here on Sunday,for a steal! Arrived at 11am,and were one of the first to be seated. Service was quick,and their staff was friendly and patient. Brunch menu: for just $11 you get your choice of gourmet Italian coffee, entree, bread & olives, and sides of salad and potatoes. My date ordered perfectly poached smoked salmon eggs benedict. I ordered the spinach and sausage frittata. Both dishes came out quickly and were excellent. The atmosphere is adorable rustic Italian. They have soccer playing,and the coffee was delicious (a cappuccino and latte are both included with entree). They were gracious and helpful to a few older couples that came in and needed assistance. Clean bathrooms! Next time, we will sit in a quaint porch area (with umbrella) which is outdoors but also private. So unique! Can't beat the price, the service and high quality food. I visited this place with some friends on Saturday night for a dinner. It`s a nice Italian restaurant in East Village. The place was very crowded but we had really luck and got a seat outside. It is an Italian restaurant but you will not find any pizza on the menu but a lot of other delicious meals. The staff was very friendly and we got our food also very fast. On recommendation I ordered a "Lasagna Via della PAce". It was served in a nice stone pan and it was really so delicious. I got a good portion for a reasonable price. One of my favorite dinner spots in the Village. The place and food have so much character. Besides getting an amazing meal, you'll get some prime people watching in. The upstairs is packed with candlelit tables (with a piece of paper precariously wrapped around the open flame), a bar full of regulars, and effectively a shrine on the front wall to the owners' favorite soccer team. A black and White Italian movie plays behind the bar. The energy is high and once and awhile a round of "happy birthday" comes on, with the owner leading the song on a bullhorn. First fresh bread appears, toasted on a panini press in the back, with nice grill lines. If you're doing the night right, you'll have a class of wine or prosecco. Ah... And then the pasta. This pasta redefined my understanding of what pasta could and should be. Even a simple spaghetti and red sauce comes packed with rich fresh tomato flavor every bite. The carbonara is covered in a sauce that is somehow creamy but light at the same time, with some fatty pork belly accenting the flavor. Every last drop of sauce must be finished with the remaining bread. Dessert is also a must. Especially the Panna Cotta covered with strawberry marmalade. Each bite is a delight. But it doesn't end there. Finish your meal with a sweet but strong serving of limoncello. A perfect way to end the meal and leave you with a nice buzz for the trip home. The food was ok but the service was horrific and put a damper on the whole night. We were seated for a birthday dinner that was booked in advance, and there were only 7 seats when we arrived rather than the booked 8. When we asked our waiter if we can please add a chair to the end of the table he said "he'll see if he can" and then disappeared. Already off putting but whatever. He angrily dragged over a chair and never set the 8th plate. Again annoying but we're there for a birthday (also in the reservation) so we're trying to have a good time and we push through. He was annoyed with us from the very start and anything we asked on the menu it was "no" or "I don't know". For example we asked for an espresso martini and asked if we can replace it with casamigos and he said they don't do that. Ok, fine. He didn't come up to us a single time after the food was ordered, we had to wave our hands to flag him down about 40 minutes in to ask for another drink, which again he found VERY annoying. He then made a mistake and got the birthday girl the wrong drink, and when she very nicely pointed it out he ROLLED HIS EYES AND SCOFFED. He even went as far as to argue that it was what she ordered (it wasn't. We were all there and heard her ask for something else.) At the end we asked to order dessert (again had to flag him down) and he said "ok what." And we nicely asked for dessert menus. He brought us two menus for the entire table and then disappeared again. We ended up leaving without dessert and had such a hard time finding him to ask for the check that we had to physically go up and ask someone to check us out. After which he reappeared to add his mandatory 18% tip that he did not deserve. Keep in mind this place is so small and he only was servicing like 3 tables. Half the time the other tables were also empty. So it's not like he was super swamped. My friend was really upset that she was treated so rudely on her birthday and we weren't even able to get her a birthday candle or dessert to sing her happy birthday because the guy was being so awful we decided to just leave instead. A group of 8, you didn't ask us if we want more drinks, more apps, or dessert? Not only did the restaurant lose money, but you lost tip money given that it's a percentage, and none of us will be back. Messy all around. The waiter had neck tattoos and a weird jacket on. Looked like he didn't even work there and he some angry guy they dragged in from the street or something. This is one of the best Italian restaurants BY FAR in the east village. I pretty much tell everyone I know about VDP and it has proved to hold up to its great reputation. One of the key markers of a good Italian restaurant is lentil soup. If you can't make lentil soup, then you can't even call yourself an Italian restaurant! Needless to say, they have a fantastic lentil soup that makes me feel so cozy. It's thick and comes with a large helping of bread on the side! Another marker of a great Italian restaurant is that Italians actually go there. I have never seen so many Italians in one place in the east village, but every day I walk into VDP there are tons of fellow Italians speaking Italian and watching soccer. PS this is a great location to watch your favorite Italian soccer teams! This is a cash only restaurant so make sure to bring your hard earned cash! Especially if you are going for a special, because things can get pretty pricey really quickly lol. If you have the luxury of getting to spend your lunch hours in the east village I'd highly recommend going here for the lunch special. It even comes with a great coffee! It's hard to judge a place on just two dishes, but I'm going to do my best to be fair. For delivery we ordered the Ligure Bruschetta and two Fettuccine Momma-Nonna Munda's. The Ligure Bruschetta is just what it says it is: grilled shrimp, arugula, avocado, and mustard. If you're a person sticking to a diet or trying to eat healthy, where you know exactly what you're getting, this is for you. It's a fine choice, not my favorite but all the ingredients are good, and the mustard is not overpowering. The presentation in my photo isn't so great but it was delivered, so keep that in mind. The pasta is good enough to travel for. Good enough for earn 4 stars on its own. I have no photo, all I can say is: homemade pasta with sausage short rib sauce. Oh hell yes. This is good, this is amazing, this makes me happy. It's filling and arm, the short rib cooked to perfect tenderness, the flavors all working together.
