My table before my food was set
    Jayden D.

Simply put, this was a heavenly & blissful experience. Of course at that same time experiences like that come at a steep cost but for this place, it was worth it. As I set just one foot inside the area I was already greeted by an older gentleman who might be the boss/owner of the restaurant. Not gonna lie, I was pretty intimidated coming in here because the staff are very well dressed and here I am in a sports coat, hoodie, jeans and sneakers. The area as a whole looked immaculate, clearly above my pay grade and I joked to him about it as he led me to my table. He also jested if I also have the money to afford the food here. No worries fam, I'm good on that. As I chose my place to sit at, a waiter came only mere seconds and took my order. She was very nice and accommodating as everything was served to me in a timely manner. The whole area was running like clock work as if it had that feel you're dining in an upper echelon establishment in NYC, just taking in the atmosphere as Brazilian tunes reverberate through the restaurant from smooth jazz to bossa nova. My meal for the day, Bife á Parmegiana which is steak parm with Spaghetti and I had that with Iced tea which is unsweetened by the way so make sure you request sugar if you prefer yours sweet but I'm pretty sure the waiter like mine would ask you if you want sugar to go with your tea. Anyway back to the steak and pasta. I first thought it was a bit on the small side but it's surprisingly filling. The Steak has some chew to it but the taste is certainly there with that mix of breading and parmesean cheese to give the Brazilian staple steak more of an Italian taste. Spaghetti was done very well bordering close to al dente. Meal altogether came up to $40 and gave a solid $10 tip for how comfortable I felt in the whole setting. This place is a definite revisit for me, though of course with what you get here, expect to pay top dollar for it. It's certainly worth it.

One of the last vestiges of Little Brazil, Via Brasil has been open since the late 70s. The inside has that old white tablecloth charm and there is also a small bar in front which was crowded throughout the evening. As per usual, this review is from a while back. The food overall was good and the staff was helpful for those who weren't sure what they wanted to order. They have a small selection of cocktails and fruit juices with someone ordering a Caipirinha (where there are traditional and flavored options) but I went with something which I wasn't expecting which was caju. Caju is the apple/fruit surrounding the cashew nut and has a very floral sweet flavor (closest would be a rose apple I would say) but also a slightly puckering quality similar to a pineapple (so I wouldn't recommend it to those who have more of a reaction to said pineapples.) You can get this with or without alcohol and I ordered the latter where they added cachaça. I think without the alcohol it was around $9 and with, it was maybe $14 or $16 but I'm honestly not sure and I liked it. I didn't get an appetizer as I was planning on ordering a larger entree but someone else got their Pão de Queijo/Cheese Bread for the table which was $8. It was as expected slightly chewy from the tapioca flour and the cheese flavor was subtle adding some saltiness and sourness. They were solid though I'm not positive how many came with an order. My main dish was the Feijoada Completa for $42 which is listed as a black bean stew with fresh and dried beef, salted and fresh pork, bacon, sausage and ribs served with rice, collard greens, sliced oranges and farofa (toasted manioc flour.) Said dish was quite large with there also being a version for two for $78 which I guess comes in quite a large pot. I have had this dish in many different places before and this version was very solid. The main meat in there ranged from tender to slightly chewy (of course based on whether it was the salted/dried or fresh versions) with the bites of sausage adding more texture. The worst part was the ribs which were a bit overcooked inside and were therefore a bit rubbery but the majority of the meat was good quality. The sides, which always come with this dish, was presented nicer than other places with the highlight being their take on collard greens which I usually find a bit bland but this spot added some garlic and other herbs. This was overall very tasty. Two others enjoyed the Moqueca which is a stew made with fish (peixe,) shrimp (camarão) or cod (Bacalhau) which are all $36 which they all enjoyed and I remember trying someone else's Picadinho De Carne ($28) which was pretty tasty and the last person got the Bife à Baiana ($37) which they seemed to enjoy. For dessert, I went with the Brigadero which is $8 for 3 truffles. Even with only three of them, they're quite shareable as the condensed milk makes them quite sweet and filling. Someone else had the flan and I did not try and I don't believe anyone else had any dessert. The food overall was good. There are better Brazilian restaurants (especially in the Ironbound area) but those are a good long distance away with the other best place for feijoada in Manhattan closing a good while back. If I was looking for a Brazilian fix, I'd go back here again.

Casual setting and nice vibe. I had dinner with my friend at this friendly Brazilian restaurant recently, great service and good food. My Shrimp with Hearts of Palm in Pineapple Sauce was flavorful, and my friend enjoyed the saucy Chicken Stroganoff with Mushrooms!

This restaurant was a top notch spot that gives both fancy and casual vibes. The moment we entered we were immediately seated on slightly busy Saturday night. I had to run downstairs to the bathroom only to be completely mortified at how disgusting it was. Oh well... onto the food! My girlfriend is Brazilian so she was looking forward to eating here. She ordered the Filet with arroz piamonetz and it was marvelous! I ordered the churrasco. Our server was very nice but he did take a while to come back to our table sometimes. The steaks were perfectly cooked however lacked seasoning/ taste. I had to put salt on it to taste something. Price came out to around $130 along with two guanaras; which is a Brazilian soda I highly recommend btw! Make sure to grab a toothpick and mint they have at the exit before you leave !

Totally legit Brazilian cuisine! The feijoda, a stew of blank beans, sausage, bacon, etc., was outstanding. The camarão na moranga (shrimp in a cream sauce baked in a squash) was awesome. The coxinhas mistas, Brazilian croquettes sampler, was great. They have live music in the evening. Service was five star.

On a freezing Saturday, at 6pm, we walked in without reservations. Many tables were available, and the manager welcomed us with warm and enthusiastic greeting, which was appreciated. Staff niceties ended right there. Service was the worst part of our experience. Waitstaff were extremely understaffed. We waited half an hour for anyone to approach our table. After almost dying of dehydration, I tried to catch a passing staff member, but that proved quite a feat--everyone was so busy, that they were flying at the speed of light and our table of two seemed invisible. Very frustrating. Especially when you just want a glass of water after waiting for who knows how long. Took over 45 minutes to finally talk to someone, get water, and get to ordering food. During the rest of our evening, no one checked in about anything, because all the staff were extremely busy, so our water and tea glasses remained empty. Bad night for our visit. Pretty ambiance, appropriate for any kind of family, business, or romantic gathering. Large white piano decorates the center of the space. Food was tasty. VATAPA$33: Pollock And Shrimp With A Puree Of Shrimp, Coconut Milk, Palm Oil, Peanut And Spices, Served With Rice was filling and hearty. Mild in flavor. Wish I actually tasted spices [or seasoning in general]. But the portion was big and the overall impression was positive. CAMARAO A GREGA$29 Fried Shrimp With Cheese cubes with Vegetable Rice was okay, nothing special. Very little shrimp--exactly four shrimps and three cheese cubes--definitely not worth $29. Rice is cheap, so a $29 plate of rice with 4 shrimp and 3 cheese cubes is ludicrous. Do not recommend. Will not be back. You can get much better experience at other Brazilian restaurants that are abundant all over the city.

Had lunch at Via Brasil in Manhattan today after a wonderful workshop Star Mothers & Earth Ancestors: A Channeling Event for Starseeds with Marissa & JJ Brighton. The restaurant was beautifully rustic inside with a piano for live music & tasteful pictures throughout. We had the special which was oxtails & polenta & the rio grande churrascos mixed meat grill. The Pao de Queijo A Brazilian delight "cheese bread" was delicious & the Mariscos Ao Molho de Vinho which is Sauteed mussels w/ garlic, white wine and tomato sauce. The waiters were all great & very attentive. Love this little piece of Brazil on west 46th street.

Located in the heart of Little Brazil, I dined here with a friend for dinner. The interior is lovely, vibrant, colorful with a welcoming atmosphere. There were white table cloths and pretty pink flowers on the table, giving the place an elegant touch. Of course we had to get the cheese bread, which was excellent. Sticky, strong cheesy flavor, still warm, and perfect little tasty morsels! For my entree, I ordered the Grande sampler meat platter, which included strip steak, Brazilian sausage, pork chop, as well as chicken. This was served with rice and beans, along with yucca flour and pico de gallo. I think my favorite was the steak, which was nice and tender, as well as packed with flavor. The Brazilian sausage was wonderfully juicy, succulent, and had just the right chewy consistency. The pork chop was also tasty, and was very well seasoned. The chicken was probably my least favorite, because I'm not normally impressed by it. This chicken was decent and was pleasantly soft, but a little on the bland side. The rice was perfectly cooked and usually I'm not really a fan of beans, but paired with the rice, it was pretty good. I also enjoyed the yucca flour mix, which had a sandy consistency, along with raisins and veggies. This was a nice blend, especially eaten together with the pico de gallo and meats. The pico de gallo added a lovely fresh, slightly crunchy element to the meal. For dessert, my friend and I shared the Doce de Leite com Queijo, which was Dulce de Leche with Brazilian white cheese. This was a very simple, yet delicious preparation of pure, sweet, rich, milky, deeply caramely, and irresistibly smooth Dulce de leche. The white cheese was mild and dipped with Dulce de Leche made for mouthwatering bites. Service was wonderful throughout. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Also, the prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering the midtown area and proximity to Times Square. I would be open to returning and would like one of the seafood dishes, such as the Fresh Pollock and Shrimp.

We got tickets to a Broadway show so we needed a dinner place nearby. We don't have Brazilian food too ofter, so we thought why not? We made a resso for a Wednesday at 6:15. It was pretty empty. From the outside looking in, it does look like a tourist trap, especially because of its proximity to Times Square. But they had good reviews, and the menu looked good and was reasonably priced, especially for that area. We ordered: -Assorted Brazilian Hors d'ouevres - this was an assortment of 6 different empanadas/croquettes with various meat/cheese/rice filling. Some were good but there were a few I didn't like. I don't even know what was what because nothing was explained to us. But its a fun dish to share between two people if you want to try a little bit of all the flavors. This was served with a side of some chili/tomato oil, which was really good but if you can't take spice, this dip isn't for you -Feijoada Complete (black bean stew with fresh and dried beef, salted and fresh pork, bacon, sausage and ribs, served with collard greens, rice, sliced orange and farofa) - we shared this and it's definitely enough for two people. I didn't care for the beef, but love the pork because it was tender, and the sausage as well. The collard greens were a nice garlicky tradition. I've never had feijoada before but having stew with orange was new to me but it was actually kind of refreshing and cut some of the richness of the stew. I didn't care for the farofa (toasted cassava flour). It reminded me of eating nutritional yeast. We wanted a bit more carbs to go with the rest of the stew and the cheese bread would have been great to soak up all the sauce but unfortunately, this was sold out. How can you sell out of cheese bread before a dinner rush! We ended up getting fried bananas, which I do not recommend. We thought it would be like fried plantains but it was literally battered and fried halves of bananas, kind of like the banana tempura you would get at a sushi restaurant. I don't know if I liked this place enough to come back for a second visit, but it was a great first experience.

I was warmly greeted by the gentleman at the door (5 service there), which set a great first impression. However, as soon as I walked downstairs, it felt like the space had lost its speakeasy vibe. I was seated right near the stairs and could feel cold air from outside every time the door opened, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

Easy to find if you know what you're looking for, if you arrive right at 5pm on a cold weeknight in the winter, you'll easily find a table or seat at the bar. Very cute space, cozy like everyone says, but nothing mind blowing. Music is moderately loud. The menu in early February still included their winter holiday cocktails. I was more interested in the apple sage house-made fermented soda, and it was pretty good-large glass, flavorful and not too sweet. My friend enjoyed her pomegranate version. The space started to fill up at around 5:30. Service was polite when you could get it, but generally very inattentive, even before it got busy. It honestly didn't feel too different from anu other very nice NYC bar, in terms of menu selection, prices, ambiance and service. Maybe that's standard for NYC speakeasies, but the places I frequented in other cities were more fun and felt more worth the price. I'll still give another NYC spot a try, but not coming back to Thyme.

For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way. This is a hidden bar upstairs of a restaurant. Small and intimate dimly lit space. Although small,…read moreyou still felt the energy of the room. Very full cocktail menu. Staff was accommodating and let us sit for an hour as we didn't have a reservation. Don't try any of the light bites. I'd come back

We had an extra person when we checked in and they happily added her to the rez. We just had to wait about 15 mins which was fine. We were seated around 7:30pm. It was busy and bustling in the upstairs bar. We were seated at a spot resembling a coffee table(s) with chairs / ottomans surrounding it. I got the martini. It was a fun play with the green curry and saffron. This place is a little loud, so it is not easy to have a convo with your party. I am old so this probably wouldn't have been something I clocked in my younger years. They do have food which looks intriguing. Especially anything with truffles on it. If in the area, would definitely consider coming back for a quick drink and bite. REVIEW #4013
