    Bailey eats rocks...
    Lisa J.

Wow, this place is amazing. I needed an emergency vet on a Sunday morning. I found this wonderful place via a Google search. This is literally unlike any emergency room I've ever been to. It provides an open concept floor plan where you are seen in the lobby area. They do provide private rooms if necessary. The staff...where do I begin. Each person I have been in contact with, from my first phone call with Jenna, has been outstanding. These folks truly care about our kids and try to make them comfy and us too. They provide quality coffee drinks and flavored water too. They have snacks for parents and puzzle books to pass the time. Is it expensive? Well, duh! Any ER is. But I am thankful that we found them. We are currently waiting for Bailey to pass her rocks. Yes, it is a bad idea to eat rocks.

Amazing amazing group of doctors and nurses after getting the runaround all day with my poor dog we came to veg for emergency eye removal surgery. Even though they were busy and other critical patients kept coming in, they communicated the entire time they were so personable. They have private rooms with pullout beds and couches so if you need to lay down with your dog/ pet you can they have a latte machine and a soda machine they had snacks they even offered us frozen pizzas or hamburgers or corn dogs because we were there so late at night. They called me once the surgery had finished and had sent text updates throughout the day .They even refunded us some money instead of ripping us off. I also love the open floor plan you are in the same room with all the nurses doctors and animals there's no behind the scenes everything is done there right in front of you instead of wondering what's going on with your pet. I will go to the veg every single time. They truly showed compassion and care for animals and for the owners.

It's hard to know where to start. Our cat, Snarf, was 16 1/2 years old and had some health problems, but nothing out of the ordinary. He had some kidney issues but normal for a 16 1/2 year old cat. We took him to our regular vet on 10/20 and had some tests done. On 10/21 they came back with extremely elevated glucose, and our vet suggested we start a treatment that we committed to and an appointment was made for the following Monday. Two days later on Wednesday is where the nightmare began. By Friday 10/24 he was demonstrably weaker, and our vet had no space in the schedule to see him (which proved to be a Godsend). We took him to VEG Oro Valley and immediately the supervising vet and staff members descended on him as a group and started triage and testing with equipment not available at a typical vets office, and results were coming in within minutes. Once the testing and imaging were progressing Dr. Bettencourt was assigned to our case. Snarf was very ill. He had Diabetic Ketoacidosis, and the prognosis was not good on any level. We asked Dr. Bettencourt for an honest assessment and the 2 options were either a long, involved, and painful treatment that had no guarantee of success or return with any quality of life, or to let him transition with compassion, dignity, grace and without any further suffering. We were in shock, but her words were spoken honestly and with authority, empathy, and compassion. The rest of the staff, especially Sabrina who led most of the triage and initial testing were fantastic. We were with Snarf the entire time from start to end we never once left his side. We were then given a private room to spend time with Snarf - given all the time we needed - and when we and he were ready, he transitioned without any pain. We will never forget Snarf, who was the glue of our family, and we'll never forget the care and attention he received at the end of his life by the staff at VEG and as led by Dr. Bettencourt - all an amazing group of individuals dedicated to helping us and our companions in what are some of their darkest hours. Thank you, VEG, and Godspeed, Snarf.

Dr. Grady dismissed these symptoms as signs of aging and did not run any diagnostics, not even basic bloodwork. Less than three weeks later, Elio passed away from undetected abdominal cancer. What followed made everything worse. I reached out multiple times to express my concerns and grief and was met with silence for nearly three weeks. Arianna Carter, the practice manager, eventually responded but made repeated attempts to call me despite my being Deaf and having made it abundantly clear, verbally and in writing, that I can only communicate by email or text. This disregard for my access needs added to my pain and made me feel completely disrespected. Even after I explicitly requested email communication, I was still told a phone call had been attempted and only then received a generic response explaining the nature of the cancer. While I appreciate the medical explanation, it did not address the lack of urgency, the poor communication, or the failure to acknowledge the harm caused by their delay. I'm sharing this not out of spite, but because I would not want another pet owner, especially one who is Deaf or disabled, to go through what I did. I hope Jackpot Veterinary Center takes a serious look at how they handle client communication, medical concerns, and accessibility.

We spent nearly 4 hours at the clinic until around 1 AM, yet we left without any real clarity, guidance, or sense of urgency from the staff. The veterinarian on site seemed inexperienced as there was no clear explanation about the situation or about test results. Communication was unclear throughout the visit, with a lot of stuttering, stumbling over explanations, and difficulty giving us concise answers about what was going on with our dog. Between each interaction with the vet, we waited close to an hour at a time with very little communication or reassurance. The vet techs also appeared careless and unprofessional. Their appearance was very unkempt, and overall the environment felt disorganized and inattentive. Considering this is an urgent care facility, we expected a much higher level of professionalism, attentiveness, and compassion. Because we weren't getting clear answers or confidence in the care being provided, we decided to take our dog home and reevaluate in the morning. Tragically, later that morning our dog passed away after we brought her to another veterinary clinic. The second clinic was much more compassionate, knowledgeable, clear, and comforting during such a devastating situation. It's heartbreaking and frustrating because we chose UrgentVet believing it would be a reliable and experienced emergency facility close to home. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling dismissed, unsupported, and deeply disappointed during one of the worst moments of our lives.

This is a LONG review but if you are questioning whether you should go here i highly suggest you…read moreread it; I brought my 6 year old Chihuahua in on 01/05, first off they contacted us first to ask if we would like to take advantage of the free first exam coupon and got us an appointment literally for 1 hour later. The timing was impeccable. Second, once we got to VCA Valley we were greeted by very welcoming receptionists who got us checked in immediately, we were seen within 10/15 minutes of getting there by a vet tech named Alex, and brought to an exam room. he was amazing and went through all the notes the call center employee noted, we explained Daisy's full history, he checked her vitals and was so gentle with her as she was very nervous. Then we were shortly seen by Dr Zatlow (spelling may be wrong but i know they refer to her as Dr Z!) and she was very compassionate, she listened attentively, she gave us a thorough explanation and examined Daisy accordingly all with us present in the exam room. She stated all her concerns and then laid out a treatment plan for us that fit within our budget (as we were facing some financial difficulties at this time) Alex did a phenomenal job of explaining CareClub to us and the advantage of using that plan to minimise the up front cost for Daisy to have blood work done. They also refilled her prescription for her valley fever medication and seizure medication AND sent us home with a steroid for her autoimmune disorder. The next day i contacted them again to schedule her blood draw and i expressed to them i wanted to keep her appointments with Dr Z and her team and they fitted me in with a blood draw for the following day at 11AM So 01/07 we went and got her blood drawn, they again greeted us very welcoming, they got us into an exam room within 15 mins, they checked her vitals again and took her back for the draw which took no longer than 15/20 mins. We spoke with Dr Z again and she spoke to us further about what our focus is and what our next steps will be. They informed us that the blood samples would be sent out that night and we would get the results by the weekend, this visit again was very informative and we left very satisfied with the care Daisy was given. The unfortunate part of all this, was that my dogs health took a pretty rapid decline, this was no ones fault other than the relapse in her condition was working rapidly and she was showing very bad signs, we contacted VCA valley that same night (01/07 around 9pm) and we were told we would receive a call from the emergency techs who would triage her via phone to tell us if we needed to bring her in or not (and this triage call is of no cost to us, it is not considered an exam so there is no fee). This visit was the longest of all of them, Daisy was taken back immediately and in the back for about an hour before we got taken into an exam room. after Megan spoke with the Doctor the Doctor then came to us (i do not remember this Dr's name but she was also very kind, compassionate and thorough in all her explanations) she outlined the severity of Daisy's symptoms and the extent of the care that she would need and the risks involved, and after a lot of discussion with my partner we decided it was ABSOLUTELY in Daisy's best interest to let her sleep peacefully. And although this was such an unexpected decision and it absolutely broke me to do it, i NEVER felt pressured to do this, Megan the vet tech and the Doctor did not force me to do this, they gave me every option possible. They got her comfortable, They brought her to me and gave me and my partner time to say goodbye, i had decided i didnt want to be present while they put her to sleep as it was just too hard for me. Megan the tech stayed with me in the lobby while i waited for my boyfriend to come out the exam room. She was sleeping eternally at 3am on 01/08 The paperwork was easy, i signed and picked out the urn for my baby, due to our financial situation we signed a "promise to pay" for me to pay over the next week so i could get her ashes back. It was all very simple and affordable and they are working with a timeline that fits my pay schedule. I just have to end this very long winded review that the specific drs and techs that we saw were absolutely amazing, i would recommend trying to get appointments with Dr Z and her team if you can, Im happy that they even gave my baby a chance to try and treat her condition, her health just declined so rapidly and that was no ones fault. Thank you VCA for giving my girl a chance, it gave me a few extra days to love on her before letting her rest with dignity and peace.

Since we had been to this emergency vet before, and they are open 24 hours a day (thank heavens!), I left my daughter at home and drove our poor failing kitty down to them for euthanasia. From the moment I walked in the door, the wonderful staff took charge immediately and were extremely compassionate and kind to me. After ushering kitty and me to their private 'family bereavement' room, they walked me through all the options available for when a beloved pet is being put to sleep, and they were very sensitive to my feelings...and my sobbing so hard, I could barely speak. Their kindness made this whole necessary event much more bearable for me. After it was mercifully over, I was able to go back home and give my daughter a good report and assure her that our much-loved kitty was treated very kindly at the end and didn't suffer one bit. But Dr. Horton, all of the veterinarians, and all of the technicians and front desk staff are consistently excellent and I wish I could remember all their names!. Facility is great and I'll get to one very important detail about the facility in a minute, but it's spacious, plenty of room for customers and their pets, plenty of exam rooms, and a nice restroom, plus the pet-themed artwork is great. I really like the online presence, with automated scheduling, conversing with staff, and even the ability to specify technician or specific veterinarian. Now, based on my most recent experience, I wanted to call attention to the comfort room. Unfortunately I had to euthanize one of my cats last week, and not only did they get me in quickly - which should not go unrecognized - but that entire comfort room experience is about as good as it gets. The room itself is incredibly well thought out, with nice calming music, plenty of tissues, comfortable seating, the right low lighting (don't overlook that, it's part of the transitional euthanasia experience), and pleasant decorations. I don't mind one bit that there's some display of (forgive me if this isn't the right term) remembrance artifcacts depending on your method of handling the remains, I actually thought that was a nice touch. They planned this room out really well when building the facility, you can drive right up to it's dedicated entrance, so you don't have to walk through the main area crying your eyes out. But that's all about the facility, let's not forget how compassionate and sympathetic the staff who handle that experience are. And not fake sympathy either, legitimate care and concern. And great attention to detail. Whether it's routine care, purchasing supplies, or euthanasia, Dove Mountain Veterinary handles all of it deftly. And reasonably priced, too.
