I told the doctor she just had X-rays and we know about a geriatric dog has thinning in the C, T and we just needed her chest X-ray. they took advantage of our feelings to get MONEY. They exhibited kindness, compassion, honestly and sincere concern. Dr. Moore, a surgeon, reviewed the history and prior reports thoroughly and actually saved the kitten from a risky and expensive surgery, opting for a less invasive procedure. If I could leave zero stars I would. My dogs eye was extremely damaged. I realized that this was an emergency so I went to what I thought was an urgent care. There is nothing urgent about this place. I checked in at 12:09. I was put into a room within a few minutes. They took his temperature and that was it. A veterinarian never came into our room to assess the eye or look at our dog. I came out and asked at 2 PM when we would be seen and they said that the vet was busy with other patients and would be with us shortly. I tried to be patient and understanding, but my dog was in extreme pain, and the fact that he was not even evaluated was starting to become very frustrating. By 3 PM We still were not seen. I have been sitting in a room for three hours with no communication. I came out and I spoke with the receptionist again and she was very rude and said that it was standard that the wait was 2 to 4 hours. I told her that this is something that they should communicate when you check in and she said well it is standard once again and I said that may be standard for you but not for everybody else in this world, they should relay that information to you when you check in so that way you're not just sitting around wondering how long it's gonna take not only that but people have other things going on in their lives, I have a child that was in school that needed to be picked up. And then when I told her that she asked me if I wanted to leave and said that there were signs posted with how long the wait was, and when I pointed out to her that there were no signs and asked her to show them to me. She laughed in my face. We ended up leaving going to another vet, which told me he needed emergency surgery to have his eye removed, then we had to find another emergency vet clinic! His Globe had ruptured and the lens was falling out. We ended going to VEG they are amazing I highly highly recommend them they actually care about animals there! I will never recommend VSCOT. They should have more concern for their patients and their customers with knowing how expensive veterinary care is going to be. They lost out on $4000. But they wasted my time and let my dog sit in agony for hours with no remorse. Not assessing a patients that come into an urgent care is insane! And malpractice. read more

I took my dog to the hospital because he was attacked and has been bleeding the first place I took him was closed. When I called the SECOND place I mentioned I don't have money rn for anything if there is anything they can do. They told me about a pet credit something about some kind of scratch and pay something along those lines. I WAS NEVER TOLD I HAD TO PAY ANYTHING UPFRONT!!! They tell me to bring my dog in and we can fill out the forms. When I got there they take my dog back and give us forms to fill out. Well two minutes goes by the same lady I was on the phone with comes in and tells us it's 800$ upfront and we are like what do you mean. She says 800$ upfront or we have to bring your dog out. We of course get upset because how can we call and you reassure us and we bring him and it's the complete opposite!! It's very unexpected and I'm not sure what to do now. We brought our cat in not knowing what was wrong. She's a new mother having given birth 2/24/2026 to 4 beautiful kittens. We felt no compassion from the staff at all. Their main and only concern was money and not for the well being of our cat. The DMV said that she was convinced that she (the cat) got into something toxic. We could not think of anything she could have gotten into. They ran 1 test to check her calcium level which came back within normal ranges. Then they wanted us to leave her there for in to tune of $2000-6000 dollars. We are senior citizens living on Social Security. By the way this was on a Friday night. They gave us a list of low cost vets which they had to have known were not open on weekends. We they started talking about putting her down I had to leave the room with tears streaming down my face. This is the second time I have had my 13 year old dog at the Veterinary Specialty Center this year. The first time he had pancreatitis and this time he had a cancerous sarcoma on his back left leg. Dr. Klaus and the team helped me deterimine that the cancer had not metastasized to other organs. Dr. Moore and the surgical team (Barbara and Rocky) were amazing. They got the tumor out and he is recovering. Most importantly it is clear that they understand that pets are family and communicate so effectively with the owners. This was the worst experience I've EVER had at a veterinarian/hospital. I took my cat in on a Saturday due to urinary issues, straining to pee, decreased urinary output, and he seemed uncomfortable. Worried about blockage that is fatal to cats. I arrived at 1145 am. I was triaged quickly and he was brought back out to me in the waiting area. I wish I would have left at that point and called our veterinarian Pusche Ridge Pet Clinic, who are amazing btw, had I known it wasn't emergent. My cat is NOT friendly and just getting him there was traumatic for him. I decided to wait to be seen by the veterinarian since we were already there. They called us into a room at 215 pm. She came in and examined him and told me the tests she'd like to run. She told me to go grab a coffee or a bite to eat that it would be 30 minutes but 2 hours for his X-rays to be read by radiologist. She apologized for the wait, which I am an RN that works in a hospital, so I totally get it. I understand emergencies do happen. I was told I would be called, but never was, and returned at 415. The front desk said they told them I was back and I waited in the lobby expecting them to call me back and get my cat. Finally at 515, I went back up to the desk asking what the status was. Front desk went into back again, and said they were still waiting for radiology to read, telling me it could be another hour and that they would call me. I decided to go home to feed my family. At 6:30 still nothing, I called them and was placed on hold for "the back" for 30 minutes. At that time I was told by the tech "X-rays were just being done because kitty just wasn't having it and they were sedating him. They will be ready in an hour." Mind you, I was told they were completed at 4:15 by the front. I called them again at 8pm. They told me he would be ready to go by 9. I waited. And waited. And waited. Checking out they said what a "sweetie" he was, at this point I knew they were lying. My cat is NOT a "sweetie", never has been. I didn't get home with my cat until after midnight! Not only am I out $1500 dollars, but I have NEVER experienced anything as HORRIBLE as my experience with this place. PLEASE go elsewhere! read more

We recently brought our Aussie in for an ultrasound only to discover he had cancer which had spread to multiple body parts so we had to say goodbye and our hearts are broken. From the front desk to the vet assistants to the vets, we were treated with kindness and support and understanding. Over the years, we have had dogs treated for valley fever, snake bites and other ailments. They have saved some of our dogs. Yes, it's expensive but consider what it must costs to run such a large and comprehensive facility. You bring your dog here if it's an emergency and your regular vet is not available. We really must be thankful that we have this hospital here in Tucson. read more

12/31/24...My Rottweiler Bella suddenly developed poor appetite over the last 24-36 hours which is extremely out of the ordinary because she is food driven. She had TPLO surgery 12/11/24 to her right knee and then developed urinary retention 3 days later after noting she hadn't urinated in 24-30 hours. I called this Vet clinic and they wanted to charge me even more money to have her assessed for a complication that was a result from the $7k surgery. Thankfully, she finally urinated after 32 hours. I was obviously very concerned with Bella's poor appetite and I had also noticed serosanguineous discharge coming from her staples that were still in 20 days post surgery as well as warmth and swelling. After she was examined by a Vet tech, she was found to have a fever. I then had a female Veterinarian come to assess her that was initially afraid of Bella despite no growling or any aggressive behavior. I informed her that I believe the staples were the root cause because they should have been removed 2 weeks post surgery. I recommended x-rays to be sure the TPLO didn't fail. A few minutes later, the Vet tech came back in with an estimate of $997 and change which infuriated me because again, this is a post-op complication of the surgery she had 20 days prior. They were going to charge me an emergency visit exam rate because they said she is new to this clinic despite having surgery there on 12/11/24 . They also wanted to use anesthesia AGAIN to perform x-rays and remove the staples which they charge about $200 to push a small amount of propofol. Look, I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care and Urgent Care. I have 9 years experience as a Combat Medic; 18 years as a RN in ICU and ER; and 7 years as a NP. I would LOVE to anesthetize with propofol a lot of patients when I suture them; staple them; remove fingernails and toenails and doing incision and drainage because it's much easier when they don't move or make noise. Unfortunately, it's not allowed in human medicine. I informed her that I would pay but I had every intention of filing a legal suit against them for medical malpractice. She left the room and about 30 minutes later, the female Veterinarian came back in just as I was about to leave. She said she had spoken with the surgeon Dr. Moore and he recommended oral antibiotics and to continue leaving the staples in until our previous follow-up on 1/10/25 which would mean that her staples would be in for a total of 30 days. Instead of an almost $1000.00 bill, I paid about $62 for the antibiotics which I could have prescribed myself and paid $13 at Walmart Pharmacy. This place only cares about one thing.... Brian R. Her eyes seemed perfectly fine before Veterinary Specialty Center did they're eye tests on her and even if they weren't fine prior they did a lousy job because they didn't pick up the corneal ulcers where as VEG saw them without even having to do a stain! So thankfully Mac and Cheese is alive and well and survived the mutilation that VSAC submitted her to! The only reason she survived is because me and my daughter Wyllow became veterinarians overnight! Through research, taking sleeping shifts, cleaning/disinfecting the wound 3 times a day, antibiotics twice daily, hand feedings, keeping hydration with a syringe, vitamin supplements, and round the clock supervision to ensure cone attachment together we nursed her back to health. Our veterinary skills are so good that she has no long term effects, no scarring, and her fur even grew back! In fact...you can't even tell she even had an injury, and almost died at all! However, despite her survival I am still pursuing justice and fighting for something to be done! Our 8-year old Frenchie was admitted earlier this month with breathing problems that were breed-related (Frenchies are brachycephalic). She was put in an oxygen tent for three days and stabilized. The staff did an excellent job communicating updates, caring for her and also recommended we do the surgery to help her breathe better. Our Frenchie was diagnosed with BOAS. We brought her back a week later, and Dr. Moore performed her surgery. It's been almost two weeks since she had the surgery, which was done with lasers, and the difference in her breathing is nothing short of amazing. The surgery aims to remove the enlarged soft tissue in the upper airway and also remove the laryngeal saccules that sat at the entrance to her airway. We are so glad we did this and really encourage other Frenchie owners who are experiencing this to strongly consider this option. They kill your pets here. Look online. They charge and change and make them worse and worse until they die and you owe them thousands. We took our dog to a vet 3 days ago and she was fine.  They absolutely refused to give what we asked that she needed.  My dog had been with a specialist for 10 years and they needed to call her.  They refused to call the specialist. They refused to give her the medication she needed.  They just wanted us to pay more and more as she got worse and worse because they would not give her the care.  They ignored her when they gave her fluids and now has a plural effusion in her lungs.  The vet told us that they over did the fluids. They refused to clean her from diarrhea to the point where there were sores all over her bottom in 24 hours. My dog came in for medicine in an iv and 2.5 days later she is dead.  Where can I report them? It's never a good thing to have to come here, and unfortunately I've been here many times over the past 15 years. But I've always had a good experience with service or staff. The people who work here are professional, caring, compassionate and incredibly tolerant of anxious pet parents. This facility is nice looking and always spotless, there's even a lounge area with free coffee and water and a vending machine with snacks (emergency vet visits tend to involve a lot of waiting.) If you are a young person, especially a young woman and come here alone ... do not. You will not receive respect you deserve. The staff (front desk/techs) are very kind and considerate, it's the one particular vet (blonde woman) I had problems with. She came in, didn't ask me any questions and handed me a bill. I was confused but listened to her talk. She talked for about 5 minutes and I cut her off because it seemed like she didn't have my story right (I assumed maybe she and the vet had misread my situation or the tech didn't write everything down.) I started telling her my situation and getting a word in felt like a fistfight with her ... the woman wouldn't let me talk! I believe her name is Lauren Kelly? That's the name at least that was on my form. Eventually, she gave me an ultimatum to pay for a $9,000+ surgery or put down my cat. When I asked if there were other options, she went on and on about how I should pay or else it would be animal cruelty. She told me, "if you take him home, you're giving him a death sentence. The surgery needs to be done tonight" (mind you, my kitten was still eating, pooping, peeing etc ... he had foreign objects in his stomach) I asked to leave with my kitten. They had me sign a document saying I refused treatment. Paid $170 for 2 hours of my time and no help. Took my kitty to another vet next day, got surgery done and he's been alive now for over a month. I am so grateful! If you have the option to wait and get help SOMEWHERE ELSE... please do! It's not the price I had a problem with, vet emergency care is expensive, I went in knowing that. It's the vet and the inconsiderate intimidating nature she had. She was incredibly unorganized, demeaning and just plain rude. I know she wouldn't have talked to me the way she did if I were there with another person or if I were a man. She felt like she could bully me. If I had a million cash on me, I wouldn't let her put her hands on my pet, I don't trust her. I'm so happy I didn't cave because I know she wouldn't have treated my pet (who has no voice) with respect; she couldn't give me respect! Oh yeah ... she also said "it smells like piss in here, was that you?" (My cat was never in the waiting room with me, and of course it smells like piss, it's a vet emergency waiting room) This was just an odd comment and felt like it came out of left field. My heart goes out to anyone who has experienced a situation like this. I had never had a problem with emergency vet care before but I got to see the truly evil nature some money grabbers have. Yes, VSC is very expensive, but if they were simply kind and respectful that expense would be OK. All my pets get regular wellness care, and the only bad experience I've had is at VSCOT. I've taken 4 pets to VSCOT over the years. Sudden weekend emergencies. This post would be too long if I described all the bad experiences I've had with the office people. Rude, impatient, insensitive. However the worst was seeing the tech roughly yanking my poor old dying dog from my car by her harness. When I said "she can't walk," the tech scoffed and said, "she can, she just won't." It's one thing to be mean to us humans, we have a choice about where we go, but being cruel and disrespectful to my dear old dying dog...no words. When I spoke with the veterinarians they mostly seemed competent and professional. However one was pretty humiliating , telling me to euthanize my cat NOW because I was struggling to pay for care. I can understand, maybe she thought I had the money and didn't want to pay, and she didn't want the cat to suffer. At any rate, I was really broke then, it was 2008; I was able to piece together some help and get him treated. The cat lived 12 more years. I'm glad I didn't listen to her. Last year after having another old pet euthanized, an employee brought an invoice to my car for me to sign. ($1600+) The car battery had died while I sat waiting in the parking lot for more than three hours. (Quarantine). The employee saw me try to start the car; she shrugged and walked away while I sobbed for my dead dog. No one should be treated like this, particularly on such a painful day. My dog got very sick while we were on vacation & our dog sitter had to take her into VSCOT on a moments notice - they treated her on the spot (I had arranged in advance in case of an emergency) & released her. We arrived home a few hours later, our dog wasn't any better I took her back to VSCOT a few hours later & they took her right in. She had to spend the night & most of the next day, they were very professional, and helpful. You need to remember this is mostly an emergency veterinary hospital, specialty care, so the care won't be cheap but they will take excellent care of your pet. read more

The specialty staff here at VSCOT is amazing. They got us through years of health issues with our dog, starting with Dr. Vishkautsan in internal medicine and the ultrasound/radiologists that helped us with his stomach issues and heart murmur. Dr. V is so smart and logical, and also pragmatic and compassionate. She's amazing and we can't thank her enough. She made his issues, that were so bad at one point, just background stuff that we easily navigated and helped him with, so he lived just about normally with her care. Dr. Ko and his tech, Jenna, became his full time neurologist/team recently, and they got us through the hardest time in our lives. (Dr. Bergman and Dr. Dantio, no longer at this location, were amazing doctors too!) The time they spent with us, the knowledge, the compassion and the empathy they showed us was astounding, for lack of better words. There will never be enough thanks or gratitude I can show them, they deserve it all and more. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them. We've also used the emergency services once or twice, and the doctors there have been thorough and helpful. The office runs very efficiently, and they understand a lot of bad stuff comes through their doors, so they make the payment processing as simple as possible (in our experience). The worst place to bring your baby ever! My 10 month old puppy was attacked by coyotes in the middle of the night, they took him in and did absolutely nothing for 9 hours! Claimed to have 'other patients' yet everyone was taking their sweet time. The lady on the phone was completely apathetic and completely rude when asking for updates. Aside from the cost of over $1,000, not accepting payment plans, and won't do anything until you pay, has been the worst experience of my life. I am glad my puppy wasn't more seriously injured because their lack of urgency and way of being nonchalant would have killed him if the coyotes didn't. Please be aware that emergency costs are much higher when bringing your pet here. Also they require payment prior to treating your pet. My Maine Coon cat was experiencing a medical emergency and we rushed him here - twice. The vets are thorough and the center provides quality care. My cat ended up staying 4 nights on visit 1 and one night on visit 2. It was costly, but they provided the best care possible. The reason for 4 stars is the cost. The staff her are very kind. My cat passed away and they helped me get him cremated and a paw print. They were kind and understanding. I asked for a feline necropsy and they did try to follow through with this, but ultimately the University was too booked. We couldn't get it done before the window of opportunity had passed (24-48 hours.) I waited several weeks before going back to the center to retrieve my cat's carrier. I was fully prepared to leave it on the back porch and clean it there because I didn't want the smell to further upset the grieving sibling. When I went to clean out the cage which had been urinated in, I realized they had washed the blanket and cleaned the cage for me already! the blanket has been washed and folded and the cage wasn't stinky.
