Back in 2014/2015 I took my precious dogs, Penelope and Jack to Central Pet and they loved it. Penelope was more interested in people and Jack played and herded. In December 2022, I adopted a fearful and reactive puppy, Matilda, who I'd all but given up on taking her in public. I work from home and am with her essentially 24/7 so she's very protective of me. When we take walks in the neighborhood, she is barking the entire time. She failed the temperament test for daycare, which did not surprise me. However, I think Talia could see how distressed I was and offered to place her in the socialization class, where I drop her off and the staff work with her to get used to people and dogs. We've been going for about 3 months now and while she's still really fearful of other people, she stops barking after a few minutes instead of barking and growling the entire time someone comes over to the house. I really appreciate the male staff for being so patient with her because she's afraid of men and I don't really have any to introduce her to. She can be naughty in daycare but they are still working with her. I know she loves going so much because when we turn on Grant Road she starts getting excited and squeaking in the car. As soon as we go through the door, she does her full body wiggles, which she reserved for only her favorite people. When I pick her up she's so calm and sleeps until Wednesday or Thursday usually. She's not perfect. She might not ever be perfect, but hopefully she will be more socialized and better behaved because of all the work the staff are putting into her.

Central Pet does NOT deliver on the services they describe on their website. My dog was not fed at the times indicates. Today for example, it's already 3:52pm and he JUST was provided his lunch (which is posted on the website to be at 12pm). It appears though the lunch provided was not his, and they accidentally switched it with his neighbors. So after an hour where my dog didn't eat, they took it away. It's now 6:30pm and he still hasn't been given his dinner (posted on the website as 5pm). Today, my dog has been given four of his five "breaks" to go to the yard. Two of those lasted only 1-2 mins. The fourth one was six minutes long, however upon being returned his run he came in the outside door and ran straight through the inside door which was open. This is the second time in 24 hours they've lost containment of my dog. I asked for add-on services they have not been providing. He was supposed to get "turn down service" and daycare. They switched him out of daycare yesterday and promised two or three 20-30 min 1on1 play sessions instead. None of those have happened. My dog is clearly in distress, yet nobody is doing anything to make him more comfortable (add a privacy screen, close the outdoor run), and you can see employees walk by. This is behavior and concerns I spoke with the employees about and they reassured me they would adjust his environment as needed. I've been trying every method of contacting them today, because my dog is clearly upset and distressed, but they are actually ignoring my contacts. The only thing I know has gone through is on FB Messenger, but they've read and not responded. They say they are closed on Sunday and don't allow pick-up, and will not make an exception, yet my dog is not being treated to even the bare minimum service they say they provide. We avoided their daycare facility, which is separate, due to high volume. Apparently though they bring the daycare dogs to the boarding facility on Saturdays now and so my dog was placed in with 20+ other dogs and got overwhelmed and over excited. The entire experience has been unacceptable, and the fact they refuse to let me pick him up is also unacceptable. Everything I can see from the customer reviews, to online employees reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor, make this apparent the facility has gone downhill. Don't trust they're doing what they say -- the only reason I can confirm they didn't for my dog is I've been able to monitor the camera. Not every owner gets that luxury, and is that really how you want to spend the time away?

My poor dog looked bored and unhappy the entire time. They say their kennels are 7 x 10' but as you can see in the pictures they look much smaller considering my dog is a 64 pound medium size. I never saw him go outside rather he just stuck his head out, I'm not even sure what was out there or if he could even fit. I asked them to leave the food all day as he's a very picky eater and he will not eat on just a morning schedule and I never saw the food go back into his cage after the late morning (9:45ish) take out and there was plenty of food left but never given. And not given back. I picked him up after 3 days with ribs showing. I did notice that they changed his bedding daily and it seemed he was taken care of even though he always looked bored. Of course there was a mishap where somebody didn't tell somebody, when I was supposed to pick my dog up and he was not ready to go, or bathed. However thanks to the wonderful employee Kenya she moved mountains and made things happen in under 20 minutes. For such a young employee to know how to attend to the needs of the pet parents, I applaud Central Pet for hiring. What a fabulous employee and if she is not a manager, she should be. She is the only reason for your 3 star. According to their ads the dogs have access to animal planet. However in the pics, I can't see animal planet being played anywhere where my dog could physically see it. I have no idea if what I paid for actually was done. For instance, extra play visits, treadmill walking, and while I used their suggested chrome and Firefox browsers I got a very low picture and really that's all it was a picture the video just would not play. We're dealing with 2000 technology. Would I let him stay here again probably not. He needs a lot more action and attention. Also don't forget your Seresto collar!! We did not get ours back.

Nice idea, but poor execution this time around.

This review is based off of two dog boarding experiences in the past six months. After moving to Tucson this past summer, I came across Central Pet in an ad in the Tucson Weekly for a free night of boarding (a big plus!). Other pros: staff seems like a perfectly nice group of 20-something well-meaning females for both experiences, you can schedule the appointment online and receive a call back confirming relatively quickly, and upon check-in they re-confirm requested services and dates of boarding with you to make sure everybody's on the same page. Now for cons: 1) prices for boarding room type are not listed on the website (they have lots of options, which is great, but it's curious price is not listed as it is for other add-on services like walks, play times, etc.). It would make budgeting/planning a little easier for the owner. 2) their contract - it's pretty typical until you get to the end where it basically says you agree to any future updates to the contract without actually necessarily having to be directly informed of these updates (it mentions an announcement would be posted at the physical location). 3) we opted in for the holiday party and were told there'd be a photo or paw print keepsake, but upon checkout nothing was included from this party, except the $10 party fee on the bill. 4) for the first stay I didn't receive a "report card" but on this second visit found one at the bottom of our bag. See included photo - "Skiska broke one of Skiska's nails!" One, his name is Shiska, not Skiska. Two, nobody mentioned anything about this to me until I noticed his bleeding paw once we got home. Three, that comment written by a staff member is super unprofessional and attempts to put the blame on my dog. I realize life happens, but all you had to do was talk to me about this "problem" in person upon pickup and you might have avoided this Yelp blast. Instead I now get to wonder what else happens during a dog's stay at this location... I really wanted to like this boarding option for my animal, but am now having second thoughts.

Recently I left on tour and boarded my dogs at Central Pet (Jackrabbit). I spared no expense. Obviously, I love my dogs, and I needed to feel secure knowing they are taken care of while I'm away. I went to pick up my dogs and noticed a staff member putting on his choke collar with the prongs facing my dog Buck's face. She was sliding it over his head, prong first, whilst my dog was jumping. He's a 100lb puppy that saw me at the front desk (after a week) and got excited. I thought, hmmm, that's an odd way to put on that collar, surely these guys are the experts, so I wasn't worried. I was checking out and didn't think anything of it. While traveling home, I pet Buck and noticed he had fresh blood on his right eye. I called Central Pet immediately, as I live less than a few miles away. I noticed that his eye had a cut that looked like a prong had been drug across the eye. It was the same width as the prong on his collar and it was also on the area below his lower eye. I realized what happened, the staff put the collar on incorrectly while Buck was excited and jumping, the prong punctured the skin next to his eye, as the prongs were directed toward his face. She should have opened the collar and snapped it on, like any other individual with experience or common sense knows to do. I explained what happened to the staff and was understandably angry. My dog was hurt. I paid a lot to get my dog back without him bleeding. The owner called me a few hours later, proselytizing about what an animal lover he was, while committing to calling me first thing in the morning after taking time to interview staff. That was 11/15. I'm still waiting for that call. I encouraged him to check the videos, as they have cameras all over the place, most of which intermittently do not work. He indicated the staff that put the collar on was an "experienced groomer." That's even more concerning, the "cream of the crop" at your business, does not know how to put a collar on a dog. Just a little to the right and Buck would have lost his eye. I want to relay this concern publicly, as a levelheaded, pragmatic individual, who does not have any incentive for doing this. I paid the boarding fees (though note every time I go in, I ask them to break it down as they have previously overcharged me); I'm not asking for a discount, I have money. I'm asking for follow-up, training for your staff, and commitment to following through on what you promise. If you (Richard) can't even call an injured dog's owner back as promised, I'm certain your staff exhibit the same type of lack of follow through. Reading some of the google reviews it seems like that's a pattern. If you value your dog's safety, consider this post. If you go there currently, it's only a matter of time, until one of their staff makes a mistake, that hopefully doesn't injure your dog, because if they do injure your dog, this is the outcome and lack of concern/accountability you may expect.

LOLA likes her new doo!

They are awesome to both the dogs and the humans who work there do not leave your dog there. They lost one and are overall terrible.
