We have used Anthony for a number of different services for more than 10 years. Back in 2011, I enrolled Jack, our adopted pit-bull mix who was a double amputee, in one of Anthony's 8-week basic obedience classes. There were about 8-10 dogs of various ages and temperaments but all were large "bully" breeds. Anthony was obviously knowledgeable and experienced and used his own dogs to demonstrate commands and expected behavioral responses. He provided clear explanations of the behaviors we were seeing in each dog--their vocalizations, body language, energy level, and interactions with both people and other dogs. He instructed us on not only what to do to change the behavior but why it worked. This resulted in both a well behaved dog as well as closer bond with Jack. About a year later, Jack was recovering from prosthetic implant surgery and needed daily wound care. When he transitioned from in-clinic care with sedation to at-home care without sedation, we were overwhelmed and fearful that the treatments might result in a reactive bite. Anthony came to our home, assessed the situation, and devised a plan based on Jack's individual temperament and motivation. Anthony not only trained us how manage the situation but this strengthened the trust between us and Jack. More recently, we adopted a young pit-bull mix who had a number of issues we were struggling to deal with including some behavioral issues at home and at the dog park as well as reactivity when administering his monthly allergy injections. Again we reached out to Anthony who provided assessment at our home and at the dog park. He recommended a number of different strategies for the different situations and explained how and why each strategy worked for each specific issue. We saw immediate response and improvement. Anthony met us a number of times for follow-up and reinforcement and each time I became more confident in when and how I implemented each strategy. The changes we have observed are not limited to better behaviors but our "wild child" has become a more trusting, confident, loving family member. In each of our interactions with Anthony, he not only observes the issues but listens to our concerns, struggles and fears. He is extremely calm even when some behaviors are "over the top". My pitbull BlueCheese had problems with dog agression for ~2 years after being attacked multiple times by off-leash dogs during our neighborhood walks. We could not walk by dogs on leash without him puffing up, growling and charging towards them. We tried other board-and-train facilities with no success. Anthony was our last hope and we really wanted to work with him because he's the only trainer in the area who would expose BlueCheese to other dogs - HIS beautiful well-tempered pitbulls. We wanted to give BlueCheese a chance to have positive interactions with other dogs, under the supervision of a professional trainer. BlueCheese stayed woth Anthony for about a month and 2 weeks in he was sending us videos of BlueCheese hanging out with Anthony's pittbulls without a muzzle, with no signs of aggression. After the training Bluecheese was very relaxed - its worth noting that Anthony has a very zen energy and I saw the same in his home and in his dogs. Anthony had also perfected his leash training, so BlueCheese no longer pulls in the leash in walks and if he does he is responsive to correction. Most important of all, BlueCheese responds to correction when he starts to tense up around other dogs. We met anthony a couple of weeks after board-and-train and we practiced walking around other dogs on leash (we had not attempted this yet after training). We could not believe it was possible for bluecheese to ignore other dogs, it took one correction for him to remember his training and get the message. Anthony's training method is balanced (uses rewards and corrections), he is professional and punctual as he works primarily by appointment. I would say that if you want to see your dog on camera and get updates every second of every day Anthony is not the trainer for you. Anthony provides updates weekly, sometimes more often if good progress is made. The point is that you will have to trust your best friend's well being to Anthony, we are glad we did. We are so happy with the experience that we started boarding BlueCheese with Anthony periodically for one night, only so he gets to hang out with the pack again and continue having those positive interactions with dogs. BlueCheese gets excited every time we go back and gets super happy to see Anthony, reassurance that he had a good time during the month of training. read more

Anthony did rattle snake avoidence training with my girl today. I need to be honest and tell you that I can be very annoying when it comes to my animals. I ask a lot of questions, I verbalize my expectations and I even annoy myself! I adore my pet's and don't blindly trust people with them. He answered all my questions with patience and detail. My need for a trainer began with our newly adopted 8 year old Pit Bull who was a dream to walk until we encountered another dog on a leash and it was a combination of embarrassing lunges and barking, hiding on neighbor's driveways to avoid conflict and physically trying to contain my dog on the leash. After researching every advertised trainer in the Tucson area, I settled on Anthony. For hours, I read through every review written about him and I decided if the reviews were anything to go on, his services were closest to our needs. I was not disappointed. Sadly, early on in our sessions, Blue passed away and we were unable to achieve our goal of introducing him to a life on the leash without fear or anxiety. Having said all of this, in the brief time I worked with Anthony, I was impressed by his method of taking the time to understand the root of my dog's problems first and balancing the training of consequence for unwanted behavior with the critical timing of reward for good behavior, all in a very compassionate manner. I knew then that I would seek his services again if our next dog needed help. Enter Fiona, our 1 year old Pit Bull who had zero knowledge of living inside a house. There was no question who I would call but at the time our first lesson was to begin, the local sheltering in place restrictions made it impossible for Anthony to meet her as planned. Thank goodness he reinvented his business to include video training and it was no time that we were finding ourselves learning basic obedience via videos that included audio direction and the very helpful demonstration of Anthony using a dog in his home. My husband and I are the proud owners of a very handsome, male, Weimaraner puppy, Hunter who started to show fear aggression toward strangers when he was about 7 months old. He had already nipped a family friend and a neighbor and I had court issues resulting from the nip of the neighbor (which are still ongoing!) Life with Hunter was getting very stressful but our love for him was well developed and our need for help was blatant. We consulted with three "trainers" prior to consulting with Anthony. Our oldest Daughter had worked with Anthony in training our grand doggie pit bull, B0NES to become a service dog years prior, so she recommended Anthony to us. By the time we consulted with Anthony, Hunter's need for help was very serious so we agreed that Hunter go to board and train with Anthony. Originally Hunter was going for one month, but due to Hunter needing more time to warm up to Anthony his time was extended to two months. It was a very hard time for us, but we knew that Hunter needed help and getting that help was the priority over our emotions in missing him. I cried many tears and feared Hunter would forget us. Hunter returned home and we trained with Anthony upon his return. Hunter had already significantly become conditioned. We have trained ongoing with Anthony and have done all of our home work with Hunter, i.e,. place training and walking more regularly and his progress is beyond impressive. Today was Hunter's first vet visit since he has been home from board and train and the visit went perfectly. I had stressed for days about it and I am over the moon! We were passing through Tucson and wanted to visit the Pima Air and Space museum but didn't want to leave our "special needs" pup Groucho in the car for 2-3 hours under the sun. It's hard to find boarding that will accept a dog aggressive dog - virtually non existent. Found Anthony online and asked if we could board him for a few hours and let him eat and/or relieve himself as our puppy also won't go number 2 on a leash. I explained that our pit bull/Dalmatian mix is fine with adults buts gets anxious and aggressive around other dogs. Anthony walks on water. He took our territorial French bull dog from a willful, unruly family member to an obedient joy to live with and to walk on a leash. He trained us how to train our dog in our own home, and helped us understand how to apply these lessons to any future pets we may have. Without Anthony's help it would have only been a matter of time before our dog got herself in trouble, now she's a joy to walk, and we are better dog owners because of the experience. Quick Details: He offers in-home sessions, with boarding and training options available. He sells materials directly, or provides you resources and recommendations to buy them on your own. Things like collars, leashes, dog food rolls for training, etc. Packages are goal and objective based not limited to a specific number of sessions. Keep in mind it is on the owner to actually apply the knowledge of these sessions in order to see results. We paid $1,000 for what turned out to be 10+ sessions, and spent another $200 or so on materials. End result was very worth it, and we feel confident in our ability to carry the training further. The Long Story: My wife and I impulsively rescued a beautiful and lovely American Bull-dog Maggie that was on her last days before being put down. She had been a difficult dog to place because she had A LOT of energy, and even more when put on a leash. She would make a scene if she saw other dogs, and exhibit what some might see as aggressive behavior, but really was a dog frustrated that she couldn't go play with everyone and every dog. We knew we needed a trainer, because this was the first dog we owned as adults. We hadn't a clue where to begin to train a dog that didn't have behavior issues, let alone one this uncontrollable. We couldn't go with some Petsmart/Petco dog training class because of the fact that when around other dogs on a leash she goes crazy. The reason we picked Anthony's K-9 is because of reviews we saw online, and that he had a history of working with reactive dogs, specifically bully breads. Within a day of contacting him we heard back and an appointment was scheduled to evaluate our dog. He arrived on-time, and our dog loved him on site. We discussed our goals and expectations of the training, and he evaluated our dog in our home. We were very upfront that the dog had extreme leash reactivity and that walking Maggie was nightmare. He explained his extensive experience with dog training, how he got into the business and that he is truly passionate about the trade and frequently studies and keeps up on it. We agreed on a basic obedience package, which covered the basics of sit, stay, come-when-called, and leash etiquette. It also included "place mat" training where the dog will go and stay in a predefined place until given a release command. The packages don't include a specific number of lessons but more requires that we reach our goals in however long that takes within reason. Session last typically an hour, and cover a few objectives. We were having a lot of success getting Maggie to learn and she enjoyed the sessions. It is important to Anthony that he also see that you and your dog are doing your homework for the sessions to be productive. It wasn't until our 4th session that Anthony actually got to see her leash behavior first hand. He realized we weren't exaggerating regarding her behavior and that we needed some special care. So we moved up from pinch collars to an electric collar. He trained us how to use, and was very sensitive to our concerns regarding how humane this solution was. After a session with the collar he knew that it would be better for us and Maggie if he boarded her for a week or two to really recondition this behavior. Boarding and doggie boot-camp packages are typically extra compared to the basic obedience package, but Anthony was dedicated to producing the results within the quote we all agreed on so he swallowed the cost. After a few weeks with Anthony in doggie-boot camp we got our Maggie back better than ever, and she was still the happy dog we loved, but way less crazy. During the time he had her, he kept us informed with videos and texts regarding her progress. We worked with Anthony a few more weeks after that, but eventually got to a point where we could manage on our own. Even though we no longer see Anthony on a weekly basis we could still call him up for some emergency maintenance sessions if needed. I found Anthony about 4 years ago when I adopted my American Bulldog/Pitbull mix Sharpie. She showed aggression occasionally with other dogs, that began to increase with my stress and tension when we came across other pups. Originally I worked with one of Anthony's employees, Monique. Sharpie did a 3 week board and train where she spent time learning how to be a dog and socialize with Anthony's pack. Ever since then I have not had a single incident with Sharpie's dog aggression, and every time have to go out of town Sharpie boards with Anthony. When I leave her with Anthony I don't have to think twice about the care she is getting or worry about her behavior. She knows when we pull up to Anthony's and can't get to the door fast enough. I completely trust Anthony with my dog, and now that im moving out of AZ, that is the biggest thing I will miss. My only thoughts on that are what really matters is how they are with your dog, which I can attest to is amazing. I was referred by an organization that no longer works with the owner/trainer and I have regretted it ever since. A few of my friends warned me, but I thought if an organization that deals with "aggressive" dogs would refer me here, then I would take their word. I paid over $1,000 for training and had one session, the next was canceled due to a 'last second trip' (he was already out of town when I showed up for my appointment), it took 3 weeks to get in contact with him as he never returned my calls. I finally had to stop by his shop - he ultimately put me on his 'very busy' schedule 3 weeks down the road. I called from a friend's cell phone and spoke to the owner/trainer about issues I had with a fake dog and he was suprisingly able to set me up with an immediate evaluation and could get me in the next day to start training. I highly recommend not using this facility and if you do, pay AFTER you get your training. If the lack of completed training isn't enough to make you look elsewhere, you need to look at the entire facility- inside and outside. Inside, there is usually dangerous items on the floor, stacked by a wall, in a corner and so forth. Originally, the exterior was replete with junk - literal junk - which made me think of the last time I had a tetanus shot. Now there's plywood leaned up against a fence 'protecting the dogs from junk', with cement blocks at their base, supposedly holding them in place (high winds or monsoon anyone?). Not to mention a dog gets excited or simply playing can severely injure another dog (broken teeth, cuts, gashes, eyes lost). Additionally, he has exposed studs which the dogs can chew on. It would be akin to taking your kid to daycare and they use an electric fence. read more

Anthony was great to work with. He helped our stubborn husky master the leash. She was once very reactive to other dogs in the neighborhood and it made our walks stressful. As the second trainer/facility in town that I have checked out, I was once again disappointed. I had seen the owner at a few events around town with his pits. They were very well behaved and impressively trained. I had done a lot of research on the internet about this place, so I went to check it out. And I am glad I did before paying a $75 evaluation fee. This place was like an old dungeon inside with the walls and ceiling looking like they are falling apart. The floor had numerous pieces missing and was not appealing at all. The owner was not professional, and was very dismissive. The groomer seemed a little more upbeat, but one of the daycare staff wouldn't even make eye contact and avoided me like the plague. I can't attest to the training of this place, but I don't even want to take the chance. read more
