I had a heartbreaking and deeply disappointing experience at Jackpot Veterinary Center. I brought my dog Elio in on April 11 with serious and sudden changes in behavior: lethargy, urinating in the house, and sleeping in odd places. Dr. Grady dismissed these symptoms as signs of aging and did not run any diagnostics, not even basic bloodwork. Less than three weeks later, Elio passed away from undetected abdominal cancer. What followed made everything worse. I reached out multiple times to express my concerns and grief and was met with silence for nearly three weeks. Arianna Carter, the practice manager, eventually responded but made repeated attempts to call me despite my being Deaf and having made it abundantly clear, verbally and in writing, that I can only communicate by email or text. This disregard for my access needs added to my pain and made me feel completely disrespected. Even after I explicitly requested email communication, I was still told a phone call had been attempted and only then received a generic response explaining the nature of the cancer. While I appreciate the medical explanation, it did not address the lack of urgency, the poor communication, or the failure to acknowledge the harm caused by their delay. I'm sharing this not out of spite, but because I would not want another pet owner, especially one who is Deaf or disabled, to go through what I did. I hope Jackpot Veterinary Center takes a serious look at how they handle client communication, medical concerns, and accessibility. read more

Someone seemed to have put my appointment in the wrong place and they didn't have a vet to see me, even though I received a text from them confirming my appointment. Not only was the receptionist extremely rude and unapologetic, she told me I could wait at least an hour to be seen. My senior dog was shaking and I asked if she could call me 15 minutes before they were ready and I would come back. She advised she couldn't do that. I said I would leave and come back in an hour and she said if I leave, I lose my appointment. The only thing she offered was a new appointment 8 days from today. My dog has been going to this vet since we moved here and they have been fine until now. I would not recommend them based on the horrible and nasty attitude of the office staff. read more

This service is technically proficient. But, guard your wallet. They exist on the principal that if you are bringing your pet to casas adobes for vet service, you will gladly spend any amount asked. They will pile on the services and charge human + rates. Took my dog for a blood test for cushings disease at recommendation of a friend vet. These guys took two trips and $1100 to do the test. My dog was a patient at Jackpot for three years. I took my dog in one night at 6 o'clock with a bleeding broken toenail. Posted office hours are 7 am - 7 pm. The doctor on call refused to see him, even though he was regularly there for allergy issues, because he/she had calls to make for an hour before closing. I had to take the dog to Pet Emergency and wait three hours. They trimmed the nail in five minutes. I told the office that I planned to change vets and they would not fill his heart worm prescription. Shocking business practice, very disappointing. read more

We had left Jackpot after quite a while. Had good experiences with some there. However, after not only experiencing and hearing others questionable experiences with Pazel, we also left. We recently found out Dr Pazel is no longer there, and she went to another veterinarian practice. Just hope she doesn't potentially severely harm any more pets and actually keeps her mind on what she is doing and stop acting spacey and listen to the pet owners. The Jackpot Veterinary Team is wonderful and absolutely worth the drive across town (we are on the far East side of Tucson)! They are excellent at accommodating busy schedules and work hard to fit you in for last minute appointments. I highly recommend all of the Jackpot Equine Veterinarians, but our regular vet is Dr. Lindsey Smogor. Dr. Smogor takes care of our horses like they are her own! She provides us with the best preventative, diagnostic, and emergency medical care. Dr. Smogor is incredible as she asks for a detailed history and takes owner insights into account when working on a diagnosis for your horse. Her openness to owner feedback and amazing intuition led to the correct diagnosis of our horse with early onset PPID. She has helped us with foaling, castration, surgery, lameness, degloving, diagnosis, euthanasia, and everything in between. Dr. Smogor is equally as kind, compassionate, and professional whether you need her for normal appointment hours or on a late night emergency. We have used many Equine Veterinarians in Southern Arizona, but we are most impressed with Dr. Smogor, she is absolutely our go to equine veterinarian! My dog had been doing some reverse sneezing occasionally for a fews months and it was escalating, but Wednesday night she had 6-7 serious bouts and was making noises with her breathing. I called my vet, but they didn't have an appointment available. They suggested an emergency vet. Instead I called Jackpot Veterinary Center, my sister's vet. They were WONDERFUL and set up her appointment for 5:00 that day. Dr. Glen Grady was the veterinarian I met with. He wanted me to give him my thoughts and observations even before he examined Maddie. He also asked several questions. It was obvious that he was very interested in having all the background he could get. I had not seen that kind of interest and concern with my other vet. He examined Maddie and took her to an area with equipment to look deeper into her throat. He was wonderful with Maddie and suggested a course of action for the most likely cause which included some meds. The technician quickly get the meds and paperwork to me. Their bill was very reasonable considering I was not a patient, and I had a late day appointment. I took Maddie home and administered the first doses of the meds. It has been three days now and ALL REVERSE SNEEZING is gone! Before I left Jackpot Veterinary Center, I asked if they would accept Maddie as a new patient and asked them to request her medical records from my former vet of 8 years. Linda read more

All of the staff from the front office to the back office, the vets, techs, all support staff have always been kind, professional, well informed and compassionate. Everyone always tries to do their very best to give pets and their people a great experience, and we could not be happier. We recommend them highly without reservation. I love that they follow up with you after each visit, and I appreciate the friendly appointment reminders by text. It's very helpful. I have come here a few times when my dog needs care and have a bunch of associates and family members who also are clients here. My last visit was about a month ago but I have since decided not to go back unless it's crucial. I say all this to say, the hospital is good, we love Kristy and Michelle, the manager is a sweetheart but the heavier set receptionist (can't think of her name) is very rude and nasty. She acts as if you, the client are bothering her, and I've witnessed her have the same attitude towards other people when I am present. I understand this lady may be stressed but she needs to recognize that clients are also stressed. I always try to avoid her when I did visit the hospital but the energy is very strong. She is very hostile and it makes you not want to continue dealing with the place as a whole. I've since moved over to Catalina Pet hospital which is also not perfect, but we always feel welcomed and heard. The rest of the staff at Jackpot is Amazing but only a few are very knowledgeable about veterinary medicine. The constant waiting for answers, the doctors never getting back to you in time, and waiting on results is ridiculous, when you are speaking to one receptionist another will jump in and make the conversation confusing. Majority of the staff is great, my dog always received amazing care but that is not all someone looks for when choosing a hospital for their pets. Just transferred my pet care to their clinic due to moving, and was experiencing an emergency with my Maine Coon cat, Rhaegar. I had already spent a lot of money at the emergency vet and Rhae's issues were still not resolved. I called Jackpot on Sunday am (yes, they are open on Sunday) and they were able to fit him into their schedule that day. Their vets and techs communicate their concerns and procedures in advance. After 2 days, Rhae's issue was resolved! The ongoing construction is a nuisance, but they work around it well. read more

Hi. I scheduled an appointment 10 days ago 11/8/2021 with this facility. Cheri told me that she would investigate and inquire regarding a low cost fee sliding scale for a pet care visit. I was told that they offer sliding scale (or reduced fees) for pet care needs. I had a scheduled appointment for today 11/18/2021, and I was denied any assistance and was referred to another location for pet care needs. My cat is very sick and I scheduled this appointment with that in mind. To now have to re-schedule elsewhere put my pet's needs at risk. How can you do that, and state you care for animals????. Had I known they offered NO assistance, I would not have considered your Vet center as an option. Under no circumstances can you bait and then switch your agenda, when an animal who is sick cannot wait for another two weeks or even longer. Not very professional. read more

I am so grateful to have a facility like Jackpot in Tucson. They're open seven days a week from 7-7, which has been a lifesaver on the evenings and weekends when my regular longtime vet is not open. It's also nice to have an alternative to the emergency vets, which seem to only be able to take acute cases (understandable) and come at a higher cost. I've always been able to get an appointment at Jackpot within 24 hours- most of the time I've been seen the same day- and the staff is friendly and efficient. Our dog Jackson is a patient of Dr. Callie Hoover. She is the most thorough Dr. Today, I called because the previous night, I thought Jackson had a hemorrhoid. They squeezed us in. (this was a Saturday.) from the moment I called to leaving the office, We were treated so well. When we saw Dr.Hoover, it turned out it wasn't a hemorrhoid after all. Stay away. Nice people but they seem to have a sort of "disconnect.". We adopted 2 dogs from the shelter who had some problems. Took them in, ran a lot of tests ($3,500 later). We had to, literally, call time after time to get follow-up. In essence, they prescribed anti-diarrheal (which is available over the counter btw) and nothing else. Fortunately, both dogs recovered on their own. Worst experience ever. Internal controls appear to be lacking - but they certainly will charge you for this rather pathetic level of care. Took them to another vet and had their "tests" transferred. To be safe, we re-ran all tests. One dog had some heart issues that needed to be addressed and the other had another issue was addressed with medication. While these "indicators" were in their original tests that Jackpot ran - they did "nothing" and provided no care. I might add that the tests etc. (essentially replicating what Jackpot had done) cost us another $1,800. I am an attorney and currently am thinking about filing a complaint and a small claims action against them. While a large sum of money, it is the lack of care and seemingly indifference that concerns me. I am certain others have experienced this with Jackpot. They seem to have some real internal control problems (except with their billing dept) that need to be addressed immediately. We now avoid this place like the plague. Not sure about the "good" reviews - can only assume that they are far out of date or the people do not have a sophistication level to assess what kind of care their pets are receiving. On a final note, my sister is a vet out of Texas and reviewed the tests and was "shocked" that certain basic things were not addressed with follow-up and proper protocol. Avoid this place at alls costs. They will certainly bill you but will not, in my opinion, provide a level of care that will help your pet. read more

I cannot say enough about this vet center. I would highly recommend I went the first time as my dog has collapsing trachea and has developed a rather hoarse cough, and I felt really bad for her, the first time the vet was very sympathetic and offered some treatment plans with the cost. They also recommended an echo, which for my senior dog is not really an option as she can't really be sedated as she almost died on the table when she had her teeth cleaned previously at another vet. However the antibiotic and meds given treated her for a short time for this non curable condition. I came back for a recheck $40 and was able to get an appointment within a couple of days which is astounding especially around this time, Dr. Otto and her staff were super compassionate and helpful when it came to treatment plans for my senior dog with collapsing trachea, she is not doing much better and coughing less and I am super happy at the cost estimate compared to other vets. You can't go wrong at this vet center!! read more

First of all, the vet we worked with did do a good job of fixing our daughter's dog up. I don't want to try to trash this clinic. They were able to get us in as an emergency and they took care of our pup. They are doing remodeling and they were careful to explain this to me over the phone so I was prepared for the experience. The problems that I have with this clinic basically boil down to two things. One, they seem to recommend the most expensive path to healing rather than the most logical. I am not a vet but I've been taking pets to them for 40 years so I know it from the client side of it. This seems to be the new norm with veterinarians. I hate it when I can't just take my dogs to my regular vet who doesn't do this. The second major issue I have is how they did the estimate of the costs. They have several categories, and on the low side of a few of the categories it was $0. So I assumed those are categories that might not be used or applied. There was a HUGE difference between their low estimate and their higher estimate. We asked questions and felt like we were comfortable with going forward with treatment (it's not like we had a choice, the dog needed treatment). We expected the bill to be in the middle somewhere if there were no complications. As it turned out, there were no complications and it all went according to the plan and yet we were being charged just shy of the highest amount estimated. When I asked for an explanation, I came to understand that the things they estimated a possible $0 on were actually things that never should have been $0 on the low end. For instance, one category was for the vets time to do the procedure. I naively thought if they estimated $0 on the low side that the office visit must cover their time or at least a portion of it. Why on earth would you give a client an estimate with $0 (on the low end of the estimate) IF THERE WAS NO POSSIBILITY IT WOULD BE ZERO??! Maybe you don't know how long something will take you but you still know it will cost something! That is so misleading! This happened in two other categories as well. Be honest and upfront with people if you want them to trust you. I think the vets here will do their best to take care of your pet but just know if you're given an estimate with a price range, you should probably expect to pay the high end. read more

I've used this veterinary service for our horses and now my cat. Big or small, they do an excellent job of analyzing whatever the medical problem is. I requested an appointment to try and get some sort of interpretation on my dog's bloodwork from a different vet since we moved out of town. That vet just wouldn't get back to me and Jackpot gave me a call and went over the results with me after requesting an appointment. Our elderly cat had an episode on a Friday night and we needed help to save her from suffering any longer. Saturday at 8 a.m. we called several vets and each was not accepting new patients. We were referred to Jackpot and called. The gentleman who answered the phone truly cared about our situation and worked to get us seen as soon as possible. Each of the five employees as well as the student treated us and our very much loved cat not only as though they owned the clinic but as though they had been our close friends for years! It meant the world to both of us as well as easing the suffering of our pet. Rest assured we would be grateful to consider your clinic our new vet clinic moving forward. My family and I went to Tucson Small animal for close to 30 years until Dr. Neilson retired (later i bumped into him at another clinic - he just couldn't stop helping! Love that man!). This clinic is every bit as fantastic, if not more so, than that clinic under his guidance. Saying thank you seems meaningless after the care, concern and thoughtfulness the employees showed us and although heartfelt it is all I can say. I am not sure if all vet clinics are like this since we only used one clinic with all our animals. My boxer was seen for a new patient appointment. I was taken back by the 65$ deposit, but I paid it anyway. The person on the phone insisted on certain testing that I never asked for, and added it on the bill. When we came for the appointment I had to tell them over and over that I didn't need that and would do it at a later time. It seems that they are very pushy and just want the money. I was extremely appreciative that they moved the deposit to my new appointment due to a death in the family. The vet we saw was super sweet, and have no complaints about her! The problem I have is the people who answer the phone. Every time I call it's someone new. I called today to see if I could get guidance on my dog since he was having diarrhea, for about a 24hr period. I was told that they couldn't give me medical advice over the phone, and insisted on me coming in. I explained that I didn't want to stress him out if he had no other symptoms and was eating and drinking normally. I asked if I could talk to someone who could advise me if they were not able to. They told me that I could leave a message but they wouldn't get back to me until the next day, or the following. I was taken back because at my other vets I could call and they would assist me right away. I decided to try this vet because it came highly recommended and my vets was scheduling weeks out for new patients. I have decided after these events and the bad feeling I have in my gut to wait the few weeks and go back to my old vets, where I feel comfortable and know they have my babies best interest at heart, and not their pocket book! read more

This is a wonderful, kind, and compassionate vet. We had to take our little dig in to be put to rest. The kindness exuded from the staff was so comforting in our time of sadness. They let us hold him until he took his last breath and then let us take the time we needed to say our goodbyes. We had our little guy cremated and imprints of his paw made. They did an amazing job and our little guy was returned to us with a sympathy card from the staff. They could tell we loved him and we're heart broken over the choice we had to make. They supported us through our struggle and showed us the kindness we desperately needed at that moment. They treated us so well that we took our other dog to them when she was have ear problems. They fixed her right up and have extremely reasonable pricing. My friend now takes her dogs here too. read more

Furious. I really tried to stick with Jackpot after some good experiences with my older dog, despite some frustrations with changes in management as far the procedure for booking appointments, and often having trouble getting an appointment when something was urgent. But this last instance was really my final straw. I took my two young dogs in for regular check ups and bloodwork, but also made note of the fact that they had both puked the prior day and one was refusing to eat that morning, and the other had refused the night before (but seemed better before the appointment). While I acknowledged that, of course, puppies sometimes have stomach issues, I did make a point of giving this information because I wanted to be sure there was nothing else going on. I was told that the temperature for one pup was slightly elevated due to stress which again I know happens. I actually asked a few times, however, to make sure that the doctor was convinced that the elevation in temperature was not excessive or cause to do anything/be proactive based on the throwing up, he kept saying it was totally fine. I called back the next morning to find out the exact temperature because that same dog threw up again and refused to drink. I was told her temp was 104.6. This was immediately alarming to me. I know dogs can go up to 102.5, even without anything wrong, but I've always understood that 104 and up is something of note. Before reacting, however, I called another vet and other dog owners to ask their opinion, and I was informed by all that the temperature was indeed high, and the vet indicated that it was not one they would've assumed was due to stress. Furthermore the vet said that with the information I had given (or even without) the temperature would've prompted them to ask more questions and at least offer if not insist on some fluids and/or anti-nausea medication to go home with in case the symptoms continued. Instead, I had to run around to find a different place to take my dogs for another check up, and, despite repeated phone calls for records, and for a callback - Jackpot only called the next day when the blood results were in (no one called me back to see if I wanted another appointment in light of the additional symptoms). There was no apology or concern , just a reiteration that dogs sometimes have elevated temperatures with stress. I'm extremely disappointed and write this to ensure that other dog owners are aware, and be extremely proactive, when using Jackpot to find out all the information because I do not agree with their assessment or their management of what happened. Of course you have to always be extremely proactive about obtaining exact information before leaving the clinic- but this more than I think should be necessary. Add insult to injury, hours after saying I should be removed from the active client list, I got a call from receptionist asking how my experience was and how my dogs were doing as if there's no internal communication.. read more
