I unfortunately left this visit feeling disappointed. I brought my cat in because he was ill. They kept him for a "full exam", did bloodwork & gave him fluids & was sent home. The day after we arrived home, we discovered an anal gland abscess. I took him to a different vet who confirmed that this was the root cause of his issues. Because of that, the bloodwork & fluids wouldn't have needed to be given if they had spotted the abscess in the first place. That also leads me to believe that a "full" exam wasn't really done. They ultimately diagnosed him with "overexertion by our stairs". I did follow up with the clinic afterward. They were responsive and offered a partial refund, which I appreciate, although it didn't fully reflect the cost of the visit or the impact of the missed issue. The staff was kind and professional, but this experience affected my confidence in the thoroughness of the exam. How could he have seen this?? Any one else in the medical field should be able to see this as incorrect-- he knew of her injury and did not disclose it to me- rather covered it up. My dog Leia went to 1st Pet Vet for evaluation of abdominal distention/ acute weight gain and was seen by Dr. Jatin Jadhwani in the ER. During that visit, something happened that left her injured. She walked in normally but left unable to use her back legs. Leia required emergency spinal surgery for a herniated disk. Went back 1 day later thinking pain/sedation meds wore off and she still could not walk. Dr NAGY now saw her and got 'updated' by Jatin Jadhwani- she did not do vitals on Leia- did not touch (palpate), do a neuro exam or any exam for that matter- but the charged me and she fraudulently entered a full exam on Leia's medical records. I have filed a complaint on her and Jatin Jadhwani to the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board. Instead of transparency or compassion, I felt the situation was minimized and brushed aside. It was clear that the focus was on protecting their staff rather than acknowledging what happened and supporting a loyal client in crisis. After learning more, I discovered that Dr. Jadhwani has a history of medical incompetence documented by the Arizona Veterinary Medical Examining Board, which includes another tragic incident at the same facility in 2023. Every staff member was amazing. My pup passed away. They were extremely compassionate and patient with us while we made some difficult choices and grieved for our girl. l adopted my folks West Highland White Terrier when they became too old to care for her. Unfortunately after a few months it became clear that Krista was having some real struggles and after taking her in to 1st Pet they let me know that she had heart issues. The only option at that point was to give her a doggie pacemaker, but at her age it would only buy her a few months maybe. It was a terribly traumatic decision to make, but in the end we decided that we had to let her go rather than keeping her around for our sake. She didn't have a decent quality of life, and I just couldn't let her continue to suffer. The team at 1st Pet were very sympathetic, and Krista was sent off in a loving environment, with people who cared about her, and not surrounded by sterile metal. It is always horrible to lose a pet, but the staff here were considerate, and the environment was not traumatizing to our Krista. This is all we could ask for in the end. read more

Our kitten Kipperlilly suddenly had a bloated belly. We called to make an appt & were told to bring her into the er immediately. Long story short she had a stomach abscess & needed emergency surgery. She spent 5 days in the hospital. Everyday we got phone calls updates. The bill was high but the care was worth it. They do have several options for payment help if needed. I've been to both the primary care side and ER side, so this review will be for both facilities. Primary Care 4.5/5 stars ER 2/5 stars The primary care team is fantastic! They're so receptive to my pet's and my needs and are extremely patient with us. I had a time where my primary care vet saw that we were in the ER, so she personally went over after her shift to help take care of my pet who was struggling. She listened to what I had to say and suggest and was able to finally diagnose and take care of my pet who the ER vets weren't able to help. She truly went above and beyond and I'm so grateful. My only complaint about the primary care side is that it is on the more expensive side, but you're always given transparency and agency as a client to decide what procedures you would like to have done and what you would like to pay. Because of how well they take care of my pet, I'm okay with the costs because I do trust them. Unfortunately, the ER side is run by a very different team (and perhaps management style?). The front office staff are so nice, but they're trained to advise that you go into the ER for everything. Some of the ER vets I've met seem very capable, but others do not seem to be as receptive to hearing me out when I'm trying to explain what is going on. Although my pet is on file through the primary care side, it seems like most do not look at his file and notes. I have never seen the same tech or vet twice at this ER despite how often I had to go in. The ER also managed to lose a stool sample for testing for my pet who started having stomach and bowel issues. I waited a week for results, didn't receive anything, called for an update, and was told it was lost. I was given a refund, but I had to go in again with another stool sample because my pet was still having issues. If you are already a patient on the primary care side, I would highly recommend trying to book through them or ask for a consultation over the phone. If your pet isn't having a life threatening emergency, it's also recommended to book an urgent care appointment instead of going through the ER. It's cheaper and will get you seen. Sometimes due to triage, you may have to wait for hours in the ER. read more

I'm writing this review regarding the recent loss of my dog, Yoshi. Before I begin, I want to emphasize that Dr. Stanton has been an outstanding veterinarian and has cared for my wife's family's dogs for over 20 years. She was not involved in this incident. Yoshi was also an older dog at 16.5 years, so we recognize that age was a factor. The issue arose when we brought Yoshi in for treatment of an anal abscess. He walked into the clinic on his own, and several staff members even commented on how well he was doing for his age. At that time, he had no issues with his back legs or hips. After the abscess was drained, we took him home, but shortly after, he began screaming in severe pain -- not just a yelp, but intense, ongoing cries. He was unable to support his hind legs, collapsing whenever he tried to stand or go outside. We immediately called the clinic and were told to bring him back. When my wife did, the staff reviewed his chart and stated that his condition wasn't their responsibility since he had previous issues. They offered additional x-rays -- at an added cost -- but ultimately just prescribed pain medication, which we were still charged for. That night, Yoshi continued to cry out in pain and could not stand, eat, or drink without collapsing. By the next day, despite further calls to the clinic, we were told it might be due to anesthesia or medication. His suffering worsened, and ultimately, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. What has been most upsetting beyond losing Yoshi has been the lack of accountability and communication from the clinic afterward. Despite multiple calls requesting to speak with a manager or owner, no one reached out. When we finally followed up, we were told the staff was "aligning communication" before speaking with us -- which felt less like compassion and more like avoiding responsibility. Also, David the director hung up on me due to him not wanting to speak with me regarding this issue. In our experience, the focus seemed more on deflecting blame and charging for additional services than on helping our dog or supporting us through his decline. For this reason, while we continue to deeply respect Dr. Stanton, I cannot recommend this clinic for emergency care and would urge others to proceed with caution. read more

The staff and doctors at this location acted with such compassion and empathy for something that is such a hard thing to do. They allowed us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. Rushed my Golden Retriever into 1st Pet on 11-09-25 shaking and crying in pain. Spent 8 hours and $1200+ for an "abnormal behavior" diagnosis. Blood work, xrays (they didn't have time to do ultrasound) and didn't have time to give him a pain med for 6 hours. Vet said I could give him Benadryl, but it wouldn't help him. Sent him home with Gabapentin, which she also said probably wouldn't help him. Follow up instructions received for vomiting and diarrhea (symptoms he did not have). Office manager called the following Wednesday, and I asked for a follow up call (never happened). He received care from his regular vet the following day and is doing better. read more

I took my dog here two weeks ago for an emergency appointment at 7pm due to my dog slightly limping and crying when his nail was touched. I told them that I thought his nail was broken. After 4 hours of waiting and $500 later, they sent me home with paid medication and a cone. They told me that his nail was not broken and I should get an X-ray done to confirm if the bone was broken, but if it was, there was nothing I could do about it except let it heal. Now 2 weeks later, my dog's nail completely ripped off and twisted after no strenuous activities. My concern is that I brought my dog in for a broken nail, was told that it was not broken and could be a larger issue, and then 2 weeks later, his nail is fully broken and bleeding. We called with these concerns asking if we could come in to get another appointment where they could trim the nail now, to which they told me I would have to pay for another emergency fee ($250) even though they did not resolve the issue I originally came in with. I took my dog to a different vet who promptly looked at his nail and trimmed it. read more

I have been to this location 3-4 times for my dog's upset stomach. After a lot of trial and error, Dr. Mink (sp?) was able to figure out what the issue was. She even followed my dog around with a cup to get a stool sample. She was prescribed some prescription food and probiotics and it did the trick! Fast forward to today. I am out of down while my elderly parents dog sit. Unfortunately, my dog is having stomach issues again. I called the1st Pet office on Warner to leave a message for the vet to ask if they should be feeding her prescribed food or chicken and rice. The woman on the phone insisted again and again my parents needed to bring her in to get any guidance. I informed her my parents are not in a position to do that and she repeated that they needed to come in. I am disappointed because I wanted to leave a message for the vet. I have spent well over $1000 at this location and buy my dogs food every month from them for $60 a bag. It would have been nice to be treated with more respect and to have received the guidance I was looking for. I do not suggest 1st Pet unless it's an emergency and other pet hospitals are out of the question. read more

I let the lady at the front know what was discussed, she is extremely rude to me and said Dr left and the other vet is in a room e someone else. Try the liquid form call us tomorrow if it doesn't work! I was In shock how rude she was & how she's treating me making this rxgemg difficult after spending close to $700 which didn't even include any X-rays only included them wrapping up and cleaning his toe and telling me to see a surgeon soon. Wow'. So I call the next day speak to the First Lady about what happened. She told me she would get the vet to send in a script to Walgreens right away. I waited two hours. Nothing from Walgreens or the vet. I call back and speak to another girl who says the same thing f after I told her the story now for the third time! This girl tells me that a vet will look it over right now and get it sent into the Walgreens for me! Again, another hour goes by nothing! I call the vet back again and this time, I speak to another woman who has me explain everything for the 4th freaking time and this woman is extremely rude telling me the doctor is busy and I said "I called three hours ago and was told by the two other women that a vet would look and get the script sent into asap and now you're telling me the doctors are busy?" And she says "look, liquid is easier and better for smaller dogs anyways so u should stick with the liquid form!" Wow. You don't think I that? I would if my damn dog would allow me to put it in his mouth without biting me plus he is in pain and just want him comfortable. Jesus help a dog out who's in paid and who's owner paid almost $700 for wrapping cleaning his toe and was given two scripts in liquid form when they should have been tablets! $700 for that ? And I get treated like this ? Hell NO' will NEVER GO TK THIS VET ER AGAIN AND EITHER SHOULD u! Go somewhere else with better service and prices. I am so grateful for the team here. The entire staff- from front desk, to techs, the doctor- were incredibly kind, patient, informative and genuinely caring. I came on a weekend for an emergency visit, so there was a lot of waiting and the cost was high (although honestly more reasonable than i expected). But even through the waiting, if i was worried about anything at all, I was able to find someone to help me without judgment, even when i was panicking over something that turned out to be normal. Due to precautions they are currently not allowing people in so when you arrive you find a numbered parking and call the number on that sign. You will then proceed to tell them the reason for the visit and the parking space # you are in. They will come to your vehicle to take your pet, collect payments, and bring your pet back out once they are ready to go home. They were great at keeping us in the loop regarding the whole process even though we never went inside the building. All the staff we interacted with was fantastic even though we even had two shifts. I felt comfortable with how they took care of my pup. Wish they could be slightly more affordable but my dog's life has no price. read more

It's difficult to fairly review an emergency vet practice. You HAVE to take your animal in and you KNOW you're gonna get taken advantage of financially, especially if you don't have vet insurance (LMAO - sort of an oxymoron these days). The intentions are good but sometimes these vets seem like they're still new or they simply think all pet owners are have minimal years/weeks/days experience owning animals. Every test is recommended sometimes to the point of just plain unnecessary cuz they don't get a clear answer from initial test. Keep in mind, each test cost more money. And ya wanna talk wait time?! You're put into a room to wait. They don't keep you abreast of what's going on. They don't tell you how long a test takes or how long it will be until they'll be back with results, or how long you'll have to wait until someone will be in to run thr tests or decipher the results. Ridiculous, outrageous, unnecessary, unexplained wait times. It feels like you're paying for every minute your sitting around waiting. I got so frustrated I was about ready to walk out. Staff needs to make a point of informing pet owners how long until they'll return to exam room, how long it's going to take to run the test, how long they're going to be kept waiting because a doctor (whatever) isn't in or available to run test and/or read the results. All these "rules" about who can give the info to the client. Facility was not busy at time of our visit. There were no other clients in the lobby. Tech that did triage was fairly prompt. Answered most of our questions to the best of his ability. Was way off on the sanitizing wipes. Don't use those on your animal. Face palm/SMH. All staff was polite. Doctor was open and receptive to feedback. She listened to my questions and had a good bedside manner. I don't feel her recommendations were advisable and felt she may have received her training or possibly practiced in another state because of one of the recommendations she made. I did give in to an additional test but this seemed to occur before I heard the main test that had been done came back negative. I was also sorta shut down on my idea of taking the treatment home to administer myself. They can't charge your for these services if you take it home and do it yourself. *SMH&ER* We saw a total of five people on this particular evening. Why five? This doesn't include the receptionist/lady at front desk. The facility looks really nice and appears to be very clean. So 3 . I was feeling generous. read more

BEWARE - DONT EVER GO TO 1ST PET VETERINARY CENTER IN CHANDLER AZ Our dog Carlos has been very sick, diagnosed and treated for Valley Fever, hepatitis and a lot of "gunk" in his gallbladder. He has been very sick for almost 2 months requiring us to go to the ER, a specialist hospital and ultimately, we were advised to follow up with an internist vet. We chose to see Dr Maeckelberg, an internist at 1st Pet Veterinary Center in Chandler AZ. We saw Dr Maeckelberg one time and then 2 weeks later we had our second visit with her. The internist was treating our dog with medication for the Valley Fever, the liver issues and his gallbladder issues. Blood and x-rays were again taken at this visit. The doctor addressed the Valley Fever and liver issues but did not mention the gallbladder, so we asked about the gallbladder, and she said she couldn't see the gallbladder. Nothing more was said. Our dog continued to be very sick and would not eat. Twelve days after our second visit with the internist we again had to take our dog to the ER where our internist worked. There they discovered that his gallbladder was so enlarged it needed to be taken out. Again, we were very upset and scared, especially since Dr Maeckelberg ignored our dog's gallbladder at his last visit. However, we wanted to do what was best for our dog, so we agreed to have his gallbladder taken out. The next day, 13 days after our visit with the internist, Carlos' gallbladder was removed and we were at the hospital every day, 3 days, to be with him. The vet-tech we'd seen on prior visits stopped by once to check on Carlos and even though his Internist saw us in the parking lot and waved hi, she never came by to say hi or check on Carlos during the three nights he was in the hospital. Fortunately, the surgery went well and after post-operative recovery and lots of money Carlos was discharged home. Unfortunately, he was not given enough anti-inflammatory medication, Rimadyl, requiring us to have to call and ask for more. We were doing everything that we were advised to do and finally after a few days of taking the anti-inflammatory, Rimadyl, our dog started responding positively. Sunday was our last dose of Rimadyl as they only gave us 3 pills or enough for 6 days, so on Monday we called the Internist requesting more Rimadyl and this is what followed: At 10:30 on a Monday morning we called the Internist, explained to the receptionist that finally we found a combination of medication that worked for our dog and requested an emergency refill of Rimadyl. We were told that a message would be given to our doctor. At 12:30 another call was made as we still hadn't heard back from the vet. We were told the tech would be calling the prescription in. At 3:30 We made another call made and were told a tech would call us back At 4:15 no one called us and we were told - "sorry but that our doctor wasn't working today and that no one who hadn't seen our dog would write a script for a refill of the anti-inflammatory medication Rimadyl (This is a refill for a medication that we were only given a very small amount of - 3 pills,) That the ER doctor wouldn't do this without seeing our dog" We were informed that NO doctor would be able to read his chart and write us a prescription. We were told that if our dog needed Rimadyl, he would need to be seen in the ER for this! At 4:30 I called our regular vet, explained the need for the immediate medication and by 6:00 PM I picked up the needed medication- ANTI-INFLAMITORY -Rimadyl. We delt with our dog's illness for 2 months, We spent a huge amount of money, We watched our dog suffer and then, when we were desperate and needed help- We were lied to - the doctor wasn't working when they told us they were getting messages to her - and absolutely worse of all there was NO COMPASSION for our dog and for us! The medication that FINALLY seemed to help him, the medication that we were requesting is an ANTI-INFLMAITORY medication, a medication that is not a controlled drug or opioid but a prescription medication only for animals and is an ANTI-INFLAMITORY medication. We have changed our internist to another internist who will hopefully be more compassionate and responsive. read more

My dog is my BABY and he woke up pooping out blood so I rushed him to this hospital he has all his shots and I told the vet this. The front office people gave me attitude and then was nicer when I started balling my eyes out. They wouldn't see him unless he took a parvo test like really?? It's all for money honestly to let you know a parvo test is 123$ here. RIDICULOUS. When I brought her in I pad $211 to have her cremated and was going to pay the rest when I picked her up which was another $263 for her ashes and her paw print. 2 days later I called and asked when they would have her back and they told me that she was still sitting there because we still owed $263. I was very upset when I hear this and told them just to send her to get cremated and I let them know how expensive they are and they proceeded to tell me that I could come pick my lifeless dog up and take her elsewhere, so I did just that. As I got on here I see that they have 3.2 stars had I of seen that then I wouldn't have taken my dog there. I am warning anyone that needs an emergency vet, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! They have no compassion and are just money grabbing. They can care less about animals or the families that are going through a tough time with their pets. I ended up taking her to arise in queen creek which is also an emergency vet and they were not compassionate but they were $200 cheaper and came outside to help us bring her in. I had a scare with my beagle mix late into the night, the late night staff were so helpful, accommodating friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me carry my pup in and out and ended up just going a pain management route and decided an actual vet visit wasn't necessary. They didn't charge me a thing, and when I said thank you so much I'm so sorry about the waste of time, the young gal replied "it's no problem at all call us anytime for triage we're happy to help" You just don't get customer service like that anymore, especially at 12:30AM! What makes this review two star is all about when a pet is ill and needs help. First of all the office is very fancy with fish tanks in the wall and so on. It reminds me of a plastic surgery office. If this is your style that's cool, but this type of luxury comes with a cost that is passed to the patient. Our second visit was with a sick dog who was crying in pain. They say they are 24/7 but we were charged an additional fee for an internist to come in and do an ultrasound. Another $150 just for him to come in. That hurt. They also required 75% payment before doing anything. It was all about the money. The total bill was $1700 and the only thing that helped our dog was the morphine they gave. We ultimately went to another emergency vet in Gilbert. The price was less and we got an answer about our dog's condition. The office there was clean but not over the top. The bottom line is when you have to say goodbye any emergency vet will be compassionate. when help and a diagnosis is needed, go somewhere else. read more

I took my 6 month old puppy to First Pet after she gnawed on some Box Wood. My Vet's office was closing and they recommended I take my dog to an emergency vet. First Pet was the closest. When we arrived, I was told First Vet's veterinarians are not toxicologists and instructed by the front desk to call the number of the ASPCA Pet Poison Control Center and get the ASPCA advice on what to do. I did that and was told that I had little to worry about and that they would email their advice to First Pet. While on hold, waiting for ASPCA advice, 2 vets and 2 techs came in, weighed the dog, listened to her heart and lungs and took her temperature. No apparent anomalies were found ( except minor temperature elevation, not unusual for a teething puppy). Even though I made the call to the Poison Control Center (and paid their reasonable $95 fee), First Pet charged me $250 to spend less than 5 minutes taking my dog's vitals and having a tech tell me to follow the advice from the ASPCA. I guess I rented the exam room for 3 minutes of vet attention at a rate of $250 an hour The good news is that the dog has no ill affects even though First Pet's charges were extreme. Being new to the area we contacted 1st Pet around Midnight. The staff quickly responded upon our arrival. Our princess Lexi was in respiratory distress/heart failure. The diagnosis and outcome was explained completely. Our hearts were broken but we knew it was her time. The staff treated us with dignity and respect. We didn't want her to suffer. Our options where explained along with the prices. We were allowed into the facility to hold our furbaby one last time before she passed away. Covid restrictions did apply. Thank you read more

Though our time there was so long, I 100% recommend this place! They were so compassionate and so loving to both of us. I thought I was dealing with euthanasia but turned out she had an infection that is curable. Even if my baby girl is actually looking at end of life treatment based on her age, the staff here was so amazing and so very helpful with low income options if i need future care to keep my girl happy and healthy until her time comes. This place really made me feel like my fur baby's health was most important, even if it wasn't with them in the future. They were amazing and even had college students training, which I loved! It may have made our visit longer but I love that they are training new vets to be loving and trained for our babies! read more

Had to take my baby girl in to the emergency. The staff was so friendly and prompt. I highly recommend this facility for our fur babies. This was our first visit and yes we did wait just like other emergency vet hospitals. So bring a sweater and some water. It got cold in there. I'm not complaining. Just a heads up. read more

Took our dog to this vet as her cancer had progressed and her quality of life was gone. Vet told my daughter the dog was fine and she wouldn't put her down because she was an inconvenience. My animals have never been an inconvenience and I believe in a dogs dignity. Her tumor had ulcerated and she had become lethargic. This original decision was very hard for our family. This vet was Wrong! Next day the dog was pooping and vomiting blood. Our vet was shocked as we were. We were told he liver has quit working. Our vet euthanized her immediately. I had had 3 other dogs over 16 years old euthanized here but NEVER AGAIN. ZERO RATING. shellfish people here. Yes I am Pissed! read more
