Onyx 10 years old - Dane mix
    Michelle L.

Thank you V.E.G. You were all so compassionate, kind, professional and acted with a sense of urgency when we brought in our 10 year old Great Dane mix for a "compassion visit." At a time when we were initially uncertain about our decision to move forward with euthanasia, you assured we had made the only choice. There was no time wasted on gaining our Onyx's weight when we came in the door or questioning the state of Onyx's health. Upon arrival, we were met in the foyer by staff that knew we were on our way in to be seen for the compassion visit. There was no wasted time with questioning the health of our beloved dog as it was apparent he was in distress. We cannot thank you enough for helping Onyx transition peacefully in a calm setting. Onyx is now in heaven and we will see him again

You are able to stay with your pets through every step of the way, they offer financing and are very kind when you are having the worst day of your life. Thank you for taking care of my baby.

    Nina fresh Post Op

My husband and his good buddy and fishing pal Nina were at the park the other day and a scary incident happened. Nina is a 2 year old Chihuahua with an incredibly sweet and loving disposition. Husband turned away for just a moment to speak with the game warden and heard his fishing pole move. He glanced around and Ms Nina had swallowed the treble hook that was surrounded by catfish powerbait. He clipped the line and called me in a frantic state. I looked up Emergency Pet Hospitals. Came upon VEG and decided to go there because it was close. By the time husband reached the clinic, he was hysterically weeping. He felt so guilty even though it wasn't his fault. She's a dog and catfish powerbait probably smells delicious to a dog. At the moment of arrival to the clinic, the staff displayed an amazing level attention and care. Not only for Nina, but for her Daddy too. It's so special there because they allow you to remain with your pet at all times. They x-rayed her and the hook was located in her esophagus. We had 2 choices...surgery or the Great Beyond. The veterinarian was Victoria, she is an angel incarnate. We were so stressed out with the decisions that need to be made. She gave us space, loving encouragement and guided us to the conclusion to at least try and save her with surgery. With steady hands, Victoria pushed the hook into her stomach, being careful not to tear any tissue on the way. She exposed her stomach, made an incision, and got the hook out without further incident. Victoria carefully stitched her up and off to the recovery area. Nina was highly medicated and high AF, so she had no clue what was going on. Britney made up a little area for me so that I could spend the night with Nina next to me. The love never wavered at any point while we were in the clinic for over 12 hours. Not just for us, but for EVERYONE that walked through the door. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that needs a loving place to take their furry friends.

    Our Baby Boy. RIP

R-I-P To Our Awesome D-O-G As V-E-G Vegges On the J-O-B! Our Pup NEEDLESSLY Suffered In Front of Our Eyes Last Evening in the Emergency Room Before He Took His Gasps of Air and went to Doggie Heaven. He was almost 17-years-old and suffered from congestive heart failure. I had taken him into the same VEG Camelback location the week prior knowing his health was rapidly declining and that euthanasia was a high and likely probability. Fortunately, the veterinarians were able to help our boy breathe more easily and efficiently, despite the fact that he had to be treated for significant water retention in his lungs due to his condition. I was able to bring him home to my wife, who had to work, with the understanding that he probably only had three-to-six months to live. We were fine with that including footing the very large bill. In the end, we felt like we bought more time with our elderly pup and the hefty price was worth it. My wife and I still feel this way despite VEG's great failure last night that now leaves us devastated. Unfortunately, our dog's ability to overcome the water accumulation in his lungs was not sustainable. We drove back to VEG fulling knowing that our precious pup should probably be euthanized. We waited in the room with our boy for the vet for quite a long while. During that time, his condition got worse to the point that he appeared to have died in my wife's arms. I raced out to the room and yelled that my dog just died. It was only then that the veterinarian and another staff member rushed into the room. My wife decided my baby boy had suffered long enough and it was time for us to say goodbye. We are not upset with the final outcome as we had already come to terms with the decision. But the needless suffering our dog had to endure leading up to his death while we patiently waited for the vet was beyond ridiculous. We were told that the veterinarian had another pet in a critical state she had been attending to. This was the reason that she was not able to get to our pup sooner. We can certainly understand and appreciate the difficulties of these circumstances. At the same time, the emergency room was well aware of our dog's condition, ESPECIALLY the vet who had initially treated him the week prior. We are NOT singling out that veterinarian or the vet who eventually euthanized our pup. There is enough blame to be spread around for the entire facility. To be placed in the room and have ABSOLUTELY NO ONE check on our dog's condition is unacceptable and a dismal failure. To be fair and objective, we felt this vet emergency room was top notch during our initial visit. We told the front desk our dog collapsed and the staff rushed us in with a sense of urgency and without hesitation. In fact, our impression was that this is way better service than one experiences at hospitals for humans. Unfortunately, that opinion dramatically changed for the worse last evening. It's really difficult to express our frustrations without lashing out in anger as I did last night when VEG failed us. But hopefully pet owners who read this post can absorb this information objectively to determine whether they should bring their pet here or somewhere else. Photos of our Baby Boy at VEG are posted here from last week. He is greatly missed. Btw, lame form letter type response from VEG below. It's a response without really responding to the specific criticisms. It screams, "say something generic and don't say too much so we don't get sued!" These are empty words. You were better off not responding to this post. This is sooooooo weak!!

As a vet tech with over 15 years in the field, including a short stint in emergency medicine; I've seen a lot, and I can honestly say I've never had an emergency vet visit go as smoothly and compassionately as this one. From the very first phone call, Shannon was so helpful and kind. Just the call set the tone for the whole visit and I didn't doubt heading down to VEG. Once we arrived, the immediate care and communication were outstanding. One of the things that sets VEG apart is that you get to stay with your pet the entire time. That level of transparency and comfort is just unheard of in emergency settings. As a veterinary professional, I'd always been curious how VEG handled this kind of care, and they've truly struck a thoughtful balance between transparency and giving you the privacy and support you need in those tough moments with a sick pet. Sally, our tech, was fantastic; very kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She explained everything thoroughly and made sure we felt supported every step of the way. Dr. Beckwith was fantastic as well--professional, clear, and compassionate. From start to finish, the experience was genuinely exceptional. Did we have to wait a bit because more urgent cases came in? Yes. Did we have to spend some money because it's emergency medicine? Of course. But those things are expected and even with the stress of the situation, VEG made the whole experience far more positive and supportive than any emergency visit I've had before. They really know how to care for both pets and people. Hopefully we won't have to make another emergency visit anytime soon, but if we do, we won't even hesitate about where to go. VEG truly raised the bar. Thank you, VEG Phoenix team!

We took our pup here on Sunday out of fear he may have parvo (he doesn't). When they put us in a room they made me hold him in my lap and not let him down. While I know this may be a precaution and he only ways 27 pounds it was a bit much and my legs fell asleep. Then I struggled to stand and walk him to the exam table when the tech finally came back. The other clinic asked us to carry him to the room and had us wear booties. Given the severity of the disease I understood. Additionally, the vet tech really freaked me out and said that he was not protected for Parvo by the Tractor supply vaccines. The way she presented it created fear. However, the veterinarian was more calming in her explanation. It was very pricey but given it was Sunday, I couldn't complain.

As a lot of you said you hope to never have you and your pet here. I recently spent 16 hours there when my dog had seizures, he unfortunately was not responding to medication and I made the choice to euthanize him. It was his time and he lived a long and wonderful life. During the 16 hours I was there, each person was extremely kind to me and my dog. Each choice I had to make was never forced and was given a gracious amount of time to decide. As I sat there, I watched them care for several animals in need and each of these animals were in good hands. I appreciate everything they did for us and the time I was allowed to mourn and be alone with my dog one last time.

I just want to say thank you for all the kind and helpful words from the employees at this location. They did a fast and amazing job caring for our pet Keri in her final moments. They give us her options and never rushed us. I would recommend this place for care for you and your pet Thanks again!

Ask the Community - VEG ER for Pets

I would like to bring my cat in for a spay or neuter. So I would like to ask if I need to make an appointment and if I do, how do I make an appointment?

This is basically an emergency department for your pet. Not a spay/neuter clinic lol.

Is this an affordable vet? I have to bring my boy in for an X-ray but I can't afford to go into dept and he has what looks like a fatty lump on his belly .. I've been reaching out to rescues if I can possibly a price estimate? Or id have to surrender

they do have financing options. I recently took my pup there, and it was a pretty hefty bill, but I was able to get it taken care of with a few options that they gave me. Definitely recommend.

We had a virtual urgent care call and they were concerned enough that we brought him into The Scottsdale Veterinary Clinic to check in on him. After an ultrasound, they found that he had a mass on his spleen and was internally bleeding, and had to go into immediate overnight emergency surgery. The surgery was successful, and after a 36 hour hospital stay, Barkley is back home and on the mend. While this was such a scary experience and few days, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about The Scottsdale Veterinary Clinic and their team. They are open 24/7/365, and provided around the clock care. Because of the length of his stay, we worked with and spoke to multiple of their veterinarians and assistants (thank you to Dr. Ferguson, Dr. Fleming, Dr. Goldberg, and Dr. Blackmon), and everyone was so kind, attentive, and caring through every step of the process, gave us calls throughout the night with updates and over the past few days to check in on Barkley's progress, and were so compassionate in all of the care they provided. I was thrilled to move both of my rescue shepherds to ARK as they were at two different vets from two different rescues. I have an 11 year old and a 4 year old. The initial visits were normal shots and I was handed multiple quotes for treatments - one being dental for my elder Shepherd. It was in the $1300-1700 range depending on how many teeth they would need to pull under anesthesia. I was skeptical and not convinced it was something we needed to put him through at his age or stage. Then a promotion popped up in my inbox during the month of August - "$250 for $50 gift cards towards dental work" & "you can buy multiple" and the fine print read "gift cards may be used on one dog." So I bought a multiple of 6 gift cards for my 1 dog that needed dental. WOW what a deal! Or so I thought... I called to make sure I was reading the deal correctly before purchasing, they assured me. I asked again when I booked the appointment, they assured me. I spoke of my excitement for the deal when we went in for the preparation bloodwork, they assured me. The morning of I spoke with the vet tech about how I was going to pay with multiple gift cards, they assured me. It wasn't until I arrived at pickup 7 hours later that the owner appeared from her office in a rush to let me know that I could only use ONE of the SIX gift cards I had purchased to pay. When I asked them to show me the fine print of what I purchased they scrambled to find me an old email promotion. I was never provided with the fine print, I was never provided with the EXACT purchase portal I used... Just a little laugh from the staff, an accusation that "I must have read it wrong", and a $1000 bill I wasn't expecting - BEWARE!!! Overall, my dog is fine and recovering. He will be ok. I'd do anything for him so this abrupt inconvenience too shall pass. Truthfully I wasn't pleased that I've never seen the same veterinarian or tech at ARK - a sign of big business. They don't know my dogs by name, they apparently know them by number$$$. Less than 16 hours later I switched them over to Arcadia Animal Clinic and I am already feeling much more at peace with their future care! A local clinic with local pricing and the same three vets. All this to say - Dear Owner, Before you reply to this post - I know you video record every appointment in the rooms, perhaps the phone calls too. I recommend that you review my appointment footage and the audio recordings. I recommend that you find the exact promotion emails (there were multiple), click through, and review the checkout link lingo. Blaming it on the fact that you don't have access to the promotional email portal is wildly unprofessional. You may keep my surprise $1000, but my recommendation (or lack there of now) is priceless.
