I dropped off my 5 month old puppy at 1pm they just called me and are sending me home with a dog with a broken arm!!! They wanted 1200!!!! After keeping her in that cage for over 8 hrs!!! It's 9pm they charge 250 just to be seen!!! Horrible place!! Heartless people.. update I found a wonderful place that I will be leaving a review on just around the corner from them who took my dog in for 150 did the two x-rays for 300 and the cast for two and also help me out on a payment program. Thank God, they're still good people out here.. some people just work at places to work there to get paid others worked there because they actually care.... If the voice is high-pitched, it's fake. This place basically abandoned my dog for several hours and had me pay over $400 just to bring her home with a broken arm not even an x-ray done. Over the last few months we have given 1st Pet a second chance and have received a better quality of service to our pet Unfortunately, it was to say goodbye to our 11 year old Pug, Luke, unexpectedly which was a horrible experience. The staff at 1st Pet, all of them, were incredibly humble and comforting, treating Luke as a family member, gently and lovingly. They made a heartbreaking morning as easy as they could. We have taken our new puppy to 1st Pet on an emergency visit and they were in love with him. Of course, he is an adorable rescue pug puppy and he had everyone's heart. He received fantastic treatment over the course of about 2 months. Our reason for a 4 star is the cost. They are more expensive than other vets hospitals and the only vet we have ever been charged for full visit fee when coming in for a follow up appointment. The later I think they should do away with. Otherwise, the staff is great. Check out is easy. Our pup is happy! read more

My dog was bit by a Rottweiler in his groin area. There was a very deep hole that tore through tissue making it a high risk wound. Took him here for an emergency visit. 2 visits and 3 weeks later my boy is back to new running around like nothing happened! I swear he has even more energy than before. The doctors and staff here are awesome. The prices were very fair for the operations he needed (except for the x ray, but those are expensive everywhere unfortunately ) and they offer a 6 month 0 interest payment plan which is nice. Also, he is as anxious as a dog can get when at the vet. They were all very understanding and patient with him. Thank you to everyone here for giving me peace of mind during a scary time and helping Jax! Side note: Im surprised to see a lot of reviews talking about being pushed expensive treatment options and a lack of care from the staff. I didn't get that feeling at all. They were open and honest about what was necessary and what wasn't. I didn't get the feeling they were looking at my dog with dollar signs in their eyes. I've been a vet tech for over 10 years and I completely agree with the other people saying their costs are outrageous! Was quoted $300 for routine lab work and almost $2,000 for a dental with very mild tartar. At my old north Scottsdale clinic very rarely did a dental reach 2k! Unless, there was 10+ teeth coming out and oral surgery. You can go see a board certified animal dentist for that cost. I believe 1st Pet is price gouging. Aside from that, the tech was lovely and the doctor seemed nice. They got me in quickly and were very efficient. I just think they need to do some price adjustments! read more

Dr. Lindgren was the only reason I was able to get through the incredibly difficult experience of putting my dog down. His compassion, calming energy, and genuinely understanding nature helped put me at ease and made me feel like I was making the right decision in that heartbreaking moment. My dog, Liberty, meant everything to me. Watching her suffer at the end and having to say goodbye was one of the hardest things I've ever faced. My elderly dog was extremely sick this weekend. I thought that he was for sure going to have to be put down. When I brought him in, the staff here helped me get him out of the car and they wheeled him to the back immediately. The Dr on staff updated us consistently, the techs were so nice and the lady at the front desk brought us a basket with waters and some snacks. It was also great that they were respectful of how expensive these visits are already and did not try to add unnecessary procedures, or treatments. Rather, they were very upfront about the charges. When I picked up my dog the next morning, he was feeling much better. I can't thank them enough for taking care of my boy and for the kindness and compassion they showed. read more

We had to bring our 5lb chihuahua in when she sustained an injury in attempting to jump on s chair with a toy and fell backwards. They got us right in and after an exam, prescribed pain meds and muscle relaxers. She is doing much better now. read more

They handle my dog Bleu with care. He was 13 years old. He was coughing up blood every so often. He wasn't really eating and couldn't drink water unless we brought it to him. The day we brought him in he had a fall outside trying to do his potty time. The first place we took him to he was in pain and couldn't even get himself up. They refused to help. They said there was nothing they could do unless I prove ownership. Even though the chip company had a picture on file with me and him in the back of my excursion. The chip company is closed on weekends come to find out. I called 1st pets in a panic. They were so kind even though I was a bit snappy. When we arrived they brought out the gurney to bring in Bleu. They made everything so comfortable. We were in a private room. It was as calming as can be even though I was mentally overwhelmed. They had treats to give to him and chocolate kisses for ourselves. It was truly a great experience for the circumstances. Not only was I losing my service animal I was losing a family member. I came to pick up his ashes and everything and I couldn't say much once handed everything. The lady didn't just hand me his ashes but she went through it all with me. They even put in a card signed by staff and a grievance pamphlet. I can't even express how pleased I am. I want to thank the entire staff at the location on 7th ave and union hills. read more

Went to this clinic for a peaceful passing. They failed to give him enough meds to help him on his journey. He struggled for 20min as I ran around the clinic begging for help. In past fur baby experiences the vet should always stay till they can confirm the passing. They left us alone to struggle. I don't recommend this place... They left us traumatized. Peaceful euthanasia should be just that... Peaceful! I hope no one ever experiences this. The vet should always stay till they know for sure. We recently had to put our 15 year old beloved dog, Pablo down. He had some issues before this that we went to this place for and they took excellent care of him, so we came back when it was time to let him go. The staff and vet were so kind and compassionate, gave us a private air conditioned room, and plenty of time with him to say goodbye, and even let us bring his blanket, which all made the painful process much easier. Much thanks to the staff, vet, and social worker who even called and checked on us a few days afterwards. They even gave us some printed paw prints of his free of charge. I was sent to First Pet Vet by a tech at the vet I had gone to for the last 40 years. She could tell I was very upset after a week of no results and lack of communication by the vet. First Pet was like a night and day difference of what I had been going through. They helped my end my cat Tommy's suffering from what turned out to be a mass on his liver that the other vet "couldn't palpate". The one thing I asked of my old vet is to make sure Tommy did not suffer but waiting a week for something to change was not acceptable. Everyone at First Pet was attentive and extremely kind. The facility is very clean and quiet. So out of one of worst experiences I have ever had with one of my beloved pets at a vet, at least I have now found a new vet who actually cares about more than money. The tech at my old doc said it would be more cost effective to go there and it was, so for those complaining about costs I found them very reasonable. read more

1st Pet Veterinary's amazing staff saved my pups life after ingesting a lethal amount of xylitol. I literally had to carry in a 75 pound dog going into hypoglycemia. They kept him for 3 days and cared for him like you wouldn't believe. They sent pictures and called with updates multiple times a day. Do not trust this place. $$$$ hungry. PLEASE READ IN HONOR OF OUR VERY MUCH LOVED CAT MUDGE! We brought our 16 year old cat in for high fever, enlarged lymph nodes, lethargy and hadn't eaten or drank in 3 days. Dr was nice, a bit young and I believe inexperienced. We told her we only had x amount of money and wanted ""the best direction""" given the circumstances, knowing euthanasia may have been the best way for him. Clearly, stated "don't want him to suffer". After her examination she speaks a little about FELV, Cancer liver failure and OR a few other things. $$$$$$$! Long story short, she never clearly diagnosed our cat sends us home with SQ fluids, antibiotics and a nausea pill.??!! Planning for further tests to be done. $$$$$. Get our precious cat home give him his antibiotic and he LITERALLY CHOKES STARTS GASPING FOR AIR & STOPS BREATHING for a moment.. Holding and rubbing him hoping he won't die, we RUSH him back (only 20 min later) panicking and are rudely told it will be $$$225.00 because it's another Dr that will be seeing him now. WTF. We were literally just there & paid $200.00 he clearly didn't take the medication well at all and is choking........ I blew my stack. Are you kidding me? They take him back ""SAY THEY RAN HIS VITALS"" he's fine, just give him more water with the antibiotic next time it has a tendency to be a bit foamy. No care, concern or empathy AT ALL. The tech was a STONE and treating us like we were stupid. Well, today our cat is much worse now has a gurgling sound, he's wheezing, coughing etc. Wasn't like this yesterday! We find a place through a very educated dog person and went to get another opinion and guess what? Our cat actually aspirated the medication and wasn't FINE AT ALL..... 2nd opinion (old school Vet) cheaper with MANY YEARS OF PRACTICE "IN A CARING SOFT VOICE" says, WITHOUT HESITATION "I'm really sorry" your cat has advanced cancer in his lymph nodes and his lungs don't sound good, he is likely (due to the short time frame the antibiotic was given) suffering from aspiration of the antibiotic which is NOW in his lungs and causing distressed breathing!!!!!! We had to put him down. No questions asked about how or if we could afford it, immediately offered a payment plan no matter what direction we chose. We unfortunately now had to choose euthanasia because of the damage to his lungs. During the process the server wasn't responding, they took 20% for the euthanasia n offered to collect the rest each month until paid. THIS IS A GREAT DR !!!!! I googled Aspirated: Explanation: Medication aspiration occurs when a cat inhales medication into their lungs instead of swallowing it. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including struggling during medication administration or not taking the medication correctly. As soon as you suspect that your cat has aspirated medication, the first thing you should do is call your veterinarian. Aspiration can lead to lung inflammation and infection, and in severe cases, it can cause pneumonia or even death. Your vet can examine your cat and provide them with the appropriate treatment as soon as possible. DON'T YOU THINK THEY SHOULD OF KNOWN THIS IF THEY TRULY LOOKED AT HIM???? WE EXPLAINED EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!! DR'S RIGHT? AND,,,, EMERGENCY DRS AT THAT!!!!!! Bottom line, because we didn't have another $$$225.00 + (which we should NOT OF HAD TO PAY) they DID NOT Thoroughly check him "said his vitals were good" which was obviously A LIE and asked us the next time this happens """try to take a video so we have a better idea of what really happened""""". I don't know about anyone else, but,,,,, grabbing my cell to video tape my cats distressed breathing IS NOT ON MY MIND YOU IDIOT!!!!! I wanted to slap him...... In my mind they intentionally overlooked a VERY SERIOUS SITUATION and OUR CAT SUFFERED....... And let me be CLEAR if they would of cared more about the animal than the damn $$$$$$ our cat would of lived a bit longer without suffering the way he did and I wouldn't be writing this....... I bought a dog from who I thought was a good breeder. I got her 02/22 and within four hours she wouldn't stop vomiting, diarrhea and wouldn't walk or wag her tail. I brought her into 1st pet the following day where she was tested positive for parvo. the doctors, nurses and techs were all amazing with answering all my questions, texting me photos of my pup, keeping me updated around the clock and making me feel less scared about possibly losing my puppy. I was able to bring her home today 02/26 after a 72 hour stay. yes it's expensive. it's emergency care. what I took from this is please do your research and BUY PET INSURANCE. I will continue to recommend this vet from here on out. read more

I have had such a terrible experience with this place it is unbelievable. This office will do everything they can to make sure they get as much money from you as possible. My husband and I brought our dog in pretty late one night because he had a laceration on his leg. They told us they would not be putting him fully under, which thinking back on it, I absolutely believe they put him fully under with how loopy he was when he came back. But they did one of the worst stitch jobs i've ever seen on his leg. he had a decent sized cut, they used pretty big sutures and did what seemed like the minimal amount of sutures required to close the wound. My dog came back bleeding to which we were told that he was just fine and that this somehow fresh blood that was dripping out, was just "leftover". Not even 36 hours went by before we were on the phone with the office because some of his stitches were coming untied. After being told multiple times that it was fine, we ended up taking him back in the next night because one of his stitches was pretty much out of his leg. When we took him back in, they took him back, removed the one stitch we were concerned about and did nothing else claiming that this was all normal and that we had nothing to worry about. They gave us the pretty hefty bill, for essentially doing nothing, and sent us on our way. Within the next 16 hours. The remaining stitches were all untied. Another 24 hours later and his wound was completely open as if it had just happened. We called and sent pictures to the office when it happened. They could barely give us the time of day while talking with us and let us know that we would need to bring him back in. When I expressed my frustration with how badly this experience had gone, they offered to essentially start over and charge us full price since we would be starting back at square one. Nonetheless, we decided to go far, far away from this office and to one that finally was able to give my dog the care he needed. They used the proper sized sutures and it's been almost a week with zero issues or complaints. The other place we went even offered to look at any of his stitches and do his stitch removal free of cost. Which 1st Pet told us we would have to pay full price for when the time came. Moral of the story, PLEASE take your money anywhere else. 1st Pet took advantage of us in more ways than one and we had no idea until we had to go somewhere else. I will NEVER be retuning and will be directing anyone I can FAR, FAR AWAY from this place. I am appalled at my experience and have already been in contact with my lawyer to take legal action. EDIT: For the business owner that decided to reply assuming that I don't know how to care for my pet post operation. He did not move off the couch since he came home. He literally got picked up and moved IF he needed to be. He was constantly supervised and was never licking, biting or rubbing his legs in a way that would cause the sutures to come open. Based on his post care experience, there is absolutely NO REASON why his sutures should have come untied. I also have the hardest time believing that there was a secondary level of sutures that were placed to ensure closure. There is absolutely NO way that happened simply due to the timeline of his wound reopening. The secondary place we had to go to due to the many mistakes of your team properly placed the sutures and not one of his sutures has come untied. It is so telling that there is no accountability being taken or apologies. Super disappointing. read more

My dog had an obstruction in his intestines and they just sent him home! They said the X-rays were inconclusive but my dog continued to show symptoms so the very next morning we took him to a regular vet (not an emergency vet) and they performed the correct tests to find the obstruction right away! Dr. Tan seemed like she hated her job and dogs altogether. My dog did not take a liking to her right away (which is abnormal because he is very friendly). And instead of bending down and reassuring him, she literally crossed her arms and rolled her eyes at us! When we were asking questions and for more explanation, she seemed very annoyed and continued to roll her eyes at us. She would just roll her eyes and repeat herself instead of further explaining. We waited over 5 hours in the room to be given no answers. And everything we paid for was nearly twice the price as it was as the regular vet. read more

We had to take my family dog in, knowing that putting him down would probably be where we were headed. The receptionist took us to a room right away, and a tech came to see us not long after. They gave us options to move forward with care, but were honest about his age becoming a further issue going under anesthesia. All the women that helped us were very gentle and empathetic, but especially our tech that administered the drugs for him to pass. She let us hold him, stayed quiet until she had told us he was gone, and did not over step or pressure payment right away. They allowed us alone time if needed, both before and after administering the drugs, and provided us with complimentary ink prints of his paw. Let me start by saying Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!! On one of the hardest days thus far in my life 1st Pet fully surrounded me in love, support, care and encouragement. I moved to Arizona in 2011 within 9 months of being here I got Shawnna a pit mix from the HS (there are plenty of great dogs there) she was the most amazing dog I have ever known! She was my running partner, emotional support and cuddle buddy! literally she was AMAZING! She some how injured herself in about September of 2020 and 1st Pet took care of her, as a result of this she had a little lameness to her back leg but through pain management she was still my baby girl just not as active. But late May she couldn't even walk she wasn't eating or even relieving herself. I took her in and had a very had time even thinking about anything other then pain management, but two days later she was still hurting, she never even made a sound she was trying to stay strong and so was I. I talked to the vet and he simply reminded me about quality of life and how it was up to me as her mom to know when it was time. He was not pushing me in any direction just informing me of what was most important...Shawnna! So with a heavy heart I decided it was time, I called and they told me to come right in. On the way there I stopped and got my baby carne asada fries which she LOVED. When we got there the took me right to the back room and Shawnna to the back to get an IV. To my surprise there were all types of treats not for me but for her! There were doggy treats, cheese whiz, kit kats and other chocolate treats. The brought her back to me and handed me a little call button and told me to take my time and call and the doctor would come in. When I finally built up enough courage to call the dr in he was so comforting to both me and Shawnna. It was peaceful but super sad. A week or so late I received a little card in the mail singed by the office and it melted my heart that they took the time to express there condolences about my loss. Thank you all so much! Just left after the most unprofessional and horrid experience I've ever had at a Vet. I'm a 28yo guy who usually just mentally writes off negative reviews and gives places the benefit of the doubt but this was absolutely egregious. First off there was a 3 hour wait in between getting my cat's vitals checked and the main vet coming in, all while being told we were next in line consistently. Then when the vet finally came in she completely disregarded my advice on how to get him to stay still (he's an anxious lil guy) she pinpoints what I thought the issue was but when I brought up something else I wanted to look at she just ignored it. Offered a pain shot and some meds which hopefully help until I can get him into my primary vet for a teeth cleaning. (The issue in question.) THEN the Vet administering the shot came in. Again, I told her how my primary gets him to stay still and that wrapping him up will freak him out. She tells me "Well I know what I'm doing here so I'm going to wrap him up." Guess what she then attempts to do 3 more times. That's right! Wrap him up. He's never been difficult with shots before tonight, so it was laughable that she basically told me I was wrong but then gave my cat a panic attack. Absolute clown show of a vet hospital, I did my best to stay nice cause I never want to be a Karen, but my god man. Do your job. These are lives you're dealing with. read more

These people are First class! My baby was in stage 4 kidney failure. She had a seizure and I knew it was time. I called they said come right in. I am very disappointed with this place. I took my dog there and charged me $500 for an x-ray. Two days later we weren't any closer to figuring out what was wrong with my dog. Finally from the x-ray they determined it was cancer. The first time I took him there all they did was give him steroids. He ended up dying within five days of the first visit after they did the x-ray they wanted to give him an MRI, which was another thousand dollars. Unfortunately, the surgeries plus the MRI would've been thousands of dollars.. on a positive note they were very kind and polite people. That's why I gave them a second star. read more

Edited to say after waiting for 3 hours while my dog was coughing his head off nonstop, decided to walk out and go to petsmart for over the counter cough medicine........... crazy that they didn't really consider tracheal collapse, especially knowing my dog is 11 and is a pug and pugs are at a higher risk for that....all he needed was some kind of cough medicine and they had us wait for 3 hours when he was literally there days ago for surgery that caused the cough.
