Rocking the cone of shame like it's a TikTok Trend

Taking a pet to the emergency vet is always scary but when it's a 10 week old puppy, it's just a bit scarier. Brought in my puppy on Friday, December 12th, at 5:30pm after my regular vet told me "Yeah, we close here soon so we can't help you". I called ahead and the receptionist was very helpful. She even made sure I knew where to park so I don't have to stress over this. When I got to the clinic they told me right away to bring my puppy in the treatment room. Vet Tech Stacey, Dr. Mettenburg and Dr. Rushing took exceptional care of the puppy (and me). I was so baffled I could stay with him the entire time. After 3 long hours we were ready to go home and Fletch is going to be a-okay. While I wish I had met this amazing team under different circumstances, I am thankful I trusted my gut and went to this ER. Highly recommend VEG Lincoln Park.

This is now going to be my go to emergency room I bring my dog to! (Hopefully I don't ever have to again) I was amazed the moment we walked in when they immediately greeted us & rushed my husband & I WITH our dog to the back to be seen. We called on the way to make sure she could even be seen and they sent us an intake form to be filled out before we arrived. We did that in the Uber ride there. Our 8 year old dachshund had her very first seizure on our normal walk after work around 6 pm. We thought we almost lost her on wacker as we were walking through a mob of after work commuters. It was the scariest moment of our lives. After she came to we rushed her to this ER. LOVE the open concept of this ER! We were so happy to be able to go back with her while she was being seen & The fact that they treat your pets needs with urgency!!! Thank you sooo much to Cris or Kris who was our nurse. The compassion and patience she had was so different from what I've received at MedVet ER years ago. She spent so much time with our baby and answered all of our questions. She gave us her honest opinion and didn't seem salesly when talking to us about treatment options. She mentioned the bloodwork and IV could be possibly around $500 but would have the Dr. confirm. Dr. Cave was also very compassionate and sweet. She recommended we do blood work, IV and even XRays to check our dogs brain. We opted to just do bloodwork and wait to take her to a neurologist next week. The bloodwork came back in about 30 mins! While we waited I grabbed us some snacks because it was dinner time and we were STARVING! (Great snack options!!! Loved the healthy options) Loved the water dispenser with flavor options as well. The bathroom was shockingly really clean also!! These little details all made me feel better about spending $1000 on blood work that I could have done for free at Banfield with her plan. The girls working the desk were also so sweet. Highly recommend this place! Thank you to all the amazing staff for working odd late hours for our babies !!! You guys are all angels!!!

Can't say enough good things about Veterinary Emergency Group. Noticed something wrong with my kitten Harley this AM so rushed over to VEG. They got her in for triage quickly and I don't remember everyone's name but Ally and the person supporting her were amazing with Harley who is very shy. They were able to take care of the problem. While I waited for the doctor, I spoke with Danny in the lobby and that definitely helped with my anxiety. He was also very clear about what to expect from the timeline to see the doctor and the financial side as well. Ultimately Harley got an xray after they took care of the problem and that looked good so now we're home. Thank you (again) VEG!!!

I cannot recommend VEG enough if you ever have a veterinary emergency. They specialize in all animals and have the most wonderful, transparent, hands on approach to your pet's care. Owners are very well informed every step of the way and can stay as long as they want. My brother's cat unfortunately got very sick and got the best care during his 72 hour stay. They even have a quiet room for anxious kitties that is in the back and has cat TV playing for them. VEG is a chain so be sure to check which location is the closest to you.

Our beloved cat, king of our house, fell screaming to the bathroom floor one August morning. Horrified, we rushed him here. The vet quickly assessed what had happened and got him on pain meds. She suspected he had thrown a blood clot, probably due to heart disease. Circulation tests proved her hunch had been correct, and his back legs had no blood or oxygen flow. We had to say goodbye to our sweet baby that day. They kept him comfortable while we dealt with the shock, called our daughter at school, and waited for her to join us. We all said goodbye together for well over an hour, and when we saw exhaustion in his eyes, we knew it was time. We got to hold him and tell him we loved him, and everyone was kind to us, letting us take up a little exam room for half the afternoon. This vet office made a tragic day the best it could be, letting us grieve but be close to our little guy as we said our goodbyes. I can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work here.

Mavis says thank you for your patience.

Update: Star added upon second visit. I cannot thank the VEG group enough. I was a witness for an alleged...hit and run involving an SUV and a small breed dog. They did everything medically possible to try and bring her back but I suspect the injuries were just too extensive. I felt so helpless in trying to comfort the young woman I just met. I want to reiterate that this was not her fault. Both her dog and her were taken to a private room. Once I found out she had a friend coming for comfort I got up to leave and the reality hit me. I can jump into action like there's no tomorrow, it's the coping and/or aftermath that gets me. I also have a syndrome that can sometimes get me faint if I stand up too fast. I wasn't thinking and soon was being caught by the staff. They made sure I was alright before I left. It was a worst case scenario situation and VEG went above and beyond for everyone involved. All who was there, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

Dani post overnight discharge

Can't say enough good things about VEG. Our puppy Dani had the tail end of the bone stuck in her esophagus, so we rushed her in for treatment. Dr Boiskin sat us down and explained our options and helped us determine our best option to save our puppy. Dr Boiskin and Dr Schanks began a scope to remove the bone from her esophagus and successfully saved her. From the nurses that comforted us to the overnight staff that took care of Dani, we appreciate everything VEG was able to do. They are so kind and helpful, always willing to answer questions on the phone and take the time out of their busy schedule to help you feel comfortable for what was going on at home!! Thank you, VEG, for everything you did for us and for saving our puppy Dani!!

It has been a stressful week for my cat and me. I was wasting a lot of money and time going to one emergency place on changing my cat's bandages on his tail. If I only l knew about this place earlier I would have just bite the bullet and taken him here for a tail amputation. They were able to work with me get the surgery grey needed. They were all so kind and helpful. Even the small waiting room had snacks, coffee, and flavored carbonated water. Thank you so much to staff and Dr. Natalie Gulson.

I had to bring my 15 year cat, Renée, in for Anemia after my primary vet (@ Broadway Animal Hospital - word of warning - stay away) caused some pelvic fractures while performing surgery. MedVet Doctors told me the positives doing something and also any negatives. For example the Anemia needed a transfusion (positive), but the pelvic fractures may have a leakage, which will effect have the transfusion may help (negative). They kept me informed during the 3 days, 2 nights (2 days & 1 night in ICU) she was there. The staff give great care for Renée and allowed me to visit her before and after my work days. The entire staff showed Renée empathy and mentioned how beautiful she is. You cannot ask for a more caring place for your four legged companion. Four stars were given and not 5, because I found that follow-up calls were badly handled even after I called them. And how they handled the Pathology (about the cancerous lump) information from my primary vet was definitely a negative. But after those two weeks, Renée is back to her routines of walking with me down a hallway (now with a limp), eating her daily meals, and just being a happy cat. Her positivity in dealing with all this is amazing.

We took our cat here when she swallowed thread that was attached to a sewing needle and, while the…read morestaff was nice and the facilities clean, there were several issues: 1. We arrived and checked in within 30 minutes of the needle swallowing. We were seen by a vet tech for vitals relatively quickly and they told us they would take her back for an X-ray. We were told that she may be bumped in line for more emergent cases, but that they would bring her out to us if that were the case. After about 3 hours and checking in twice, a tech brought her out to us in the waiting area and said that they were still waiting on X-ray availability and had forgotten to let us know. 2. The hospital triages based on symptoms and emergency levels: immediate intervention(red), urgent intervention (yellow), and stable (green). Our cat was designated urgent, meaning intervention and observation were necessary, but not immediate. Understandable, and an estimate of 4-6 hours was given. We sat with her in the waiting area for another 3 hours while other pets that had come in after us and were designated as stable saw a doctor before us. 3. When we were taken to an exam room and our cat taken for an X ray, it was another hour or so before the vet came in. To be expected, she had a needle in her stomach. At this point, the vet informed us that the best option for removal would be endoscopy (going in through the mouth with a scope and a tool) under sedation. Again, to be expected and what we were waiting to hear. However, we were also told that the hospital's anesthesiologist or sedation expert was "on call" and could choose to decline to come in. Generally, I would want any medical professional to be rested and feel that they could perform a procedure, but they had not even called them yet to ask if that was a possibility. We were then told that another option was to move our cat to another emergency vet center that has sedation on hand 24/7. Frankly, that would have been nice to know 6 hours earlier. We ended up taking her to the other emergency vet center and they went in, retrieved the needle, and got us out within two hours. So, we waited 6-7 hours, paid nearly $800 for them to confirm what we already knew, and ended up being pawned off on to another center. The good news is that our cat is 100% fine and back to normal. While I am not a vet, I have experience with human anatomy, and the primary concern with ingesting a sharp object is always perforation. We were very fortunate that the needle didn't perforate her esophagus on the way down, and that it remained in her stomach and didn't work its way through her gastrointestinal system while we were waiting on an X ray. I appreciate that emergency medicine requires triage and that every customer there was worried for their pet. However, whether it was a busy day, lack of communication, or general disorganization, the situation with our cat could have easily gone south, requiring surgical intervention. Which is ironic considering that they couldn't guarantee that they would be able to have a staff member sedate her. MedVet is a partner of our primary care vet, so I expected more and was very disappointed. In any future emergency, we will not be bringing our cats here.

This time they were much more confident with helping my rabbit and definitely got him back on track, thank God, because it was Sat night and his vet didn't open until Monday. I'm so grateful ! I can't tell you how much of a comfort it is to have a place that's open 24 hours for pet emergencies. Bless you! Rebecca and Dr. Herzhoff were great; Rebecca was so caring and just was a giant relief to calm me down when I was so panicked. She's an absolute asset to your business and obviously loves her job. Dr. Herzhoff was super kind and careful towards my rabbit and did a great job explaining everything. She was also very kind and helpful over the phone when I called back with questions. I called extremely concerned that our 5 week old foster was not well and explained that the rescue was closed (it was 12 am) but the puppy seemed to be rapidly deteriorating health wise. Given we have no medical say over a foster, I was panicked. They assured me that we would figure it out together and to get there as soon as possible, ending the call with "please drive safe", showing their true compassion. They greeted us at the door and immediately got us in front of Dr Hayward (who was so kind, caring and a sincere person). They checked his vitals and rushed him into an oxygen chamber since his breathing was so poor. I sat panicked trying to find a way to connect with the rescue. Even after finding their information, I was there for over two hours and although I was scared, Ashley didn't let me feel alone in the situation. She sat with me and chatted to help calm me. It was like I was talking to a close friend but she was just a deeply genuine animal lover like I am, so we connected. You can tell everyone there cares so deeply for the loved ones you bring in. They helped me to advocate for the puppy to the rescue when they denied service/ they told me to take him home. They were able to relay the seriousness of the situation to a person who seemed like they were in over their heads at the rescue. They transferred our information and condition to the Buffalo Grove Veg ER so that he could remain on oxygen (instead of going home with me) from 3 am to the time the rescue opened at 630 am. Unfortunately, after so much hard work and attention, the rescue decided to euthanize that sweet little 5 week old puppy but I know his last few hours would have been so much more miserable without the team at VEG ER and VEG Buffalo grove (the rescues partner location- also phenomenal but that review won't come until all of the puppies are healthy, safe and adopted). I never want anyone to have a medical emergency for their pet but if you do, please trust their team to help you. Sorry this was so long but I truly hope the team working on the night of 8/16 // morning of 8/17 see this and know my immense gratitude. A special thank you to Dr Hayward and Ashley.

I had to bring in my Meowth, who was 12 years old with chronic kidney disease that was diagnosed a couple of years ago. He lost a bunch of weight and didn't really eat well for a few days. I naively thought that he didn't like the wet food I bought so I purchased another brand to see if he would eat. Little did I know that I was too late to save his life. He was admitted to the hospital at 10pm ish on a Monday evening and we were there until 3am the next day. We were assigned a room and the assistant performed the intake immediately. After that, the wait was long; hence, I had to deduct one star for this review. Nevertheless, once it was our turn, the vet on duty told us the blood work was necessary and then we were just patiently waiting for the results and were wondering how Meowth was doing. Everyone was compassionate and kind. The lobby had coffee, tea, and vending machines selling snacks and pops. It turned out that Meowth had to be on a watch for another day and would be receiving the rehydration treatment and ultrasound. I knew some bills definitely would need to be paid. The good thing was an itemized bill would always be provided for me to review, so I understood what each treatment or medicine cost. Doctor Pratt spoke to me on the phone in the afternoon and patiently explained the results from the ultrasound. As I guessed, they didn't look promising. Doctor Pratt answered all my questions and it helped make the decision for Meowth. We picked up Meowth after work. Medicine and discharge instructions were given. In addition, resources for euthanasia were handed to me. Unfortunately, I ended up choosing in-home euthanasia for Meowth the following day so that the entire family, including his feline bonding mate, Persian, could witness and perhaps have some closure. I didn't know Meowth developed an aggressive form of carcinoma in a such short amount of time. Doctor Pratt informed me the affected area and told me the life expectancy after chemotherapy if I were to elect that route. I really appreciated her honesty. At least I gained clarity on Meowth's conditions and I wanted to do what was best for him. I know this is an unusual review with lack of happiness. In the end, I am beyond grateful for the 24-hour service that "Premier Veterinary Group" offers. I still have the other cat with me and I do hope that things will be less tragic when it comes to health emergency on a pet. As expected Mel charmed the pants off everyone and his photoshoot was more than I could've imagined. Unfortunately, the surgery revealed that his cancer was advanced and everywhere. When we took him home, they noted all of the ways he tried to con them into removing his cone and truly seemed enamored with him. Over the holidays, we knew the end was close and had scheduled an at home euthanasia for New Year's Day. Unfortunately Mel's little body had other plans. He started crashing NYE morning, so we called them to tell them we were coming. They started an IV and let me hold him in my arms while we said goodbye. They gave us options as to how present we wanted to be during the process and never once rushed us. They didn't bat an eye when I came in disheveled and crying.
