I first visited Medvet 10 years ago when my now 10.5 year old French bulldog consumed grapes during a walk. He was hospitalized for a week, which was absolutely terrifying for this new dog owner, but the staff was very kind and patient, regularly assuring me everything was going to be okay. He left the hospital with no permanent kidney damage thanks to their excellent medical care. I visited Medvet with the same pup again about six years ago for an oncologist consultation following two surgeries removing a total of four mast cell tumors. The oncologist was so knowledgeable and compassionate during the initial consultation that I was finally able to relax a bit despite not yet knowing if the cancer has metastasized. After an ultrasound and some bloodwork, he was able to give us the great news - the cancer had not metastasized. My pup has not had any health issues since. Two weeks ago, I rushed my 16.5 year old Bengal cat, Stevie, to Medvet after she suffered what appeared to be a stroke. Her health had been declining over the past year (zero health concerns prior). Our regular vet was concerned she might have cancer after reviewing bloodwork results six months ago, but since I refused to put a 16 year old cat through chemo or radiation, we decided to monitor the situation. The results of the bloodwork at Medvet ruled out every easily treatable illness... cancer likely caused the neuro issue. I'd never had to make the hard decision to compassionately end a fur baby's life, but I believed in my heart it was the best thing for her. And minutes later I questioned my decision... I probably spent an hour going back and forth while sobbing uncontrollably, and the amazing team at medvet counseled me through it all. Ultimately, they made me feel comfortable about my decision to let Stevie go with dignity. Since her passing, I've received multiple cards from the staff at Medvet. Their team truly cares about every patient AND owner. Their compassion and kindness is second to none. read more

With a cat with a serious congenital heart defect, she needed an echocardiogram and this is one of the few animal hospitals in the Chicago area that provides this diagnostic testing on animals. Dr Luethy was amazing. Maybe the most informative Dr I've ever been to --animal or human. He covered everything in detail in ways that I could understand. It isn't cheap. $1,000 for the consultation and echocardiogram. But hopefully with meds, she'll live a long life. Without this diagnosis and treatment, it'd be a grave prognosis. The short review: my baby girl is now gone, and Oz Animal Hospital and MedVet did nothing to help her. Two weeks ago, I took my cat to Oz Animal Hospital to see Dr. Bruner for what I thought was an ear infection. Instead, I was told she had a "mass" with a secondary infection. A tissue sample was taken and sent to pathology. We were sent home with antibiotic ear drops intended for dogs (used off-label on my cat) and told we'd need to see a surgeon or dermatologist. The biopsy came back inconclusive because it was dead tissue. Meanwhile, those drops began affecting her inner ear almost immediately. Within three days, my sweet girl was losing her balance and acting completely unlike herself. I then went to MedVet Chicago to see Dr. Wyatt, hoping for urgent care. He examined her and admitted he wasn't sure there was even a mass, but his recommendation? A series of tests and surgery totaling $11,000. I stopped him and said, "No one has treated the infection. Can we please start there?" I requested a bacterial culture and an antibiotic injection. He took the culture but refused the injection, saying systemic antibiotics aren't typically effective for ear infections and that topical treatment would be better. He said that he would call with results. Two days later, he called with preliminary results and said he'd call again five days later (after Labor Day) with the full report and a treatment plan to get us started while we waited to get into a dermatologist elsewhere (earliest was October 8). I asked again for an antibiotic injection, and again, I was told to wait. Meanwhile, my cat was declining rapidly. When her condition worsened, I called Oz Animal Hospital sobbing for help. None of their three locations could see her. I asked if she could at least get an antibiotic injection, and they told me to contact MedVet. So between two supposedly reputable veterinary providers, I was told to wait, to go elsewhere, and to do nothing while my baby's life slipped away. Yesterday, she passed away in my arms. And it didn't have to happen. What did I learn? That Oz Animal Hospital and MedVet Chicago failed my cat at every step. No urgency. No compassion. No basic care. Just expensive recommendations and passing the responsibility back and forth. If you value your pet's life, please do not trust these clinics. Ask hard questions. Demand action. Don't assume these people will do what's right for your pet. They didn't for mine. read more

I've taken my pets here since they were formerly located on Clyburn, and received the same consistent care- surgery, PT or emergency care. This was not a great experience, and unfortunately, it was very evident from the beginning. I understand that veterinary clinics can be stressful environments, especially when our furry friends are sick, but I expected more compassion for pet owners--humans--who are going through difficult moments. After checking in and completing the usual paperwork, I was faced with the unexpected pressure of making immediate decisions regarding services and payment before my pet was even seen. While I understand the need for financial procedures, the timing and tone made the process feel cold and transactional. Sadly, I didn't receive good news about my pet's condition and was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. The doctor, to their credit, was very sympathetic and understanding. They allowed me some time in a private room to say my goodbyes before the procedure, which I appreciated. However, the staff member who entered afterward completely lacked empathy. There was no recognition of the emotional weight of what I was going through--just an abrupt focus on payment and logistics. I understand this is a business, and services must be paid for, but when someone is grieving the loss of a beloved companion, some compassion goes a long way. Especially considering you already had my credit card on file. What should have been a moment of dignity and care for both my pet and myself felt rushed, cold, and centered around money. Huge thank you to the team at Medvet. My senior pup was suffering from pneumonia aspiration and was rushed to medvet from our vet as she was not breathing well without oxygen support. My poor girl barely made the 15min drive as she was struggling to breathe. Upon arriving the team was quick to respond and also provided a special waiting room and social worker to make sure i was also being supported in this extremely emotional and stressful process. Doctors were compassionate and thorough through her whole 2 day stay in ICU. They were communicative in every step and made sure i felt confident in all the next steps of her treatment without making me feel like i was being pressured or taken advantage of financially in such a traumatic time. After 2 days in ICU, my tough girl pulled through and was able to come home to rest and recover. I truly believe they did everything to bring her home to me and genuinely care about their patients as well as their owners. They created a safe place to feel and stay positive while also being realistic and leading with empathy. Additionally, facilities were clean and professional just as any human hospital should be. I was lied to over and over again by the ED staff. First they said you cannot visit while the cat gets blood, not true I have visited before during transfusion. Then I cannot visit during shift change, which is TWO HOURS. It's only an hour for humans in the ICU. Then after all that, I'm told I still have to wait and wait and wait. I just wanted to see my cat. I just want to see the cat for 2 minutes. Disheartening. Have me pay $3k for "care" and then make me jump through hoop after hoop and deny me to see my own pet. My animal was given 1 month to live. I just want to see him. Nope. I didn't follow the rules. Now they will flex to show me I'm powerless. Poor service, heartless care. Don't go here. read more

We are very grateful for the care our dear dog Brynley got from Dr. Michael Leuthey and his staff in his cardiologiy practice at Medvet Chicago. Brynley was diagnosed with heart trouble at a rather early age, but she lived and thrived many years under his care, and actually succumbed to kidney failure ultimatel, rather than her heart problems. Furthermore, treating her kidneys was much safer due to the fact that her heart meds protected her from going into heart failure as a co-morbidity. I will always be grateful for his counsel helping us decide when it was time to let go, one of the hardest decisions a pet parent ever faces. Thank you so very much. read more

I hate to critique this place after many positive experiences. But today was not one of those. Brought cat in at 4:50 am, vitals done-we were the only clients. That's why we came in so that we could finish up and get to work. Told at 5:15 that night team was finishing up and day vet would be here at 6. Got called in around 6:25 and talked to the doctor. Cat taken for blood tests at 6:45. Around 7:40, we were told that there were too many critical cases and blood would be delayed. Called from home at 9:00 and told blood was drawn and pending. Came in at 10:15 and told that someone would be with me soon as there were lots of critical cases. At 10:45, I asked them to bring our cat out so that I could take her home-and they could call with results later. Finally got the results and took her out at 11:00. I recognize that critical cases take time and I do understand that the night person didn't think that a stable cat at the "end of a busy shift" is a priority. But we came in 1:15 before the end of a shift-not 5 minutes before shift change. What time interval is considered to be the "end of shift?" It seems that a 5-10 minute exam during the last hour of a shift or the very beginning of another shift-after arriving at 4:45-would have been a reasonable consideration. I hope this was a one-off bad experience. But communication, prioritization and client consideration were missing from this visit and will be factored into future care decisions. read more

I had very high hopes after being referred here by our primary vet. Unfortunately, our experiences with the oncology team weren't great. The vets themselves were wonderful and very knowledgable. The issue llies with communication as a whole. There were several times that our Corgi's Chemo drugs were "called in" to the 3rd party pharmacy but the pharmacy kept coming back saying they were never called in. Upon further investigation, the vets confirmed they forgot to send it, on multiple occasions. Communication with the oncology team was nearly impossible. I left 4 messages over 5 business days in December and those messages ranged from chemo refills to end of life care as our poor girl started to experience seizures. No call back until after she had passed. while im sure this wasn't intentional, the level of service from this establishment was pretty awful. Even when we'd go to pay our bill as we left the cancer unit, there was NEVER anyone staffing that desk and then you'd walk to the ER and they'd let you check out there.. Wont be returning, wont be referring anyone here. Do better with your comms. You are not the reason our sweet Corgi is gone but you certainly didn't help much with answering our questions or refilling medications on time. read more

Medvet messed up our dog's memorial items. After spending thousands of dollars there within 48 hours, we had to put our baby down. We never received a patch of our dog's fur nor a nose print even after we paid for them and were assured three times that they wrote everything down and packed them when i picked her up, and we never will. I then had to play phone tag to figure out what happened while grieving. I do not recommend this place, they do not care about your animals "as if they're one of their own." I trusted you with my baby and i regret taking her here, you let us down. I didn't even get an "I'm sorry" during these calls which is the cherry on top, they did not care. We had a great experience bringing our pet in the middle of the night when she had GI issues. We were kept informed of triage status regularly and what was happening with Jojo once they took her for examination. They were upfront with costs the whole time and made sure we had a ballpark financial estimate for the tests that were conducted. We lost our Juno -- and I'm not at peace with how MedVet handled her final days. We lost our beloved 12-year-old Shih Tzu, Juno, just after midnight on July 4, 2025. I'm still grieving, but I feel strongly that her final weeks -- and especially her last visit to MedVet -- were not handled with the urgency, attentiveness, or compassion we needed. Yes, Juno had been fighting confirmed pulmonary carcinoma. The diagnosis came after a needle aspirate performed on 06/10/25 at BluePearl, later confirmed by MedVet's oncologist based on CT and clinical signs. Despite this, she was still alert, mobile, eating, drinking, and interacting with us all the way to her last day. We brought her to MedVet on July 3rd for a follow-up to evaluate her ongoing discomfort and arm lameness. She had not significantly improved, and we hoped for more direction. Instead, the only response was a new strong painkiller (hydrocodone) and a conversation about palliative care. That was it. No further imaging, no more detailed review, no aggressive efforts to keep her stable -- just more medications and a resigned attitude. By that night, she became weaker. They seemed concerned, but in the way that reminded us we were just another case -- not a family begging for more time with our baby. "Quality of life," "let her go," "euthanasia" -- these words were repeated over and over, but I couldn't help but feel they were ready to move on before we were. Let me be clear: this had nothing to do with her old ITP, which was well-managed back in December 2023. It was her cancer, her pain, her resilience -- and a lack of comprehensive coordination during her final days. Juno wasn't just a chart. She was the one who sprinted at the park, played tag on the bed, squeezed herself into corners when scared, and slept beside me every night while I comforted her through pain. To other families: Trust your instincts. Push back on any care that doesn't feel enough. Question every medication and treatment. This review is exclusively for the end-of-life services that we utilized at MedVet on California Ave. We did not utilize any other veterinary or specialty services. We were also not previously a customer here. We knew that the time had come for our beautiful 16-year-old pit mix, Odie, to cross the Rainbow Bridge just a few days ago. When we woke up in the morning, it was very obvious that this was going to be her last day. She was struggling and suffering so much that we reached out to our local neighborhood Facebook group for recommendations of where to take her. We were recommended MedVet multiple times. Our family is glad that we chose this particular practice. First of all, if you, like us, find yourself in need of end-of-life services for your pet, I highly recommend this location. The room that they will take you to is NOT an exam room. It has a couch and a couple chairs. There is enough space for your whole family to be there. It is roughly a 12x14 room They have plenty of tissue boxes as well. They did not limit how many people we had in the room for the euthanization. For the record, there were 4 of us. We asked them if there was a limit for how many people could be in the room and they said absolutely not. They were so kind to us. So respectful in the way that they spoke to us. It was about $450 to put our 80 lb dog to sleep, receive her remains afterwards, along with a memorial footprint in clay. That cost was so much lower than the five other places that we reached out to. Not to mention our attempt to have it done at home, which the bare minimum for that would have been $750. The room is clean, roomy and comfortable. They will provide you a blanket to lay on the floor if you do not bring something for yourself. They absolutely allow you to bring your pet's blankets or your pet's bed with you if you would like and there is plenty of room in there to lay that down. The vet came in and asked our permission for every. single. thing. she did. Asking us if we were ready, before each individual step that she did. We did not feel rushed in any way. After the euthanasia, there is a doorbell on the wall inside the room that you can push when your family is ready for your pet to be taken out of the room. They give you the option to watch your pet be placed on the gurney and removed from the room, or you can elect to leave your pet with the vet tech and your family can leave the room before that happens. It's 100% based on what works best for your family. But there is no rush. You are welcome to have locks of hair cut by the vet tech and given to you in a keepsake bag for no extra charge. They created three separate keepsake bags for us and we were not charged anything for that. All you have to do is ask. They were absolutely wonderful to us. We could not have asked for better. The staff was kind, quiet, calm, respectful and accommodating. We just wanted to let others know, if you are looking for end-of-life services for your pet, this location would be a wonderful choice, especially if you cannot afford the incredibly expensive in-home euthanization. Do not bring your pet here!! I wish this 'Star' rating system went into the negatives because even '0 stars' is inadequate. Medvet killed our 7 year old cat and then tried to blame it on our cat. Our Cat was the most loving and coolest kitty ever and this ordeal with Medvet has been a roller coaster of emotions from the time we first brought our cat in. One day our cat was dragging her back left leg, we thought she broke her leg so we rushed her up to Medvet - turns out she had a blood clot in her left hind leg - initially the intake doc diagnosed our cat with Serious heart disease and congestive heart failure and told us we should consider putting her down!! We were devastated and in disbelief - our 7 year old cat was super active and would run up our stairs and jump off the wall like a skateboarder! Well instinctively that night, we did not listen to the doctor THANK GOD and decided to admit her for observation through the night. Upon returning to Medvet the next morning the cardiologist said our cat did NOT have serious heart disease and the clot put her into congestive heart failure but that could be reversed. SO we kept her in the hospital. 10 days in the hospital $17,000 later - we finally got her home - two days after we brought her home, we gave her a bath and discovered a cut on her leg - had to rush her back up to the Medvet hospital where the intake doc tells us she's very concerned with this cut and that we should consider amputation - I said "of her leg?" We were Furious - obviously Medvet sent her home with this cut on her leg because it was so severe the it was infected the entire circumference of her leg DOWN TO THE BONE! They tried to tell us she couldn't feel it and tried to blame it on her - we said nice try - while in the hospital we visited our cat twice a day and she was an angel. They wrapped her leg and charged us an additional $2000 not taking any responsibility AT ALL! Despicable. To save our cat's life so the infection did not go into the bone and into the blood we had to amputate her leg - It was so horrific. I knew it was the beginning of the end. It clearly cannot be good for anyone after having a blood clot and going into congestive heart failure to then have to endure a serious amputation surgery... Our little babydoll was getting used to tripod life and unfortunately, after a beautiful bloodwork report from another vet a week prior, she threw another blood clot in her front right leg 9 weeks after the first incident. At this point she could not walk due to the amputation of the back left leg so we had to make the heart wrenching decision to put her down because she's a cat and can no longer walk and jump and live her best cat life. It was again - devastating. In total we spent $25,000 at Medvet and our cat is dead. I blame Medvet for their medical negligence and the untimely death of our sweet Francesca. Do not bring your pet here. Do not be intimidated by doctors, think for yourself - the doctors do not know everything. You know your pet, trust your instincts but do not bring your pet here. While my beloved senior cat ultimately didn't make it, I feel he got the best chance he could with the MedVet team's help. We ended up going there for three visits to critical care, including two overnight stays. The two doctors I ended up seeing were great about explaining what was going on and what my options were. They were honest about my cat's prognosis and the pros/cons of each option at each stage, and up front about the costs. I was extremely fortunate to be able to give him a fighting chance. When it became clear he wouldn't make it without more intensive intervention that I wasn't willing to risk when his quality of life was already deteriorating fast, they were able to recommend an in-home euthanasia service that made the whole process as gentle as it could be for both of us. I also appreciated that I was able to visit my cat when he was staying overnight. It was stressful to see all of the activity and noise he was surrounded by while he was in the critical care area (the cats-only area was a little quieter), but that made it all the more valuable to me that I was able to come over and give him some love. Every single staff person I encountered was so, so kind. It's got to be a hard job dealing with not just sick and injured patients but also their stressed and distraught owners, and I was impressed by their effort to make the whole thing just a little easier. read more

MedVet Chicago failed my dog in the most reckless and negligent way imaginable. Between September 17-19, 2025, Dr. Diamond Taylor and Dr. Olivia Parwana discharged her with critically low platelets (18,000-24,000). They ignored clear signs of gastritis-even though they saw it on ultrasound and documented it in clinical notes, gave no gastroprotective medications, ultimately leading to a gastric hemorrhage resulting in euthanasia. I'm furious that they standard of care was not met, and I can say that factually and with supreme confidence as a clinician with a background in hematology/oncology. You ALWAYS cover your low platelet patients for a bleed-there are no exceptions to this rule. Moreover, their discharge instructions are also dangerously reckless with critical omissions. In what world would you discharge a pancytopenic patient without clear and specific instructions to keep the patient as aseptic as possible? Infection control is CRUCIAL in patients with a low white count. I knew to keep her aseptic because I'm in medicine, the average pet parent is not. In what warped version of reality would you ever discharge a severely thrombocytopenic patient without specific bed rest instructions? This is a rudimentary concept for anyone in any kind of medicine. The fact that they had two different vets sign off on this is wild. Did these people graduate from accredited programs? When I contacted the medical director, Kevin Przybylski, he promised to respond in a week -- he never did, and my follow-up email was completely ignored. This clinic's lack of transparency, competence, and basic care directly led to my dog's suffering and death. If you value your pet's life, stay far away from MedVet Chicago. Our cat Pickles became very lethargic over a few days and we brought him to ER on a Friday night. Within an hour they had run some tests and determined his red blood cell count was extremely low and started a blood transfusion upon our approval. 4 nights, and a total of 5 blood transfusions later, he was well enough to go home. Over those few days they stayed in constant contact with us letting us know how he was doing and what they discovered. It turns out he had a bleeding ulcer and they were able to fix that. I honestly don't know where to begin with this review because my experience here was awful. I really don't leave reviews but when it's this awful, I absolutely have to especially when it's something to do with our pets. I took my dog who was extremely sick in to get seen. The first doctor, we sat down and talked to was great. I believe it was Dr. Gibble. But everything from here on out was awful. While I was sitting there waiting, someone had just picked up their dog from surgery. A few minutes after walking out into the parking lot, they came back in with the dog that was gushing blood out of the place where they had stuck the IV in. I should've known then to run as fast as I could away from that place. My dog needed to stay overnight to get some test done in the morning. Unfortunately, the results did not bring good news. After the phone call, I went to pick her up, visibly upset. I just got devastating news and when I went to pick her up, I felt no compassion whatsoever from the person at the front desk. I understand you have to have thick skin working in this business and maybe seeing people cry is nothing new to you, but I felt extremely disregarded in that moment. I was fully aware. I had a balance to pay, but the way that he handled it was very offensive. Once my dog was brought out to me, I was expecting to be able to sit down and speak with the doctor about her diagnosis and what to expect and how much longer we had together. But instead, all they did was bring her out to me and hand me a bag of medications. One of the things in the bag was a prescription dog food. When I originally went in they asked me if she had any allergies and I told them she was allergic to chicken. And to my surprise, the prescription food they were handing me to bring home and feed her was chicken. All the vet tech did was take the food out of the bag. She didn't even offer to replace it with something that didn't have chicken in it. I was then told to have a great day and no one else came out to speak to me. Luckily I have an amazing primary vet (Good Vets on Belmont-HIGHLY recommend). They were able to help support me in this difficult time. Answer any questions and provide me with the correct medication's and food that did not have chicken in it. Honestly, if you wanna try your luck coming here go ahead, but if your pet means as much to you as mine does do not go here you will definitely regret it. read more

last week, july 17th, i had to put my sweet baby down. she was a retired service dog, 13 years old, and was suffering from some health problems. i came to medvet and they took such good care of her and were so respectful and kind to my mother and i. i cannot thank them enough. a week later after her passing, they gave me a call to check in on how i was doing and today i received this beautiful card in the mail giving their condolences. thank you medvet. thank you for taking such good care of her and checking up on me afterwards. your kindness will never go unnoticed read more

Not once did they offer me a payment plan (unless they didn't offer them back then) If the cost is high, they should automatically offer credit or affordable payment plans on the spot. Excellent urgent care, internal medicine, critical care (ICU), and subspecialty veterinary hospital. We were recommended to come here by our home vet when our older dog 14.5y started having breathing issues. They took him back immediately and diagnosed him within minutes with congestive heart failure. I was so scared, but also not too surprised as mitral valve disease runs in his breeds (yorkie, shih-tzu), and he is 100 years old in dog years. They gave him CHF meds and got him stable. Were realistic with prognosis and spoke to me with respect and empathy. They understood with my own medical background that I knew most of what was going on and how to treat him. Anyways, we saw internal medicine, critical care, and radiology and cardiology consults and everyone on the team were and still are amazing. Our regular vet told us they were not comfortable managing CHF in elderly dogs, but as a physician myself, I spoke the MedVet and they agreed to let me manage it and they can refill prescriptions as needed. As all he is symptom treatment for the rest of his little life. Now they are my go to vet for both dogs. Super fast and efficient. Honest. Will work with you and your budget. Most of all, you can tell they really care about helping animals first. read more

I took my Cat Teddy here after being hit by a car and the care they gave BOTH of US was nothing short of amazing. I was devastated completely shattered and The doctor literally cried with Me. They provided a Social Worker who gave me resources and held my hand as I made one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I arrived at MedVet at approximately 7:00 am on Friday morning. No patients were in the waiting room. I went to the intake desk and said, "My veterinarian referred my cat, Aslan, to MedVet to see the ophthalmologist on staff because within the last 24 hours, she lost all vision." She took the basic information and sent me and my sweet cat to the waiting area. After 45 minutes, we were taken to an exam room and asked the same questions that the intake person asked. Then she told me that she was going to take Aslan to another room to get her vitals and they would be right back. An hour later, a doctor came into the exam room without Aslan saying that she had examined her and that her eyes were not responding to light and that it was not likely a neurological problem. She said that she wanted to do blood work and urine analysis. I asked if they had taken her blood pressure. She said no. I believe it should have been the first thing they did and you will see why if you read on. I asked when she would see the ophthalmologist? The doctor said that the ophthalmologist was not in today. I told her the only reason I came to MedVet was to see the ophthalmologist. The doctor said that she could not refer Aslan to an ophthalmologist, but would not say why. I asked for my cat back and told her that I would contact my veterinarian for a better ophthalmologist referral. My veterinarian believed this was urgent, which was why she referred Aslan to VetMed thinking I would be able to get into the ophthalmologist after intake. The intake person in the reception area should have told me there was no ophthalmologist available when I checked in. That would have prevented us from wasting two hours of vital time. Aslan was in trouble and I knew it. So they brought Aslan back to me, and she was very upset.. which is extremely unusual behavior for her. I have no idea what they did to her in that missing hour that resulted in so little information and a very upset cat. I contacted my veterinarian's office when I got to the car, and she set up an appointment with an ophthalmologist the same afternoon because she thought it was urgent. I informed her that my experience at MedVet was horrible and advised that they should never refer anyone to MedVet again. It was an awful experience for me and, more importantly, for my sweet cat. At the ophthalmologist that afternoon, I discovered that Aslan does not have glaucoma or cataracts. She does have bleeding behind her eyes caused by hypertension (high blood pressure). I've know about the possibility of hypertension because she is 18 years old and has been under treatment for chronic renal disease for a few years. We have been monitoring her blood pressure which up until today had been normal. There is a chance that with lowering her blood pressure, her eyesight could come back. There was no need for urine analysis or bloodwork at this time. I will never go into a MedVet again. There are far better options. read more

I cannot say enough good things about MedVet. I wish we could use them for our regular vet visits. On 2/4/25. I had to rush my cat in for respiratory distress. I hoped it would only be pneumonia as she had never been sick before and that could possibly be managed. They took us immediately. However, after oxygen and x-rays, it was clearly much worse. She was filled with emphysema all over her body and had a mass on her trachea. I was faced with the horrible choice on whether to let her go or not. She was only 8 years old and I couldn't make this decision without my partner. They let me go pick him up from work and bring him back. The vet kindly went through everything again so he had all the facts. We made the decision, with the help of the vet, to put her to sleep. There was absolutely no pressure. They gave us a comfortable room and brought her in, wrapped gently in towels. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted and, when it was time to let her go, the process was quick and as comfortable as can be expected, for both her and us. We were offered several options for memorials, paw prints and clippings. We chose a private cremation with urn and asked for clippings. We were called by MedVet three days later that we could pick everything up. All of it was carefully wrapped in a velvet bag and a memorial card held her clippings. Not only was a sympathy card enclosed, but we received one specifically from MedVet a few days after that. Because we are not well off, we were so grateful when they brought in a folder (including pamphlets on griefing a pet) with the invoice. Everything included came to only $1000. I've had regular yearly vet visits cost half that much. This might be helpful to other concerned pet parents. We will be ever grateful that MedVet was there for us at one of the worst moments in our lives. read more

I took my cat here a couple of years back during Covid because at midnight, she started vomiting and crying in pain. I've never been to an animal ER before. I Uber over there, and all the doors are locked, and I can see an empty waiting room with chairs through the windows. The waiting room is not available during covid. They have some plastic lawn chairs outside but mind you it's 1:00am and it's winter and snowing and like 10 degrees outside. I'm cold and scared and frantic bc I don't know what's wrong with my cat, and I'm locked outside in the cold in the other end of town in the middle of the night. There's a security guard, and I knock on the locked door. He won't open the door or speak a word to me. He just points to a sign to call a number, and he looks mean. I call the number, wait on hold forever, and finally get someone. We talked for about half an hour about her history and what was wrong, and then she told me they could see me in 12 hours! I'm at an ER and can't be seen for 12 hours and can't wait in a waiting room. Her normal vet opens at 7am... so I Uber back and call my vet at 7 am and get an appointment right away. I will never go back here again. read more

The first emergency vet we took her to was ready to do surgery immediately, and I'm so glad we went to the specialists at MedVet for a second opinion. Dr. Schnabl was so kind, thoughtful and compassionate with Tiger's care -- he took the time to speak to us multiple times a day and work through various options to try to avoid surgery (which, so far, has been effective). He was transparent in laying out his recommendations, and it really felt like he cared so deeply about trying to help us make the right decisions. MEDVET NEGLIGENCE & INCOMPETENCE KILLED MY DOG. On 9/29/24, my beloved dog Patrick was hospitalized in the ER to be monitored for respiratory difficulties/distress after a mucous plug blocked his airway earlier in the day. A treatable condition he was diagnosed with days earlier left him at an elevated risk of such obstructions. Close monitoring & delicate care was needed as he awaited an appointment with a specialist the next day to begin treatment. An evening update let me know Patrick had done well all day and could go home. I arrived to pick him up, and after waiting almost an hour, he was brought out. Patrick exited treatment held by a tech from across the lobby; I could see that he was choking. Upon approach, it was clear he was already in extreme distress. Struggling in the tech's arms, gasping for air, excessively salivating, gums completely white. I said he was not breathing well and needed a vet. I was told he was cleared for discharge as the oblivious tech began reviewing discharge instructions. Again, I said he was choking and needed help. Patrick's terrified eyes were wide with panic as he thrashed about. I was told he was just happy to see me. Repeated pleas for help were met with blank stares from the tech & receptionist, precious minutes wasted. It was horrifying & surreal. An employee across the room finally ran over and rushed him back for aid. It was too late. Almost as soon as he made it back to treatment, his heart stopped. The vet who informed me of his death did not care for him during the day, admitted they were not very familiar with his case, and could not answer my questions with any certainty. Thousands of dollars were charged for MedVet to monitor my Patrick and render aid if needed. Records should have been sent to his regular vet immediately. After repeated requests, records sent two days later DID NOT INCLUDE THAT HE PASSED AWAY. More calls questioning why his death was not recorded initially in his record resulted in "updated" records being sent. Patrick's risk of developing another airway obstruction was high, needing constant monitoring. Record reviews indicate he was only checked every 1-2 hours, with one gap in monitoring of 5 HOURS while there. The process of retrieving his remains was even more delayed and mistake-riddled. There is no doubt his death was due to gross negligence. The INEPTITUDE of a tech not recognizing the difference between an excited dog and a distressed one is mind-blowing. The lack of concern and care expressed by the vet, who declared him deceased, was chilling. No follow-up, outreach, or apology from MedVet after the event. There was no acknowledgement that PATRICK WAS PRESENTED AS STABLE AND READY FOR DISCHARGE IN MORE GRAVE CONDITION THEN INITIALLY BROUGHT IN. I left MedVet that evening, not with my treasured companion as expected, but with a million "what ifs," and the horrible image of my dog's terrified, panicked face burned into my brain as he struggled and suffered through his last moments of life that will haunt me forever. My final memory of him was his eyes desperately pleading for help in a building filled with people who should have helped him but did not. I pray my sweet boy can rest in peace because he certainly did not die in peace at MedVet. It's hard to fully describe all the ways MedVet failed Patrick in the character limit allowed here. Inevitably, after-hours or urgent care is needed several times a year. I've experienced an alarming decline in quality of care since MedVet acquired Chicago Veterinary Emergency Services. Experiences in recent years have gone from bad to worse, culminating in this horrific, traumatizing event. I rue the day that I left my beloved Patrick in their care and recommend avoiding MedVet ER at all costs. Do not be fooled by the swanky aesthetics. This is an unprofessional facility that cares more about profits than quality care. Cost of care certainly does not = quality here. read more

Took my dog there for Physical Therapy after ccl surgery, done elsewhere, and they immediately said the surgery had to be redone by them. I went back to the hospital that did the surgery in the first place and mentioned their concerns and multiple X-rays at great cast to me showed everything was normal. They are lying crooks that try to upsell you at every opportunity. I prepaid for five therapy sessions which they refused to refund. Avoid at all costs.
