The short review: my baby girl is now gone, and Oz Animal Hospital and MedVet did nothing to help her. Two weeks ago, I took my cat to Oz Animal Hospital to see Dr. Bruner for what I thought was an ear infection. Instead, I was told she had a "mass" with a secondary infection. A tissue sample was taken and sent to pathology. We were sent home with antibiotic ear drops intended for dogs (used off-label on my cat) and told we'd need to see a surgeon or dermatologist. The biopsy came back inconclusive because it was dead tissue. Meanwhile, those drops began affecting her inner ear almost immediately. Within three days, my sweet girl was losing her balance and acting completely unlike herself. I then went to MedVet Chicago to see Dr. Wyatt, hoping for urgent care. He examined her and admitted he wasn't sure there was even a mass, but his recommendation? A series of tests and surgery totaling $11,000. I stopped him and said, "No one has treated the infection. Can we please start there?" I requested a bacterial culture and an antibiotic injection. He took the culture but refused the injection, saying systemic antibiotics aren't typically effective for ear infections and that topical treatment would be better. He said that he would call with results. Two days later, he called with preliminary results and said he'd call again five days later (after Labor Day) with the full report and a treatment plan to get us started while we waited to get into a dermatologist elsewhere (earliest was October 8). I asked again for an antibiotic injection, and again, I was told to wait. Meanwhile, my cat was declining rapidly. When her condition worsened, I called Oz Animal Hospital sobbing for help. None of their three locations could see her. I asked if she could at least get an antibiotic injection, and they told me to contact MedVet. So between two supposedly reputable veterinary providers, I was told to wait, to go elsewhere, and to do nothing while my baby's life slipped away. Yesterday, she passed away in my arms. And it didn't have to happen. What did I learn? That Oz Animal Hospital and MedVet Chicago failed my cat at every step. No urgency. No compassion. No basic care. Just expensive recommendations and passing the responsibility back and forth. If you value your pet's life, please do not trust these clinics. Ask hard questions. Demand action. Don't assume these people will do what's right for your pet. They didn't for mine.

    On our way home.

Huge thank you to the team at Medvet. My senior pup was suffering from pneumonia aspiration and was rushed to medvet from our vet as she was not breathing well without oxygen support. My poor girl barely made the 15min drive as she was struggling to breathe. Upon arriving the team was quick to respond and also provided a special waiting room and social worker to make sure i was also being supported in this extremely emotional and stressful process. Doctors were compassionate and thorough through her whole 2 day stay in ICU. They were communicative in every step and made sure i felt confident in all the next steps of her treatment without making me feel like i was being pressured or taken advantage of financially in such a traumatic time. After 2 days in ICU, my tough girl pulled through and was able to come home to rest and recover. I truly believe they did everything to bring her home to me and genuinely care about their patients as well as their owners. They created a safe place to feel and stay positive while also being realistic and leading with empathy. Additionally, facilities were clean and professional just as any human hospital should be. My babygirl is now on the road to a speedy recovery. Thank you to the team at Medvet for saving my best friend.

This review is exclusively for the end-of-life services that we utilized at MedVet on California Ave. We did not utilize any other veterinary or specialty services. We were also not previously a customer here. We knew that the time had come for our beautiful 16-year-old pit mix, Odie, to cross the Rainbow Bridge just a few days ago. When we woke up in the morning, it was very obvious that this was going to be her last day. She was struggling and suffering so much that we reached out to our local neighborhood Facebook group for recommendations of where to take her. We were recommended MedVet multiple times. Our family is glad that we chose this particular practice. First of all, if you, like us, find yourself in need of end-of-life services for your pet, I highly recommend this location. The room that they will take you to is NOT an exam room. It has a couch and a couple chairs. There is enough space for your whole family to be there. It is roughly a 12x14 room They have plenty of tissue boxes as well. They did not limit how many people we had in the room for the euthanization. For the record, there were 4 of us. We asked them if there was a limit for how many people could be in the room and they said absolutely not. They were so kind to us. So respectful in the way that they spoke to us. It was about $450 to put our 80 lb dog to sleep, receive her remains afterwards, along with a memorial footprint in clay. That cost was so much lower than the five other places that we reached out to. Not to mention our attempt to have it done at home, which the bare minimum for that would have been $750. The room is clean, roomy and comfortable. They will provide you a blanket to lay on the floor if you do not bring something for yourself. They absolutely allow you to bring your pet's blankets or your pet's bed with you if you would like and there is plenty of room in there to lay that down. The vet came in and asked our permission for every. single. thing. she did. Asking us if we were ready, before each individual step that she did. We did not feel rushed in any way. After the euthanasia, there is a doorbell on the wall inside the room that you can push when your family is ready for your pet to be taken out of the room. They give you the option to watch your pet be placed on the gurney and removed from the room, or you can elect to leave your pet with the vet tech and your family can leave the room before that happens. It's 100% based on what works best for your family. But there is no rush. You are welcome to have locks of hair cut by the vet tech and given to you in a keepsake bag for no extra charge. They created three separate keepsake bags for us and we were not charged anything for that. All you have to do is ask. They were absolutely wonderful to us. We could not have asked for better. The staff was kind, quiet, calm, respectful and accommodating. We just wanted to let others know, if you are looking for end-of-life services for your pet, this location would be a wonderful choice, especially if you cannot afford the incredibly expensive in-home euthanization. Thank you MedVet Chicago. You made a very heartbreaking situation more bearable. We appreciate you!!

Brought in my puppy on Friday, December 12th, at 5:30pm after my regular vet told me "Yeah, we close here soon so we can't help you". I called ahead and the receptionist was very helpful. She even made sure I knew where to park so I don't have to stress over this. When I got to the clinic they told me right away to bring my puppy in the treatment room. Vet Tech Stacey, Dr. Mettenburg and Dr. Rushing took exceptional care of the puppy (and me). I was so baffled I could stay with him the entire time. After 3 long hours we were ready to go home and Fletch is going to be a-okay. While I wish I had met this amazing team under different circumstances, I am thankful I trusted my gut and went to this ER. Highly recommend VEG Lincoln Park.

The ER vet spent less than 5 minutes looking at my dog, admitted he was not a certified surgeon, and told me he could stitch up the wound but wouldn't likely be able to reattach the tendon. Since my dog was bearing weight on the paw, it would "probably" heal okay. Had me wait in the waiting room for a "treatment plan". They texted me a treatment plan of $1500 to do the stitches! I refused and told them I'd be going to my regular vet the next morning instead. They still charged me $200 for the "evaluation" they spent less than 5 minutes on. What a rip off!!!! I asked for a discount since the evaluation was so brief and they refused.

Last week we had a major scare and were transferred over to VSC from VEG, and upon our arrival they were already expecting us and were able to take our pup in and get her situated since she was in so much pain. Once we were in the room they walked us through best case scenario, and worst case scenario. To admit, they require the deposit for the minimum amount. The staff made sure to explain and present our options after evaluating the severity of our girl. We were able to walk out knowing what will and could happen. Before we left we were taken to the back to see our girl, and were offered visiting hours and the ability to call and check in with updates at anytime. The nurses were so nice and treated our girl so well that when it came time for us to say good night or bye for now she walked off without hesitation knowing they were going to take care of her. We've been in and out for a few different reasons since this trying to figure out the right dosing to help our girl heal, and to keep her comfortable and healthy. We were able to call in the middle of the it with questions and if we should bring her in or if there was something we could do at home to keep her comfortable. Each time we came in we were welcomed, headed and taken care of. We worked with a few different doctors over the course of the last week and were really glad to see how much attention and care they put into each pet and our girl. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. You never know what could happen until it does. They will talk through all the possibilities and give you your choices. While the place was huge and clean,…read moreI did appreciate the quickness that my dog was seen given his crucial circumstance- they took him right away. I entered the establishment around 9am and didn't leave until sometime in the afternoon. My baby had a provisional diagnosis of chf and was prescribed medication to help him. We were given multiple options of how we wanted to proceed which is nice. We ended up choosing to have him come home on outpatient meds and had some X-rays done. I'm not gonna lie--this place is pricey and the way they do things is...interesting. We opted to get our medications within the community rather than through the e.d directly and the e.d doctor we worked with, Dr. Jacob Fischer, was kind. However, there was an incident which made me a little frustrated and not trust this place when the doctor wrote the script for the medications and when we went to get them filled at an outside pharmacy, the dosage that the doctor wrote was incorrect. Dr. Fischer wrote for a 1.5mg dosage when he meant to write 2.5mg dosage. Thankfully, the pharmacy tech at the outside pharmacy recognized this error as they didn't carry 1.5mg tablets for that particular medication, only 1.25mg, 2.5mg and 5mg. The pharmacy tech called the e.d and spoke to Dr. Fischer to gain clarification in which Dr.Fischer confirmed that he meant to prescribe 2.5mg rather than 1.5mg. Learning that Dr. Fischer made this mistake was alarming because I am paying this place for their services and if they are prescribing medication that would potentially save my baby's life then I would hope and actually assume that the doctor would be doing his job correctly because guess what? If it's incorrect, it could have cost my puppers his life. Thank God for the community pharmacy technician catching this error. Otherwise, I am grateful for the medications that were prescribed for my baby as they are helping him but I am not happy with the error that was done by the e.r physician. Maybe they need to give more critical cases to more seasoned veterinarians who have more experience on all forefronts instead of those who just graduated veterinarian school from 2023 and more recently. Allowing more seasoned veterinarians to work on critical cases like my baby's can ensure that our animals are properly taken cared of and the mediations that are prescribed to them are done so accurately. The pharmacy tech who took care of my baby, I forgot her name but she was amazing. She was the one who had told me to check out other places in the community for his medication because you could definitely get it cheaper than what they charge there and I love that. This techs heart was definitely in the right place. The receptionists in the front were decent but at times, it seems like they were more interested in talking to each other instead of taking care of those that were walking in. For those of you who would like to go here, they do have a plethora of services but i would definitely do your research. Again, I am grateful that they were able to take care of my baby but as for follow up care, I think I will be sticking with our normal vet. Please enter this establishment at your own risk and don't say i didn't warn you.

I called ahead of time to check on pricing for the exam, etc., and one of the Vets answered and was so kind and patient while I explained what was going on. She reassured me they would walk me through a treatment plan we could handle after I brought her in. When I got there, I was met with the warmest, kind, helpful energy from every single person who worked there. From the person who did our intake, to the techs who did her initial vitals and administered her IV later on, (and cleaned up her mess on the way out - TY) to the Vet herself, I felt more than comfortable that they had my girls best interest in mind but were also realistic with what I could spend and how far we wanted to go with her care considering that she's 15.5 years old. After the vet examined her, I was sent a quote via email I could approve via my phone, and while I paid cash, they have an instant link you can pay for your services via credit card through email as well, which I found amazingly efficient and made what I was spending and what was included crystal clear so there was no anxiety about hidden costs. (I also found this place to be INCREDIBLY reasonable in their pricing compared to the other Vets I've gone to in the city). Special shoutout to the tech with the amazing mustache and the woman who administered her IV.... He was down on the floor, with my pup's head in his lap, petting her and saying the sweetest, most reassuring things while the other tech also just gave her such praise that we got some little exhausted tail wags out of her during what couldn't have been a comfortable process. It was just what we both needed in that moment, so thank you both so, so much. I was calm but pretty emotional, and I just felt safe coming here and would 100% come here again if needed, and recommend that anyone facing something like this with their fur baby come here too. The entire experience was quick, efficient, and again.... the kindness and genuine love they showed my baby was all I needed to know to feel comforted during a stressful moment. Happy to report the treatment she received has dramatically improved her condition in just a day, so overall it was a 10/10 experience.
