This is the second time I've taken a dog to VEG Oak Brook. The first time, I had excellent service, and my dog had great medical care. I ended up saving hundreds in medical costs, because the vet presented two treatment options; both were good for my dog, but one was much more expensive. I didn't feel pressured into choosing the pricier one. This time, my dog had a very unusual reaction to sedation once we left the office. We took him back, and they did two follow-up injections and administered iv fluids--at no extra charge. The reaction was not the vet's fault, they did a lot of extra care, and they didn't charge us for it. I very much appreciate that. Also, it's worth noting that the clinic triages each animal as they come in, making sure that the clinic tends to the sickest/most injured pets first. I value this approach; if my dog was in dire straights, I would want them to be seen right away. Plus, I don't mind waiting longer if my pet isn't in super-bad way, so other animals can get treatment quickly. read more

All of the patient care and waiting is done in one big room with all other animals and owners. It is loud and over stimulating for both animals and humans. They are very pushy about having as many tests at as high a cost as possible. read more

VEG is excellent. We brought our dog there. Dr Evens and her staff we're helpful and caring. Dr Even's explained everything they were doing to help our dog. She explained the options and the treatments. We didn't feel rushed. We had to make a hard decision. In the end the whole staff was very compassionate The clinic is clean, everyone was friendly. We visited the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) on Feb. 9th at midnight. Where Ava, our six-pound, eight-year-old Affenpincher, was treated like a Queen. Dr. Cowin diagnosed Ava with a UTI, enlarged heart, and constipation. Ava was given antibiotics and probiotics for her UTI and constipation. She'll be on the mend soon. Everybody at VEG was kind, accommodating, and compassionate, reassured us that everything would be alright, and treated us as if we were their first and only patient that day. This was our first time at VEG in Oakbrook and they took great care of my older dog, Sven. He wasn't eating, listless, and not acting right. I like the concept of open treatment areas where you can be with your pet all the time and you don't feel so isolated waiting. It was a long wait but that's because they get alot of urgent animals coming in so we expected that. Kim and Kelly were amazing, they both took great care of sven and treated him like he was their own. Kim is def the standout of our visit there. It was expensive but seeing as it was an emergency clinic, it wasn't a surprise at all. Would def go again if we had a pet that needed urgent treatment. read more

I brought our little Chihuahua (Sugar) in for an emergency. The staff immediately attended to Sugar and went to work. They conducted blood tests and X-rays to try and determine what was wrong with her. Due to her condition it was suggested that "Sugar" stay overnight in their care, where they could monitor her and continue her IV re-hydration and Meds. With a heavy heart I had to leave her in their care. The staff said I and my wife could come at any time and visit her. We purposely stayed away so we wouldn't further add to her anxiety if she saw us, before they were ready to release her. Around 830 pm we just couldn't stay away any longer and came back to the facility. We wanted to check on her, but didn't want to upset her if she saw us. The staff was so kind and put a video camera on her and let us view her remotely. This was, in our opinion, so above and beyond that it made such a positive impression on us. In crisis, sometimes the little things mean the most. I also noticed the same Doctor was still there from when I initially arrived at 800 AM, what dedication!. And I'd add, she was informative and kind and truly caring throughout our experience. We stayed and At 11PM we received great news; Sugar had stabilized and we could take her home! She wouldn't have to stay the night. We took her home with instructions and meds shortly thereafter. Since we had pre-paid for the overnight, we were informed that they would rebate us back the unused portion of our initial payment. I mean who does that?! We couldn't be happier in how our "Sugar" was attended to and the kindness and sincere concern we received from the entire staff. From the receptionist, to the Nurses and the attending Doctors. A little over a month ago my dog got sick for about 5 days straight. Since it progressively got worse (and I couldn't get a same day visit with my vet) I went ahead and brought him in just in case was something serious. Disclaimer: first time dog owner as an adult - also, I'm SO glad I got pet insurance right away! When you walk into the ER area it's a huge open room with tables and a few private rooms. Staff is walking around and always available. We were taken in immediately and assessed by the staff and a vet came over right away after. Shortly after the exams I received a text with all of the recommended treatment options and a cost breakdown (you can also pay online there as well). It's an emergency visit so of course it's pricy and I was expecting that. Had a few questions and was able to get them answered quickly. Within a little over an hour they did a few exams on my dog, X-rays, gave me the results from the X-rays after being interpreted, gave my dog fluids and an anti-nausea medication, took blood and got the results back and did a quick ultrasound. I also got the supplements I needed for my dog there. So EXTREMELY fast turn around time for everything! Unfortunately, they couldn't figure out what exactly was wrong with my dog but luckily, within a few days afterwards, he did start to get better. They also sent all the notes from the visit to our vet's office so I didn't have to go over anything when I had to follow up. Overall, I felt like my dog was well taken care of and thought the staff did a great job. Very efficient and thorough. read more

I have never seen a place like this before. We were able to be with our wounded pet for the entire visit to the ER, see all the procedures, and comfort him the entire time. There was a waiting room too with snacks and drinks. And every staff member and the vet herself were so caring and patient. Humans and pets alike were cared for. 08/24/2025, ~3:30 PM - Brought 7-month-old puppy to Veterinary Emergency Group. Paid $205 upfront for diagnostics. Puppy found to be ill and in distress. Required to pay additional invoices ($416, $158, $719.03) before further tests were performed. No diagnosis provided. At ~11:00 PM, sent home with sick puppy. At 2:30 AM, returned when puppy stopped breathing. Staff put us in the euthanization room where there was chocolate ( give your puppy their last kiss) a book ( say your last goodbye) & within minutes presented only three options: (1) pay $6,000-$10,000 upfront for treatment, (2) euthanize for $450, or (3) surrender to Small Hands, NFP. The nurse who is now the foster mom to my dog is the same nurse who brought us the number and paperwork to this cruel organization. Under distress, I surrendered the puppy after being assured I could receive updates and potentially reclaim her. After Surrender: Puppy immediately received blood transfusion and surgery( blood was provided by the same nurses dog who handed us the paper work to surrender our puppy) Updates limited to Facebook, despite assurances otherwise. When I attempted to pay outstanding invoices within 4-hours to reclaim my puppy, both the ER and Small Hands gave conflicting information and denied access. Veterinary Emergency Group refused to provide me with copies of the documents I signed, instructing me to obtain them from Small Hands organization Only after posting publicly did the ER manager call to say invoices were voided, yet Small Hands continues to withhold my puppy. Please see screen shots of the conversation from Small Hands- who not only called us ignorant but said we should have euthanized our puppy. I am the one blue where I was given false hope and today when I asked for an update I was given this cruel nasty response. read more

Could not have asked for a better team to help my dog while dealing with such a traumatic, frightening experience. My dog had two seizures for the first time ever. After the first seizure, they recommended hospitalizing him, but I elected to bring him home for comfort and cost, and bring him back if there's a second seizure. They weren't pushy or judgemental whatsoever with my decision to bring him home, which can be commonly experienced at other vets. He had a second seizure and was brought back to be hospitalized and they were incredibly kind and caring throughout the entire process. I was bawling my eyes out the first time I came in and everyone was comforting while allowing space, it was the perfect medium. They allowed me to stay as long as I wanted and told me to come back anytime to visit, even offered to let me sleep on the couch next to him so he wouldn't be alone. They asked if my dog had food allergies so they could give him treats and were very diligent about avoiding his extensive food allergies, which I really appreciate. My dog LOVES going on walks but when I came to visit and walk him during his 24 hr hospitalization, he would go for a short walk then stubbornly wait at the door to go back inside the vet office lol that's how I know they treated him well!!! The doctors were very helpful with all my questions and helped me find a neurologist, one went out of her way to make some calls to find an appointment for me and more. All the doctors and staff are so so so incredibly compassionate and hardworking. Can't imagine the emotional and mental toll working in this field, major props to them. It takes good hearted people for this work. I wish people would never need veterinary emergencies but if it happens, I would wholeheartedly trust and recommend coming to this VEG clinic. We are watching our daughter's dog for the summer. He had been licking his butt a lot, and I noticed he licked the fur off. For 2 days he was having trouble pooping, and it seemed he was in pain. I contacted VEG early Saturday morning, and got the poor fellow right over there. They saw him right away - no waiting around. He has an abscessed anal gland - which they drained. He is on antibiotics and doing much better. The staff and doctor were extremely supportive. It is great that I was able to stay with him until they did the procedure - that he wasn't carted off to a room somewhere out of sight. Our little guy is doing much, much better. read more

Unfortunately we had to bring our beagle in as he was very sick. From the moment we walked in the staff at VEG Oak Brook were compassionate, professional, and empathetic. Their medical treatment was prompt and comprehensive. We had our own private room to stay with him overnight while he was getting an IV. Despite their best efforts our beagle's condition didn't improve and bloodwork indicated he was septic. Our worst fears were realized in that our time with our beloved companion were coming to an end. This is a terrible feeling that I wish no one would have to experience, but unfortunately we all will be in this moment one day. This place is filled with amazing and caring staff. My family and I took our dog there when he wasn't feeling so good and they immediately saw him and started treating him, we received some bad news but the staff was so incredibly kind and supportive, they came around with waters and snacks and would check up on us. They even gave us a room for privacy. All the test results came back and they went over it thoroughly and we truly felt like they cared and sympathized with us. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE! If I could give this place zero stars I would! I waited to post this because I was extremely upset with this facility and how me and my dog were treated. I'm starting to think all these positive reviews they have are fake. I went back in October for my dog who was EXTREMELY jaundice. I spoke with someone over the phone about the situation and how me and my family had to wait to bring our dog to our local vet because they were closed. They advised us to come and that we would be taken care of, THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. As soon as we arrived we waited for someone to come out into the waiting area and check my dogs temperature. When they finally did I was advised that my dog did have a very high fever and that she would be seen by someone soon. After waiting 35-40 minutes they finally came to the front to get us. When they brought us in back they put us in a room behind the vets in the back that looked like a closet and left us there for the next couple of hours. We waited and waited and waited and anytime I asked what was going on we were told we'd be next in line. Fast forward 3-4 HOURS LATER after getting very frustrated some vet tech with long blonde hair came up to the door didn't even come in let alone introduce herself to check on my dog look at my dog check any vitals NOTHING! just asked if my dog had had any vaccinations recently. I told them yes they were up to date and got a smirk and a laugh stating that's not what she asked" then with what info we had from our local vet we gave to the vet tech and continue to wait another hour until the vet tech came back and said okay the dr will be in with you shortly but first their going to send you a text to confirm payment before" how does that make any sense? I've worked in the vet field before and never have I seen a vet charge before even seeing the pet. My dog was LITERALLY DYING! These people didn't care!!! We checked to see what was going on the vet techs and drs were just standing around eating their lunch laughing! It wasn't like there was a dire situation that needed to be tended to or a surgery going on they literally were just sitting around as many other people were waiting as well. We ended up leaving because we got there at 7 and didn't see ANYONE it was around 11 o'clock by the time the vet tech came to the door. We found out the next day after getting our dog into our local vet that she was dying and bleeding internally and yet against my better judgment I chose this establishment thinking they would've been able to help when it was just about the money. We had to put my dog down a couple days later and I'm so heartbroken thinking they could've possibly done something to help. I've had many dogs throughout my years and never have I ever went through something as traumatic as that night. To whoever is reading this PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE. My dog was dying and these people were just laughing chit chatting not a care in the world and these people are supposed to be the ones who care for our animals? This place should be shut down IMMEDIATELY! These people don't deserve their jobs. read more

I really wish I wasn't writing this review as the desk people were so kind, however i do think people need to be aware and cautious bringing their pet here, especially cats. I bought my cat in for lack of appetite and lethargy, and after being asked to pay close to 2k UPFRONT, for xrays, blood work, a urinalysis and an IV, the vet told me that there was nothing of concern for my cat and to take him home and watch him for a few days, recheck him on monday. My cats condition did NOT improve, and upon taking him to another vet to be rechecked, they repeated the xrays and told me that my cat needed abdominal surgery. this was not a new condition, and had shown up on the original xrays, but i was told by VEG Oakbrook that there was nothing of concern on the xrays. Please please please, be cautious and follow your gut instinct if you bring your pet here, as the cost is outrageous for such a concerning lack of care and direction. I left my appointment feeling shaken down for money, and my cat did not feel any better. read more

Overall, my experience at VEG was very good compared to visits at other emergency vets. What differentiates VEG was the open triage area which ensured absolute transparency into not only the available staff but into the other cases the staff was dealing with at the time you're there. This seems to have the effect of ensuring those that are in there know how long they'll be waiting and why. In my case, I brought in a dog with symptoms of a UTI and, while there, family members of much sicker dogs, a chicken, a guinea pig, etc. came and went, and I absolutely understood when I had to wait. This said, though a busy area, the time spent there was not long considering. They have an effective and immediate triage system and a transparent diagnosis/treatment/expense system that ensures that you're not blindsided. They also seem to be attentive to both the patient and the caregiver - making sure someone regularly makes rounds to see if anyone needs water or snacks. While this last detail is unimportant relative to the quality of care of one's pet, it does differentiate them. Whether the costs are more expenses relative to other emergency vets, I don't know for sure, but having had to bring my elderly dog into another place last year who required critical care and ultimately passed away ... at a cost of almost $3k ... I would say that it's comparable. I do have pet insurance and when I submit a claim, I'll know whether their cost is outside of norm. The only reason I gave four stars and not five is that the person who administered shots to my dog seemed not only inexperienced but lacked confidence. As a result, the positioning was very awkward, my dog (and I) was stressed, and I believe they weren't administered very well based upon my dog's whelps. (I go with her to my regular vet and she doesn't react similarly to shots, however I'm not sure she's received an intravenous shot like these either, so I understand they're trickier.) This said, just a heads up to VEG that they could makes these less stressful/painful maybe with a more skilled person administering and being more conscientious of better positioning with the dog. All this said, if faced with another emergency situation, I'd likely return. But let's hope there's no reason to! read more

Taking a pet to the emergency room is never fun, but the care we received at Veterinary Emergency Group was amazing. I had to take my puppy in a few weeks ago and was immediately greeted by the most compassionate staff who took incredible care of my pup. They gave him cuddles while he got his testing done and the best part is I could stay in the room during his exam. Thought this was a full service emergency vet . Brought my dog in with what we thought was pneumonia. They took an x-ray and we had to wait an hour for someone to read it . They give him a sedative while we waited . Results came back with what looked like a lung lobe torsion. At that point they charged me $900 for an x ray and sedative shot ( that didn't work) only to tell me that I had to go somewhere else for a CT scan and possible surgery. Such a frustrating experience. read more
