I had to bring my dog in over the weekend due to breathing issues. The front desk woman attended me quickly and with such care and compassion. Doctor Eisele and her assistant were so wonderful and kept me updated / explained clearly what they were doing. They gave me a chair to sit next to my baby and I got to see the doctors and staff assist other pets which was also comforting in a way. They were super gentle and sweet with my senior pet and I'm so thankful I was referred here. My baby is alive and doing well thank you Dr Eisele and team!

Super kind and helpful staff! Brought my cat Peter in for a visit and they were very helpful in explaining and answering all my questions and concerns. Very open about pricing, gave us a low and high pricing estimate for specific testings, made us feel very comfortable about whichever route we took. Peter did not want to go back into his cage, so they let us go in a room so he can wander freely :) We came on a Sunday at 10AM and the wait time was not bad, very quick and attentive staff.

I consented to $700 worth of treatments but VEG surprised me with an extra $400 bill of unnecessary treatment as I walked out the door.

My experience here was absolutely wonderful until the last few minutes. VEG really gives the impression that they care a lot about consent and transparency and care for my pet, and they were very gentle and sweet with my dog, but the experience ended up being more like going to a used car dealership. I am aware that emergency veterinary visits are expensive. I budgeted for that and walked into emergency care with the knowledge that it would be expensive. Money was tight for me at the time, but I knew it was important to prioritize my pet. While I was there, the vet and the technicians were great with my dog, who had violently bloody stool. I had a great conversation with the vet, who recommended tests to rule things out. I agreed to them, and they brought out a tablet with a breakdown of services and costs and asked me to consent to the treatment and costs. Yes, it was more than it would be if I had gone to his regular vet, but I was prepared for that because this was an ER. The total was $700 for the visit and the x ray and I was perfectly happy to pay that. I confirmed that on their tablet. After the tests ruled out anything serious, he was cleared to go home. The vet came in and told me they also "gave" him some Cerenia for nausea "just in case" and fluids to make up for dehydration, as well as a probiotic. I had a pack of Cerenia and Forte probiotics at home so I could have given him that on my own, but they had already administered it to him in the other room. I thanked them, took my dog, and headed out. As I was leaving, the receptionist halted me and told me I had to settle the balance. This was confusing to me, because I had already paid for the test and the visit. Turns out, they had added some costs that I had *not* consented to - an extra $400 for the Cerenia, fluids, and probiotic. I could not turn down these costs, because they had already been administered, even though I had these items at home. By the way, 3 Cerenia were less than $20 purchased from my regular vet (who already charges more than online), and VEG charged me $158.32, and 14 priobiotics are less than $10, while VEG charged me $98.95. The fluids were intravenous, but he wasn't even dehydrated and I had pet electrolytes at home as well which had been given to me his vet. And more important than the price is the fact that I hadn't even consented to these items because I had them at home. Later I called VEG and also emailed them, politely expressing how uncomfortable I was with the situation and asked them to review it. They ignored both my messages - there was not even an acknowledgment of my concern. I am giving an extra star because, after all, they did provide needed veterinary care for my pet and were available when we needed them. But I think my experience with their billing practices (as well as their complete contempt when I reached out to them afterwards) has seriously undermined my trust with them. There are only two pet ERs in the city, so they get away with a lot, but I would beware when you walk in because they are extremely dishonest and manipulative about their policies and will take advantage of someone who is worried about their pets welfare.

    Really nice facilities

Sadly, we are back for a second time in a few months - this time due to a big dog attacking our little pup. The first time we brought our pup in was for some pain he was dealing with. And my husband was so complimentary of how kind the staff was and how efficient the process was when they returned home. They examined our pup and then gave us a quick review and cost estimate of the recommendation medical treatment before proceeding with care. This time, I experienced the same kind and efficient care and it put my heart at ease after a pretty traumatic event. The facilities are clean and up to date, and the staff are really responsive, comforting and knowledgeable. Thankful this place is here! We live in Kenwood/Hyde Park area and it's nice to not have to go way north for an emergency visit when our neighborhood Vet isn't open or available.

If I could give VEG 100 stars, I would gladly do so. My Cane Corso stopped eating 2 days before I decided that it was time to take her in for a simple emergency examination. What a place! Due to my pet's often uncomfortable reaction to other dogs, and the hospital's shift change, we were placed in a private waiting room where we were attended by the nurse/caretaker until the doctor was able to come speak with us. What can I say about Dr. Roundy?? After feeling my baby's belly, she immediately rolled the ultrasound machine into the room so as to not disturb our Duchess too much. Dr. Roundy, with the utmost gentleness and compassion, shared the grim news. A tumor in the spleen and intestines. We had to make a tough decision that no one expected that day. My Duchess pranced in like a majestic black stallion, and by the time she realized that she needn't keep up appearances any longer we were placed in a candle lit room, with a soft dog bed and an immaculate fuzzy blanket to keep her comfortable. (We were even offered a jar of Hershey's kisses.) You could see the (large) staff's faces expressing sadness and some shock for this unexpected outcome. No one saw this coming upon our arrival. Least of all me. We were encouraged to take our time with her and were given a small remote control pad to ring for when we felt ready. I was allowed to lie beside her. I took her into my arms and held her head near my heart and the propofol was gently administered for what was to come next. Why am I sharing this story? Because I want VEG and it's wonderful staff to know of their valuable kindness and professionalism during a very difficult time there and for you the reader to know that there is no better place in Illinois that will care for your pet. I hope that you never have to do something this, but if you do...the Veterinary Emergency Group is second to none. My Duchess felt their love, even if only if only for a few brief hours before leaving me forever. Thank you everyone for being there. P.S. The cost was surprisingly affordable even with a private cremation.

Dr. Eisele and the night team from 5/1-5/2 were exceptionally wonderful. We brought our dog in around 10:00 PM and she ended up needing an emergent procedure. Despite the circumstances we felt comfortable and at ease the entire time. The care my dog received was phenomenal and we are so glad this facility is in our neighborhood. I was able to stay by my dogs side the entire time minus the actual procedure but was still able to view the surgery from a window. Dr. Eisele even provided me with a chair that was tall enough to see through the window. We were initially told our dog might have to stay for 48 hrs after surgery but luckily her total stay was about 14 hours. However, had she needed to stay that long we would've been able to come and go no matter the time and be with our dog. They even said there was a room available for us to sleep in comfortably with our dog if needed. When it came to payment, they require money down but they were able to work with us and offer flexibility with the money we put down. Luckily we do have insurance so that played a part in the finances. After our regular vet received the records from VEG (super promptly) we were told by our regular vet that they wouldn't have been able to provide the same level of service as VEG due to limitations of the regular vet facility so it was a good thing we went to see VEG. Again we are so grateful to this team and for making a potentially traumatic experience into a manageable and comforting one. Our pup has been recovering phenomenally and although we thoroughly enjoyed the services provided we hope to never be back ;) (Also while we were waiting we witnessed two owners having to say goodbye to their babies and the empathy and kindness shown by the staff was felt as a bystander)

I had to bring my 15 year cat, Renée, in for Anemia after my primary vet (@ Broadway Animal Hospital - word of warning - stay away) caused some pelvic fractures while performing surgery. MedVet Doctors told me the positives doing something and also any negatives. For example the Anemia needed a transfusion (positive), but the pelvic fractures may have a leakage, which will effect have the transfusion may help (negative). They kept me informed during the 3 days, 2 nights (2 days & 1 night in ICU) she was there. The staff give great care for Renée and allowed me to visit her before and after my work days. The entire staff showed Renée empathy and mentioned how beautiful she is. You cannot ask for a more caring place for your four legged companion. Four stars were given and not 5, because I found that follow-up calls were badly handled even after I called them. And how they handled the Pathology (about the cancerous lump) information from my primary vet was definitely a negative. But after those two weeks, Renée is back to her routines of walking with me down a hallway (now with a limp), eating her daily meals, and just being a happy cat. Her positivity in dealing with all this is amazing.

After approximately $6,000 in veterinary bills and multiple procedures, Bunny's condition was not improved--in our experience, she was left worse off than when we started. We trusted Dr. Matos and MedVet with Bunny because we believed we were putting her in the hands of specialists who could help her breathe more comfortably. Instead, after everything Bunny was put through physically--the procedures, recovery, medications, repeated visits, and stress--she is still struggling with significant breathing noise and honking. Watching an animal you love go through invasive treatment only to end up worse is devastating. What makes this especially upsetting is that we followed the medical recommendations given to us and spent thousands of dollars doing so. At this point, even our regular veterinarian has advised us not to return to MedVet, and we are now pursuing another specialist for Bunny because her problems remain unresolved. I deeply regret allowing Bunny to undergo this course of treatment. I feel that she went through an enormous amount physically without receiving the outcome we were led to hope for, and our family has been left dealing with both the consequences and an approximately $6,000 bill. I am requesting that MedVet formally review Bunny's entire case and provide an appropriate refund for the care and procedures that failed to resolve her condition and, from what we have observed, left her worse. Bunny is not a bill or a case number. She is a beloved member of our family. We trusted this hospital and Dr. Matos with her health and quality of life, and I am profoundly unhappy with the result. I would strongly encourage anyone considering treatment here--particularly an invasive procedure--to ask extensive questions about expected outcomes, complications, alternative treatments, and what happens financially if the procedure does not improve the animal's condition.

We took our cat to Premier Vet Group, 3927 W Belmont Ave, Chicago; he was whisked to a back room due to open mouth breathing. We were periodically informed of costs for tests, etc. during our 5+ hours in their freezing cold facility. Eventually they determined, after bloodwork, xrays, ultrasound and more, our cat had asthma and should stay overnight for observation. The bill for Monday was approximately $1700 and it would be an additional $1800 for overnight observation. I declined the overnight observation, agreed to our cat being given fluids prior to taking him home, he had been sedated due to being upset with what was being done to him. It was decided that the prednisolone our cat received for pemphigus foliaceus should be increased and follow up with our vet. Once we took our cat home and he relaxed overnight his breathing improved a little but he was sneezing and his nose was congested. On Wednesday 07-08-2026 I spoke to our regular vet, she said I could pick up doxycycline for $13.00 to treat our cat for 6 days and bring him in 07-15-2026. Our cat's nose cleared up and he was generally back to normal by the time I took him in on 07-15-2026 and after the vet examined him she couldn't find a sign of asthma and we continued to reduce the amount of prednisolone back to what he had been on for his autoimmune condition. In the meantime Premier kept texting and emailing me for a review; I sent a message that before I left a bad review they should contact me, they never did. As a lifelong cat owner, I understand that tests need to be done but it is also important to listen to an owner and actually examine the animal, see that it's nose is congested and prescribe accordingly. I will NEVER return to "Premier" Vet Group or suggest anyone take their pet there. If necessary, I will chose an Emergency Vet that at the very least lets the owner be with their pet during a 5+ hour scary experience that probably made him worse overall because he was scared! I called extremely concerned that our 5 week old foster was not well and explained that the rescue was closed (it was 12 am) but the puppy seemed to be rapidly deteriorating health wise. Given we have no medical say over a foster, I was panicked. They assured me that we would figure it out together and to get there as soon as possible, ending the call with "please drive safe", showing their true compassion. They greeted us at the door and immediately got us in front of Dr Wayward (who was so kind, caring and a sincere person). They checked his vitals and rushed him into an oxygen chamber since his breathing was so poor. I sat panicked trying to find a way to connect with the rescue. Even after finding their information, I was there for over two hours and although I was scared, Ashley didn't let me feel alone in the situation. She sat with me and chatted to help calm me. It was like I was talking to a close friend but she was just a deeply genuine animal lover like I am, so we connected. You can tell everyone there cares so deeply for the loved ones you bring in. They helped me to advocate for the puppy to the rescue when they denied service/ they told me to take him home. They were able to relay the seriousness of the situation to a person who seemed like they were in over their heads at the rescue. They transferred our information and condition to the Buffalo Grove Veg ER so that he could remain on oxygen (instead of going home with me) from 3 am to the time the rescue opened at 630 am. Unfortunately, after so much hard work and attention, the rescue decided to euthanize that sweet little 5 week old puppy but I know his last few hours would have been so much more miserable without the team at VEG ER and VEG Buffalo grove, but that review won't come until all of the puppies are healthy, safe and adopted. I never want anyone to have a medical emergency for their pet but if you do, please trust their team to help you. Sorry this was so long but I truly hope the team working on the night of 8/16 // morning of 8/17 see this and know my immense gratitude. A special thank you to Dr Wayward and Ashley.

I had a hamster I paid $5000 to remove I thought permanently, or so I thought it was permanent, a malocclusion or tooth that grew straight backwards into the poor creature's skull and out its face. Nope, grew back worse than before and that poor thing died horribly. That said I am attaching my review for the Northfield location because I found a Yelp review helpful when desperate to save my dog. I feel about the same at this point with this location. So here it is: Ummm so.... I found Rockford Animal Hospital from right here on Yelp . This BluePearl is part of a Corporate thing that is only interested in money. I guess it is the NorthShore and we need to justify a big salary and high real estate for this place but yeah.... This is involving a creature who is part of your family.... The staff was very cold and sorry that quote was insane. I have also been to the BluePearl in Skokie. If you find yourself in a financial pickle and you can drive to these locations, obviously NOT an option in some emergency situations.....BUT if you can, check out these places: they are worth the trip. I have a dog who had a tick and ended up with an autoimmune situation. $3500 paid to BluePearl here for just an antibiotic but quoted $13,000 for antibiotics, testing a a few days stay which I could NOT afford at that time and we went on our way. 1. Delightful doctors, techs and office staff. They are wonderful!!! 2 hour drive 1 way. We will be driving back there next year for an annual checkup. 2. Premier Animal Emergency Hospital Ethos on Belmont in Chicago. This has been her "regular vet" since they have an internal medicine specialist since no one nearby seems knowledgeable about what her autoimmune situation is all about. Testing is much more affordable, kind and compassionate staff. I completely forgot this place did a crazy complicated surgery on my old JRT a decade and a half ago on his broken leg and involved 63 pins... My beloved dog literally ran full tilt on that leg until the day he died. 3. Rockford Emergency Animal Hospital in Rockford Illinois. My baby spent multiple nights over the course of a month when all of this started a few years ago to figure out what to do to help her. This is a 3 hour drive for me 1 way. Just to be clear, all of those visits and extended time staying many overnights with someone monitoring her extremely high fever, continuous IV, an entire panel of bloodwork antibiotic protocol and when that didn't work we went to steroids. This whole thing was a fraction of the $13,000 BluePearl quoted for just the little start. Even if you tag on the $1000 in missed tolls and hotel stay because I was in such duress driving hours back and forth in desperation to keep this sweet creature alive I think I might have gone a little over $5000. $13,000 would have wiped me out beyond imagination and would have ended up being a death sentence. All the visits to the 3 above places IN TOTAL over a few years has now have come to that $13,000 mark quoted way back and my dog is stable and thriving.

That kind of energy is comforting when you're trying to make the best decisions for your pet. What stood out most was how thoughtful, transparent, and judgment‑free the entire team was. They took the time to understand my lifestyle, what was realistic for me, and what would truly benefit my pet. They explained everything clearly and helped me feel informed rather than overwhelmed. There was never any pressure or sense of being upsold. They broke down what needed attention right away, what was ideal, and what was simply recommended. That level of clarity made it so much easier to prioritize. They even offered cost‑effective options--like sending me home with a short supply of medication now, but talking through more affordable long‑term options if the treatment needed to continue. It was obvious their priority was my pet's well‑being, not pushing products or services. The accessibility of their care model is unmatched. They have price for service options as well as membership plans. They walked me through the membership options with complete neutrality, outlining the pros and cons in a way that felt genuinely helpful. I ultimately decided not to pursue the membership and they were completely supportive. In fact, they helped me assess my dog's needs and what I typically spend, and agreed the membership might be more than I actually needed. That honesty meant a lot. One thing I've never seen at a vet--or any health‑related service--is the level of financial transparency they provided. Before anything was done, they showed me an itemized, step‑by‑step breakdown of every charge, what it covered, and why it was recommended. Seeing everything upfront made me feel respected and in control, not surprised or pressured. I left feeling supported, informed, and confident in the decisions I made for my pet. Sploot provided the kind of care that makes you feel like both you and your animal truly matter. I'm so grateful for their compassion, transparency, and integrity, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet.

They're doing their best for the animals, and I hope sharing my experience helps anyone considering adopting. We ended up with the sweetest little cat that we absolutely love! We first visited on a Thursday around 4 pm. After waiting about 10 minutes, we filled out a form about what kind of pet we were looking for. About 25 minutes later, a volunteer walked us through the facility. It's clear they're over capacity, there were animals even in the hallways and in the cat rooms the cats are kept in wall cages. You don't get much time to interact, so it's tricky to gauge temperament. We chose a cat we thought seemed sweet. She still needed to be spayed and microchipped, so we couldn't take her home that day. They couldn't give a clear timeline, but by Monday we got the call that her surgery was done. We picked her up Tuesday, which took about an hour of waiting. Adoption fees were completely waived (normally $65, which is already very reasonable), and the cost of her surgery and microchip were covered. Once home, she did come down with a URI, so we had to visit the vet and get her some meds, but she's doing well now. Overall, CACC is a great place to adopt from if you're patient and want to give an animal a second chance. The process isn't super streamlined, but the staff and volunteers clearly care, and you'll be helping an animal in need

While staying with a relative on the south side, my daughter and I encountered a very friendly,…read moreferal cat, who we fed regularly. Whenever we opened the back door to let our dog out, she would run in to the enclosed porch to look for a dark place to chill. We would escort her out and she would always come back. The next week we noticed whenever we let our dog out, she would always run under the house. One morning when my daughter was out back with our dog, she excitedly came back in and said there were 6 kittens under the house. Ahhhhh!!!! We took care of them for a couple of weeks but knew we couldn't keep them. I found a PAWS location but was referred to animal care and control. When I got there, there were a few people in line. A very brusque and unfriendly security guard immediately took my id and handed me a form to fill out. The wait was long and people had questions for the guard who was behind a locked door, but she quickly and rudely blew them off . This made everyone very angry and uncomfortable. I was told it was a "no kill" facility, but once I got inside, I became uncomfortable. Staff was very no-nonsense and there was a dude in a hazmat suit walking around pushing what looked like a laundry cart. What did that mean? I really don't know. They took the cats, gave them a couple of shots and put them in a cardboard box and sent me on my way. I left feeling kind of sad. And when I talked to a friend later, she informed me they were a "high kill" shelter and when I told her one of the staff members said it was "no kill" she laughed at me. I don't know.
