    calamari

major YUM! what a great way to end a Tuesday night after a long day of work. wish I could've caught the waitress's name (almost pixie-cut grey hair), but she was very personable and we got to share some laughs! Made sure to keep our waters full and consistently checked on us throughout our meal! calamari was absolutely excellent and pretty neat that they just lay them in the sweet thai chili sauce instead of having it on the side to dip! I wasn't too hungry after eating a couple hours before so I opted for a caesar salad (who knew that a couple years ago I had first found out they put anchovies in caesar dressing!?) ... anyways, added the blackened chicken and it was definitely a kicker (or should I say rooster?) I couldn't seem to quench my thirst but I'm not complaining! Accompanying date ordered the chicken francaise which I have never had, but I did try! What a wonderful flavor! I can't compare it to any I've had in the past but everything paired nicely and the rice on the side I forgot to capture after it had been dumped on the plate! we had a warm personality (very tall older gentleman) check on us twice, not sure if he was a manager, but also zero complaints as he stood a bit to chat the second time disappointed that we hadn't ordered dessert but were ready to head out, little does he know I was fully intending on it but I'm trying to behave!

Went here for Ramen Wednesday. Top notch! The crisp on the chicken, the layers of flavor in the broth, the cook on the eggs. This was next level. Well done chef.

Fun, impromptu ladies night out. The calamari was quite delicious. If I had had gluten free bread, I would have soaked up all the juices with it and wiped the plate clean. I did not ask for any, so I do not know if it is offered. The sea bass, lobster and risotto was perfectly cooked. It paired well with the 2017 chardonnay on the menu. It was also nice to be able to enjoy dessert as well. The chocolate desire dessert was gluten free. I devoured it even though chocolate isn't my typical dessert choice. The only disappointment was the side salad. It was okay. #glutenfree #glütensiz

Wonderful restaurant that features Italian food, but not limited to that alone. This restaurant has been on 422 for many years, and has a deserved reputation for turning out fine meals with excellent service. We were recently here in a party of seven people, and the orders were placed and served pretty quickly. We received plates of fresh Italian bread, olive oil and grated Romano cheese to eat while our meals were being prepared. Everyone in our party was happy with their selections. The meals selected were a salad with meatballs, veal Parmigiana with penne and a side salad, eggplant parmigiana and salad, steak salad, and angel hair pasta with shrimp, scallops, and lobster. Pastas were prepared perfectly... Al dente. The red sauce was delicious, as was the aolio. Nice atmosphere, great food and service, with reasonable pricing. Great dining experience!

The Mahoning Valley has no shortage of excellent Italian restaurants, but this one really sets itself apart from the rest. Vernon's is a small, locally owned and family operated restaurant that sets a high bar for Italian fare. It is located on the outskirts of Niles in an unassuming building that's easy to miss. When you first enter you are greeted by a hostess stand and are seated as quickly as possible. There is a long bar with a wide variety of choice brands and booths and tables are situated throughout. The interior is intimate with dim lighting and fosters a relaxing atmosphere. When I was seated I was greeted by my server and scanned the menu. Vernon's offers a variety of classic Italian, with a range of salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, chicken, beef, and seafood. I ordered a plate of Angel Hair Marinara and a bowl of Zuppa del Giorno (white bean soup). Complementary warm bread was brought to the table with a small bowl of herb infused olive oil. The bread was fresh and paired well with the dipping oil! The soup was a savory fusion of flavor that set the stage for the main course! The spaghetti was generously served and perfectly balanced, with a hearty sauce that complemented the angel hair. Lastly, the service was attentive and cordial and the server expresses a deep knowledge of the menu. Vernon's is not the only place to get great Italian food in the Mahoning Valley, but it's certainly among the best!

Entrees come with a choice of soup or salad; one friend had the wedding soup, while the other two of us upgraded to the Caesar for $2--well worth it. Generous portion, fresh crunchy lettuce, and both shaved and grated Parmesan. The dressing came on the side. Service was impeccable: water glasses never ran dry and empty plates/bread baskets were cleared before we noticed. The restaurant was busy, so food wasn't instant, but everything arrived hot and delicious with no complaints. The staff definitely deserve a shout out for anticipating our needs and taking such good care of us. The menu looks extensive (we didn't order drinks), and there's a separate seasonal drinks list with cocktails and mocktails. Seating includes a large dining room and booths that easily fit big family groups; the vibe was lively and welcoming. Portions are generous--many people including all three of us left with takeout boxes with leftovers. A couple of tips: make a reservation if you can--we arrived at 5:00 and luckily were seated right away, but there was a wait by the time we left 90 minutes later. Also, the place is very family‑friendly: they offered us a car‑seat carrier for the baby, which made the visit stress‑free. Highly recommend for great Italian food, solid portions, and warm service in Cortland.

The service is always impeccable. You never have to beg for anything. The servers are well trained. They come around regularly to fill drinks and genuinely care if you're having a good experience. Sadly, that type of service has mostly vanished most places. We had a wonderful female server. I unfortunately can't remember her name. She was upstairs yesterday with brown hair and a pony tail. Now to the food. They have a fantastic menu so you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My family and I have tried all kinds of things and loved them. It's our go to for celebrations. We started off with the fried artichokes which were crispy and delicious. They reminded us of the ones we had in Rome last year. My mom and I had the lemon pasta with shrimp. It was unbelievably good. You got tons of shrimp and the pasta was soft and melted in your mouth with the lemon. My husband loved his wedding soup and chicken Milanese. His family is Italian so he's hard on chicken cutlets. He said it was crispy and moist. It looked amazing but I didn't snap a photo since I was hungry. My cousin loved her eggplant Parmesan. She's also Italian and has been to Italy several times. That's her go to dish. It's always cooked perfectly. My other cousins got spaghetti and meatballs which they loved. The meatballs are huge and perfectly cooked. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. If you love Italian and know what good pasta is supposed to taste like, go to Leo's. The menu is big, with all the Italian pasta, veal and chicken favorites you could want, but also with an extensive seafood menu, steaks, chops and salads. Station Square is apparently a Youngstown institution as it was celebrating 40 years! The restaurant is incongruously attached to a Super 8 motel, but don't let that throw you. This place is big, but it is well run. The staff is friendly. I sat down and my server appeared promptly and my food came out quickly, even on a busy Friday night. I had the salad of tomatoes and peppers, which is exactly what it was with a little oil and vinegar. Nothing fancy, but good. I had the chicken Parmesan with angel hair pasta. Very good. I finished with a blueberry cheesecake, which was excellent. I also enjoyed a professionally made old fashioned. It all worked for me!

The problem is, the place was packed and is clearly a very popular restaurant here. To start, the service was great! Everyone was super friendly and fairly attentive. Moving on to food. We shared two appetizers, peppers in oil and fried Zucchini flowers. The peppers were ok but had just a low quality olive oil that made them seem greasy. I've had fried zucchini flowers many times growing up in an Italian household but these were the worst I've ever had. They were overstuffed, over battered, and again, greasy! Not sure why they offer this dish when you can't taste the flowers at all as they are overpowered by everything else. Next, I had Chicken Marsala. I've had chicken Marsala all over the world, have cooked it many times, and I absolutely love the dish. This version was unlike any other version I've ever had with the addition of a ton of peppers. The chicken was cooked properly but the sauce was gloppy, didn't taste like Marsala, and seemed like it was cooked by someone who doesn't understand that the best Italian dishes should be simple and not "overhanded". The chicken parmigiana was the best meal out of everything they made but unfortunately the spaghetti it came with had waaaaay too much sauce and the parmigiana cheese (which we had to ask for) seemed like the low quality stuff you can buy in a jar at the supermarket. I guess the overall impression was poor quality Italian food made with average quality ingredients. If you like Olive Garden, then you'll probably be happy here as it felt like this restaurant from the food to the decor is stuck in the early 80s. One other note - the prices were very reasonable but as many Italian places in the US are, they don't understand that the main principle of Italian food is high quality ingredients combined with simplicity.
