Does not seem like they really want to sell phones from this store ended up walking out. Previously had no issues with the store they let me buy a mobile hotspot and put it on my account. I went into this Verizon store to inquire about an upgrade. I had the iPhone 6s and was trying to decide between the 8 or 10 so thought I'd go in and get some in-person recommendations. The store was pretty quiet when I walked in with only a couple of customers. One of the customer service rep asked if I needed help, (I can't recall his name) so I told him I was looking to get an upgrade. I asked a few questions about the iPhone 8 & 10 and the entire time I felt rushed as if he had better things to do. He told me he was out of the iPhone 8 in store and that he only had the 10 available. I then asked if he could place an order online for me, and he said no, Verizon is out of the 8 everywhere. Umm...what?! I'm sorry but I don't believe that joke of a lie for a second. I went home that day and contacted Verizon customer support and proceeded to order the iPhone 8 through the chat service. No problem at all and the rep mentioned nothing about the 8 "out of stock". This could've been easily taken care of in store but your staff was clearly not there to help the customers. read more

Not open during the week...even corporate couldn't reach them. Prior to that I had brought some IDs to the store so that I could get my promised $20 Veterans Discount. There is no record that I was there and internal Verizon records do not have a copy of these government IDs. Lots of promises yet weeks later my phone bill is still screwed up and I am being charged over 100 more than the estimated phone bill. I made a complaint with FTC and FCC for cramming (charging more than they quoted and/or should charge.) Example of fraud: "buy one and get one free" is actually not a free phone but 24 months of credits on one phone. They have not given me Veterans Discount for over a year now. My bill is 329.00 for 4 phones--double what I paid on Sprint. Absolutely impossible to reach a live representative unless you wait hours and then they lie. Worst company ever. read more

People weren't kidding when they said there's a long wait at this Verizon location! It is large but they don't seem to have a lot of staff on hand, particularly on a weekend. Parking is at a premium too. We checked in at the door with Bob. Who also asked us the purpose of our visit. They didn't do that at Epping, so assuming they do a triage of sorts here. Swapping a phone perhaps doesn't rate as highly as a new purchase? So we waited, and wandered, and waited. Watched some staff cluster at times for little confabs. Then we noticed more people, who had come in after us, were getting served. We made eye contact with Bob a couple times but he didn't react at all. Finally, think it was around the hour mark, we went to ask how much longer. Turned out we had mysteriously fallen out of the queue on Bob's tablet. He couldn't account for the error and apologized. Said Vince could help us and off we went. Vince told us that I could have the phone I wanted (6-128GB in gold) shipped to us and then just mail the 6 plus back. Yes please! Hopes quickly dashed... He entered the order, but since the gold was back ordered and wouldn't ship until at least Dec 19th, I would have to turn in the 6 plus then and there and be without a phone until the other one arrived. No guarantee it would come when they said. Make life simple, just go for the silver 64 on hand and be done. Was going to stuff it in a case anyway. As we were leaving, Bob the Greeter, apologized again for the glitch. That was appreciated. Edit 12/14/14: within an hour of my review post, I received a PM from Ada in customer service. She apologized for the lengthy wait and said my comments were being forwarded to the store's Leadership Team to be addressed. I have been having a lot of issues replacing my phone prior to my visit. I finally received it and was unable to activate it. I dropped in on a Friday and the staff told me I needed to make an appointment for data transfers. Monday at noon I was back. Although it was quite busy, Isabel had me in the store promptly at noon. Clearly they were busy, Isabel was able to fix 3 issues in my account that were issues. She got my phone fired up with a few attempts, data was transfered and I was done quickly. Isabel certainly redeemed a VERY BAD sales experience. If it weren't for the traffic to get to this store from Maine, this would have been my go to Verizon store. I will have to brave the traffic in the future to return here. This location is the better Verizon store in Southern Maine area. read more

My daughter is an airman just back today from Kuwait. Her phone was acting up, and she was trying to get a new one at the Newington store today, where she was taken advantage of, and charged hundreds of dollars over what she should have been charged. I have been on my phone for over 30 minutes now, to try to straighten things out, and am writing this while still waiting for someone to respond. I called the local phone number for the store, but that number puts us through to a national call center, who cannot seem to put me through to anyone at the Verizon store. After 34 minutes, the representative came on to tell me that he's called the store numerous times and no one is picking up. How is this possible that they have no one to answer phones at all when it is a phone store? So now we have to wait until tomorrow, when I'm supposed to be working, to be put on hold again to get any help. Unacceptable. We'll see how they try to "help us" tomorrow, and update. read more

No serious attempt by their tech to access a faulty droid phone. They really only want to sell new phones. That was bad enough but their sales software was not working properly so getting comparison information on new phones was impossible, we had to use the sales person's iPhone to get data. I should have just bought a phone on line, would have been simpler and much quicker. read more

My SIM card had stopped working, and for 3 days I was operating my iPhone7 solely off of WiFi. I walked into this store, and a very nice employee named Cory greeted me at the door, and proceeded to troubleshoot and replace my SIM within 10 minutes from the time I walked in (I was expecting it to take at least 2 hours to reset everything). I was also expecting to pay at least $100 for service and new tech, but he did it for free, and I am so thankful and walked out sxtremely happy. Thanks Cory! read more

Went into the store to fix a customer service problem per their directions. Mike at the Portsmouth store wouldn't even help me and flat out told me not going to happen period! In a few words, don't bother! My wife and I approached the Verizon store on Woodbury Ave on a day when the store was not busy. Even so, we waited for quite a while before someone came to wait on us. We both wanted to buy new phones and to trade-in our old ones. First, we waited while the sales person's iPad wouldn't work, then we waited while he had trouble bringing up information on a new one. Next, we were told that we would have to upgrade our plan to take advantage of the trade-in. We agreed hesitantly, but were then told the phones we wanted weren't in stock but that phones 'came in every day". He said that he would be in touch one way or another, and that we could then make an appointment to have our data transferred. We left expecting a call shortly. After a wait of a few weeks and having encountered the impossible task of calling the store to check on things, we ordered our phones online and set them up ourselves. When we had a small problem setting them up, we went to the Verizon Cellular Sales store on Lafayette Road, even though it was much further away from home, where our problems were solved in five minutes in a helpful and friendly way. read more

Brought in my 6 week old iPhone 7+ for a swap out. Cracked glass. On the warranty plan. Verizon charged $200! Local (within 100 miles) glass replacement expertise not available nor made available by Verizon. And this is supposed to be a good deal/solution! Took forever to reconfigure and reload my perfectly functioning iPhone that ONLY NEEDED a new glass faceplate. read more

I've been with Verizon for a long time and been to many stores, but would never go back to this one. Went to add a line to my plan here and it seemed easy and quick. Come to realize 3 months later that the representative ended up charging me for two plans instead of one family plan so I went back to fix it with them. After looking everything up, the representative helping me told me I was right and that there was a mistake, but unfortunately they couldn't fix it in store and would have to call customer service. I asked questions as to why they couldn't do in store but he could not give a solid answer and looked disinterested in even trying to help me out. After speaking with customer service and explaining everything, they fixed my charge. They gave me a rebate which I was thankful for but also added the the store should have done it for me and sounded confused as to why they didn't and apologized on behalf of the company. Just this pass week, I went in for an upgrade thinking it would be quick and easy. As I walked in, I was greeted by a representative asking how she could help. I told her I wanted to upgrade my phone but she replied "Oh, well I'm sorry but we're closing in 5 minutes. Sunday hours are weird but you can come back tomorrow.." I've upgraded phones at other stores before and I know it doesn't take that long. I also could have just got the phone and brought it home to upgrade myself but it was obvious that she was shutting customers out so she could leave sooner than later because she did the same to the next customer that walked in. Thanks for the great service that you provide on the phone Verizon but maybe you should get your retailers to learn basic customer service also. read more

We all dread the chore of going to the Verizon store, but I have to say that this was my best experience in one of these places by far. Daniel was a friendly, solid, knowledgeable, and honest associate. He worked with us to get the best plan for our money and needs/wants, and the whole process was very smooth. Due to the nature of our transaction and the questions we had, we spent a decent chunk of time in the store, but everything went as smoothly as possible. after my iPhone 6 had stopped working due to water damage, I was able to bring a new phone that my friend had gotten me here for them to switch over to. They were very helpful in a sense of answering all of my questions, getting everything switched over, and also making needed adjustments to my plan. the negatives is that I had to wait about an hour for all of this to happen after being told it would only take 20 minutes. The person who had helped me didn't seem to have much training because they had to keep getting the manager. I also was frustrated that I couldn't add insurance to my plan, but would have to wait till they do open enrollment in the winter. But that didn't seem to be anything they could control. So overall, they were very helpful in answering questions and solving all of my problems for me.it would have been better if they had more trained staff on the floor helping, because no one wants to wait that long for a phone plan to be adjusted, especially after being told it was only going to be 20 minutes read more

Affirming other reviews the waits were long on my three visits to solve a problem with a phone under warranty. Unlike some of the other reviews, the problem has not been solved. Under Deirdre's theory in her addendum, I would have to deduct another star since they promised to have someone from the next level up call me. Two days later, no call. My saga: My 8 month old phone does not start up after recharging. On the first visit, it came back to life just before I entered the store. I was told they couldn't help me because the phone was working. Hopeful that the problem had self-corrected, I left the store. The same thing happened on my second visit. This time, the technician spent some time checking for software updates and seeing if there were any settings that might help resolve the situation. He said to bring it back when it would not turn on and they would be able to diagnose it or replace the phone. The third visit was not the charm. The phone would not turn on when the "technician" tried. He removed and replaced the battery and the phone did turn on. (I had done this on several other occasions and it sometimes worked.) He then said that it was normal to have to remove the battery after recharging! (Does anyone think you should have to remove the battery after recharging to get your phone to work?) He then said that since he could not replicate the problem - even though he just did - that they could not replace the phone under warranty. He then offered to sell me a new phone! That's when I hit the ceiling! I grabbed the phone back from him and demanded to know who I could talk to get Verizon to honor the warranty. In grabbing the phone, I touched his hand and he told me if I touched him again, he would call the police. He ordered me out of the store. I ignored him. I asked the manager what was the appeal process and he took my name and number and said he would have someone at the next level call me. No call has been received so I am stuck with an unreliable phone. Obviously, I will not return to that store. (I'm sure Joe and Stephen(?) will not be disheartened by that. A broader note to all Verizon customers: If, as I was told, that Verizon would not honor their warranty unless they could replicate a problem, then their warranty is worthless for any intermittent problem. Hopefully, this is incorrect and IF AND WHEN I receive a call from someone with authority to honor the warranty, I will update this post. UPDATE: I have received emails from three people at Verizon. One in response to this Yelp posting and two in response to the same posting on the Verizon Community complaint page. No resolution of the problem yet, but it is a start. FINAL UPDATE: After this posting and a posting on the Verizon Community Forum of the same saga, I received responses from three Verizon Customer service people. I spoke with Dion at Verizon who apologized for the treatment at the Portsmouth store and their incorrect depiction of the warranty policy. He advised that Verizon had contacted the store to deal with the issues. Based on the phone call with Dion, I was sent a replacement phone which is now up and running. Kudos to Dion and Verizon Customer Service. Rating of Portsmouth store unchanged. read more
