The service I received from Verizon is unacceptable. I am shocked by the way they treat their customers. They tried to charge me $620 for a $500 phone. This is robbery.
I was eligible for an upgrade, but when I went to upgrade the phone I realized that Verizon is running a scam to cheat their customers. The word upgrade does not mean pay the full price for the phone. I was told that I had two available options:
1)upgrade the phone for $100 + $40 upgrade fee and sign a two year contract. This did not sit well with me because why would I have to pay a fee to stay a customer for another two years. It seemed shady. All in all thought it seemed like I could just suck it up and pay the fee. Then I was told that in addition to the fee, my phone bill would be more expensive, and there would be a $40 line fee on my bill each month. Why would my bill be more expensive if I am signing a two year contract?! Including the $40 line fee my bill would be a little over $80 a month.
2) Pay for the phone monthly on a payment plan, and no two year contract. This "upgrade" also didn't thrill me, why would I pay full price for the phone over the course of two years if I am eligible for an upgrade? Scam. So the sales person tells me how this is such a deal because my bill will only have a $20 line charge, and I was saving so much money. Except then I am paying $20 line charge, and a $20 monthly phone installation. Brining my bill to a little over $80 a month. So in reality they are offsetting the price of the phone in the contract deal, where you end up paying the same prince and therefore are essentially paying for the phone-so no deal is being offered. I figured option 2 was better than 1 because I was saving the $140 upgrade price and fee. I told the sales person I would do option two. Then I was told "there is a $120 upgrade fee". This is outrageous, a $120 upgrade fee, on top of full price for the phone???? This is robbery.
I asked for a manager, I should have asked for an adult. A person with Pink hair by the name of Octavia came to help. She clearly had no idea what she was doing, and had no authority. She was rude, didn't have knowledge of their policy, and overall it was an infuriating experience talking to her. This is what happens when people who don't care about a company at all become managers, she had no idea what was going on. I asked her why there was $120 upgrade fee if I wanted to pay for the phone in an installment plan. Meaning with the fee I was paying $620 for a $500 phone. She said it was a standard fee. Online it says that the upgrade fee with no contract is $20, no where does it say that this is for online only, meaning that they have to honor it in stores. Octavia was adamant about the fact that I had to pay a $120 upgrade fee, but that she was doing me a favor because it was a bundle and I could get a phone charger, screen protector and phone case in the bundle. I explained to Octavia that I didn't want a bundle, I didn't want anything from the store instead of the phone. She told me it didn't matter I had to get the bundle. I had to pay the fee. I then explained to her that I was paying a fee to buy a phone from them for full price, and she said but your bill will be lower. A lower bill, plus price of the phone plus fees came out to $20 less than the contract option. There is no lower bill, especially because I am sure they assume their customers will upgrade their phone again in two years so they will always be paying that much. This was such a scam. It was 45 minutes of back and forth, and she just kept saying this was all they could do for me, charge me an extra $120 on top of the full price for phone and I had to take the bundle. Maybe they are being pushed to sell a bundle, but there really needs to be an adult manager there, one who knows what they are doing and one who doesn't try to scam their customers. Verizon you are one of three big phone companies, how can you be taken seriously if these are the people you call managers. Needless to say I left the store without a phone. I came back a different day and spoke to a different manager who told me that I would never need a bundle if I didn't want one. Which goes to my point that Octavia was not only rude she had no idea how to do her job. To top it all off, Octavia was so rude she suggested I go buy a phone on amazon if I didn't like what they were offering.
I ended up going to Apple, buying the phone outright and saving myself over $120.
Never again will I come to this store. I recommend Octavia go through training again. read more
