Verdigo is a small to medium size bouldering gym that is laid out well and has some nice treadmills, ellipticals, and other workout equipment that makes it great spot to spend some time in. I wasn't sure about parking so I parked at the Ross down the street.

    No air conditioning ...

Decent climbing gym... definitely one of the smaller touchstone gyms in la. The gym is about 20-30 percent smaller than lab or Hollywood and about 20 percent fewer amenities. No sauna, always runs out of towels, no cardio machines etc... The climbs are on par with other touchstone gyms - a little less variety than the others due to smaller location. It's a decent place to climb - but if you want the full climbing experience consider checking out cliffs of Id instead... Parking is a breeze... but WiFi leaves much to be desired - very slow..

Vertigo Boulders is my favorite place to climb in LA. It's nice and small with a lot of friendly regulars and staff. They keep a solid rotation and routes and have a nice tradition gym area too.

Finally! A climbing gym in Burbank! FYI-- as of the time of this review, it's only a "soft opening" for members of other Touchstone climbing gyms (so, no day passes, etc). Half of the wall is done and set with problems, but there's still lots of work to be done before they have the rest of the gym and facilities ready to go. Whenever that will be... I have to commend the staff of this gym though to let us Members climb around while they get everything up and running! Especially for those folks like myself who have been rabid for MONTHS waiting for Verdigo to open! So, the nitty gritty only because it's the soft opening and I am sure the best is yet to come. Technically Verdigo is a bouldering gym, no top roping here! The walls have a lovely color band design, the problems so far have been really fun, the limited facilities that exist (locker rooms/shower/bathrooms) are really nice, and the staff friendly! What more can you ask for other than finish up! Looking forward to giving you guys a more full review once you're open for reals! Five stars because I'm so excited and you guys killed it with your soft opening!

My grandkids, ages 9 and 11 are interested in trying rock climbing. Are there any age and weight limits for kids?

Hello, we do not have any weight or age restrictions. We recommend the child be over the age of 5 since most of the younger ones prefer to play on the mats and not climb on the walls. This can be dangerous with little ones running around since we're… Read more

It does a surprisingly efficient job balancing climbing, fitness equipment, locker room amenities, and overall flow, which is more than I can say for its sibling location in Burbank. The climbing is the main reason to come here. The problems are skillfully designed, thoughtful, and consistently more challenging than what you'll find at places like Verdigo. The setting feels intentional, technical, and rewarding, so whether you're trying to push grades or just get a quality session in, the walls are usually worth the trip. The vibe is great, and the staff are awesome; friendly, helpful, and good at keeping the place feeling welcoming even when it's busy. And realistically, in this part of town, it is going to be busy. This is a densely populated Hollywood-adjacent area with a lot of people who want to use this gym, so the fact that it functions as well as it does is impressive. The biggest downside is parking. The parking lot is abysmally tiny, and unless the gym is unusually empty, you should basically assume parking in the lot is not going to be in the cards. There is street parking, but I don't love relying on it here. The neighborhood is otherwise dense and active, but the abandoned buildings (including the giant one literally across the street) make parts of the immediate area feel like they've been left to languish, and that can make street parking feel uncomfortable or potentially unsafe depending on the time of day.  Tbh, I'm a huge fan of public transit so I'll just walk here from the Hollywood/Vine station and avoid parking altogether! For any points lost to parking disadvantages, HB regains them for proximity to transit! (BTW: LA Metro is $1.75 fare...i think that's how much it costs just to OPEN the Uber app these days) There are also three treadmills, and somehow they are always being used. If you come here, please don't use them so I can stick to my training plan plz (haha). But seriously it's the only thing in the gym always at max capacity, so I hope we might get a 4th one of these days... This is still a Touchstone gym, so I'm not gonna lie to you or pretend that this isn't the most corporate climbing entity in California. Again, everyone who actually operates the locations for touchstone is incredible and wonderful and the reason that you should come back. But whoever is running the budget is absolutely off their rocker. I have been a touchdown number for the better half of the decade now, and I have to tell you that it feels like every year I am getting ripped off more. This is the only gym that has raised their membership fees multiple times in a year, but at no point does it feel like that actually went to improvements; if anything, the gyms look more like they need investment than ever. (Touchstone, you WILL get more members if you are reasonably priced - you are pricing ppl out, and other gyms are NOT). So with that said, if you are considering joining, I strongly recommend that you never ever pay an initiation fee under any circumstances. If you can't negotiate it in person, wait until there is a promotion. Do not give this company any more money than you need to, because they are going to treat you the exact same way. /rant That said, at HB specifically, there's really not much to complain about. Hollywood Boulders is a strong, reliable climbing gym with great staff, great setting, and a great vibe; just plan your parking strategy, guard your wallet during signup, and please, for my sake, leave one treadmill open.

It was really busy on the Wed evening, but people are respectful and will wait their turn and not crowd you on the wall. Since I was a beginner, I stuck to the easiest climbs of which there were few, but enough for me to spend a good 1-2 hours there. It was a bit intimidating watching the other climbers but people are pretty nice. Some tried to give us advice on holding positions and stuff. Afterwards, my forearms were SORE. TIP: Go with freshly cut nails! Even though my nails were short, each nail still got really jacked up and ragged climbing the walls. Don't even think about nail polish.

Routes are rotated regularly -- boulder routes change on Tuesdays and new rope routes go up on Thursdays and Fridays, so it always feels fresh and well maintained. They also host events and community gatherings from time to time, which gives the gym a really lively vibe. It doesn't feel like just another climbing gym -- it really feels like a community. Their yoga classes are also a little different from typical studios. Many of the instructors are climbers themselves, so the classes complement climbing and strength training really well. The yoga classes and fitness area are upstairs, and that section is for ages 14 and up. One of my favorite moments is after a shower, sitting in the dry sauna while the kids enjoy it too. Hearing them humming or chatting happily just makes me feel so happy -- moments like that remind me I'm really glad we come here. As a mom, I've visited other climbing gyms, but this place just has a different kind of energy. If you're looking for a climbing gym with a great community and well-maintained routes, I definitely recommend this place. Even though it's a bit farther for us, it's worth the drive.

The only thing I could say with thr lead routes, is I wish they had more variety. Ive only seen one or two 5.9s for leads, and a ton of harder 11s, 12s, and a 13 or two for lead. Cliffs of Id is basically the Disneyland of climbing gyms--minus the overpriced churros and crying toddlers. Huge space, creative routes, and a vibe that screams, "Yes, we climb stuff, but we're also pretty chill about it." The bouldering area is legit--sprawling with problems for all levels, regularly reset, and always fun. Top rope and lead walls are tall enough to make you question your life choices halfway up--in the best possible way. Route setting's fresh. They post updates on Kaya for my fellow climbing nerds who love tracking sends or getting alerts when new problems drop. I don't check it religiously, but plenty of my friends do. Staff is mostly friendly and helpful, though once in a while you might catch someone at the front desk looking like they just got back from a mental crux. Understandable--it gets busy here, especially weeknights. If you hate crowds, aim for mornings or early afternoons. Membership is definitely on the pricier side. But you're paying for a premium space, good route setting, yoga classes, a decent training area, and the occasional climber who smells like sandalwood and ambition. Minor gripe: the grading can feel inconsistent sometimes. One day you're flashing V4s like a boss, the next day you're stumped on a V2 that feels like a cruel social experiment. Still, that's part of the fun (and frustration) of the sport AND every other climbing gym 'suffer' the same subjective problem. Overall: if you're serious about climbing--or just seriously curious--Cliffs of Id is worth checking out. Just remember to bring your stoke and maybe a backup pair of patience.
