SUPER cute store. Tons of unique accessories from jewelry to hats to socks. I've gotten a few things here, for myself and as gifts. The only reason I am giving the store 4 stars and not 5 is because like the other reviewers I agree that the staff is not very friendly/helpful. I have not needed to ask them any questions, but I also have not felt like it would have been welcome if I had. I will definitely continue shopping there due to the merchandise but it would be nice if the staff were much more welcoming. read more

OMG, I love this store! I came one night about 10 minutes before closing (9 pm on a Friday night), and browsed a bit. I decided I needed more time and didn't want to keep the employees waiting so I came back the next day. This store has cute clothes for men and women (although more for women), accessories, crafts, purses, chocolates, gifts, etc. Their stuff is so cute and trendy although I couldn't find tops that fit me right. So cute! I stopped in to grab a little box of chocolates for a gift-sharing party, and I was not disappointed. They are beautifully crafted with some really awesome combinations, including of the spiked variety. Friendly peeps and some other really wonderful items that were a little outside of my price range, but would certainly make a nice gift. It helps that it's right next to Apo, which is another establishment that specializes in green stuff. I really like Verde. I've been shopping here for a couple of years and every time I'm happy with their merchandise and the overall look of the place. I also think the chocolate concept is really cool (as well the open kitchen in the back where you can see it being home made.) I'm not really a chocolate person, but I always grab a little treat while I'm in there. Today I bought a hat for an upcoming vacation. They have some cute accessories and it's a nice spot for gifts. Verde is a pleasant surprise. I happened upon it after browsing at Open House which gets more and more disappointing each time I go there. From an urban horticulture point of view I think it's pretty great. Like others already mentioned the plants are more rare and exotic than what you'd find at your local florists, I thought their houseplants were lovely and very cheap! I also got a really friendly low-key vibe from the sales staff, unlike OH which seems either snarky or really unhelpful. Chocolates, handmade jewelry, bath and lotion products, funky well decorated space...all in all I think this is the type of affordable eclectic boutique style shopping that Philadelphia should be known for. read more

Verde is the cutest boutique around. Clothes, jewelry, chocolate, purses, scarves, shoes, soaps etc. It's ladies heaven. This is a great spot to pick up a birthday present or something for a special occasion. Their products are all quality, which sometimes comes with a hefty price tag, but, I'd say it's worth it. You can watch them produce their specialty chocolates through a window in the back. It's pretty interesting. Their selection is pretty large and although the chocolate is pricey, they're really delicious and some unusual flavor pairings. The employees are all very friendly here. The store is adorable but teeny tiny. You'll be rubbing elbows with everyone. read more

I adore this shop. I haven't tried the chocolate mostly because I can't manage to get through the store without falling in love a bunch of times. Every time I have gone into this store I have spent less than 15 minutes and well over $75 and always walk out happy and with something unique and beautiful that I get compliments on. Seriously, I purchased a bag that converts to a clutch men, women, and babies have commented it. I have a ring that strangers go to touch because it's so pretty and unique. I rave about this place, I recommend it to friends looking for something unique, and I can't stop myself from going in when I am nearby. So check it out, and apparently they have chocolate too!! I have a nagging fear that my picture is up behind the counter at Verde with a label reading "Comes, hangs out for a very long time, does not buy." Sometimes I sneak probing glances at the store employees for signs of wary recognition. Do they remember me? Are they bracing themselves for my usual half-hour of slow, dazed laps around the store, followed by an embarrassed "okthankyougoodbye" as I scuttle away? Guilty as (hypothetically) charged. I do buy things-- several times a year at least-- but, more often, I just go in and wander around. For a very long time. I can't help it. I can't walk by Verde without going in, and I can't go in without staying for a while, and I don't have enough gift-giving occasions to support my habit. It's like a museum in there! I don't know how they fit so much good stuff into such a small space, but they do. Verde sells an eclectic collection of unique jewelry, scarves, hats, bags, and other accessories in all sorts of styles. Whether you want something funky, artsy, or elegant, you will find it here. The chocolates are too beautiful to eat. Well, and also I have a dairy allergy. But if you are willing and able to eat chocolate, or you need an edible gift, this is the place to go. Truth be told I want to give it a poor rating to incite them to adjust a few things- bottle necking at the door because girls are in awe and their boyfriends just lost another piece of their soul, there isn't a whole lot of "look-to-assess-the-awesomeness" space, the candy takes up half the store... I really just wish the store was deeper so that the inventory could be more spread out. So, I'll give this 4 stars in the hopes that YOU and your boyfriend will also be a patron and they will be forced to expand their space. This place is a girl store -- meaning, if you're a girl, and you like pretty things, Verde is perfect for you. A myriad of gorgeous purses, scarves, and jewelery fill this little shop, though it also carries casual t-shirts, hats, rainboots and other utilitarian wearable accessories needed to survive in big bad Philly. Staff can be a little aloof, though they do warm up once you start catching them in conversation. Prices can be a bit steep in here, but not gouge-worthy. The best thing about Verde is the aroma of chocolate from the back kitchen where the store's artisanal chocolates are made. Yum! read more

Get a budino pop while you can! They're great, great, great. If you can dip them in an actual budino across the street at Barbuzzo, even better. I joke... kind of. Restaurant Row on 13th Street in Center City is one of the best neighborhoods to indulge in refined dishes in a casual, yet festive atmosphere. Chef Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran dominate the street with a nice variety of restaurants including Lolita, Barbuzzo, Jamonera, and most recently, Little Nonna's - just to name a few! They're also affiliated with Verde, which offers a creative and cute take on well-crafted women's jewelry, clothes, and home accessories. And of course, Marcie Blaine artisanal chocolates are on display in the large window in the back. It's also where Chef Turney's famed salted caramel budinos are crafted. When it's time, they're simply taken out the back door to Barbuzzo, which is right next door! This past summer, these salted caramel budinos were transformed into budino pops. I finally had a chance to taste these at the 2013 Midtown Village Festival and they're a great transportable iteration of the GF and my favorite Philly dessert. Salted Caramel Budino ($8) Dark chocolate crust, vanilla bean caramel, sea salt But back to the original! To celebrate the GF and my anniversary this year, we ended the night with some Moet and a pair of the salted caramel budinos. The cookie crumbles offer great texture to the smooth caramel and puddings, which has a perfect juxtaposition between salty and sweet. Each bite simply tantalizes your senses - many of which aren't necessarily typical of a standard dessert, but work so well. You'll be happy to know that you don't need to eat in at Barbuzzo to get your hands on these bad boys (girls?). If you go to Verde, you can get them to go! Love Verde. Not only is it around the corner from my office, but it is the best place to go when you can't think of what to get a friend, family member or co-worker. Verde sells everything from scarves to Marcie Blaine chocolates. The prices are reasonable, and they have a good selection of unique candles/perfumes. I have bought their chocolate as a treat for myself and as gifts for both my boss and mom. Their dark chocolate bark with cocoa nibs is addictive and the best I've ever had, and I love that their chocolates are unique and have an almost earthy feel to them. Really love the eclectic approach at Verde. Have not sampled their chocolates, so I can't weigh in there. I think their flowers are beautiful and NOT overpriced for what you get. They have an $18 "grab and go" arrangement that is unusual and elegant. Yes, you could get an arrangement for half the price at a deli or an ordinary florist, but you get what you pay for. I got some white hydrangeas here that were absolutely the most extraordinary hydrangeas I have ever seen. They also lasted for weeks! I also love that they have other nice gifty stuff, which makes it very convenient if you need to visit someone - you can pick up flowers and a little gift in the same shop. read more

One of my favorite boutiques in the city. I great place to purchase a gift for one of the ladies in your life (mom, sister, friend, girlfriend) Or just to treat yourself to a little something pretty. The have beautiful jewelry, leather goods and other accessories for the ladies (including lotions and body care products) - all are fairly reasonably priced. The items are unique - definitely not what you would find in a department store. They also sell chocolates that are made in a little kitchen in the back of the store. They dont have much in the way of items for the home - but the same ladies own Open House on the same block that fill the gift-for-the-home need. I do miss the little bouquets of flowers they once had in the front of the store. . . any chance they can bring that back... read more

Verde is a cute little store - the name confused me at first since I think it would be an awesome name for a florist, but this little boutique is most definitely not filled with plants and flowers. There's a smallish selection of women's apparel up in the front, and as you move towards the back, you end up browsing bags and hats on shelves, and TONS of jewelry in glass cases (at least the really expensive designers) or necklaces and bracelets hanging on stands. The real treat IMHO is the Marcie Blaine chocolate counter, and the back glass window where you can see them making the different chocolates during the day. I asked my fiancé for some of her specialty truffles for Valentine's Day, and boy did he (and Marcie) deliver! They also offered Barbuzzo's signature caramel budino dessert as a take-away Valentine's Day treat, which I definitely took advantage of...as a birthday surprise for him tonight! read more

Another shopping gem on 13th Street! Every time I go in there for a gift I can't help but pick up something for myself. They have a really awesome assortment of funky jewelry--from rhinestones to geodes to crystallized bangle bracelets. What's even better is that I can always find something in my price range. The quality is certainly better than most chain stores and the pieces are unique. They also have a great (albeit small) assortment of apparel, scarves and handbags. Actually they also have soaps, make up, nail polish... am I forgetting anything? Oh wait, they also sell Alex and Ani bracelets! Score! It's a shopper's dream. I haven't tried their chocolates yet, but they certainly look beautiful and I am eager to pick up a dozen or so. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Philly. I walk into this store everytime I'm walking around Philly and I always find something I want. Whether it's chocolate, jewelry, bags, or knick knacks this store is on the pulse of my taste. I sampled some of their chocolates for the first time during my chocolate tour with Philadelphia Chocolate Tours: I got the philly pretzel, the bacon truffle, and something that had Philadelphia's skyline on it...I'm blanking on the flavor. SO. GOOD. The bacon truffle was freakishly good and made me want to buy on of those bacon chocolate bars. They called it their "Barbuzzo" chocolate since it captured some of Barbuzzo's flavors. The pretzel one was super cute with a yellow pretzel painted chocolate on top, not to mention it tasted great as well...who hates salty sweet combos? It was also really cool to see the chocolate making in the back of the store. When I was in there last they were putting together the Budino's that my boo and I had at Barbuzzo....crap your pants good. Of course I'll be back, I can't stop myself. I love the jewelry section -- you'll find a great gift here for any woman in a heartbeat. They've got all price points a great selection covered. This store is owned by the same owners of barbuzzo. During the holiday season, you can get budino in little mason jars at verde. Also last summer, they sold budino bars on select weekends. They were seemingly overpriced at first, but once I got started it was definitely worth it-- I hope this becomes a summer tradition! read more

We stopped in tonight after dinner at Lolita, so you may sense a slight buzzed undertone while reading this review. On our way in to the shop we saw a woman with a fannypack around her waist, so as we entered Verde we laughed hysterically. There should be some sort of stigma attached to fanny packs that prevent people from wearing them. Once we entered, we were met with a diverse array of creative accessories and accent pieces. If you are in search of a unique accent piece to add KABOOM to your boring outfit, then get it here. From earrings to bracelets to quirky little scarves, that extra spice you need could probably be found here. Once we thought we finished perusing and began to make our way toward the door, a case of chocolates appeared before us. This case contained chocolates with pretzels, cashews, pecans, and whatever else you can think of. Some were fancy, some basic, and some a little nasty-sounding (I, personally, am not into bacon/chocolate combos. Nope. No thanks). We decided to sample four. Of the four the pretzel one was the best. Get that one when you go. You will love it. Promsies! read more

The staff is also super helpful & friendly. I had a problem with a piece of jewelry once, and after an exchange, the problem persisted. The flowers here are amazing. Many unique stems at a very reasonable price. I really love the concept of flowers and chocolate being sold in the same place, and I'm a huge fan of Lolita and Grocery. I really wanted to like the chocolates here, but I'm sad to say I was disappointed with the two I tried. The Lolita was a chocolate truffle rolled in (I believe) peanuts that had a hot kick. Unfortunately, the flavors didn't meld well, and the peanuts were dry. I was also disappointed with the mexican chocolate truffle...it had a gorgeous presentation (it seemed to be rolled in chocoloate shavings) but again, the flavor was a little off and disappointing. There are many other flavors to try, so I'm hoping that I just picked two misses, and I'd be interested to hear what other people think about the chocolate. And for sure, I'll go back again for flowers! read more

Great items. Could have rated 4 stars because of the cute items they have. However this place has the worst staff ever. I've gone in there 2 times now and didn't even get acknowledged. Both TIMES. No hello or smile. I don't like to be tailed around the whole store, but to glare at me when I tried to smile at the staff? Come on now. I probably would have purchased over 100 dollars worth of clothing but didn't want to support an establishment that lacks basic customer service. Yes, they have really cute stuff and the costume jewelry there is fab (and reasonably priced!) But what's up with the people that work there? Every time I go in there the people working are so unfriendly and act like they are too cool to even acknowledge your presence. This afternoon two employees were at the front counter, turned their heads when I came through the door and did not say ONE WORD TO ME when I arrived or while I was browsing through the store. It was crazy! It's a shame because I would go in there more but it kinda makes me mad that the store can employ people like that. read more

The bitch cashier with glasses has a horrible attitude and should not work in retail if it pains her so much to answer a simple question about their merchandise. This is the second time I've experienced her "pleasant" demeanor. the only conclusion here is that i love everything that marcie turney and valerie safran. their restaurants, stores and grocery are just amazing. i love open house as well, but VERDE is my favorite. this is my absolute go to place for any time i need a gift for a friend, a chocolate desserty treat or if i need a sparkly pick me up for myself. the jewelry selection is beyond compare. no question that this place always has the best selection of colorful, funky or a bit more refined jewelry in metals, with stones, beads, whatever you can think of. big, bold pieces, or delicate pretty chains .. whatever your vice, it's all here. the shoe selection gets a shoutout because they have adorable sandals and flats. what other store can you find fresh flowers, awesome handbags, jewelry, gourmet chocolates, hats, stationery, tshirts, and even lovely aprons. if you like the colorful print ones that anthropologie carries, you'll be super pleased to find that they have a pretty big selection of similar ones at verde. read more

I duck into Verde when I need to send a little care package to a girlfriend, but more often than not I come out empty handed. My problem with it is that most of their stuff is pretty cheap, made in China, and just not that durable or nice looking. This flower shop-meets-jewelry-boutique-meets-divine-chocolatier should be marketed as the one stop shop for everything women love. The first several feet of the floor is dedicated to flowers and designer gardening equipment. Gradually, costumers are introduced to an array of one-of-a-kind jewelry from local jewelers and snazzy handbags and purses. In the back, costumers can peer through a large window at the chocolates being made. Apparently the chocolatier is also the owner of Lolita around the corner and two other major upscale restaurants. The chocolates are pricey ($28 for 15), but they are pretty special. I suggest you visit, even if you aren't the girliest girl; I certainly am not. It's an excellent store. I work for a non profit and we have an annual gala. I was doing most of the centerpieces on my own, but I had about ten tables that needed floral arrangements. I was hesitant to get a quote from Verde assuming they would never be in our budget, but was pleasantly surprised when they said they could do it. Not sure of what I would totally get with the end result, I was nervous, but when they showed up the day of the gala with my centerpieces I was thrilled. They were so beautiful!! Gorgeous flowers that were bright, colorful, and expensive looking. They looked wonderful on the tables and I was so happy they weren't all taken from the tables afterwards, so I could take one home for myself. Since the gala, I have gone to Verde for all my flower needs. They are perfect when you need to impress someone. I neglected to mention that the chocolate is superb as well, somehow a piece or 4 end up with me when I'm checking out pretty much every time. read more
