Unlike any other bridal shop that I've been to *cough* Kleinfeld, I was allowed to look at the entire sales floor and see the actual dresses to pick out what I loved. Amba listened to me and Toni cracked me up, and knew my venue. They listened to my questions about adjustments and explained changes that were possible and what wouldn't be possible. Finally, we got to the dress I traveled for. I am so NOT whatever size the dress was (it's a runway sample unlike ones they have made to try on) but Amba and I just shimmied, breathed, but did the "pants dance" to get it on. She was so sweet and patient. I ugly cried, family hugs all around, more champagne and congrats from everyone. I will treasure this experience for years. I've been on the search for the perfect wedding dress all over the country...Chicago, Florida, and now New York. And everywhere I go I fall in love with the same Vera Wang dress...I should just buy the darn dress already! And while the dress selection hasn't changed much the sales associates have...and today's experience at Vera Wang Bridal House was the best I've had. For those of you coming in from out of town- make an appointment early! I called about a week ago for a Saturday appointment and they were completely booked. Fortunately, they had a cancellation at the last minute and were able to squeeze me in this morning, but I'd recommend calling way ahead of time to stay on the safe side (especially if you're planning on dress shopping during the weekend). I'm sure all the sales associates here know their stuff (after all...this is Vera Wang), but I'd recommend asking for Lori! She's a wealth of knowledge after working at this bridal shop for many years and she says it like it is....which I personally appreciate. I was a fan from the start, but was especially impressed when she told me to not buy the sash from Vera Wang, but to go to a fabric store nearby because I could get the same sash and save myself hundreds of dollars. And get this...she even offered to come with me to the fabric store on her day off to help me find the perfect sash for the dress. Now is that good service or what?? And as far as dresses go here the selection is pretty impressive. The Vera Wang salon in Chicago sure has a lot of gowns, but nothing in comparison to the Vera Wang Bridal House. If anything there are too many beautiful dresses to choose from here...I actually considered changing gowns every hour just so I could wear them all, but then I remembered I'm neither a celebrity nor billionaire. read more

When shopping for your wedding gown, you should make Vera your last stop (or only stop :) ). Going elsewhere after you experience the quality of a Vera gown is useless. Nothing compares! I specifically asked to be placed with Lori for my visit to Vera- due to the other yelp reviews that spoke of her expertise. Both my Mom and I were blown away by Lori's knowledge, creativity, and eye for what would fit me best and how to style my Vera gown to put my own personal touch to the gown. I really wish that Lori could shop with me all the time... and style and accessorize me! At my first appointment I loved 2 dresses, so I went home and thought about it over night, and returned the next day to retry both dresses. Lori was extremely patient with me, which made making such a hard decision (all of the dresses made me feel amazing) a lot less stressful. XOXO Meghan EDIT! I have been married now for a year. I just remembered that I left this review and did not leave what happened with my alterations and on my actual wedding day. First, when I went in for alterations 8 weeks before my wedding I was told I would need to rush order a new dress in the next size down because I had lost too much weight. WHAT?! I had lost only about 10lbs at this time and it was 1 dress size. I was told up to 2 dress sizes were no problem at the time of purchasing my dress well in advance of my wedding and starting my wedding workout regimen. I am large busted as well and the original dress still fit in my bust, actually a little snug. Surely they have run across this sort of body type before? This is Vera Wang! Thankfully I was able to get in touch with the bridal store (alterations are done at the downtown office) and they were able to get me reassigned to a manager as my consultant for alternations. Makalah I believe was who I had first? She was not truthful and I felt was trying to sell me on paying 800.00 for a rush order on a new size and additional alterations. The rest of my alterations went perfectly (Jenny is AMAZING). I picked my dress up on Wednesday afternoon before my wedding- I was getting married in Boston on the following Saturday. They wouldn't open my garmet bag there to show my my dress, veilS, and sasheS. Plural- but I felt hey they have to be right and they are packaged to perfection for our drive to Boston why disturb them? WRONG WRONG WRONG. Not only were my veils fused together which is not what I wanted (the blusher was fused to my long veil when I wanted the blusher comb separate to be removed for pictures) but my sashes were wrong. Yep! I was supposed to have an ivory sash and a beautiful blush sash and instead I had the ivory and a bedazzled surely expensive looking sash that did not in anyway shape or form match my dress. To make matters worse I didn't discover this until my wedding day! Remember- things were perfectly packaged? I did not want disturb or wrinkle anything. To say I was devastated is an understatement and I didn't get to look the way I had planned for so many months on my wedding day. I have never been more disappointed in a luxury service before- ever. I was placed on a waiting list since I called 2 weeks before the date that I needed the appointment for. The lady that I initially contacted told me she was trying to do whatever she could do make room for me and she sure did when I received an email saying a slot opened at the time that I had requested. From the moment that my mom and I arrived at the salon we were treated superb by receptionist and the rest of the staff. After we were taken upstairs to the showroom where we got our champagne treatment as we got to walk around picking up gowns with Lori my bridal consultant. As a great consultant she kept showing us different options and combinations of belts and veils to match each gown that I tried on and encourage is to take pictures of each to make a better decision. I went to Vera Wang this past weekend while searching around NYC for my dream wedding dress. First of all, the selection in the store was less than average- they only had maybe 2 decent dresses I was interested in and everything else was way too couture/runway (IE red, purples, giant flowers, pieces missing on the dresses) and I kind of felt like it was a waste of time. The worst part of the experience was my consultant, Amba. She was pushy, rude, and made me feel uncomfortable because I didn't love the couture pieces they had. Every time I told her I didn't like a dress she looked like she wanted to roll her eyes and was huffy. She only began to be kinder once I started loving two dress options. The other consultant there (a blonde woman) was very judgmental of us and kept looking down on me in various dresses- which was very offputting. The other thing that bothered me is that Vera Wang as a whole cannot accommodate changes to dresses (IE no natural waist if the dress has a drop waist, no swaps for tops and bottoms, no changes to any aspect of the dress- you buy as is). read more

I am so lucky to have Clara Bella as my consultant at Vera Wang! She's warm and professional in every way. I liked that she gave honest and insightful opinions throughout our appointment. She really knows what goes best with my body shape and personality. The dress is sooooo simple and barely has any decoration, totally different from what I have been looking for, yet I just couldn't take my eyes off it! It is elegant, unique, simple and enough. You know how people say Vera Wang is the goddess of wedding gows? Well, "they" are absolutely correct. There are a few important takeaways from a Vera Wang experience. 1. Her dresses are absolutely stunning. They appear well-made, they are interesting and there is a large selection. Everything about them is wonderful. Really. 2. The salon itself is completely fabulous. All dark grey and velvet, with private sitting areas for your girlfriends/mom/family to sit and watch you twirl around in the world's most gorgeous dress ever. Someone comes around offering you champagne, water, whatever you want. And the champagne keeps flowing. Granted, I don't know if that's good or bad when buying the most expensive dress you will ever own, but either way, I swooned. 3. The salespeople are incredible. I went last Friday and worked with Jillian, who couldn't have been nicer. She yanked and pulled and got me all situated in the dress, never once making me feel uncomfortable or awkward. She pulled a ton of dresses for me to try, listened to the styles I said I wanted, and chose a whole bunch of fabulous black belts with crystals to bring the whole look together. She took her time, didn't rush me, let me try on multiple dresses multiple times and smiled the whole way through. I am not an easy person, but she was incredible. Best bridal consultant ever. Here's the rub: the dresses are priced in the astronomical category, so if you go, prepare to break the bank. It was a little tough knowing how much each one costs, but I almost feel like it might be worth it for the service alone. Can you imagine coming in for quite a few fittings and always having great service? Not to mention they can change the neckline, add straps in a variety of fabrics and really work to make the already perfect dress even better and fit you to a T. I really don't want to go anywhere else, but the dress I fell in love with was of course on the high end of things...story of my life. I have a secret only a handful of my closest friends know about: I dont like "being in weddings". I know what you're thinking....but you're a girl? And while I absolutely celebrate my friends' engagements, I anxiously await the night they pop the question and ask me to be in their bridal lineup. Seriously, if you want to show me love, please stop asking me to 'walk' your weddings. Allow me to be a regular Jane; one who thinks of weddings as a romantic and no-fuss exchange between man and woman; spare me from the year-long nightmare of wedding details, nervous breakdowns and bridesmaid fittings. So, what could make me happy to say I-do one more time and pay $400 for Bridesmaid dress? Vera Wang. Yes, classy Vera Wang; the "fairy tale" bridal designer who incorporates right blend of DRAMA and TASTE. Who knew bridesmaids had their own stylish advocate? Thankfully, our Bride did. It insults my intellect and sense of taste when a bride pledges to "pick a bridesmaid dress that can be used time and again". I typically end up buying a $200 ill-fit, pastel taffeta, mass-produced JCrew option that will ultimately end up as a $50 charity deduction. But with Vera Wang, my bridesmaid dress will be my go-to choice for a special dinner date or cocktail event, waiting to make me feel dainty, soft, romantic. The service at the atelier is impeccable. The room is spacious and not stuffy. There's a difference between treating dresses like pieces of art-work (Vera Wang) and cattle (David's Bridal). My friend also purchased "a Vera" bridal gown and I was happy to accompany her to the shop leading to the Big Day. The wedding gowns range from $4500-10000+; while bridesmaids come between $400-600. My dress needed last-minute alterations and they kindly accommodated my request. The staff is attentive, helpful, and patient---true professionals dealing with a nervous bride, her overbearing mother, and 4 opinionated bridesmaids. One of our initial selections was not flattering to some in the bridal party, but the staff offered their honest feedback without insulting anyone's sensibilities. Bottom line: classy, stylish, accommodating. Can't expect much else from a 5-star brand. read more

Dress stop #5 I had seen pictures of the "Dawn" dress online (from Spring 2010 collection) and wanted to try it on. Yes, it was way out of my budget ($4995), but I wanted to see what all the hype was in a Vera Wang dress so I made an appointment. Surprisingly, on an early morning weekday, the waiting room was already full with 4 other brides and their guests. Once I met my senior consultant, I gave the usual speech of what I was looking for, wedding details, etc. I did mention I wanted to try on the Dawn dress. There are 4 rooms that hold dresses. Each room is categorized in the type/style of dress; then the very back room are dresses $10,000 and up. My consultant didn't pick out dresses for me. Rather I browsed the dresses and picked out one's I wanted to try on. I headed to the dressing room and she helped me get in and out of dresses. We then headed outside where there was a pedestal (and a couch for your guests to view you), tall mirrors and the lighting was great. She didn't really say much and didn't really do much to sell the dress. Surprisingly after trying on about 4 dresses, I didn't like the Dawn dress all that much. Instead, there was another dress from 2 years ago (don't know the name or dress number. Apparently Vera has just started naming her dresses within the past year. Before all dresses were numbered) that I liked better. Unfortunately, it cost the same amount and even with a 10% discount, that wasn't going to help. Even with the dress being discontinued at the end of this year, they don't offer any type of discount. Overall, the experience here was mediocre and I didn't really think the dresses live up to the hype. It's not like the quality or the dresses or the fabric was exceptional. I purchased my Vera Wang wedding dress from a different boutique (Mark Ingram), but was searching for a veil so I made an appointment here. I worked with Amba Punjabi and she was wonderful. She had the dress that I purchased from Mark Ingram all ready for me to wear to try on veils and was very patient as I found the perfect match. She walked me through all my options with everything which I really appreciated. I had never gone veil shopping before so I had lots of questions, but no question was too "small" for her! The one issue we did have was with the receptionist at the desk when we checked in. We were late for our appointment and I understand that's frustrating, but we had called beforehand to let them know it was due to unfortunate news we received from home. And, since we were the last appointment of the day, it wasn't holding up the later schedule. I do want to respect others' time so I get that it's an inconvenience, but the attitude and disrespect were completely over the top, arrogant, and unnecessary. Things happen and I called in advance. Although I did not get my dress here, I applaud Vera Wang for having exceptional dresses, a beautiful bridal salon, and professional service. Throughout the course of my wedding gown search, I visited in total 8 bridal salons, wore over 60 gowns, and narrowed my selection to a dress from Vera Wang and another one by Junko Yoshioka. In the end, Junko won out (her 08 collection rocks!) but Vera had some of the most beautiful and ethereal gowns. Is her signature strapless a-line too commercialized? Perhaps. But there is a reason why it is so popular, I mean, it is made of beautiful lace and silk and it fits SO well! I would recommend her over any wedding dress maker in the city.
