Velvet Room is located right in Brownsville on Main Street of Sutter Ave. Ambiance: the ambiance is very casual, relaxed, upbeat, and maintains and chill vibez. There's table and bar seating alongside with big screen tv to watch sports, etc. Food: the cocktails called the biggest and the drunken teddy kickass for sure. The Land shareable plate had a lot of food and was tasty. The salmon cakes were perfectly cooked and delicious! Service: we sat at the bar to watch the football game and chat with bartender. Nice spot, loud as expected. Small but cute. Barely any parking. Waitress nice but not as attentive as needed. Food was good. Took a while for appetizer to come out. This is my 2nd time having the Oxtails because the first time it was so amazing! This time rice tasted burned and oxtails overcooked. The trio Waffle Plat was great! Loved the lamb chop! I drove all the way from upstate NY to come to this place for Mother's Day and it wasn't a good experience at all. Customer service was a unsatisfactory bartender didn't acknowledge new customers at the bar catered to who was already there. After 10/15mins sitting waiting which it wasn't packed over capacity so the lack of acknowledgement was distasteful. When she finally "Noticed" "oh ya'll just walked in" Miss thing cut it!. On arrival they had the jerk grill outside in front of the establishment cooking chicken which made the grill smell come into the restaurant. Which is absolutely the NOT!!! A good look at all. It was freezing cold in the restaurant like it was 90 degrees outside which it wasn't for Mother's Day 2026...now the bill gratuity was included for 2 ppl 20% automatically you pay a certain amount for cash payment and card. I gave cash, what topped it off I did not receive change from the cash payment. Found my way to Velvet Room, after a friend's last minute change of birthday plans. I honestly had my heart set on the original plans but once we were inside Velvet Room, I was really happy to be there. My friend and I were the only customers there at just after 7PM so we were seated promptly. We started with cocktails, shots and appetizers of wings, parmesan fries and lobster mac and cheese. The wings were tasty and cooked well-done which is a thing with me- not a fan of soft chicken. The macaroni was hot and cheesy with a large, fried lobster tail on top. The lobster tail was crispy and large enough to share. Our "BBL" cocktails were served to us in the cutest booty shaped glasses. The tequila shots gave them extra kick. We were told that hookah couldn't be ordered until 830PM so we ate, drank and waited. We sat for awhile and seemingly out of nowhere, Velvet Room filled up with people and became a whole vibe! A wonderful DJ whose name escapes me set up. Our hookah was bought out. There was an emcee and then the karaoke shenanigans began- the servers and even the DJ got on the mic. After about 2 hours, my friend, the birthday girl, grabbed a mic and became the crowd motivator. Overall, an outstanding night was had. Please note that the hookah is cash/CashApp only and there's a built in gratuity with the main menu. If you're driving, that area is residential so parking was surprisingly easy. Plenty of potential but our experience fell way short! I'm giving 3 stars because our waitress tried her best and when we brought all the issues to the owner, he was receptive and tried to help. The guy was on point and the hookah pulled nice and smooth, it kept us distracted and less frustrated by the slowww service. Celebrated my friend's birthday here two Sundays ago. He had reservations for 6pm that was pushed back 45 minutes due to the previous party arriving late (not really our issue but okay). We were finally seated around 7. We were a group of 18 and they only assigned ONE server to the table. I'm not sure they are equipped for such big groups. The service was sooo slowww despite the waitress doing the best she could. She kept apologizing and we could tell she was clearly overwhelmed. We ordered drinks of course and it took well over an hour before a lot of us received our orders. It was taking so long that most people just started going to the bar to order directly. Again, the waitress kept apologizing and assured us she put in all our orders and was just waiting in the bar. We had to actually speak to the owner after about 1.5 hours and he personally went to the bar to get some of us our drinks. I personally ordered the "big queens" which is basically a lychee martini and it was a complete fail. It tasted like pure syrup! My friend also got the same and she felt the same. We both returned it. Actually, that seemed to be the theme for a lot of their drinks, even something as simple as a Shirley temple...TOO SWEET. The "pound town" and "take me home" were much better options. Perfect balance of strong and flavorful. The food was okay. I ordered buffalo and lemon pepper wings to start. I received buffalo and garlic Parmesan wings instead. I didn't feel like the hassle, so I just kept it without saying anything. The flavor was good on both but the garlic parm was salty. Either they need to go lighter on seasoning the wings itself or the sauce. The buffalo was good. I ordered the lamb chops as my entree, I give it a solid 3/5. My friend's order of salmon with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes came out after everyone was done eating. She literally ate nothing and had to take it home. I didn't take more food pics because it was already chaotic and people waited long enough. Also, they definitely need to work on the plating and presentation of the food. All in all, there is definitely plenty of potential and room for improvement. I feel like this a good spot for a more chill vibe; drinks, hookah, and a quick bite. Disclaimer - we did not order food. I drove by this place several times before I realized it was the restaurant. Made a reservation on resy for 8. Arrived a few minutes late because of parking. I met my friend at the table. The music was ridiculously loud - too loud. My friend and I were screaming at each other from across the table. We waited for about 15 minutes - no waiter/ server approached us. I tapped someone who happened to be the manager and she said that our waiter will be with us shortly. Another 10 minutes goes by, two women are seated next to us. Another 5 minutes goes by and the waiter for our section walks over to the women who were seated next to us (the women who came after us) and took their order. My friend and I then decided to leave. I went when it was a Wednesday and they have the 10$ drinks and food. The place is small the hookah is okay. I wish they had more food options for $10. The tacos are not it . I would not suggest the shrimp tacos at all. The Rasta was spicy. It looked good and the portion for 10$ was great. I got lemon pepper wings. I was shocked it wasn't a dry rub. I kinda didn't like that;/ the dj was good . Overall I would go back for a vibe. I would probably eat before going. The wings were more oily than anything, so that sucked. I arrived exactly at 1pm when they opened with my group of 4 the place was EMPTY first people in the door. the waitress was so sweet and polite and very apologetic about the wait time. We ordered at about 1:15 and We did not start eating until 2:15. one of my friends had a little bit of a complicated order because she is picky. She Ordered the Mac and cheese as a side and catfish as her entrée she got the catfish plate after we finished eating about 2:50 mind you her SIDE dish came out first with my other two friends dishes the grits and pasta. I sat there waiting for my ox tail and Mac and cheese for about 10mins (2:23) after my friends got their food. And at this time I was still waiting for my appetizer witch came out by (2:40) and my mozzarella sticks were the only things not cooked I GOT MY APPETIZER LAST AFTER I WAS DONE EATING and my friend waiting for her catfish once the manger came over she just placed my friends plate down and walked away to ask the waitress what the problem was, to turn around and just say sorry for the wait on the food and is there anything I can help with... my friends and I wanted an answer to why it took so long for us to get her catfish (she ordered first) and appetizer. THE ANSWER she gave was the food wasn't on the same ticket when it was all ordered at the same time And it was a technical error. My friend just packed her plate up to go at that point. Nothing was taking off our bill even when we were told something should have been done about it and we had to WAIT for the bill.. We left by 3pm TWO HOURS spent here. THE FOOD WAS GREAT nothing to complain about except wait time DEFINITELY just ordering ahead if I come again the waitress was awesome! She definitely deserves more credit for running the bar and serving food to everyone there! Needs more staff than one person to help running orders for 20-30 people at the same time. My advice to the owner would be the customer is always right if something wasn't cooked like my mozzarella sticks give a discount for the inconvenience if you know that your kitchen is having problems pushing food out at the same time offer a free 5 dollar drink or something like 5% off the bill and i leave this long review to give a honest experience I understand as small business it's hard to make sure everyone is happy when leaving a lasting impression. I attended velvet room on a Friday for a birthday celebration. We arrive at the location and already the male bouncer is an ass no surprise there as most bouncers are assholes. Due to some miss communication I asked to speak to the manager and her demeanor was nasty but because my group was late and in the "wrong" I let it pass. Eventually all guest arrive and we are seated at a round table right next to the door although it was freezing and the revolving door would not stay closed. (Strike 2). Now although we were told that no walk ins were allowed people with no reservations were in and out only because they were "regulars" After about 30 min out waitress comes to introduce herself and try to take our orders. Now mind you our 90min started once we sat down. She takes our orders and after another 20 mins or more comes to tell us that they are out of some of the things we ordered such as rice and peas and veggies wrf it's only after 9 and the kitchen closes at 1am yea another strike. They didn't even have supplies to make their specialty drinks. Some foods are only served on certain days and although that may be normal none of that was ever made clear as there was no advance menu to choose from. Food came out at separate times drinks are missing. Now I will say the oxtail Mac and cheese was on point but those lamb chops horrible very much under cooked. The waitress kept apologizing as the favorite saying goes I just work here well duh... she even promised us free shots but then we never saw her again. The bar workers are only catering to their regulars and worry about taking shots while on the job the ghetto. At the end of the night we asked for the bill, now in order to book a larger party a deposit is required now why in the hell was that missing from the bill then the managers comes over just to tell us that she doesn't have access to the cash app the deposit was sent to and she would need to see proof of payment wtf strike 100 cause wtf do you mean. I ordered 2 shots of Hennessy, the total $30 HOW we were going back and forth with the price, her reply "it's $14. I showed her the menu price, which clearly states $10. All in all, I paid the $30. She poured an extra shot and acted like it was a curtesy, but It was paid for. The music is way way to loud. Whatever price is on the menu that's what I should be paying, no long talk. Not only did they not change the order , they charged me completely still for the entire order of food I didn't eat or touch that sat for over an hour before the lightskin lady manager even came to tell me she couldn't do anything but discount the meal for 10% which took offf 3$ lol although I touched nothin or ate nothing. I didn't order anymore drinks I didn't order anything else I waited another hour for the manager who was right behind me havin drinks just to come over and get me my bill to separate it from the 2 other people I was with so I could actually leave . Although I had 4 other friends arriving I decided to just meet them at another place once I got this cleared I wasnt givin them a penny extra for nothin because of how they were responding . The money wasn't the issue the hospitality was.
