The restaurant is beautiful - our table was very nice as well. We were a table of 12. Our waiter was great in the beginning but then didn't deliver at all. We were very organized and ordered our Wine, appetizers, and entrees with no issues at all. However, Our appetizers came out at all different times.... dinner came out in 4 different times.... the last one to be delivered 20 minutes late and it was raw..... very disappointing Our bill was adjusted for the dinner that was late and a bottle of expensive wine which wasn't good at all... To top off the night - just a couple of hours later - my husband started to get really ill. His food must have been raw too. He still is in bed and it's not because he had 2 glasses of wine - it was the fish. We will not be coming back again. read more

Very clean. Salads were brought out almost on top of the apps. Had to ask for bread and butter. Kitchen does not know the menu. There were a few; wasn't ----- suppose to be with the----? Such a mixed bag! Three and a half stars is probably more fair but four would be too many. The ambience is fine but not great. It is clean and modern but no textiles to speak of and with a vaulted ceiling it was too noisy, and this was on a tame Tuesday night. We were seated promptly and offered a menu. She had the Malbec which got positive reviews and I ordered the Pinot noir but they were out of it. Bummer. I went with the cote de Rhône instead and it was very good. We then were brought bread and olive oil with herbs which was very tasty. Nice California oil with a bit of a bite. We ordered the oysters to start and they were absolutely stunning. Better than the Acme oyster house good. Next to arrive were the beet salad with blue cheese and the mesclun greens with sour cherries, goat cheese and walnuts. Both salads were wonderful with fresh greens, quality cheeses and expertly prepared beets. To this point the server is very attentive and the food great. Modest ambience and lack of Pinot were my only gripes but a five star experience so far. We both order specials. I had the beef rib and she the petite filet with prosciutto wrapped shrimp. The server has now been to our table about ten times and is getting annoying. My rib was delish and side veg were excellent. Her steak was not prepared correctly and very bland and yes I know it was a filet. When we mention that it's fine but not great the server shrugs and offers salt. We don't believe in wasting food and certainly wouldn't have sent it back, but something other than 'yeah sorry. Anyway want some salt?" would have been better. She had another Malbec and I switched to a cab and again both were good. We finished with the mouse cake and some coffee, both of which were okay. The cake was tasty but seemed a day or two old. It was rich but all one consistency which was a let down. By the end of the meal the server interrupted us so many times I wanted to offer him a chair and phone mom to introduce him. Five stars was probably not realistic but this meal could have easily been four or even four and a half. Some wonderful food was dulled by a pretty terrible steak and a definite lack of attention to detail. A good experience but I won't rush back. Total price without tip was $177. You can get better food nearby for less. read more

Service, food, cocktails and the modern look of Vela has promoted my family and friends to return several times over the last 6 months, and helped make the decision to host our holiday party there for our Hair Salon, Riah. We started with an hour of pass-around hors devours (grilled shrimp skewers marinated and grilled to perfection, and goat cheese crostini's with dried figs were beyond delicious, cocktails (Mary May was my favorite) presented with beauty and then our sit-down in the private room was set up so beautifully for 25 of us. We were comfortable, free to move around, and enjoyed salmon, amazingly moist and delicious chicken, pasta bolognese that was cooked to perfection, and homemade desserts that made me wish I saved my room to indulge. The owner, Donna can be found cooking with a smile, the bartender, Fred makes amazing cocktails, and our server Nick was the sweetest and most attentive. We just finished a dinner for 4 at the bar, and this was my second time to dine at Vela. The place is beautiful, modern and airy. The menu is solid, the wines a bit limited and pricey. But...the service was so bad that we could barely enjoy any of the aforementioned positives. Jill, our bartender/waitress needs a lesson in customer service. I don't like to complain but she was in such a bad mood that she should not have come to work today. read more

I'd like to make this a 3 1/2 stars if possible. The atmosphere is fresh and sophisticated for Doylestown, albeit a bit cavernous. The staff is friendly but just not professional enough yet. I think time will improve the staff experience but both the kitchen and bar were slow..the kitchen the worse of the two. We were 3 and it was obvious that one entree (barely room temp) was ready way in advance of the other 2 which came sizzling, dangerously hot to the table. The fish sauce alongside the sea bass was bland although the side vegs were cooked well, the mixed fish chowder was tasty and generous in size and the swordfish steak was adequate. Can't say that over $250 for 3 that this was worth the price. Needs time to develop to the price level charged. read more

I REALLY want to like this restaurant, but it came up short on both visits. My first visit, the special fish dish was nicely prepared and tasty, however my companion's pappardelle pasta dish was pretty much tasteless and a small portion. Second visit, pasta dishes tasted as if they were pre cooked and warmed up. The clam sauce was tasteless, the pasta mushy. The cacio e pepe bucatini was even worse. Mushy tasteless pasta. Very disappointing for an Italian restaurant. They should re-evaluate the pasta dishes. However, a friends veal short ribs were very good and the meatball appetizer was average. Very limited OVER PRICED for the value, wine list. Would I visit again? Maybe, to try the pizza, because I REALLY want to like this place. Great atmosphere and parking in Doylestown. read more

Had dinner at Vela on 12/30/18 with a party of 6. I went in with some hesitation given other reviews about long wait times. We were seated and attended to immediately, and our server was prompt and attentive throughout the meal. Drinks, appetizers, and entrees arrived in a timely fashion. Food and atmosphere were top notch - the eggplant and meatball appetizers were absolutely delicious. Appreciated the vegetarian options. read more

The restaurant decor is gorgeous and nicely done. We ordered drinks....the bourbon mix was alright....the mint cucumber drink was all lime and vodka.where is the cucumber and lavender ? A replacement was made and slightly improved but not edible. Their menu very limited...the meat balls were out of this world....We ordered the salmon a bit on the dry side and somewhat bland....the veal had two burnt spots and no taste no flavor. The veal was returned to the kitchen. We declined another entre as we lost our excitement for this restaurant . We shared this with the manager who appeared uncomfortable, we did not see him sharing with the chefs or kitchen staff. The staffing was ample, our server was very very nice. Will we go again, NO...not until we see a LOT better reviews. read more

Staff was great and place was beautiful. But food was just ok. Pizza is brick oven but was soggy in middle. Even my daughter didn't like it. I had veal and wasn't a huge fan. But risotto was good and so were fresh veggies. read more

Food and service was excellent. We went early, 5:30pm, to avoid the busy time since they are new. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I had a date night planned and were excited to visit Vela for a nice dinner together. We enjoyed the food overall (chicken dish was good but maybe a bit of a small portion size) but unfortunately what upset us was in the service department... we had reservations for 5 pm and when we arrived we asked if we could be seated in a side table with a partial booth. We always prefer that as opposed to a tiny table out in the middle of the floor. The host told us sorry but no they couldn't because it would be filling up very soon with people. We thought ok no problem but then they sat the very next couple after us in the booth table and then another after that. And by the time we were ready to leave at close to 6:30 there was hardly any other tables filled in the entire place... almost all of the booth tables remained open/empty. Neither of us like to get too upset about stuff like this but it was just really annoying that they couldn't just accommodate us initially and then the reasons they gave for it turned out to be horrible reasons. Spoiled what was otherwise going to be a nice experience for us. read more
