Excuse my half eaten salad it was just too fab- incredibly tasteful and extra points for kale as it's my favorite base. Decided to build my own burger and add bacon and tavern sauce to elevate the volume. Here for this and will be back again.

Lovely service. Adorable decor . Happy to attend an after work function here. The appetizers were wonderful. Flatbread pizzas with wonderful cheese, freshly sliced tomatoes, and peas. Mini cheesesteaks, pretzel with two different types of dip! Cheese and mustard. I ordered the airline chicken and it was very yummy. Even the seasoned potatoes and asparagus was fresh and delicious. I would definitely come back.

Stopped in on Thursday evening and sat in the dining area. The inside has a nice look and good vibe. Our server was attentive; we ordered the steakhouse and tavern burgers. Although cooked to temp they both needed more flavor . We chose to upgrade to fries, which were just average. Next time will be apps and beer at the bar.

Fantastic food, delicious drinks. Waiter was super patient with our group that included 3 toddlers. Wonderfully kid friendly but there were cute couples there enjoying the window seats as well. We went on the way home from Hellerick's Farm. Definitely worth a visit.

We stopped by the water wheel after touring the Mercer Museum in Doylestown. I made reservations on Open Table on the drive down. Out waitress was intuitive and friendly. Though I wouldn't necessarily recommend the scallops, everything else we ordered was great. We had a great time and the atmosphere was perfect. We ended up liking it so much we paid and had another drink at the bar while listening to the acoustic act. The bartender there was as great as a the waitress. Not sure if there is another way in, but there were steps out front. Ample parking.

Soft pretzel, if you're going to sell a pretzel in PA it better have flavor and not just look good.

I like the look of the Water Wheel Tavern, it fits into what I think of when I think Bucks County. The staff are all great (at least at the bar), they give great service, and are polite. The drinks are cold and they have a happy hour with some good prices. The food though, it's typical of what you'd find in this area...over priced and lacking flavor. I don't know though if this is a me thing, as I mentioned this type of cuisine is common in the Doylestown area. I really think it's what the locals want: a menu with no direction, no seasoning and mediocre plate presentation. But if you want a spot to grab a quick few drinks and relax by all means stop, but beware, it's as quiet as a library so speak softly.

Checked off the list for places to try, we were aptly impressed with the Water Wheel Tavern. This place is clean, I am talking spotless. Despite the age of this building and overwhelming places for dust to linger - whoever is in charge of cleaning deserves a raise. The Water Wheel houses several bars on several levels. The interior is warm and inviting. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I was trying to overhear the historical details on this beautiful property as the other tables waitress was telling her patrons but I couldn't quite hear anything other than it was built in the 1700 and undergone a few renovations including the removal of the wheel. Pricing is on par for the Doylestown area. Our food was presented beautifully and the atmosphere is relaxing. Well worth a visit and recommendation.

Having some wine at the bar

We came here for dinner at the bar on Saturday night. I ordered the French Onion soup with no bread of course. I also had an order of wings I got about 12, half having garlic parm sauce and half having hot garlic sauce. The French onion soup was very good with an adequate amount of cheese on top. They even gave you some little scissors to cut the cheese when it strings out which is a nice touch. The soup tasted good. It was hot and seasoned well. The wings were good as well with plenty of sauce. I give them a little ding because they did not offer an extra hot sauce which I like to have on the menu. The server/bartender was very friendly and quick with a smile which is nice. Finally, the entertainment/live music was spot on for the atmosphere. The bottom line is that we will come back to the Water Wheel Tavern when we want a nice night out. This is a solid choice for a couple glasses of wine and dinner.

I stumbled upon this restaurant by total chance, as I was in Doylestown down the street at the Fred Beans Ford dealership looking for a new vehicle. Wow, what a great place this is! It is so cute and cozy inside. My mom and I went here for lunch and the whole time we talked about how we wish this was closer to home. The food was delicious! The short rib grilled cheese was absolutely out of this world tasty and the warm pretzel was amazing! The dip that came with the pretzel definitely tasted homemade. It was a cheese sauce and then a Dijon type mustard - not from a bottle if I had to guess! Our server was very quick and attentive the entire time. Weeks later, my mom and I tried another restaurant near our home and ordered similar items and it was not even remotely as good. We looked at each other and simultaneously said we have to plan a day trip with something to do in Doylestown so we can come back here! The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that at times the heater turned into cooler air and we got chilly for a moment until it was warm again. I'm sure it's their way of regulating the temperature, but that is all I can think of that I want a fan of. Otherwise, I can't wait to go back someday.

    Fried pickle burger

Came in for dinner on a Tuesday night with my mom and brother. This was our first visit and I'm sure we will be back. The tavern is SO inviting. The lighting is warm and the wood look is very welcoming. We sat at a high top in the bar area and were brought the happy hour menu along with the regular menu. I ordered the chicken, fig, green apple, and spinach sandwich. My brother had the fried pickle burger, and my mom had the chicken salad sandwich. Everyone loved their food. I tasted my mom's sandwich and the chicken salad was flavorful and not sweet, despite having some walnuts and raisins mixed in. My brother's burger was a work of art. I tasted one of the fried pickle garnishes and it was crunchy and delicious. My sandwich was great. The grilled chicken tasted fresh and the crunch from the green apple was a nice textural component. The bathroom is downstairs (they have a handicap accessible one on the main floor) and it was clean and stocked with soap and paper towels. It looks like they have a lot of live music throughout the months. I'm sure it's a great time. The prices are fair for the quality and favor. Would definitely recommend!

They used to have Sunday brunch but I believe they only do it on special occasions now (Father's day, Easter, etc.)

You should know up front that this place is a smoking bar, so be prepared. I'm not a smoker, but I did not find this to be overwhelming or intolerable. However, I can see how a busier night would lend itself to be a smokier joint as the place is not that big. This is the best place for Thursday night football - as this is why I wandered in here on a Thursday night. It was much quieter than I anticipated being an Eagles game, but maybe once pre-season is over, traffic picks up. There was plenty of bar seating and more than enough room to stretch out. I call this place unassuming, because you'd never guess that this place offers an amazing array of beers and the absolute BEST chicken wings I've ever eaten in my LIFE. This is no joke. I'm not even a fan of chicken wings, or really anything with bones in it, but the sauce that is slathered on these suckers is NO JOKE. It's freakin' delicious and there are so many different options. They're huge, juicy, meaty, and just so so so tasty. I had the Garlic Hot and some Molasses Bourbon Spicy situation. Both so good. Like, I'm going to be talking about these wings for a long time. To top it off, the beer selection is unreal. If you're lucky enough to meet Rich, the bar manager, he'll hook you up with what's good. If you're into trying new beers, this is a solid place to make that happen. Surrounding street parking is aplenty. I'll definitely be back! I can't wait until my parents come visit, they will die over these wings!
