My vegetarian friend was in the area and says she loves visiting this place whenever she's here. I'm a carnivore, but friends are more important than food, so - my first veggie experience! With that in mind I want to be careful how I review the food. The place is nice and quiet, including the servers. The menu is rather expansive like a diner, and it can be a bit confusing because it sometimes says "veggie beef" (or chicken, pork) and sometimes just says "beef" and you have to interpret the missing word "veggie". Since I didn't want any of that, I was able to pick out what I wanted quickly, but my friend took awhile. I liked the spring rolls. Liked, not loved - I've had better; the interior was bland here. And the sauce wasn't announced, but a nice bonus for dipping. The vegetable fried rice, I don't know. The sauce was a bit gluey, instead of making the rice a bit crunchy like fried rice ought to be. The veggies were not done enough so they weren't crunchy but also weren't soft. The broccoli should have been chopped into smaller pieces, but also, it should have been mushrooms like the menu said. I was not pleased with the unannounced substitution - a five star restaurant would be open about that. (I was also expecting baby corn, but the menu did say "corn" when I checked back, so that's on me.) I'd love to round up to 4 instead of down to 3, but in the end, if my friend invites me back next time she's in the area, I'd pass and suggest a different spot. I know it's not easy to craft a vegetarian restaurant and I respect what they've been able to do here, but I think they can do better without introducing meat products. The San Bei "Chicken" was magnificent! The oyster mushrooms, green and red sweet peppers, onions, and ginger with san bei sauce made for a marvelous combination of flavors. For you carnivores, please note that the "Veggi chicken" tasted like well-prepared "real chicken." But what really killed it was the wait time for a to-go... I really was excited to try this place and ordered a few items from each category. The owner (I'm assuming) gave a few recommendations. She told me the sushi would take a while but never told me how long. I ended up waiting at the restaurant for 45 minutes. I watched diners awkwardly sitting in the bench by the door. If I knew it would have taken that long I probably would have avoided ordering the sushi, especially if it was just 2 rolls. The lady also came up to me 20 minutes into waiting to re-confirm that I wanted brown rice for the sushi. OK, so I've gone back probably five or six more times and on H&R revisit it gets worse and worse. I don't know what is going on there. The one in Montclair and Teaneck are still very good but this one is horrible. I can't even eat the food was a. Disaster.. OK, first off immediately we noticed that any table where the people were Asian they would get the complimentary kimchi. We sat there waiting for ours because they always used to give it to every table but for some reason we were singled out and not getting it OK not the end of the world I can deal with it. For the price that you pay we can't even have two each? Next or the entrées I was already ready to go. The food is well-seasoned and the sauces compliment the veggie "chicken" and "beef". The sushi is tasty but only comes cut in 4 pieces. I did not have the dessert but my friend loved the coconut cake. It was moist and had an interesting delicious filling. I personally did not like the bubble tea with tapioca bubbles. If you're vegetarian or vegan, I'm this truly is heaven. As someone who's dipping into the world of plant based, places like this make it so east. The vegan sushi was outstanding. I love sushi so much, and the dragon roll and spicy tuna were almost identical to their fish versions. The rice was so tasty and the fillings were so delicious. Slightly sweet with a salty finish. We also ordered the Steamed Dumplings which were the only low point of the meal. They were pretty bad. Doughy, chewy and tasteless. I couldn't even tell you what they were filled with. For the mains we ordered the Tofu with Ginger and Scallions. Excellent. Fresh, clean and flavorful. I've been going to Veggie Heaven for more than 20 years. I moved to AZ and found a place somewhat like this but Veggie Heaven is the platinum standard! I can't believe I've never left a Yelp review but I saw a person mention Veggie Heaven in a place out here in Scottsdale! Yep, coast to (almost) coast platinum standard. Whenever I go home to visit I have to head here within 48 hours of landing. I eat a meal in the restaurant and get takeout to bring home. I'll eat Veggie Heaven literally every day I'm home. Bagels and Veggie Heaven - can't visit without getting my fill of them! The Denville and Montclair locations are both great with friendly, fast, hard working staff. Outdoor seating was available but with limited capacity. The staff was friendly but careless for our request. We had their orange beef with broccoli and mushroom with veggies. Both dishes were served with brown rice. The food was decent and flavorful. Some of the Chinese vegan dishes are usually greasy and salty but theirs was well-cooked. However, the price was kind of high for its portion. The only redeeming thing here was the spare ribs which were good, but tasted a little chewier than normal. The sushi itself is terrible. I ordered a Rainbow roll which is supposed to be topped with roast chicken, shrimp and avocado. I got some brown mushroom looking thing and the ginger and wasabi smelled and looked old. The roll itself was tiny compared to Teaneck. I had to remove the toppings on the roll because it was brown and had an odor. Moving onto general tso ball/chunks. These tasted like straight up rubber and couldn't swallow. It was so dry and tough that it was inedible. My dining partner is a vegetarian and has frequented Veggie Heaven on many occasions lauding what a great experience she had. Knowing that I was going to a vegetarian/vegan restaurant prompted an immediate strategy in my thinking. I am going to order the very familiar. My meal centered around wanton soup, spring roll, "beef" (not totally sure what constituted beef) and broccoli. I also had the Blue Machine (blueberry, blackberry and apple drink) at $4.25. I loved the Blue Machine and wanton soup. She suggested the "Blue Machine" drink. My dinner partner loved everything. The interior is simple and clean.
