I don't mean this as an insult at all but I was expecting more ethnic decor in line with the restaurant's menu - instead, it's pretty Americanized and feels like a classic suburban NJ establishment. I liked the painted brick on the lefthand side that has Blue Spice's logo/sign on it; spiffy. The bathroom was also a high point, which is...not something I say often. It was very clean and smelled nice, and I liked the dark cruise-ship lighting vibe. We decided to split the scallion pancake app, which was an excellent decision. I work in the city and regularly have this item from a place in Chinatown, and I honestly thought this was better, mostly because it was thicker/denser than what I'm used to. Super tasty and would get that again in a heartbeat. Giant portion as well - we split the pancake, which was roughly the size of a small pizza. My chum had leftovers there, I did not; so it goes with us. I've had a few mediocre chicken katsu experiences of late, so this seemed like a chance for redemption. This could easily just be a personal palate preference, but I wasn't crazy about the curry itself (which had a weird tang to it) and didn't resemble the standard curry I'm used to with this dish. Also, as you can see from the attached, the curry is basically on the side of the dish, separated from the chicken and rice. Because of that, the chicken is on the dry side, which is my primary beef (pun?) with the item to begin with. So a miss for me, but I could see why other people would like this (and apparently do). The service was excellent, full stop. Our waitress was very nice and personable; she had strong command of the menu and you could see her consistently engaging with other patrons throughout our meal as well. She took several group photos so this is apparently a Kingdom of Sussex hot spot for that, which I wouldn't have guessed. She was so good both of us remarked on it multiple times during the meal, which is a rarity. But a great example of hospitality markedly improving an experience and making what was already an overall positive situation that much better. Huge marks there. Would definitely come back but would explore other parts of the menu once I feasted on the scallion pancake.

It was kind of flaky and kept falling apart every time I tried to use it to scoop up some curry. The curry was a little watery and not all that flavorful, and I defintiely would've appreciated more than just one or two chunks of potato and chicken. The chicken sambal and soup were additionally a bit disappointing. The chicken sambal was just okay for me, and the flavor didn't really blow me out of the water. It almost felt like something I could make at home. The soup similarly did not have a particularly rich or flavorful broth, and left me a little dissapointed. Another thing that really influences my review is how cold it was inside. It got even colder when people opened and closed the door. It was so cold that our food didn't seem hot. I think the cold air cooled it off instantly and we were left eating room temperature chicken and soup.
