I decided to go back a friend said they had new people in their cooking food this place is disgusting I ordered a quart of lo mein how special it was $13.95 and I got an egg roll it came to $17 I could not believe it I took it home and I was very excited to eat it and it was absolutely disgusting it had no flavor it was bland and it hardly had anything in it other than noodle it had some kind of disgusting taste I threw it in the garbage I will never go back there this place is ridiculous on their prices and the quality of the food makes me want to throw up read more

Update: Friend came over and we ordered a few basics. First of all, we were greeted curtly both on the phone and in person. Dumplings were fine. Fantail shrimp were 90% breading, very heavy. One of them was mushy and the others were crispy. All super doughy. The General Tso's was slightly mushy, that same extra doughy sensation, a few vegetables haphazardly thrown in (raw onions why?). The kicker was how poorly I slept, which is really rare. I'm sensitive to MSG and that's the only conclusion I can reasonably draw here. Tossing the menu; Wah Yan is no longer an option for my guests. They deserve better. read more

This place has become dear to my heart. It makes me feel like home away from home. My husband and I have it at least once a week. By far my favorite Chinese spot in all of New Jersey. Thank you Wah Yan kitchen for being so kind to us and always modifying your dishes to our gluten intolerance. It's rare to find a spot like this. The outside is pretty dingy. But the food is pretty good - the best in the area definitely. Others are greasy and kinda soggy. The food from here is hot, and literally made fresh in front of you (if you wait for it.) They aren't rude they just don't speak English well. This is the worst Chinese take-out food I have EVER had. I always assumed Chinese food was like making love: even when it's bad, it's still good. This place proves that wrong. Heed this review, and I promise that I will save you time, money, and happiness. Before I get to the food, I must give them credit for having the absolute fastest delivery I've ever encountered (sub 20 minutes!). But I promise you, there is no expedited length of time they could ever achieve that would absolve them of how lamentably awful there food is. Do yourself the favor and just wait the extra few moments for food that is edible, you'll be 1000x happier. Look, I know it's just Chinese takeout, so I was not expecting any kind of ground-breaking culinary experience but this restaurant disappointed in so many fundamental categories that I feel absolutely compelled to forewarn any others who may makes the same mistake I did. So here, in order from least to most annoying, are the glaring issues I've come to take with Wah Yan: - fried rice was partially undercooked - the wonton in the wonton soup had no pork in it (it tasted like a noodle ball) - the egg roll is obviously fried from frozen (they all are) but there's is particularly horrendous. I mean to the point of necessitating additional sauces just hide the unassuming foulness of their egg roll! - and finally, their General Tso's Chicken was, by far ,the worst thing I've ever ordered from a Chinese Restaurant. To start, the chicken was tasteless. Let me repeat that, "the chicken was tasteless." Think about that; General Tso's is essentially chicken that is FRIED and then smothered in a SWEET/SPICY/SAVORY sauce. Acknowledging that, I've always operated under the impression that it was LITERALLY impossible for General Tso's to ever be tasteless. Yet somehow, this facade of a restaurant seems to have accomplished the unimaginable and then proceeds to add insult to injury by shamelessly delivering their disappointment with green bell peppers and carrots in lieu of the dish's iconic broccoli! Bravo Wah Yan, you have systematically proven to me that in a world of seemingly endless mediocrity and bare-minimums, there is still enough room under society's bar to harbor the vile incompetence of restaurants like your own. I will never order from here again and I wish nothing but the worst for you loathsome establishment. PS: your counter/phone lady is detestable. read more

Worst place ever with service, food was cold, they ask you if I bring it back. I'm sorry I had to microwave there the food to eat it. There's no need to go back after you order food. Being stuck at home with nothing but old ramen and canned tuna w/expired mayo, I realized I needed takeout to survive. I usually don't stay in Boonton at my old apartment- and sans car access I decided to yelp it up and hopefully find some delivery chinese food in the area. Delivery guy was nice. Opening the bag, I was sad to not see any rice. Maybe they did away with that whole lunch-special deal? Ordered chicken lo-mein and fried dumplings. The dumplings were pleasantly browned and not dripping oil like other places in the area. Great filling, and the dipping sauce was nice and snappy-sweet. It was not full of a million scallions or runny like some other places. The lo-mein was amazing. Great flavor without being too overpowered by garlic or sweetness. The veggies were crispy and the chicken was identifiable and yummy. Yes, when it comes to Chinese take-out this is very important to me. xD I am really glad to have found this new gem so close to me. I grew up eating at this place. It looks like the typical Chinese food takeout place but the food is so much better. Lunch menu is available all day and the portions are generous considering it's less than $5. You could get white, brown, or pork fried rice with whatever dish you choose. It's quick, cheap, and completely worth it. You'd never have to question whether or not it's really chicken you're eating there. :P read more

Rudest person answering the phone! 15 years been ordering from here but never again. My delivery order contained beef instead of chicken, Called them back and the rude woman insisted I ordered Beef and told me it was my mistake!? So much for customer Service? I was told that I could exchange if I returned it But I reminded her I had it sent delivery. Did she expect me to drive It back there? In addition I told her I had been ordering That dish with chicken for 15 years and she should would recognize me when I got there. I drove down there in a rage beef screw up in hand. If you go in person you'll see the woman who answers the phone is actually pretty nice, she just wants to get your order and get off the phone to move along and do other things. Okay 2-3 stars...Just brought home take out. We got a ton of food for very little $$ so I should probably ease up a little. THe best was the garlic broccoli and chicken/fun noodles. My kids also powered through the beef and broccoli too. THey cooked the brocolil perfectly in every dish. Steamed dumplings were SO bad I had to spit mine out - I threw the rest of them away. THere must have been something wrong with this batch...I hazard to guess they are not shop made fresh. Service - certainly not warm, but who cares. read more
