I ordered a vegan birthday cake for me and my roommate's birthday (we share the same bday!) and wanted everyone to feel included at our party (I have a few vegan friends). I myself am not vegan so was hesitant about the cake but tried red velvet cupcake samples at the Englewood location and they were good-- couldn't even tell they were vegan (which works well for me because I don't eat dairy anymore). If you want a vegan cake that's delicious, this is the place to get it from. The downside is the cakes were pretty pricey with all of the options we added on like the banana choc chip flavor, candles, etc, but I'm glad I experimented and got the flavor I wanted. The ordering process was pretty straightforward- my only complaint is that the person who sent me the invoice didn't explain why there was an extra 7$ added, but I was grateful they picked up my order. Also, they were very accommodating to turn the vanilla frosting burgundy as I requested! I do wish that they added more glitter to the top though and all over the cake (like I asked for). It's not an extravagant looking cake but it got the job done and pretty decadent for a vegan cake. I added the fresh cherries. Also I picked up the cake Friday and it's Tuesday now and the cake is becoming a little dry. But I'm assuming that's expected as fresh cakes don't last long in the fridge. I am not a vegan. Not even close. Honestly, I probably never will be. BUT, I am open-minded and love to try new things. I visited the Vegan Pastry Lab for the first time and I was impressed! The business is on the corner of an industrial area in Englewood, away from the downtown noise and traffic. There's free parking on the left side of the street. The store itself is small, but offers a lot of goodies. It doubles as a bakery and mini market. There isn't any indoor seating - they only have a small bench outside. Everything (and I mean everything) is plant-based and vegan. Their kitchen is also certified kosher. They have all of your favorite pastries like donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, muffins, brownies, and cupcakes. Many of them are gluten-free. They also have oven-baked sandwiches, fresh fruit smoothies, and hot drinks (espresso, tea, hot chocolate, etc.). The mini market has a variety of vegan snacks and products like cheese, "meat" slices, chocolate, candles, nuts, chips, supplements, and dog treats. I was overwhelmed by all of the options, but the employee was very patient, welcoming, and answered all of my questions. I ended up trying the... *#4 Sandwich with sausage, hash brown, egg, and cheddar on a pretzel bun ($13) *#5 Sandwich with chikkin cutlet, cheddar, BBQ aioli, pickles, and onion crisps on a pretzel bun ($14) *Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie (~$6) Based on taste alone, I never would have guessed any of these were vegan. They tasted almost identical to their dairy and meat counterparts. The cookie was the star of the show! It was a nice balance of sweet, buttery, and salty. The texture was soft and chewy. The chocolate chips had a rich flavor and melted in my mouth. As for the sandwiches... they were so small for the price. Bigger than a slider, but smaller than a standard burger. The #4 was nothing special. It was dry and bland. The McMuffin from McDonald's is a hundred times tastier. The #5 was the better one out of the two. This was a good choice for a savory sandwich. The vegan cutlet was tender and similar in taste and texture to actual chicken. The onion crisps, pickles, and BBQ aioli sauce elevated the overall flavor. I would definitely come back to try more pastries, but I would skip the sandwiches. I don't think they're worth the price for such a small size. I am not a vegan. I am not a vegetarian. Until now I have refused to eat vegan desserts thinking why would I eat THAT when I can eat real dessert. And then I got conned. Yes they out these out and cut them up and didn't say where they were from, ate I several of them. Clever that they cut them small to encourage that. After I raved about five of the things I sampled and was taking my taste of the sixth they broke the news to me. I was shocked. I really was. Every thing I sampled was amazing. The peanut butter and jelly one was out of this world. The brownies were so moist and fudgy. I don't know how they make these vegan items taste exactly like regular items with eggs and butter and cream. But they taste better than half the bakery items I get around me. I was very excited to try this place out. Since I have an allergy to dairy and a huge sweet tooth, vegan bakeries are always enticing for me to go to so I HAD to see what was up. The chocolate cupcake had a good blend of savory from the cake and sweet from the icing. The chocolate did a good job of balancing out the sweetness from the icing. The donut was AMAZING. I don't like cake donuts so I'm thankful this was your typical fried dough donut. Absolutely delicious. I love pistachio so I had to try the croissant and it didn't disappoint. Not overly nutty but just right. The breakfast sandwich was dry and nothing special. I do think the sandwich needs to be jazzed up. It's nothing to prepare this at home BUT add something special. It's been a long time since I had a five star experience. Can I give this place six? This is an unassuming little spot on the corner in a mostly industrial area. It has an amazing mix of vegan snacks, vegan meats and cheeses, vegan soft serve, and the star of the show -vegan pastries. Ok actually, the vegan soft serve is out of this world so maybe it's a co-star. I stopped on my way to Boston and on the way back to Baltimore. Well worth both stops and I'm so sad I don't live closer. I tried the aforementioned soft serve, the salted chocolate chip cookies (GF also), the peanut butter jam bar, the regular vegan chocolate chip, a donut and the cinnamon roll. All were epic. Like hands down everything was perfection. If you are gluten free, the gluten free cookie was amazing and not crumbly. It was soft. It's also as big as your head. The staff person was beyond outstanding. She was so nice, patient, and helpful. She was also extremely knowledgeable about everything in the shop. She made me feel so welcome. Prices were great, the shop was super clean and well stocked. There was plenty of street parking. Go now. Go often. You will thank me. read more

Found this place while searching for vegan cakes. I ordered a customized cake for my Fiancé birthday. I ordered some 6 inch carrot cake with cream cheese filling with glitter and coconut flakes. I think I paid around $60 and tip. The cake turned out so cute and so delicious. Would def order here again. Their response time was great within 24 hours. My toddler has both an egg and dairy allergy so finding Vegan Pastry Lab was such a blessing! Not only have we dropped by to pick up baked goods, but we've ordered cupcakes and cakes from them. Everything tastes amazing, you couldn't even tell it was vegan. All the cakes are rich and flavorful. And every time we've ordered online they've been so prompt and kind in their responses. Vegan Pastry Lab opened earlier this year, and everything we tried on a recent visit, both sweet and savory, was incredible. I feel like we would be here all the time if we lived closer, because the food is great and the people are so friendly and helpful. I intended to get a few savory items and a couple of donuts, but everything looked (and for the samples they had out, tasted) so good that I ended up walking out with a picadillo empanada, a cream cheese bagel bomb, two donuts (hibiscus and strawberry glazed), a cookies and cream cupcake, a unicorn blondie, and a brownie. It took a lot of self-restraint to not get even more. My favorite of the sweets was the unicorn blondie topped with sprinkles and white chocolate chips, but the donuts were a close second. The picadillo empanada (seitan) was delicious, and if they have any empanadas when you visit, I highly recommend them. Generally, everything we had was fantastic, and for any vegan food skeptics, you really can't tell the difference for the most part between what they offer and non-vegan versions. The only exception for me would be the cream cheese in the bagel bomb, since I think cheese is really difficult to exactly replicate in vegan form, but the bagel bomb was still good as it was. Ordered a last minute cake for my daughter who turned 17 and is vegan. Although cakes have to be ordered 3 days in advance they fulfilled my order (I called 1 day prior). The cake was DELICIOUS!!!! I took the suggestion from someone else in a review and ordered the carrot cake with cheesecake filling and coconut flakes. It was so good. My family isn't vegan, just my daughter and we ALL enjoyed the cake. We also got some banana pudding and a passion fruit donut. Everything was so good. The service was great, the person at the cash register was never knowledgeable about all their products. The only downside is that there's no place to sit and eat. I needed to find some vegan cake , or cupcake for my daughter since my local shop is closed on Sundays I went and search Yelp and the Lab came up. Well after driving a few miles I walk into this place which you can easterly mistaken for a tropical plant shop which they tell me are also for sale. I and asked them about the gluten free options and they showed me that they have like a dozen or so cakes, pies, cookies and brownies to pick from in addition to at least two dozen reqular vegan items. I got Carrot Cupcakes, Scones, and 2 Walnut Brownies, even if I am not vegan I need to try something out so I can do a review. Well you never know Walnut Brownie was vegan gluten free from the taste, I kelp on taking small chunks of it until it was gone, so I have to say this place is good. My only negative complaint was I hate it that when I spend $30 or $40 at a bakery and toss everything into a paper bag instead of a box. read more

I was thoroughly impressed, the taste for both the cupcake & the frosting was extremely flavorful & exceeded my expectation. Since I discovered this place while passing by it I had to give it a try. Anything vegan I will try. When I arrived I parked on the street on the side. I walked into a cute little shop. The lady was busy when I walked in but the man came out so friendly and welcoming. So I had a couple of questions about the pastries and ended up getting the s'more cookie and the lemon cupcake. Ok my friend told me about this spot and since they're a 6 minute drive frm my house I had to check it out. I can say I'm hooked and will be back for sure! This place has to be one of the top vegan places that my mother and I have had the pleasure of visiting. This little hidden gem is always clean, well maintained, wonderful atmosphere, and always serving the freshest options. If you love donuts but have a hard time finding vegan ones that taste like the regular kind this place is for you! The donuts were described as "like Dunkin' Donuts donuts" and honestly, in my opinion, I think they're 10x better. The breakfast is a must try, it's delicious, freshly made, and extremely filling. As for service, I haven't had the chance to find out there names but the two guys that run the front and cook are adorable, and always have the best conversation to help pass the time while you wait for your food to be finished.
