    Vegan cheese and "meat" slices
    Bea R.

I am not a vegan. Not even close. Honestly, I probably never will be. BUT, I am open-minded and love to try new things. I visited the Vegan Pastry Lab for the first time and I was impressed! The business is on the corner of an industrial area in Englewood, away from the downtown noise and traffic. There's free parking on the left side of the street. The store itself is small, but offers a lot of goodies. It doubles as a bakery and mini market. There isn't any indoor seating - they only have a small bench outside. Everything (and I mean everything) is plant-based and vegan. Their kitchen is also certified kosher. They have all of your favorite pastries like donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, muffins, brownies, and cupcakes. Many of them are gluten-free. They also have oven-baked sandwiches, fresh fruit smoothies, and hot drinks (espresso, tea, hot chocolate, etc.). The mini market has a variety of vegan snacks and products like cheese, "meat" slices, chocolate, candles, nuts, chips, supplements, and dog treats. I was overwhelmed by all of the options, but the employee was very patient, welcoming, and answered all of my questions. I ended up trying the... *#4 Sandwich with sausage, hash brown, egg, and cheddar on a pretzel bun ($13) *#5 Sandwich with chikkin cutlet, cheddar, BBQ aioli, pickles, and onion crisps on a pretzel bun ($14) *Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie (~$6) Based on taste alone, I never would have guessed any of these were vegan. They tasted almost identical to their dairy and meat counterparts. The cookie was the star of the show! It was a nice balance of sweet, buttery, and salty. The texture was soft and chewy. The chocolate chips had a rich flavor and melted in my mouth. As for the sandwiches... they were so small for the price. Bigger than a slider, but smaller than a standard burger. The #4 was nothing special. It was dry and bland. The McMuffin from McDonald's is a hundred times tastier. The #5 was the better one out of the two. This was a good choice for a savory sandwich. The vegan cutlet was tender and similar in taste and texture to actual chicken. The onion crisps, pickles, and BBQ aioli sauce elevated the overall flavor. I would definitely come back to try more pastries, but I would skip the sandwiches. I don't think they're worth the price for such a small size. Vegan or not, I'm sure you won't regret giving this spot a shot!

I was very excited to try this place out. Since I have an allergy to dairy and a huge sweet tooth, vegan bakeries are always enticing for me to go to so I HAD to see what was up. The chocolate cupcake had a good blend of savory from the cake and sweet from the icing. The chocolate did a good job of balancing out the sweetness from the icing. The donut was AMAZING. I don't like cake donuts so I'm thankful this was your typical fried dough donut. Absolutely delicious. I love pistachio so I had to try the croissant and it didn't disappoint. Not overly nutty but just right. The breakfast sandwich was dry and nothing special. I do think the sandwich needs to be jazzed up. It's nothing to prepare this at home BUT add something special. Like actual sauce to the sandwich and maybe season the eggs and butter the bread. Just a piece of advice but overall i'd come again.

Found this place while searching for vegan cakes. I ordered a customized cake for my Fiancé birthday. I ordered some 6 inch carrot cake with cream cheese filling with glitter and coconut flakes. I think I paid around $60 and tip. The cake turned out so cute and so delicious. Would def order here again. Their response time was great within 24 hours. When we picked up they had a mini store and sells different kinds of pastries. We picked up more desserts and even some vegan treats for our pup. Will definitely come back for more

I love this place! I never remember to take pictures but, here's a few from my most recent visit. I had a slice of quiche that was amazing, and the biscoff cheesecake, but this time I primarily visited to pick up some fancy plant based cheeses for a charcuterie board. I love that they carry bandit and rebel products. Everyone that works here is a delight and I like to visit anytime I can.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Vibes: 5/5 I've only tried the Lemon Raspberry Scone, but it was delicious. It was a pleasant texture and had just the right amount of kick of lemon and raspberry. My friend got a different pastry and was just as pleasantly surprised with his. We didn't know vegan pastries could taste this good.

Lots of interesting things Cute place with lots of plants :) you can buy the plants if you want! Brownie- dark and so yummy Berry scone and carrot raisin scone- didn't like the texture. Thought the carrot was better than the berry Guava cheesecake- reminded me more of icing and less cheesecake Cornflake cookie- good. Second favorite Cinnamon roll- my sisters second favorite but I didn't like it as much I really wanted to love the desserts from here cus there's a vegan donut place in LA that my sister and I love. We def expected too much and was disappointed for the most part. They do have some interesting drinks and stuff so I might try it again later but would not go out of my way since I'm not vegan

Vegan Pastry Lab opened earlier this year, and everything we tried on a recent visit, both sweet and savory, was incredible. I feel like we would be here all the time if we lived closer, because the food is great and the people are so friendly and helpful. I intended to get a few savory items and a couple of donuts, but everything looked (and for the samples they had out, tasted) so good that I ended up walking out with a picadillo empanada, a cream cheese bagel bomb, two donuts (hibiscus and strawberry glazed), a cookies and cream cupcake, a unicorn blondie, and a brownie. It took a lot of self-restraint to not get even more. My favorite of the sweets was the unicorn blondie topped with sprinkles and white chocolate chips, but the donuts were a close second. The picadillo empanada (seitan) was delicious, and if they have any empanadas when you visit, I highly recommend them. Generally, everything we had was fantastic, and for any vegan food skeptics, you really can't tell the difference for the most part between what they offer and non-vegan versions. The only exception for me would be the cream cheese in the bagel bomb, since I think cheese is really difficult to exactly replicate in vegan form, but the bagel bomb was still good as it was. Looking forward to trying more on our next visit!

Ordered a last minute cake for my daughter who turned 17 and is vegan. Although cakes have to be ordered 3 days in advance they fulfilled my order (I called 1 day prior). The cake was DELICIOUS!!!! I took the suggestion from someone else in a review and ordered the carrot cake with cheesecake filling and coconut flakes. It was so good. My family isn't vegan, just my daughter and we ALL enjoyed the cake. We also got some banana pudding and a passion fruit donut. Everything was so good. We also purchased a cheese (Brie type) can't wait to try it! Ohh and customer service when I picked up the cake? 10 out of 10!!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! They are super nice here and their desserts are so delicious ! My daughter has allergies and it's one of the only bakeries that she can eat from. I was also able to get gluten free pastries for my brother. The pastries are a 10/10! 100% recommend!

I love this place. I'm a recent converter and have been here before but now appreciate this spot even more. Pastries are seriously amazing. They also make breakfast sandwiches that are delicious. Today I had the #3 breakfast sandwich ham & cheddar on a pretzel bun . Also had a lemon blueberry slice of cake. So good. The jam bar is also a top pick.

Great modern vibes with ample seating, with tables that work for all group sizes. All of us were here for the first time and we asked if the appetizer sampler would be good fit and we're so glad we ordered it! It's a little bit of everything with plenty to go around (in fact, we didn't even fully finish it). Such a fresh and tasty way to start off the meal. For entrees we all ordered something different ranging from chicken kebabs, schnitzel, beef kebabs, and even the shawarma platter (which is what I ordered). All hits! We were too full at the end but they did have a small dessert menu. Definitely would come back to try something else next time!

So, when he recently suggested driving a good deal out of the way in order to sample their food for a takeout dinner, I still agreed. As he drove, I called to place our order for a large family gathering, and the woman on the phone did not miss a beat. She captured all of our requested items and customizations, ensuring that our meal arrived as expected. I should note that Zula required pre-payment for large orders to make sure that the food was collected. Agreeing to the lengthy excursion was not without its challenges, namely having to drive back with the heavenly food smells tantalizing us throughout the entire journey. When we arrived back at the house, other folks were still chatting, but I tore into the bag and tried to hand out the meals as quickly as I could in order to then indulge myself. My Chicken Breast Platter included the choice of two side dishes, one pita, and a small cup of tahini. In terms of the poultry, the two breasts were on the smaller size, but were lean, thinly-sliced, well-grilled, and flavorful. For the first side dish, I had the Israeli Salad, which was fresh, bright, and, thankfully, not too oniony. Secondly, the Moroccan carrots were a bit oily, but offered a nice heat and spice level. The fluffy pita was soft, gooey, and melt in your mouth tasty. In terms of the tahini, I opted for the standard variety, rather than the tahini amba with pickled mango. The traditional version was rich, thick, and acted as a great topping for the chicken and the pita. Lastly, I shared some of the large quart of Hummus, which was creamy, well-seasoned, and simply delicious. In fact, someone at the table thought it might have even been the best they had ever had, and I agree that it was certainly close! Everyone adored their menu items from Zula Grill, and we all agreed that we would definitely order from there again.

The menu is tantalizing and there's plenty of familiar favorites along with a few new-to-me items that the server readily described when I asked questions. This time, I tried the pargiot sandwich. I had no previous conception of 'pargiot' but another reviewer had sung praises about this wonderfully marinated chicken thigh meat. Having tried it, I'm not convinced it's blow-your-mind good, but it was decently flavorful and tender. You can customize the salad type that goes in your sandwich, and I chose the Israeli salad, a blend of tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Mine felt a touch overstuffed since it was harder to taste the chicken and made my pita soggy quicker than I would have thought, but it's hard for me to ding points for generous servings. Our server checked in on us regularly and even thought to inquire about any sesame allergies before setting down the tahini dip that comes with the welcome platter of bread. As the restaurant got full and our visit came up against a reservation, I appreciated how respectfully he asked for the table. Speaking of reservations, it might be a good idea to make one for your visit, especially if you're thinking of coming for dinner. My friend and I came on a random Tuesday afternoon and this space completely filled up. There are also some outside tables available for possible spillover seating, but if your heart is set on coming here, call ahead. Parking in Englewood is always tough, especially come mealtimes because there are so many restaurants here. Make sure you come laden with quarters for the older parking meters or have the ParkMobile app ready for the spots that allow mobile payment.

I only tried Elite Hummus Platter, which is a decent-sized bowl of just hummus with your meat of choice. I chose shawarma ($18.95). Their hummus had a weird texture, smell, and taste to it, so I barely ate any of it. I usually love to take leftovers home, but I didn't want to take it home. The waiter didn't say anything when I mentioned that the food wasn't good. Just simply took the hummus and threw it out. I guess my feedback was futile. This place is pretty busy, so if you still plan to go, make reservations or else you'll be turned away or have to wait.
