I love any place that serves free bread, and the sliced garlic-honey pita bread they set down as soon as we sat down was one of the nicest and most delicious welcomes I've received from a restaurant. The menu is tantalizing and there's plenty of familiar favorites along with a few new-to-me items that the server readily described when I asked questions. This time, I tried the pargiot sandwich. I had no previous conception of 'pargiot' but another reviewer had sung praises about this wonderfully marinated chicken thigh meat. Having tried it, I'm not convinced it's blow-your-mind good, but it was decently flavorful and tender. You can customize the salad type that goes in your sandwich, and I chose the Israeli salad, a blend of tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Mine felt a touch overstuffed since it was harder to taste the chicken and made my pita soggy quicker than I would have thought, but it's hard for me to ding points for generous servings. Our server checked in on us regularly and even thought to inquire about any sesame allergies before setting down the tahini dip that comes with the welcome platter of bread. As the restaurant got full and our visit came up against a reservation, I appreciated how respectfully he asked for the table. Speaking of reservations, it might be a good idea to make one for your visit, especially if you're thinking of coming for dinner. My friend and I came on a random Tuesday afternoon and this space completely filled up. There are also some outside tables available for possible spillover seating, but if your heart is set on coming here, call ahead. Parking in Englewood is always tough, especially come mealtimes because there are so many restaurants here. I thought I liked hummus until I went to this place. I can't tell if it's because their hummus was not good or maybe I'm not a huge hummus fan. I only tried Elite Hummus Platter, which is a decent-sized bowl of just hummus with your meat of choice. I chose shawarma ($18.95). Their hummus had a weird texture, smell, and taste to it, so I barely ate any of it. I usually love to take leftovers home, but I didn't want to take it home. The waiter didn't say anything when I mentioned that the food wasn't good. Just simply took the hummus and threw it out. I guess my feedback was futile. It's a lot of hummus though, so if you capitalized on the complimentary bread at the beginning, you may be looking at a to-go box situation for a nice hummus lunch the next day! Not my cup of hummus. The place is nice. It has Israeli music playing in the background and good crowd. Service was sub par, food was ok and prices were too high for what it was. I am gluten free so I was trying to substitute the pita in one of the dishes for something else. They were going to charge me $9 to remove pitta and add some fries to a $16 dish. I asked for the lunch special with was $2 more with French fries. I got an attitude. They brought the lunch special and forgot the drink that was supposed to come with it. The waitress seemed like she didn't care about anything, didn't want to be bothered ans was too distracted to get orders right or try to understand what I was asking for... and it's wasn't even that busy... There was a man there, maybe the owner, who was hanging out and waiting for people to leave so he can remove stuff from table. That's all he was doing. The food wasn't great. The staff was great, but the owner Giyora, sat and watched us even after I walked over to him and politely introduced myself. The owner, Giyora, was only interested in speaking to customers who looked like him. I live in town and was there with my friend who is a food critic newly arrived from France. The food was so so good. The pita was warm and the mushroom hummus was delicious. I had leftover hummus and ordered 4 more pitas. The beet & apple salad was beautifully presented and quite tasty. Water was served with a slice of lemon in tumblers which was perfect for a hot sunny day. The peanut butter and chocolate mousse jars were delicious. If it wouldn't be frowned upon I would have licked the jar cleaning. The service was spectacular as well. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Hummus was definitely the star dish which comes with 2 fluffy pita breads per platter. Table of 6 shared 2 hummus platters with some left over! I would say price wise is comparable or maybe even better than others. Entree portions were generous and sharable if you aren't a huge eater. Service was sparse but friendly and attentive. This place is okay, not bad but not amazing. I came here with my boyfriend and his sister for lunch on a Sunday around 1PM. The place was was relatively crowded, but we were able to get seated without a reservation. This place is kosher and all BYOB must also be kosher, which I thought was very thoughtful of them to put on the menu. We ordered two sandwiches (one beef and one chicken I think) along with the falafel platter. The falafel platter is basically a deconstructed falafel sandwich! The pita was okay, it didn't taste fresh but it wasn't bad. I really liked the tahini sauce that the falafel came with though! and dipping it with the Pita was really good. The falafel had a really good texture and did taste like it was made in-house. However, the falafel was REALLY salty. It's flavored super well but just... too salty. After my meal I felt terrible in terms of how much sodium I had ingested and spent the rest of my day feeling groggy. I tried my boyfriend's sandwich and felt similar thoughts that I did with the platter. Otherwise, the iranian salad that came with the platter was refreshing, although it may have also been salty too or just a lot of onions - my tastebuds have a hard time deciphering the two for some reason (oops). Again, i thought the flavors here were really good and they have a lot more options/ dishes at different price points than the nearby mediterranean place. I'd be open to giving this place another try but I really just felt an overwhelming amount of saltiness in the food I ate here. read more

We have come back here a few times now. The food remains very good. Probably the best shakshuka in the area. The most recent time that we visited, the staff at the restaurant yelled at us for having our 1-year-old's milk bottle out on the table. Apparently we are not allowed to have outside food or drink because the restaurant is not sure if the milk we brought is kosher. I guess we might come back here in a few years after our 1-year old stops drinking milk. read more

We hosted my husband's 50th birthday in their outdoor space. The owner, Giyora Malka, made planning a breeze, and the staff were wonderful. Outside was set up with a huge tent, bar area, and lounge style seating. The incredible smell from the kitchen wafted to the backyard and made us all hungry. Wish I took pictures of the incredible and abundant food but I was busy with our guests. Try their chicken shawarma pita sandwich for lunch and you won't regret it - tender succulent bits of chicken topped wee-high with super tasty white sauce, name escaping me at the moment. Their hummus rocks (well duh) and their are pictures of chick peas everywhere to goad you further into their chickpea-dom. Only thing is this place is small and parking in downtown Englewood esp. on a weekend can be a challenge... but it's worth it. Their service honestly could be better too because for a small restaurant, I've had to try to get the servers attention a multiple times over for some reason... I'd like to start by saying that I completely acknowledge and understand how challenging it is for restaurants to find workers at this time. It's hard for small businesses and I want to support them the best I can. Although, I must say that my experience last night was out of the twilight zone. The food--hummus masabacha, the smoked eggplant, their pita, tahini and amba is 100% 5 stars. It's the real deal, so I'm sad to be removing 3 stars for Hummus Elite because I will absolutely be coming back for the food and the food alone. The experience--mind boggling. Because of a language barrier, the first person we saw did not understand that I asked for a table for 2 outside. She stared into the air, so I simply grabbed 2 menus myself and walked out to a table. The same lady came over to bring us bread and water and we asked for a cup of ice and plates--again, she did not understand and walked away. A new server came over and greeted us and then eventually a different server took our order (which was also a little confusing with 3 different people tending to the table). We noticed that the original lady was continuing to have the same issue with every table outside. She was responsible for bringing the food , however, the problem was that not only was she bringing the wrong food to the tables or not knowing where to go, but when a guest would tell her that it was the wrong order or if they asked for help, she simply couldn't understand or resolve anything, leaving the guests baffled. In fact, it got to a point where the other guests took matters into their own hands and started exchanging food with each other--for example, the table next to us had our order, so they chuckled and walked over to bring it to us when we realized they had our dish. Every new table that sat down had the same experience when asking her for an item or had a question. I actually felt really bad for her because she was clearly lost but it was not a good look for the place. Given the size of the restaurant, I personally think they only really needed 2 servers because having the extra help actually hurt their business and only caused guests to have a confusing experience. Again, I realize times are hard and this is not a reflection of their food quality so I hope that they continue to do well in that regard and hope that I'll be back...at least for some hummus to go. read more

Hummus Elite is a reliable spot for Mediterranean food. The owner/chef is from Israel and shares her authentic dishes with Englewood. It is the best hummus in the area in my opinion. The falafel is always crispy and fresh. The roasted eggplant is perfectly spiced over a bed of tahini sauce. The food is always fresh and plentiful. I never leave hungry. The vegetable soup is one of my go to's. It is filled with big chunks of hearty veggies that sits in a flavorful broth that is not too salty. Yesterday I tried the beet walnut salad, which I was underwhelmed by. The dressing was very sweet and the beets were sparse and chopped really small. The food here is tasty. I ordered the Kofta Kabab sandwitz to take out. As soon as I took the first bite O knew the Kotfa was cooked way in advance, hard and dry Kabab is not what I expected. Un eatable Kabab, I tasted like old left over... On a scale of 1-10, the sandwich was no more than 2, simply lousy and very expensive on top of it.. We also had hard time getting the order as the guy in the front only spoke Spanish... To sum it up, Cheap labor non speaking English gave me dry and left over Kofta Kabab for almost $20.00....never again for me ! read more

The absolute worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. They served my daughter and I raw food. The dough was burnt on the outside and raw inside. The meat was sour tasting . I politely explained why we couldn't eat our food. The food was not safe to eat. We were told that it was cooked properly. I would love to see the manager consume that meat. It was extremely sour tasting. I told the manager I didn't feel safe eating this food and I certainly didn't want my daughter eating it. They brought the check over to me.
