There were no public restrooms available here. I wonder if I'm no longer part of the "public" once I pay. I didn't have to go, but I'd like to think that Sababa Grill would let me use their restroom after spending over $50. I'm a pretty clean and cheap restroom goer. I don't use much toilet paper and try to flush as little as possible while also being mindful of clogging. I clean up any mess that I leave behind. Sometimes I'll even clean up another person's mess. It's not out of the goodness of my heart. It's mostly out of fear that I walk out and there is someone that goes in right after me. I don't want them to think that I was the person that made the mess. All I'm trying to say is that I'm good at going to the restroom, but I wasn't always like this. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've made a mess of some restrooms. I knew I needed to stop when I recognized how upset I would get when someone else would leave a mess behind. I was being a complete hypocrite. Anyway, I wanted Sababa Grill to know that if they let me use their restroom, I would have left it spotless. To be honest my rating is solely based on one item on their menu -- their falafel. As a vegetarian there are enough options in the Middle Eastern cuisine (hummus, babagnoush, etc.) to complete a meal but I enjoy their falafel the most and would recommend to anyone to go there for just the falafel (and bischoff's ice cream after). The falafel is served in a nice warm fluffy pita, plentiful chickpea balls, hummus, salad and a side of tahini and hot sauce to add as you go. It's a great local authentic spot with decent service. read more

We've been VERY PATIENT with this place and finally have had enough. We've ordered about a dozen times over the past year or two and EACH TIME they have messed up our order. I'm not saying missing a sauce I mean sauces and sandwiches completely wrong. Their phones were down yesterday and so were their cc machines... fine I get things happen. My dad went there to order and pick up. I gave my order directly to the boy twice and had him repeat it. They STILL forgot the salad side and messed up two out of the three sandwiches. I was a bit hesitate since I don't love the cuisine and came here for lunch with a big group of us since everyone voted yes for it but me. We just found our own seats since no one showed us to one. The waitress was young and very friendly but seemed a bit timid. Oddly our friend only ordered a soup and that came out before all our meals. So, she was trying to be polite and her soup got cold while we all were waiting for our sandwiches. However, when my sandwich came (the falafel mixed with shwarma) - it was awesome. It was huge and extremely filling. The tahini sauce was delicious. The grape leaves we got were really good as were the French fries here (though a bit pricy for the French fries). I would definitely return though and now look forward to it! I'll be the one voting yes for this spot now! read more

Outstanding, authentic, natural, freshly home-made Middle Eastern cuisine and other kinds of foods. Everything is made from scratch. The falafel is excellent. The soups are also excellent, such as lentil, vegetable barley and the unique Yemenite chicken soup is fantastic with chunks of potatoes, carrots, and shredded chicken. Though the food is great.... they are very racist. You feel such awful pressure walking in there if you are not Jewish. They have a menu that you are not allowed to order from if you are not Jewish and they speak down on you as if you are an outcast. What can I say other than the greatest falafel sandwich I have ever had. Get the sandwich on whole wheat pita, you will not find any better.

The hummus is unique, made with fresh ingredients and my dad called it the best he's ever had (I'm not a hummus connoisseur but it tasted pretty good to me too!) The owner was very friendly and chatted with us while taking our order. My dad (vegetarian) had the falafel sandwich and I had the beef kebab sandwich. Both were delicious, and we got the larger size. It was definitely a full meal-- go with the pita size unless you're feeling very hungry. Definitely will go back again. Great meal. read more

What a great find and way to celebrate a birthday! The mushroom barley soup and hummus were a great way to start the meal. The fresh pita bread was excellent. For my entree, I had "Danny's Special", which really is if you like shawarma, fried onions and jalapeño peppers (as I do) with french fries and Israeli salad on the side. Everything we tried was very fresh and flavorful here. I also need to mention that our server was very attentive throughout the meal. We used to come here a lot a few years ago and I don't even remember why we stopped coming as the food is great. We started out with the combo platter as an appetizer and the portions were generous and delicious. All freshly made. Both my husband and I had the mixed grill, he in a laffa and me on a plate. On the plate I also had rice and lentils with Israeli salad. All was excellent, freshly made and delicious. The decor is ok and family style but that adds to the charm. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is I'm always looking for places to bring friends who don't keep kosher and it has to be up to the great non-kosher standards. The food definitely was but the service was so-so. Yes, the waitress was attentive but she forgot to bring the extra spice, and harif we ordered. I was also surprised there was only one pita in a basket for the entire mixed combo plate. All the wait staff were in the back talking and not really paying attention to the dining room. Food was good and service was great. I dropped my silverware and without even asking the waiter replaced both the fork and knife. The food came out quickly without any issues. Price is pretty decent for a kosher joint nothing too nuts. The portion size was very average and quite frankly I was still a bit hungry when I left. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The best hummus and Moroccan eggplant salad I've had locally. The soups are great. The Friday night takeout offerings are very "home style" food, with quality ingredients used. Best service ever I travelled from NY and came to Cali for vacation and wouldn't leave until I tried Sababa and honestly it was the best falafel sandwich I ever had. Gotta say this place is as authentic as it gets. Great food, delicious and made like someone actually cared about it. Nicely plated (this matters to me...) I had an amazing burger, was fresh and juicy and tasty. And never underestimate fries which are actually made in-house. It's an effort but so so tasty. Also had some techina to dip them in (which I love), was also definitely home-made. It's a good thing I don't live in Teaneck or I'd be here four times a week easy. Service problem We took Yemeni soup, Lentils soup, Baby chicken skewers, and Lamb skewers. Soups were mediocre: the taste of the Yemeni soup was not pleasant, the Lentils were too firm. The meats were really tasty. At 7:45pm the workers started to clean tables and put chairs on top of the tables. Then they started to sweep the floor. The place is small, and they were sweeping not far from us. I asked the worker to stop sweeping and let us finish. He stopped and walked away. In a few minutes he came back and continued to sweep. I asked him again not to do it while we are sitting there. At that point a lady proprietor came out and told me that they will not wait for me to sit there and talk, they have to clean and go home. My plate was still half full. I showed it to her, she shrugged her shoulders and started to sweep herself. I told her that she is rude, she immediately told that I am rude and weird! I grew up with dishes like these- hummus, babaganoush, coos coos, kababs, etc. I've also been to more then one restaurant that have similar styles, but amongst them all, I have to say this one beats them all! My family and I came for Mother's Day. It was 10 of us at the table and we could be a demanding type (lol) but the waitress was so patient and so professional, which made it an even better experience. The food was top notch- my husband (that is Chinese) said "this is the best humus I've ever had! My response was "of course, it's made by Israelis." Typical Israeli greed at its best. Ordered the meorav...its a an Israeli mix of meats that we eat I Israel all of our life. Its almost a tradition to eat meorav in Israel.. So here I go, ordering my good not even looking at the menu.. I know what is meorav, they know what is meorav... Should be really simple. I get my meal, and its blown up with mushrooms... I am allergic to mushrooms. Who in the world put mushrooms in a meorav? I will tell you who! Greedy owner, that want to put as little meet as possible, and put mudroom to make you feel as if you got a big sandwich. Its sure looks like meet, but its mushroom. Ii told her that I can not eat mushroom, and I had to beg for a different sandwich. Salads were on the table, we had to ask for bread piece by piece. 2 people at the table and we get one piece of bread to share at a time. Greed , greed , greed. Poorly served, poorly treated .. Disgusting. Simply disgusting. After pleading and begging, the owner finnaly gave authorization to the poor lazy to make a real meorav sandwich. It came 20 min after my girlfriend finished her meal.... Which was good actually.. The salads were great and even the sandwich was good but their prices are ridiculous!! The are ripping you off... Came for late lunch on 1/29/2014. Ordered, what was titled by a lady who helped me at the counter, as vegetable with lentils soup (I indicated that I would like to get a boiling hot soup) and a platter of Shawarma with side orders of Majadra and Israeli chopped salad. I got a lukewarm bowl of SWEET vegetable soup - the vegetables were mostly carrots - hence the sweet taste. Adding salt did not improve the mediocre taste. Than came the platter: A tremendous pile of what was supposed to be fresh, straight of the pit Shawarma - these were crumbs of dry meat that look like they were collected from the fall outs of when the Shawarma was sliced earlier in the day. Next to it was something that I have yet to come up with a description that will not bring the vomiting feeling back to me - a huge pile of white rice topped with some brown, gooey mixture that brought to mind something I prefer not to spell out here. Needless to say I did not touch it and left without having my $24.00 lunch. I was asked by a guy if I want to take the food home, when I refused he asked if something is wrong, I said yes, it is not edible - at the restaurant they could not care less. I mentioned to the counter lady that this is not Majadra and the response was this is our style of Majadra. I said again, this is not Majadra but she insisted it is. Also, when I mentioned that the Shawarma was dry and disgusting she claimed it was not dry. I paid and left and could not wait to get to my computer to post this review.
