It's not Olive Tree anymore is under the new owner and name " Yasmeen Mediterranean cuisine" I have to say that food was delicious and very tasty. The ambience was clean and very welcoming with a pretty decor. Service was our concern!! We asked twice for an ice bucket for our wine never arrived. Maybe was language issue not understanding what we asked but we did ask also in their own language and never got it lol they seem to be very confused and not sure how to place customers seated to us and 2 more families afters. İ felt like İ was not in NJ but in the mediterranean. Greeted with smiles, I already liked the place. Small but cozy, even has outdoor seating. From the hot bread and olive oil starter, to the appetizers everything was delish. The meat was just cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy.. and then finishing off with dessert and turkish tea was the way to end the night. The muhammara dip with the fresh bread was SO GOOD. Will be thinking about it for awhile. The dip was made of blended walnuts and roasted red bell peppers, topped with pomegranate sauce for a unique tangy sweetness. The grilled octopus was so tender (the best we've had). Where things fell short were the babaganoush (weirdly smokey) and the garlicky creamy chicken (we were expecting more sizeable cuts and not cubes). The meat was tough and the dish was giving kung pao chicken but make it with cream of mushroom. We'll still recommend going to Olive Tree, though -- the latter was just not the right order/ what they're known for. Everything else truly was good and garnered compliments from our party. While looking for a lunch spot near our home, found this new restaurant in Cresskill. It was opened a couple months ago. It still has it glossy new appearance. The restaurant is very pretty inside, filled with bright sunlight shining on the white interior. The menu is short but has good variety of appetizers, entrees, desserts, sides and drinks. We started with the eggplant salad. A mashed eggplant dish that tasted okay to me. The grilled octopus was the best dish. It was cooked perfectly, but had lots of other veggies on the plate that didn't seem appealing to me. For entree we got the Olive tree combination that included chicken gyro, lamb shish and adana kebab. Lamb shish was the best one out of the three, adana was good but little inconsistent from piece to piece, chicken was very dry inside, though it had nice seasoning. The pita on the plate and the complementary bread at the start l, both were excellent. Our server was wonderful, had a nice service. Food came out within short time. Last month I learned the meaning of "padding the bill". A group of ladies, celebrating a birthday in this nearly empty restaurant, were billed an additional, unexpected charge for our dinner. It was secretly determined that we hadn't ordered enough entrees. We were NEVER informed, nor was it published anywhere, that there would be a minimum charge expectation. Additionally, the staff refused to contact the manager, claiming that he couldn't be reached...seriously?? The falafel platter as a main course was a joke. One usually would expect a platter to come with a variety of items like babaganoush, grape leaves, tzatziki. This "platter" was only 8 falafel patties and some hummus and rice. Falafels were dry and tasteless. Atmosphere was nice but only 2 other tables had dining customers on a Saturday night. Olive Tree is a neighborhood BYOB on Union Ave in Cresskill , where my friends and I went to celebrate one of our bdays tonight. The food was fine ( not great or memorable) , the ambiance was pleasant enough, and the service was ok . When the bill came our first mistake was to hand our credit cards to the server without examining the details of the bill . We were shocked when we noticed that they charged us $70 , ten dollars per person, because each person did not order her own main dish . Instead we had decided to share multiple apps, a couple of main dishes, and multiple desserts. Had we known they would charge us an extra $ 70 for doing that, clearly we would not have done it! We naturally asked them to reconsider, since we had no knowledge of this policy, and to recalculate our bill , which Olive Tree refused to do. Our second mistake was to sign the bill and add a gratuity , as is customary in the USA, but the server had already calculated and added the gratuity to our bill. Some of the ladies attempted to reason with the server , reiterating that we knew nothing of the $10 surcharge for not ordering a main dish beforehand since no one had bothered to make us aware of the policy before ordering , but the server insisted that it was like this "EVERYPLACE" and refused to budge. We asked to speak to the owner or manager , but apparently he was not there, and NO ONE had his phone number. Can you imagine ? I couldn't , so I tore up my bill along with the merchant copy and left the restaurant Clearly , I will never return but if you decide you absolutely must have mediocre Turkish food , and go to Olive Tree in Cresskill you will at least be aware of the policy - $10 per person added to the bill for anyone not ordering a main dish! read more

Absolutely the best falafel! An improvement would be a better pita bread which they send gratis with the Falafel and baba ghanoush. The Baba ghanoush is the best I've tasted in all of New Jersey and Brooklyn. They should find out where Café Angelique gets their pita bread because it's absolutely the best. Includes soup or delicious salad, choice of several mouth watering appetizers, and a generous main course beautifully prepared and presented.
