We had a magnificent lunch at Mado on River Edge, New Jersey to celebrate my friend's 60th birthday. The interior of this restaurant is beautiful. Our server was attentive to all of our needs. We realized that they have lunch specials for $22 each in which you receive a Shepard's salad, an appetizer and a main course with a drink and delicious bread. There were many different options to choose from, but I decided upon the Shepard's salad, stuffed grape leaves and the chicken kebab with rice. We were served an absolute ton of delicious savory food. The chicken was perfectly seasoned! We ended up having a birthday tartufo with sparklers on top to celebrate my friend's birthday. It was a great lunch and I would highly recommend going to Mado's particularly at lunchtime for their $22 special. read more

The food, service, and ambience were all a treat. We had the muhamarra, lamb manti, mixed pide and halva ice cream--all delicious and satisfying. Our servers were attentive, and helpful with any questions and requests. The actual restaurant is so spacious and elegantly decorated. I love all the artwork and unique touches. The restaurant is easily located on Kinderkamack Rd River Edge with handicapped parking in front and ample parking around back. The restaurant is pretty inside with a bright and clean Mediterranean feel. The service was exceptional, quick and professional. The food was plentiful and delicious. We started with an assortment of dips served with a plateful of very light and warm pita, dynamite shrimp and an amazing chopped Greek salad. Several of us opted for the Bronzino, and a couple had kabobs. We ended with a bite of baklava and coffee/tea. The prices are reasonable and food plentiful and we had left overs to go! Mado has been one of my go to places for amazing authentic Armenian cuisine. This place has been highly recommended by my in-laws and after going multiple times I've finally came around to writing a review. The restaurant is huge on the inside great for bringing friends and family. We've had parties here with up to 20+ people and they were able to accommodate. The food is always epic and I highly recommend the chicken shish kebab. The chicken kebab is by far the most tender chicken I've ever had. What a hidden gem! Great service and delicious meal! We loved having an early dinner around 5:30p Saturday night. Definitely got packed by 6:30p. No reservations though. We loved the appetizer we got. Cheese rolls were fresh and hot. I thought the cheese was a little salty but my hubby loved it. The dinner meals were great. We ordered Adana kebab and lamb shish with gyro platters. Both were fantastic. The sauce was amazing as well. All in all we were very happy with finding this place. The dessert was also amazing. 3 of us went last Saturday night. My brother in law just moved right near by. We live about 15 minutes away. It was a last minute thing. We tried to get into Sanducci's but there was a huge line. Parking in the area is tight in front, but they have a big parking lot behind. Nice clean big room, not a lot of atmosphere. This is a byob, so always a plus and we bought some better wine. They bring the bread pretty quickly and it's a puffy bread, never heard of it, but it really good We shared the apps; hummus, Shepard salad and a kebbeh. Never hears of the kibbeh before. It was alright, my brother in law loved it. The hummus and Shepard salad was very good For entrees we shared the chicken/ lamb kabob and the mixed meats. Again all very good, and the portions were very large. We have many Mediterranean restaurants near us, but I'd rate this very near the top and so affordable. 128 dinner for 3 plus another dinner we took home. We had the mixed grill($48). It was good. We ordered the lamb rare and it came back medium-well. The chicken was very tasty. They did not have gyro meat on a Saturday, the menu stated the have gyro available Fr-Su. The bulgar wheat came out at the very end of our meal. The white sauce was above average. The rice was excellent. The puffy bread was fresh and tasty, but it wasn't something I need to have again. The waitstaff were excellent, but the food took forever. We arrived early and there was only 4 other people seated at another table. We were only 2 people and only ordered the mixed grill, it took nearly 40 minutes for our food to come out. They did apologize for the wait. We didn't mention it, but it was disappointing to wait so long for overcooked lamb. There was no sear to the lamb. The restaurant is nice, it looks perfect for an event. I do not plan on returning. It was a very nice presentation, but I do not feel like I got a good value for my money. And I do not like waiting for overcooked meat. The bright side is that the food didn't sit well with me, but at least I know it wasn't from undercooked lamb. I believe the other reviewers when they give it 4 or 5 stars, but it simply was not my experience. read more

I've been to many Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants in the area but I wanted to try something new. Found great reviews on here for this place so I went with a couple of friends. We parked in the lot behind the restaurant and entered into the beautiful space. it's more upscale than your other restaurants of this nature however not fancy. We were seated, given menus and wine glasses however the waiter took some time to come over to open the bottle and talk to us. We ordered a few apps to start; spicy pepper salad which is very mild in heat and tasted like a delicious fresh salsa and eggplant salad which was delicious on the warm bread they brought and kept refreshing, so light and airy. For dinner I ordered the Chicken and Lamb Adana combination. Both meats were extremely tender and flavorful and the seasoned onions were perfect to add a crisp bite. My friends shared the next Grimm and they loved it. We were way too full to order dessert but we thoroughly enjoyed everything. The only complaint I have is that the waiter again took a very long time to bring our check after we told him we weren't having dessert. read more

We ordered hummus, eggplant salad, shepherd salad, lebne to start with. They serve the appetizers with their puffed bread. Omg I never had such thing anywhere else here in the US! Sooo good! Their hummus was one of the best! Smooth, creamy, and you definitely don't get that sour taste that you get at some places. If you like eggplant, you MUST try their eggplant salad in which you're gonna feel the taste of fresh lemon juice and olive oil... My mouth is watering writing these lol. Then we had fried liver, calamari, and small lahmacun.. everything was sooooo fresh and tasty! I heard that their stuffed cabbage is very famous and popular, but we had one person in the group who was picky, so I will try it next time! Well.. on top of all these.. we ordered mixed grill.. but honestly we were sooo full, so had it packed for to go, and ordered desserts instead lol. I had it for lunch the next day, and loved it! Especially the chicken shish, and lamb shish were soo soft, and tasty even the day after! And finally we crowned the dinner with some Kazandibi.. While I generally agree with all the good reviews, one negative aspect stood out to me. The dining room was very big but acoustics were terrible. The place was pretty full when we went with another couple and I had a hard time hearing them throughout the meal. The crowning touch was when they blasted a rock version of Happy Birthday on the speaker system for a child which completely disrupted our meal. Nice and warm when I arrived and it was right on time. The attendant was very friendly and quickly processed payment. He offered me coffee or tea as I waited which was also very nice. I declined. The food came out about two minutes after I arrived. The chicken was well marinated and juicy. The rice was flavorful and I loved the side of onions. The salad was good. It had a nice lemon/vinegar flavor. I am Not sure what the dessert is... it tastes sweet with a hint of nutmeg or cinnamon. It was a nice gesture. The bill totaled about $66. The bread is soft and looks buttery. Tastes fresh. I will be eating the bread for breakfast toasted with a side of coffee. ;) I did not get pictures of the restaraunt but it looks nice. This restaurant was my wife's and my go to for Mediterranean food. Thursday night we went with friends who also went here a lot. My wife and I got the Sheppard salad and chicken shish to share. The Sheppard salad had zero taste. All we tasted was cucumber and tomato. No seasoning as it was prior. The chicken shish was inedible due to a tremendous over seasoning. We thought we were eating a salt shaker. We got another shish with no seasoning and the chicken tasted burnt. This will be our last time as this once favorite restaurant. read more

My partner, our friends and I been to Mado on numerous occasions and decided on dinner tonight. We were a party of six, and reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, by calling the restaurant. The menu is comprised of some of the most popular Armenian dishes. Our meal began with the complimentary freshly baked balloon-like pita bread called Lavaş, sometimes called "balloon bread. As a starter, we decided on the stuffed grape leaves and lebne (thick yogurt, walnuts, and mint with a hint of garlic and salt). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Shish Kebab, Gyro Platter, Chicken Shish Kebab with Yogurt, Beef Shish Kebab (Filet Mignon), and Tilapia. We even had room for desserts and ordered the Kunefe (shredded wheat with melted cheese in between 2 layers, topped with sweet syrup and pistachios) and Baklava. We can't say this enough: every single item coming out of the kitchen is pure perfection, as everything is always fresh and delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful. Portions are generous. Without explanation, one of us was served habiniero instead of the regular peppers, and it burned. They were busy, the servers were hustling and could have been a BIT more attentive about refilling the water, and we weren't rushed. Prices were not cheap but worth it. If you love Armenian, Turkish, or Mediterranean food, this is your choice in Bergen County, which we could recommend. read more

I usually get the combo platter with Adana kebab and chicken and it is amazing. The chicken is so juicy and the kebab is packed with flavor. My friends and I went there for lunch today. We all ordered the lunch's special which was a great deal. Comes with a dip and puffy bread (first time eating it) a salad, entree and drink. Two of us ordered iced tea which the waiter never came with. At the end of the meal we told him and ordered 4 coffees instead. Then we were sitting and chatting and he asked if we wanted another coffee. Three of us out of 4 ordered another one. It wasn't until afterwards that we realized they charged us for the second cups of coffee. I thought that was very tacky. Considering that he forgot the iced teas, the least they could have done was give us a complimentary cup of coffee. I also wasn't crazy about my chopped chicken entree. Nothing special. read more

After half a dozen tries since they opened -- I'm convinced that Mado serves up the best and most consistent Turkish food in the area. Sara is the ubiquitous hostess with the mostest -- always pleasantly chatty and she doubles as server and busses tables too. High energy and fun. Whatever wrinkles I noted in my earlier review have been ironed out in the kitchen and the overall experience is now a solid 5 stars. Anything with lamb is always perfectly executed here, whether shank, chops or Adana kebob. Never dry and always seasoned authentically. The braised shank is fall off the bone tender and remains my fave. Their bronzino is grilled simply and served whole -- the fish is splendidly fresh and while I don't care for picking through bones -- it eats great. If you like eggplant -- get the chefs special warm eggplant swirled in cacik and thank me later. Mado will serve you plenty of crispy -- house baked pide to mop. And of course the basic lahmacun and the various loaded versions of Pide on the menu are a meal in themselves. Not every Turkish joint offers this "Turkish Pizza" but Mado has certainly perfected theirs. Great room and BYO are a plus -- as is the ample parking. Great for a crowd.
