Might not need to fix my bike anymore... recently I got into an accident... bike would not start after being laid down... I think it's the tilt sensor or kick stand sensor that got messed up... so I called... great guy answered the phone... very good customer service, told me he's going on vacation for spring break with his kids, but I can leave my bike in the garage. I got the bike fixed on my own but their customer service is definitely worth commenting about since I couldnt get it fixed there anymore, this is the least I can do! Having gone through the trials and tribulations of fixing my bikes in the street, bringing it into shops, jockeying for lift time, and general tomfoolery that comes with an old bike, I wanted to find a nice shop to reliably go back to when issues come up that are beyond my ability to diagnose. Vax is just that. You'll need to generally understand what you're talking about to be able to get your bike fixed right here, but if you can't and you have the time (you better make the time if you want to ride your old junker more than a year, anyway, or just get a new Ninja), they'll explain your bike to you. I've got a very special (at least to me) old "great condition" Suzuki. Of the many issues that these bikes shipped with, I never thought that a brighter headlamp bulb would be the root of my battery drain issues. If I hadn't brought the bike in to Justin & co, I probably would have spend weeks trying to figure that out. They kept the bike normal "shop time" for the beginning of the bust season - about 4 days over the stated ETA - but again, if you aren't willing to put some patience in on your bike, just get a brand new fuel-injected one and take it back to the dealership. This shop is all the way across town for me, but I'll certainly be coming back to learn more. read more

One star it's too much to this "shop"/"mechanics" I have honda crf250r i give him my bike only because the reviews here. The bike was starting and working and running but not running good because the carb or valves And I told to the guy I don't won't to spend more than 200$ to fix it Let me know about everything you doing Because I just move from CALIFORNIA And I'm short of money. First... only after 2 weeks he started to work on the bike He call me after 4 weeks First he saying "i don't know the problem it's maybe the top and completely " (The easy answer for mechanic) I told him it's can't be the piston because the compression it's very good (I working in mechanic shop 5 years ago i have some experience but not ave time ) Anyway I asked him about the price to fix He told me 2850$ !!!!! Without blinking!!! (I checked with other mechanics this not more than 1000$ ) And if you don't won't to fix is 550$ 550$ !!!!!!! No, I'm not going to pay this price!! He told me " you came to here with Cadilac Escalade and now you Afraid to spend $550" He's really rude !!! He judges people by money And he didn't fix the bike !!!! And He give me the bike with open engine!!! The plastics non installed!!!!! And I threw $ 315 For all his failing work!!!! I have been checking out Vax Moto at a distance for some time now. I am the kind of person who would have a permanent slip here if it was possible. I live three hours away and it just is not practical. I visited with my collaborator and we were very fortunate to get a nice tour from Justin. Simply put, this concept is extraordinarily well thought out and really works. It is sort of communal, but technically a club. The real estate in this area is so incredibly pricey the monthly rate is a bargain. The real value is in the community it creates. Guys (and some women) who appreciate motorcycles. Justin pointedly said "We don't discriminate here, whatever you ride is your business." He was not kidding I saw a half dozen of bad ass choppers that hold their own against any others out there, vintage original and running bikes dating back to the 50s and everything in between. Some in various states of repair and others basically pristine. My stop here made my day. I took the train into the city to spend the weekend, grabbed the F train out of Grand Central, it was that easy. If you like bikes and live commutable by the subway. It really would be great to consider. I often say, I don't like to give 5 Stars etc... In this case, I wish I had another to tag on. read more

VAX is just about everything I got into motorcycles for. This place is perfect for anyone who needs a spot to work on their bike, build one from the ground up, or just have a secure place to store it. I came across VAX when I ended up with a non running '79 Suzuki from a guy's back yard. Fortunately for me the bike was sitting just a mile or two from the shop but after taking it there and being around the place for the few months it took me to rebuild the bike I would gladly truck a bike across several counties knowing I will have everything I need at VAX. Justin has a great attitude and loves bikes. The community coming in and out of the place is a walking encyclopedia of motorcycle knowledge and experience with no BS attitude. The shop has just about every tool, welder, and blaster you could ask for as well as a tire changing station and 3 bike lifts. 24 hour access with security cameras and a high powered alarm system. I just rolled the Suzuki out and I'm already excited for the next bike I'll be chopping at VAX! read more

I dont even know where to start.....Vax Moto has EVERYTHING you need to build a bike from the ground up. 3 hydraulic lifts, sand blaster, welder, drill press, a virtual "home-depot" of tools and enough space to play an arena football game. 24/7 Video monitored, secured key card access, leather sofas, pool table, fooseball table, fridge (stocked w/ water, sometimes beer) bathroom, and enough outlets to host a laser light show. and its cheaper than any other place in the city. 3 blocks off 278 it is the only place to store or work on your bike. There is a mechanic on call for those problems you cant solve, but this is primarily a bike shop for the novice or gear head and all feel right at home. Heard about this place from watching Ride with Norman Reedus. Thought I would do the tourist thing and check it out. Plus Vax tacos for lunch. Their hours list they were open so I walked a mile in the freezing cold to find them closed and really don't even think they are a business any longer? Called phone number listed while standing outside their door and goes to a fax machine sound. Mail notices were stuck on the door like no one had been there. Had a rear tire issue, a sissy bar screw was shredding it slowly. Went to these guys cause they were closeby where I broke down. Were pretty cool and changed my rear tire after a few days. Cost me an arm and a leg, but I was happy to pay since they were so nice and were able to squeeze me in without appt. Come to find out today that not only was a FRONT tire installed in the REAR, but it was also installed BACKWARDS. Meaning all that water I'm meaning to send away from the center of the tire was being funneled straight into the impact zone. I mean what kind of careless work is this? i'm not a professional and my eye doesnt catch these things right away. Been riding a death trap for months. Also on the install the wiring to rear turn signals was fussed with and now my Right rear turn signal's wiring is shredded. Thanks for nothing. More work than before. read more

If anybody would ask me a place to get their motorcycle or scooter fixed, this is the place i would recommend. My scooter got its headlight stolen a couple of months ago and I immediately took it into Vax. It took a couple of months for the parts to get in and Justin was really cool about everything. I got it back working better than ever and everyone at Vax is super friendly and helpful and its not overcrowded like some other shops where I've have taken my scooter. If you need a spot to store your bike, this is the only place you should look. Awesome group of people and Justin (the owner) is a great guy. He's always willing to help out whenever he can. People with a wide range of knowledge park their bikes there but everyone is treated exactly the same. The location is great (right around the corner from a gas station) and the building is very secure so you never have to worry about storing your gear there and having it walk off. Can't say enough great things about Vax. You get your own personal slip and storage shelf with plenty of elbow room, great security & access for members, top notch work area with 3 lifts, and most importantly, a great community with superb moto culture. This review is well overdue. I used Vax Moto some time ago to store my new bike here for a couple days while I shipped it out of state to my place. Justin was great and very helpful during the whole process., as I wasn't in the state and needed someone present to release the bike to the shipping company when they arrived. Called some places before Vax Moto and they all turned me down. Called Justin and he was totally cool w/ it, and at a better rate then most of the others. If I ever end up moving back to NYC, I will def be storing and working on my bike there. Love the concept of his place! Really wish we had something like that here in LA!! read more

VAX Moto -- guy-owned and guy-populated, but very woman-friendly. Never for one minute have I felt "less than" because I am a woman, and of a certain age at that. Justin and his team are warm, helpful, and honest. I am a beginner, and Justin helped me find the right bike for me (a vintage 1974 Honda) and has been very generous with advice. Do not bring your bike here to get fixed. I searched all over Yelp and Google reviews to find the best possible place to trust my motorcycle with, and this was the only place that had only 5 star reviews. So, I was surprisingly dismayed when I experienced the worst customer service of my life during my long and unnecessarily painful experience with Vax Moto. Not to mention my bike is in far worse shape than when I brought it there. Every time I reached out over email, text, and phone call Justin treated me as a big annoyance instead of the paying customer I was. He repeatedly told me not to contact him... while my motorcycle was in his shop. Eventually he finished, I paid, and he said the bike was safe to drive home back to New Jersey from Brooklyn. Later I found out the bike wasn't worked on by Justin.. I made it through the Lincoln tunnel while my bike was smoking the whole time and then, my bike completely stopped. It was a miracle I was not injured that day, as I quickly was able to pull my bike over. So, not only was I treated with disrespect and disregard throughout the entire time my bike was in the shop, but I also could have lost my life or been severely injured as a direct result of their work. I am writing this review because I do not want anyone to go through the same experience as me. I aim to give perspective within these reviews that, from my experience, are all significantly misleading. read more

I bought a bike, my first one earlier this year and stumbled upon Vax on a daily ride. Went right in and introduced myself to Justin since I live in the neighborhood and instantly found what I was looking for. Community, guidance, storage. No high-brow attitudes. Justin wasnt trying to sell me anything he simply said hey whatever you need just come on by anytime. And true to his word I started going to Vax and educating myself on motorcycles. I've had some upgrades done to my Moto Guzzi that Justin helped me do at a fraction of the usual exorbitant dealership price. I'm working on getting a second project bike while my Guzzi is stored at Vax for the winter. A slip and a space to work and learn is what I will get at Vax Moto since I have never worked on bikes before. The environment at Vax is what is allowing me to take this next big step and start to do basic modifications to this 2nd winter project bike. Mirroring other reviews-- great experience with Vax and the owner, Justin. Great community all around from the second you walk in. The bikes and riders are totally diverse from sport bikes and occasional scooter to harleys and choppers. Everyone I met in the time I kept my bike there was super friendly, and like someone else said, no pretension whatsoever. Sadly this was a big difference from other garage spaces I visited in Brooklyn over the years. I had 24 hour access to my bikes, which meant getting back late was no big deal. Got a key and would just run in and pop open the garage door and ride in. Even getting work done at 3am was totally okay-- and a lot of time I would run into others thinking similarly. 4 motorcycle lifts, all the tools you need, and a great community of people around to ask for the occasional hand when you need it. Besides just the shop space, it's totally normal to see people hanging out or bbqing on weekends, which is great for a lazy saturday changing the oil and messing around. Can't recommend Vax enough. If I hadn't moved out of NY I would absolutely still be there. read more
