This time I had the absolute worst meal I've ever had there (or anywhere for that matter) Not sure what happened to the quality or quality control. I ordered the 5-piece Tenders Meal with tater tots. What I got were tough strips of chicken that seemed like they had been laying around for a while and then dunked back in the grease to get them hot. There were some tater tots (cold and greasy), one (yes one) sad looking limp french fry, a one-inch round onion ring that tasted like someone accidentally spilled syrup or something sweet on it, and a piece of bread that seemed more like a limp day-old pancake. Left a bad taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively.

I'm a cancer patient and cannot consume Salt because of the damage the Chemotherapy caused to my Kidneys. Both my girlfriend and I told the inept waiter that I CAN'T HAVE SALT. Simple order, bring the salads then the Tuna Tartare appetizer but when It was time for the Tuna Tartare this inept waiter brings some weird looking block of way under cooked Tuna claiming it was Tuna Tartare. I was obvious not Tuna Tartare. We were both really hungry so we made the stupid mistake of trying it and it wasn't good at all and knowing it was the wrong order. About half way through this block I noticed it tasted really salty and I asked my girlfriend and her reaction was bad. Really bad. She told me to stop immediately and suggested I go the restroom and try to puke it back up but we decided to just not deal with this place and the inept waiter anymore. The inept waiter had promised me a free slice of chocolate cake for my birthday but didn't bring it. I'm in fact waving my credit card around in an attempt to pay so we could the hell out of there. The inept waiter finally returns to see if we wanted to take those salty logs with us and I told him to through them away and bring the check. Girlfriend then reminded him about the cake, AGAIN! He returns almost 10 minutes later, takes the card and runs off towards the entrance. When he reappears almost 10 minutes later and puts the folder on the table, girlfriend AGAIN asks about the cake and he says he's going to get it right now but instead he decides to take a beverage order at another and spend time doing a lot of small talk. After another 10 minutes here he comes with the cake. What is wrong with this guy? You can't leave cake out in the open air. That piece of cake was dry, stale and getting a hard crust. I ate about a third of it and we walked. NEVER in my life have I experienced this low of service. Did your inept waiter think it was funny serving some weird Ahi Salt Brick? Did he think we were joking about my condition? We're pretty sure you have cameras so see for yourself. Do not asked us to return. Do the right thing and refund those ugly, nasty logs.

Iron Skillet

Quick Review: Overall 3 stars, because it's a chain,…read moredoesn't matter if it's a Denny's or an I-Hop, the food is pretty production line quality. If you've ever been to classic diners like the ones featured on Guy Fieri's such as Sam's #3 in Aurora Colorado (miss those days living out in the Rockies), then you know that special something when you sit down and all the locals come out and congregate for brunch...well didn't get that feel here. However, 5/5 stars to the chef. Let me explain. And don't get me wrong, the server was fantastic. The setting was in the retail section of the Joplin Petro Truck Stop, being a fairly dim but rather quiet corner. In all my years of trucking, on the road, whether it be at a Denny's in a truck stop, or a Black Bear diner, Waffle House, another Iron Skillet, or i-Hop, whenever I order medium rare on a steak, it would always end up on opposite ends of the spectrum-- either very well done OR bloodshot rare. So when my server brought me a true medium rare steak, there was this aura of sacredness to it. I simply didn't expect the chef was going to make it to that likeness...and he proved me wrong. It just shows, that there are still individuals on planet Earth that know how to grill up an everyday New York steak and not destroy it. , Thank you Jesus this art form is still alive and well. But of course going back to the quality and satisfaction levels of eating the food, I still want to stick to a 3. It's a truck stop, it's a chain, it tastes very manufactured production line quality. Like if you walked into any Flying J or Pilot, whatever they have in the hot food trays, it's on par with that. Basically the Caesars Salad, the Mashed Potatoes, but the steak was how a New York strip would taste but on the saltier side. Until next time, maybe I'll check out that other diner in Barstow CA on route 66
