In addition to their hot dogs, they had other things to eat too. My kid got some fried mozzarella sticks and I got the chorizo dog, which I was happy to have, since its not available where I live. We liked the historic feel of the place (its over 100 years old) and some of the stuff hanging up on the walls, which gave it local flavor. When we were there, some of the people who worked there were hanging up a picture of a local basketball player who played in Fall River right about the time my dad was in high school; it was cool to think they might have known each other. They have a large variety of different toppings and all are reasonable priced (about $3). They have parking in the back of the building. Trucks aren't usually great, but occasionally they are. Usually overpriced and hipstery and lacking in quality or taste, but this is the opposite. Affordable, expertly made, and as authentically awesome as you could hope. Yes it's a little truck, so try not to come it's too freezing (like, 8 months of the year in these parts ugh), or if you do, I suggest eating in your car like I did. Also Smokey's is where they filmed the movie Almost Famous, obviously. And when I eat the hot dogs here, then much like Kate Hudson wearing her sexiest Fabletics outfit, I am a Golden God.

There are lots of rave reviews here, but we just don't get it. We've ordered takeout from here before and that time, too, we were not overwhelmed with joy, just kind of 'whelmed.' Very 'meh,' and with so many other incredible food establishments within a 25 minute drive in Providence or in between, or even great local spots in town, this place just doesn't hold a candle. Not worth going back. It felt like a very novice chef was at the helm and dishes lacked inspiration and new, exciting flavors that we haven't seen before.

The huge blob of homemade potatoes also got a little griddle time leaving some pleasing burnt spots here and there. And the broccoli, which they prepare chopped and seasoned was fresh and retained a nice al dente crunch (not bland and boiled to within an inch of it's life like you usually get). The brown gravy was rich and generously slathered and loaded with fresh mushrooms. Honestly, I can't say that I've ever had better. With cooking like that, I'll bet that Shannon's hubby is rocking a pretty impressive gut! I've got a pretty good appetite but there was no way I could finish this portion. I packed up a third but seriously, I should have packed half or more. And the price... under $8 as I recall (and that was pretty much the most expensive thing they offered). Place is cozy and cute. Kept pretty clean... even the bathroom. And the wait staff is pleasant and attentive. I'm going to declare Shannon's an (un)official Pawtucket "Hidden Gem" (and if you read my other reviews you'll see that I'm usually a tough grader). Go there and I bet you will too. However, there was a fellow in an electric wheelchair making his way down the ramp as we were coming up, and we all made it up (and down) easily enough with just a pause. Hostess desk is immediately in the entrance. Very personable lady said it'd be a 25-minute wait, and that was pretty accurate. I gave her my phone number and received a message to download Yelp! including a "Your place in line" feature. Benches to sit and wait - one outside and three inside. We were 4th in line, and then 2nd, and then 1st. I felt a vibration from the phone but saw no message. So I went to the desk to check, and they were ready anyhow with 4 empty tables. Seated us quickly and our waitress Ashley was there in short time. Paula (wifey) ordered some Egg Sandwich and a small order of French Toast. I ordered Southern Benedict, which was a buttermilk biscuits base, topped with a fried chicken patty, 2 poached eggs, and smothered in a creamy sausage gravy, and it came with an order of home fries. We were both very happy with the flavor and portions. In fact I was rather full and didn't eat the last 3 or 4 bites. I also had an iced coffee, which was nice and strong. The place is very much where neighbors and families meet and greet. Lot's of "Norm!!" moments. Pricing if fairly average -- it was (with a 20% tip) $45 for us two. My only complaint had nothing to do with the restaurant, but with adults who don't know how to tell a kid not to do shrill whistling in a restaurant. No more details on that. Again, not the restaurant's fault. We definitely would like to go there again, especially to order some bacon, as that, in my estimation, is a very important factor for breakfast -- I just didn't have any reason for it this time, what with the chicken and the sausage gravy.
