Ordered a fairly big catering event for the office. EASY menu to order from. We ordered the family meal for 4-6 w/ pulled pork and brisket and a few spuds w/ meat. Sides were green beans w/ bacon, potato salad, baked beans, and mac n cheese. EVERYTHING was a hit! Pulled pork was moist w/ a smoke taste and brisket was cooked well. Sides my favorite was the green beans but everyone else devoured the mac n cheese and potato salad. Baked potato was HUGE and piled high w/ meat. Everything was placed in small containers on the side including sour cream, onions, and butter. Baked potato was cooked WELL. Soft to the inside and packed very well! The ribs were tender and flavorful, but the chicken was a little dry. I also had iced sweet tea, and it was pretty bitter. My favorite was actually my sons chicken fingers. We went on a Sunday evening. The ribs were a bit dry, and not extraordinary. The fries were almost completely cold, as well as greasy and flavorless. The fried okra was so cold. The beans were at least warm, but tasted like dull canned beans. Meh. The bread was edible Texas toast. The peach green tea was badly made, and not really drinkable. I suspect it's possible that the quality may be decent during a busy time, but during a less busy time, be sure to expect lukewarm or cold food. Went to this place for the first time before an OU game. The prices were a little more than expected but I did get ribs. I got the number 3. I believe it comes with a pound of ribs, two sides and bread. This serves 2-4 people, I shared it with one other and it was a lot of food. You can prob have three people share and have enough for the food to go around. Oh man oh man. Was these ribs amazing. One sign of a good rib is when it falls off the bone. On top of that Vans has several different dipping sauce that you can have with the food which is awesome. Best time to go is between meals as the lines will be little to none and you can get your food quick. We got our food within 5 minutes and went at 3pm. Awesome! I had never rated at Van's before, but yesterday my car broke down near the Purcell location. I asked the sweet girl at the register if it was ok if I waited in a booth until my husband came to rescue me. Her response surprised me! She said "sure" and asked if there was anything she could do for me. She offered me a glass of water. A few minutes later another employee came by and asked if I was doing ok an if there was anything she could do for me! I was touched by this kid of service from two young girls! No seasoning today. Ribs were pre-cut and dried out on the sides. A day or two old. Couldn't taste any rub. I had to douse my collard greens with salt to get any flavor out of those. Cooked well just bland. With this said, the last three times I have been here the food was good. I have a problem with the lack of consistency here. When they are on their game the food is great. I gave it another try after three years and once again.... I went on Sunday 5/07/2018 at 7:30pm for just a rack of ribs because the sides have never been worth the price anywhere. I was told in the drive thru they completely out of ribs. No "I'm sorry, have a good night". Nope. Just "we're out of ribs". I said, "ok, thank you" and left. I went back the next evening because I was REALLY wanting some ribs apparently and would like to say first, the online menu prices need to be updated. The rack of ribs was $2 more than posted on Yelp. Just like three years ago the ribs were so dry that my dogs got the majority of the order. I used to go to Vans at least once a month because of the quality and size of the ribs, so it's not like I'm the kind of person who can't be pleased because I love BBQ and have gotten SO many great orders from them but I guess those days are over. The cashier was very pleasant to order with. The price isn't horrible. (I mean it is BBQ, it's not gonna be the cheapest) The food did come out very fast. I had the two meat, it came with two optional choices of meat. I chose chopped brisket and ribs. It also came with two sides, I chose curly fries and baked beans. Whenever I received my food (about 1minute and a half after ordering) my food wasn't very warm. And the ribs were not hot at all. My fries were very soggy not crisp (hot but soggy). The beans were hot and mediocre. Don't get me wrong the food is good but I feel like if I'm gonna get my food a minute and a half after ordering it should be fresh and hot. Had 18 coming for Thanksgiving this year so decided to bake one turkey and get a smoked turkey from Van's. Best decision ever!!! It was packaged with reheating instructions, and was really moist and delicious!! Everyone loved it!!! Will definitely be doing this again when needed. read more

I'm a life long Moore resident, and I was excited to see that Van's had decided to rebuild. I finally got a chance to try out the new location today and I was very disappointed with the quality. The meats tasted like they went to Wal Mart and bought the cheapest quality that they could find, the sides were undercooked, soggy and everything overall was just poor quality. I ordered the chili through the drive-through first they didn't given me enough crackers then when I drove right back through to get more crackers because They wouldn't answer me honking at wndow after they shut it, they then gave me the crackers but when I got home in 3min the chili was like it was refrigerated. Unfortunately we drive right by Backdoor BBQ on the way...should've stopped there. We had turkey, chicken, and sausage with baked beans and green beans. Van's used to be a decent BBQ place. It was a tragedy last year when the 4th St. location was destroyed and I was very enthusiastic when I saw they were building a fancy new location off of 19th St. Unfortunately, the new and improved Van's is new and improved only in terms of cosmetics. Yes, the new building is new and clean, albeit with some fake rustic flair. First, the prices are absurdly high and the portions are inexcusably small. Really, folks who like BBQ tend to have an appetite. $14 for a two-meat combo and a water? You've gotta be kidding me. I got better BBQ, and more of it, for less money in Washington, D.C. and that's really saying something. My meal included two ribs weighing 4oz including the bone and allegedly 4oz of fatty brisket, two small sides and barely-toasted Texas toast. Usually, it's the sauce that makes good BBQ. The sauce was actually pretty decent, not the best I've had but pretty good. What kills the BBQ is the complete lack of anything even resembling a smokey flavor. Do they steam it? Oven-roast it? I'm not sure, but it certainly doesn't taste smoked. I am REALLY hoping that things will come together at some point, maybe they improve how they smoke the meat and either lower the prices or improve the portions and I will certainly be back to revise my review if I happen to have a different experience in the future (it's going to be hard for me to justify dropping another $14, though). read more

I got the onion burger and a rack of ribs. I sat and ate the burger, it was very good. It was a half pound with two slices of melted cheese. To me it didn't need but one slice, it was very tender and juicy, I was very pleased. So I was hoping that the ribs would be just as good. So I went ahead and ate two ribs to see what I was in for. They were alright, but not as good as the burger was. They were not as tender as I like ribs to be, very edible but not great. I still can't say that any establishment in Okc. has great ribs on the regular anymore, but I will still continue to look for them. I will be back for a burger for sure. I ate a burger from Van's in Shawnee about four years ago and I don't remember it being as great as it was...maybe because it was only a quarter pound so not as juicy but it was good. So I'll give the burger a five-star because it is up there with the best the king of burgers, Nic's. I was excited see Van's reopen in Moore. However, our experience was not what we expected. We place an order to go, loaded baked potato and a salad with smoked chicken. While waiting for our food we tried to strike up a conversation with a man who looked to be the manager. Well he clearly didn't want to talk. Then i noticed not one employee looked like they even wanted to be there, not a single smile, actually they were all frowning. When we got home my husband's salad did not have any chicken, looking at the receipt we found the girl who helped us hadn't put it on our order. My potato was cold and dry with only about 2 small spoons of chopped beef. When my husband when back up to the store to get the chicken on his salad, he got an "oh, ok" no apology or anything. And again he tried to talk to the same manager but again he must have been to busy to talk to customers. This will be our first an last visit to Van's. Went there tonight. We'd been to the "old" one once. Didn't like it, but thought we'd try again. The table and seat (we sat at a booth) were all very sticky. I had to wash my legs when I got home. The chopped beef sandwich was very tiny and was $5.19?? It wasn't any bigger than a small burger. And there wasn't much beef on it. About 2 tablespoons, I'd estimate. I don't care for the BBQ sauce. The fries were good. Service was pretty good. Had to wait in line to get a "to go" cup. No one at the front would even look at me, or if they did, they didn't ask if I needed something.
