I'm a bbq guy and I've had it all over the country. I grew up in the Carolinas where whole hog Pulled Pork is king. I lived in Texas a couple years where Brisket is king. For the last 30 plus years I lived in Las Vegas where we had a ton of bbq restaurants featuring different regions like Texas , St Louis , Memphis , and touching on the Carolinas. Also places started by Celebrity Chefs , Mom and Pop , and Franchised Chains. Most in Vegas are more Texas style with touches of other regions for specific things or even some with an Asian Flair. Yesterday was my second visit to Billy Sims Bbq. A few people told me it wasn't very good , but I like to make my own opinion and some of the reviews I've read were half and half. I moved to Mustang 2 months ago and I've tried a couple different places and surprisingly I haven't found any really good bbq in Oklahoma and we are so close to Texas I thought it would be the same. I went to one place with my son and his wife and it was such a nice place with a small stage in the back with a 2 person band , cornhole , awards all on the wall , the whole nine yards. We got like the " Judge's Tray " with so many things to try and honestly the best thing was the chicken wings ! The sauces were heavily molasses based and not good at all. Now back to Billy Sims. Both times I've come in the employees have been really nice and informative. They also give a 10 % Military Discount and yes I'm a Veteran. My first time I got The Triple 20 Pulled Pork Sandwich with Billy's Secret Sauce ( Carolina Vinegar and Red Pepper Flake Sauce ) , with Coleslaw & comes with Provolone Cheese , but I don't eat cheese on a bbq sandwich so I had them not put that on. I also got the Mustard Potato Salad and a Dr Pepper. The sandwich was piled high and presented nicely , they didn't skimp on the meat either. It tasted pretty good and very close to the way we do it in the Carolinas. The Mustard Potato Salad was also pretty good. The dining area was clean and a few customers , but others came in to purchase to go orders. There are lots of pictures and memorabilia of his time playing football for the Oklahoma University Sooners and the Detroit Lions. He got the Heisman Trophy in 1978. Yesterday I had the Sliced Brisket Sandwich , Bbq Beans , and a Dr Pepper. They also gave me a sample of the Base Potato Salad. I like the Mustard Potato Salad a lot better. Again they gave me a nicely filled sandwich with lots of meat. I tasted it first plain and then with the 3 bbq sauces. The Brisket was a tad dry and barely any smoke. It was okay , but needed the sauces because not much seasoning on the meat itself. Original , Hot , and Hickory are the 3 sauces. I tried each and I liked the Hickory the best , but if you mix the Hickory with the Hot that is the way to go. When I came the first time they had a bottle of Cajun Chef Hot Sauce by the refill station and I tried it and it was so good I asked if they sell it or where they got it from and the employee didn't know , he just said his boss picked it up somewhere. It was the only bottle and none were on the tables. It was like Louisiana Hot Sauce , but 10 times better. I looked online and no one sells it locally , only found on Amazon. I also forgot to mention they give you pickles and onions if you want on your tray. I got the pickles both times and they are good. I love Sweet Tea and I tried theirs both times and it wasn't very good. You need good Sweet Tea at a bbq restaurant. I will be back for the Stuffed Baked Potato with Pulled Pork and I want to try the Ribs. I think Billy Sims is a reasonably priced bbq restaurant and mid quality and taste. I tried another bbq place down the street and I won't be going back to that one. They also sell a Loaded Mac n Cheese and do catering. read more

A late lunch for us was uneventful. No one else there so plenty of seating. Just moved to Mustang so trying all the places to eat. We missed the lunch special but he pointed out the all day one. So I ordered the pork sandwich with a side of beans and a drink. Husband got the Chicken one with potato salad. All ok but just boring. Missing some flavor maybe. Next visit would be a better pick, maybe a combination sandwich. This would be a good place if your in a hurry. The windows at first look were super dirty but we decided they have a film on them for Sun. Definitely need a better look to them. Bathrooms clean. Service was ok. I ordered 1/2 lb each of brisket and pulled pork to go. The portions were generous, and the guys behind the counter were friendly. Both meats were a little too lean and dry for my taste, but the sauce helped minimize the dryness and added good flavor. I'd probably ask for a fattier cut next time, but overall it was a solid experience and I'll definitely give them another try. read more

First time at Billy sims. They close at 8pm. They were out of potato's by 6:30, no pulled pork. I placed an order around 6:45. They called me at 6:55 to tell me they don't have spuds. We paid $25 for 2 spuds. They didn't have them so they substituted them for Mac bowls. So we LOST money and didn't even get what we wanted. NOT HAPPY probably won't ever come back. read more

The food is great. However, the service is poor. I generally do my order on line. Many times incorrect. Today I ordered on line and the business confirmed payment with a 17 minute pick up time. I arrived 30 minutes later to discover they were unaware of the order. Upon finding the online request for order I was told the workers couldn't fulfill it right then bc manager was in the bathroom. The 2 employees were very courteous and apologetic. Employee actually goes and knocks on bathroom door to summon the mgr. By this time 2 people in line had given up on ordering and left. Mgr comes out and after bending advised of mess up with order, she fulfills the order and hands it to me, no acknowledgment or apology for lost order. I asked her if she was going to apologize or acknowledge and she acted like it was ridiculous that I asked. Ugh read more

So I called in an order 15 minutes in advanced to find out that they're out of baked potatos after they said it would be ready I waited in line for another 15 minutes and then they proceeded to tell me they had none they didn't not inform me on the phone or at the store until after waiting then they denied they had taken my order over the phone. On our way out to a friend's farm, we decided to get something that would keep us full for a while so we stopped at Billy Sim's. I'm not a dainty, salad eating type of woman. I like meat and BBQ is some of my favorite. Living in the South, you gotta know how to make some good BBQ, but unfortunately Billy Sims does not. We got the Triple 20 sandwich, The Heisman sandwich and the two meat combo with smoked chicken and chopped brisket with BBQ beans and mac and cheese for sides. We all shared everything so we could have a little bit of each. The Triple 20 is advertised as having Billy's secret sauce on it, but it came with a pre-packaged side of BBQ sauce. Normally pulled pork is pulled apart into fine strands of meat. This was big, burnt, dry chunks of pork on the sandwich, 4 big chunks to be exact. The first bite pulled off a huge chunk of meat because it was so tough and dry, I couldn't just bite a piece off. I ended up taking the coleslaw and meat off the sandwich so I could pull all the meat apart and add BBQ sauce and mix everything up. I ate it with a fork and threw away the bun which was just a soggy untoasted mess. The Heisman was ok. The chopped brisket was actually chopped up almost how it should be. The hot links were more like just smoked sausage. They weren't really hot at all but had a good flavor and the smoked balogna, well, I guess that is an acquired taste. It was just salt to me, but they liked it so I won't complain about that. The smoked chicken was the biggest let down. The seasonings were just weird and it was so dry I couldn't swallow it. I had to drink some water with each bite to get it to go down. The amount of chicken and chopped brisket in the meal was not worth $13.99! We were there just 2 hours after they opened, so there is no reason to have such dry meats. The sides were in tiny cups. I've never seen sides so small before. The mac and cheese was basically noodles that were too soft with cheddar cheese melted on top of it and mixed up; not appetizing at all. The Texas toast was Texas bread. I think they forgot ot toast it and just put some melted butter on a piece of bread. The BBQ sauce is just pre-packaged BBQ sauce, nothing special, which is actually made by Head Country BBQ in Ponca City and packaged for Billy Sim's. The BBQ beans though were actually really good. They were essentially regular baked beans (brown sugar type, tasted kind of like Bush's canned baked beans) with pieces of either pulled pork or chopped brisket in it. I would have traded my entire sandwich for several sides of the BBQ baked beans. read more

Me and my girlfriend decided to try out this sorry excuse of a barbecue place only because the local swadley's was closed for remodeling. That was our first mistake. So we walk in and after 5 minutes of looking over the menu while the person at the counter blankly stares at us, we finally decide to order only for him to tell us they are out of pulled pork and ribs after we try and order. We decide to settle on brisket sandwiches with one side and a drink which ends up costing us $22 somehow. The brisket was chewy and stringy and the Mac and cheese was as cold and dead as my great grandmother. I would of rather had horse p*ss than their sweet tea. Actually, blindfold and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference (I own 3 beautiful stallions and tasting them for UTI's is part of the job). Silly Bims should have to pay for their crimes against humanity. On top of that, My girlfriend even attempted to to wash the sorry excuse of a barbecue sandwich off her hands but, to no avail. My wife and I stopped in tonight (Sunday, 3/15) for the first time since this place opened. We wanted to try the food for the first time. I must say, I WILL NOT go to this place again. We ordered a baked potato and a hot link sandwich with a side of potato salad. The potato was so small, they gave my wife two. She wanted cheese on it, and they put COLD cheese on both. My hot link was warm. And came on a mini bun that would have been served at other places as a kids burger bun. The potato salad was served in a cup the size of a 50 cent piece. The staff was lazy. Not at all friendly. And most of all after we purchased our meal $17.00, the guy didn't even push the meal out to the front of the counter. He did say thank you, the one bright moment of the visit. But, made his way back out to the vehicle he was standing at when we pulled in. Re-establishing his much important family time. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME PARKING IN THEIR LOT !!!!! read more

Quick, easy and delicious. The Heisman is always my go to meal here, and today I couldn't decide between pulled pork or brisket, so I went with both options. Always delicious, never a letdown. I have only eaten at this location twice, however I have had great food and service both times. They have all u can eat ribs on Tuesday nights. It includes the sides as well. They have a baked potato salad that is absolutely delicious. I like the rub that they use in the BBQ as well. It is a great alternative to Swadley's. read more

Awesome meal! The bar-b-q was delish, I had the chicken sandwich and the baked potato salad. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked and tender, the baked potato salad had just the right amount of everything. My husband had the Heisman sandwich and the baked beans. The staff was friendly and happy to sub an ingredient on the sandwich, which was very tasty. The food was served quickly and the restaurant was clean. We WILL make it our go to place. Very clean, nice restaurant. Quick, friendly, and efficient service. Love the food! I'm usually someone who orders the same thing from a place because I don't like change, but not here. I've had several things from their menu and never been disappointed. For the sides, potato salad is more mustard base, slaw isn't sweet (I add sugar), and the beans are a good mix of sweet and tangy.
