We spoke with the owner, Matt Galla, who was very apologetic that he couldn't fix it because he was swamped with other work. He was able to provide us with a bottle of brake fluid. As we were leaving he offered his business card and told us that he would work on it after hours if we couldn't find another shop to work on it. They stopped to ask if they could help, AND they actually could. We drive a Subaru which can be quirky, but luck for us, one of them drives a Subaru also. A rodent had chewed through the transmission fluid line. They diagnosed the problem on the side of the road. They called the Subaru dealer in Traverse City to make sure they had the fluid and parts needed, drove into Traverse City to get the items and returned to fix our car. We had already called a tow truck which took us to their shop. They fixed our car promptly for a reasonable cost and we were on our way. This was a month ago and our Subaru is humming along, just as it should. They are nice, knowlegeable guys and a good addition to this area since the next closest shops are in Traverse City and seem very busy as no one in Traverse was able to take us same day. Seek these guys out. They do cars, trucks and farm equipment.

Code showed a "low boost" from the turbo, and the reader suggested the most likely fix is a new turbo. Not what we wanted to hear. Fortunately Tom at Northern Auto dug deeper and found more dtc's present, and located a service bulletin suggesting transmission wiring issues could be the trouble. He found the connection loose and dirty. After cleaning and ensuring a good connection, he tested and found the issues gone.
