Very poor customer service when I went in today. The worker brought me my size to try on and never came back even when I was struggling to lace up the shoes. Literally went and bought a pair of shoes THREE days ago and was told I could get a full refund if I brought them back with the receipt & form of payment. When I went to return the shoes the customer service person helping me told me the shoes were too "worn" and that he couldn't offer me a refund because they had been worn. Keep in mind I had only worn them ONCE. Then proceeded to dust off the little bit of dirt on the sneakers and tell me that he can't offer a refund when they looked brand new. He kindly offered me in store credit which I appreciate but I would appreciate if this store could maybe explain the refund policy to all employees so there is no confusion going forward when it comes to exchanges/refunds. read more

Usual script here with this Vans store in Chicago - kick ass clothes with seasonal and special editions which seem a lot more exciting than our offerings back in ol'Blighty (the UK for those of you that don't know) It could be that this is all just a mind trick (think some sort of psychosomatic conditioning...) after the shop keep in the UK Brighton store told me that we get all the old seasons collections from the U.S (sometimes 2 years old) in the UK - so yeah of course everything will look bright and shiny in the States and I just can't resist going in. On this occasion I bought a kick ass polo shirt and could have been tempted to buy more if I wasn't jetlagged to F' and needed to get out and grab coffee/food/sleep. The customer service at this location is terrible. I came in to this store knowing exactly what I wanted and figured it would be a simple in and out. I went in looking for a pair of mids in black. Vans has a pretty classic shoe type, and though the high tops and low tops are more popular, there is a basic expectation of what their classic style looks like, black shoe with a white stripe and white laces. I went in and asked to see their mids in black, but they said they don't carry the black mids in store, so I asked to try them on in another color (they carry seasonal colors in the store) so I could confirm the size and then order the black ones online. As I tried on a green pair, the lady helping me took out an iPad and set up the online purchase for me. After I confirmed my size she handed me the iPad and asked me to put in my information. When I was handed the screen, the only picture of the shoes was a small box next to the detailed information and I saw they were black mids and didn't think twice about it. She finalized the purchase and told me they'd arrive in 2 days. So a couple days later they arrived, but they came with black laces. I went to the store the next day and told the cashier that the shoes had arrived with the wrong colored laces, he was very nice and accommodating and agreed to rectify the issue for me. He went to the back, but when he returned the manager came with him without any laces. Turns out the woman who originally helped me was actually the manager. She came out and said that the shoes actually only come with black laces and that they wouldn't replace them. I pointed out to her that every black shoe in the store has white laces and she responded that for whatever reason Vans only does that for the new version of the mids. I asked her if she would understand why I'd be under the impression they'd be white laces, and she said yes. Then I pointed out that she pulled up the order and never showed me an enlarged picture of the shoes so that I could tell the laces were black, and that even though she knew I would have this white laced expectation she didn't think to mention when she pulled up the shoes online that the laces wouldn't be the normal color. She simply replied that's the way Vans does the shoe and there was nothing she could do. I was pissed, and almost returned the shoes out of spite at this point, but I wasn't in the mood to deal with this and just bought a pair of white laces for 4$. She clearly knew this would happen and just wanted to up-sell me the white laces. She easily could have just replaced the laces free of charge and apologized for the misunderstanding, but chose not to because that was her intent from the beginning. They are shady, they are just trying to hit sale quotas and don't care about whether or not you get what you want and are happy with your purchase. If you really want the shoes, I'd recommend going to a different store/retailer that carries them or just finding them online. A trip to this store is a waste of your time and money, and they may try and pull a fast one on you if the opportunity to do so presents itself. read more

I came in to this store a few weeks ago to get a pair of slip-ons, and the sales associate seemed extremely lazy. I asked how much a pair of shoes were exactly and he said that, "They are about $60". I asked if he could check and make sure, and he replied with an unenthused, "Uh, sure." It was a weird experience. read more

Called around for shoes that have been sold out everywhere for my daughters Christmas gift. Finally this store has one pair left in the size I needed. They placed it on hold for me until end of business day. I took the trip right away and got there for pick up. When shoes were checked to confirm sizes. 2 siZes in the box I didn't think anywhere had them since I've called around but the rep Cindy called everywhere and found me a pair! She also arranged for store transfer and pick up much closer to me. The mishap was out of their control but they did everything they could to resolve it. I did not enjoy my experience at this store. I do not plan on ever going again and I will tell all my friends and even random people about to walk in not to do it. I bought a pair of shoes and decided to return them. I went into the store, handed over my receipt, and asked for a refund. The store associate said I had a gift receipt and I could only get in-store credit. So because some dumb associate gave me a gift receipt I CANNOT get my MONEY BACK. My advice is to not bring your business here ever. I was so upset that I specifically signed into my account to warn others. Buyers beware. read more

You certainly don't need me to review you but I just want to put this love letter out there. Vans are and have always been the best damn quality tennis shoe in the business in my opinion! I have been wearing them since I was a teenager and they just have such an awesome lifespan, are designed so comfortable, fit perfectly, and have such a variety of really cute styles. For as much walking as my active lifestyle has demanded, Vans are the winner every time. They don't fall apart, they can handle a lot of ground, they're so functional, comfortable and cute! I just went in today and bought a pair of the Old Skools (low-top version of the Sk8 Hi). Since I've been a long time patron of Vans I didn't need too much of an introduction to anything, but the associate (Tony, I believe) was super helpful and nice. He did the typical sales pitch (I used to work in retail so I know it very well), but it was a lot nicer than most I've encountered seeing as he asked about my day, made me feel comfortable, and continued to be personable as. He brought out the Old Skools (which I asked for) as well as the Sk8 Hi's in my size and laced them for me. I honestly would've walked out with both pairs today b.c of him, but I'm trying to be a modest spender these days. It was very empty and not many people were working, but Tony was extremely helpful & seemed like the only one paying attention tbh. Overall my experience was great, the atmosphere was great, and it's such a short walk from campus so that's even better. read more
