I've been in the Charleston/Mt. Pleasant area for about 2yrs, but still went home to Georgia to get my haircut. Until I found Vanity Salon. The salon is super nice and clean. They offer a beverage when you walk in and you can make appointments online. Which I LOVE! I have very long, thick hair and they know how to handle it. Plus they don't mind spending more time on it. I went in for my bridal trial with Kim and she was awesome! It made me feel so relaxed and stress free knowing she would be there on the big day. My mom was with me and made a quick mention she needed to get her hair colored. Kim immediately went to see if anyone was available for my mom and 2hrs later my mom had a fresh cut and color. 2 weeks ago I got married and chose vanity to do all the day-of services! Kim did my hair and makeup and it was great! She was patient and asked me how I felt about everything and if we needed to change anything. 4 stylists came and did 11 people's hair and makeup in less than 4hrs!!!!! They were incredible! It was down to a science and everyone in my bridal party loved their look! The makeup was flawless and everyone loved their lashes! I am now having to pay far more to have my hair fixed after the worst haircut I have ever received in my whole life. I went to Erin, so if you don't believe me and still make an appointment, at the very least don't go to her. Look at this shit!!! It looks like she held my head over the garbage disposal and called it a day. I never even post reviews because I feel bad to blast someone's livelihood but wtf I don't know how she got a license. I was referred to Vanity Salon by a friend, however, their stylist they use wasn't available. They recommended Kim to me as she apparently is good with blondes. The entire 2 hours I was in the salon it felt like I wasn't welcome. Kim asked me what we were doing today, I said adding blonde and she said okay I'll go mix color. She never asked what tone I like, but assumed she was great from her previous reviews. I asked for a full foil and a hair trim and ended up with basically a partial highlight mess. Fast forward to today, I had to go to another salon because my hair came out so bad. So many people said to go back to this salon so they could fix it, however, after my other stylist saw it, she said I was better off not going back. There are patches of hair she skipped to highlight, it's extremely dark underneath, my hair has streaky highlights. Some of my hair strands are half blonde, half dark because she was rushing and didn't color my entire strand of hair. She also didn't let the color sit long enough. She had some other learning stylist rinse my hair and she didn't even use a toner on my hair at all so my blonde turned to a yellow after a week. When I got my digital receipt I realized she charged me $185 for the "full" highlight and $67 for a women's haircut. I always only get a trim and $70 is absolutely insane. $250 plus tip later and I am so disappointed. Now I will have to spend another $300 fixing what she did but my stylist refused to dye my hair for 5 weeks. My new stylist at least was able to do a toner on my hair to get rid of some of the yellow today. read more

Definitely wished I trusted the other reviews about the owner Kim. An absolute nightmare to deal with. We had a quick engagement and then a Covid quarantine meant I could do my trial 22 days before the wedding. I was in tears because of Kim. She was rude and did a horrible job with my hair. She was constantly texting someone during my trial and acted though I was inconveniencing her. She slicked my hair back which I said I wanted it loose. She said it could not look like the inspo photo because my hair wasn't highlighted. (2 other stylists were horrified when I showed what Kim did, one of which said, "that looks like a messy after soccer bun"). On the day of my wedding, Janet did my makeup and that of my bridal party. She was nice and did a good job. Kylie stepped in to do hair for me and the bridal party. She did a great job. It was blind trust though on my wedding day and I had no idea who would be doing my hair until hours before my wedding. While Janet and Kylie were great, I would never be able to recommend Vanity to anyone. If I hadn't been so close to my wedding, I would have searched for a different hair and makeup vendor. read more

$55 for a disappointing hair cut and "blow out". I could have done a better job at home with my revlon brush blower than Erin did. Her personality was pleasant enough but she definitely just wanted to quickly do my trim, wash and blow dry my hair. The trim was nothing that I asked for and me not knowing much about hair terminology put a lot of trust in the hair dresser. I asked for my layers to be touched up, now I have a blunt cut. I asked for slight tapering. Nope. My face framing pieces are practically bangs and she didn't ask me how short, just snip and I see my beautiful length just on the floor. Hardly any product was used for my "blowout" and no finishing spray or anything to take away the frizz was used at the end. Oh and thankfully I used the bathroom before I left snd noticed a section that was about 2 inches longer than the rest and pointed that out and she cut it off. Literally why I don't trust anyone to do my hair. read more

Once again, I've had a stellar experience with Chelsea of Vanity Salon. I needed updated professional head shots for a national publication. Chelsea recommended Jenn Cady Photography (see review). After reaching Jenn, we coordinated schedules across the three of us for hair, makeup and the photo shoot. I'd never had makeup done by a salon before, and I didn't want to look overly "made up." The result was awesome, just the right balance between natural and business-appropriate glam. My sister had her wedding yesterday and everyone including the bride and groom are from out of state. We had booked a hair and makeup appt for my sister at another nearby salon - the other salon had required a consultation 3 days before the wedding which she went to and the time of 11:45 was confirmed. At 10:30 on her wedding day, they left a message to reschedule her to 2 pm- 30 minutes before the wedding time!!!! My sister was in tears and in shock that a salon would cancel her appt the day of her wedding! Since none of us live in the state, I googled the nearest salon and was fortunate enough to call Vanity Salon. They were so kind and professional on the phone, ensuring that they would do whatever it takes to squeeze my sister in on her wedding day. Even though they were fully booked, the salon owner, Kim, added her on at 11:45 for hair and makeup. Kim did a beautiful job and is a expert in what she does! Kim and her salon not only are highly skilled at what they do, they really went out of their way to help a bride on her wedding day. We can't say enough great things about this place!!! read more

Stylist are rude and no appreciation for customer service. First time, stylist kept looking at her apple watch while cutting my hair and hardly talked to me. I gave them second chance for some reason! Made appt over the phone. Walked in next day and girl at the counter had no record of my appt...even though it was with her! I suggested that maybe I got the time wrong but she just kind of looked annoyed and said she could cut my hair. I mentioned again, that I was surprised because I just spoke with her the day before...she really looked annoyed that time, so I just walked out. Well, I have decided to write a review (something I don't ever do) but this time after what happened to me last week at Vanity Salon I couldn't let it go. I came in for my appointment at 10 am Thursday 10/17/19 expecting to leave there with nice highlights as I planned. My hair was full-color brown, and I didn't think it should be hard for a well-rated salon. I had my 20 months old daughter with me and came in to do my hair for my maternity pictures (I am 8 months pregnant). Around 12pm when the hairdresser Adrienne(not sure if that's how her name is spelled) rinsed my hair, as you will see on my following pictures, after dry I was completely shocked how someone could do a job like that. Highlights were not highlights, she colored chunks of my hair and it was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I was brushing my hair and watching my hair falling on the black cover they used on me, the brush had chunks of hair as well. She called her co-worker than this lady called a manager in their mount pleasant location for me to talk to her (little detail, the young girl who did my hair didn't even apologize, just left me sitting on the chair). I spoke to the manager from Mount pleasant location who told me someone else would take over, so Kylie the second girl tried to fix it and of course zero success and worse than that, she put my hair and scalp completely orange. I ended up leaving the salon (of course didn't pay for it) after almost 6 hours - so I got there at 10 am and let almost 5 pm. I had my little girl who only had snacks for the first couple of hours when I should actually be leaving the salon. Later on, the manager called me (April) and she proposed me to give me treatments to recover my hair but I honestly after 2 mess-ups in a day, I didn't want to trust this salon for anything else. Next day I went to a different salon to fix my hair desperate and sent her one of my receipts, I didn't have my hair completely fixed, spent almost $400 plus extra tips, and she said the owner would be calling me because she wanted to fix it herself, but then I said if she wanted to cover my expenses somewhere else I would take it, but I wouldn't go back to Vanity at all. So Monday I supposed to get a call back from the Owner and haven't received any call whatsoever. I went for the second time try new fixes because the other salon didn't have time to finish all my color correction, so I went back there today and paid more $200. so, in the end, I spent over $600 to try to fix the mess VANITY SALON did, and God knows how many times until I delivery my baby I have to go back to the other salon to have my hair fixed, and can't even stand looking at myself in the mirror, imagine taking my maternity pictures. my hair looks awful. So for the owner, whoever you are, you must improve a lot your services and your customer care. Didn't care to answer my message, to contact me back, in their own convenience they wanted me back there just to treat my hair to not have to waste their money paying whoever I wanted to fix the big mess they did in my hair. Just to remind you Vanity Salon, I had my under 2-year-old daughter, I am about to deliver my second kid, I spend hundreds to try to fix it and you guys have had zero consideration with me. So I hope from now you guys look forward to treating your clients a little better. read more

I have not used this salon for individual services but I did use them for my wedding services. First off I waited to contact the salon and speak with the owner before I wrote this review to give them the chance to know what happened and see how they would handle the situation. I had a VERY poor experience with the day of service and the discussion afterwards. These are not the only things that upset me that day but just a few highlights. First we communicated beforehand on how many girls would need makeup and hair that day and they let me know two girls would be coming to help. That day they sent three girls. Not a problem except I had to pay the extra traveling cost for the extra stylist that I wasn't aware of. I would have appreciated the communication before. The owner said she would refund me part of the money back but has yet to do so after a couple weeks. They didn't provide ANY LIPSTICK for ANYBODY! The owner said I should have asked for it if I wanted any... I shouldn't have to ask for lipstick when I'm paying to have my makeup done and I did ask for it. The stylist said she would give me some at the end but just walked out without providing any lipstick or touchups (and yes we asked for touchups as well). The makeup that was done on both mothers was not exactly what we wanted and asked to have the eye makeup redone. We provided pictures and talked about the result being an "enhanced natural" look. The second time was done just as poor. We had to try and blend it later by ourselves. Once again nobody stayed for touchups. Also, they texted me (the bride) an hour before walking down the aisle asking for additional payment which I found to be very unprofessional. It turned out to be a mistake on their part (they contacted the wrong party) and we paid in full earlier. NO apologies were made on their part for the stress that it caused. Also beware, I had $100 deposit that was supposed to go towards service but they conveniently forgot to include. Thankfully I remembered as the last person was paying and it was then deducted from my bridesmaids cost. The owner took no responsibility for her employees stating "You had a bad experience with that person, not the salon as a whole". I expected her to stand by her employees who represent her salon. She also continued to make excuses and putting the blame on me. "You should have asked for lipstick, you should have asked for extra bobbi pins, Its not our fault the makeup was done poorly, you should have asked for it to be redone. That's not our fault" Reminder- I did ask for all those things. Overall, I was very unhappy with the services that day but just as unhappy with the response I was given when I tried to communicate with the owner. I wish communication was better throughout the experience. To end on a positive note- I got to marry the most wonderful man which nothing can hinder. read more

I have used vanity for all of my wedding photo sessions and my work has been published because of their creativity and dedication! I hired this salon for my wedding day last month after it being recommended by theknot.com. While most the staff was pleasant to work with. I was highly disappointed with Ashely whom was the coordinator for my appointment. I would NOT recommend this salon for wedding hair or makeup as mine looked horrible and probably would have looked more professional if I had done it myself. I felt the prices were too high for the quality of service provided. My experience with Vanity Salon...I had never had a spray tan, but staying on the Isle of Palms I decided to give it a try. I found them here and by reviews thought this would be a good place. Let's see...Kirsten sprayed me first. I had the orangest feet as you have never seen. Kristen sprayed me the second time. It turned out great. I wanted to book her again, but she wasn't available, but said she would have Shawna do it because she would do it right. After seeing Shawna I got home. When I sat down the wrinkles above my knees were white. I called and requested a partial refund. I mean it was my time to go back and forth 3 times to get resprayed because these women didn't do a good job. I did have Kristan cut my hair and that was all good. Then Vanity Salon called to remind me of my appt the next day for makeup. I didn't remember making the appt three weeks prior. When I called to apologize I was asked if I could still make the appt. I didn't want to, but I also know these stylists count money by their apps and I was still going out, so I said ok. That was a mistake! When I got there it was Shawna who was going to do my makeup. I told her I had called about the white lines I had because she didn't have me bend my knees. She said and I quote, "you didn't tell me to." I said I didn't have to tell the other 2. She said,"We all do it different." So know if you get Shawna you better be prepared to tell her how to do it! Unbelievably stupid I didn't leave. Now she asked if I wanted classic or airbrush. I told her I had tried doing the airbrush, but I couldn't layer it thin enough so it settled in my wrinkles and I'd like to see it done right. She told me if that happened to "use a brush and brush/blend and it would move the makeup of my wrinkles. Since I'm 50 I have lots of wrinkles. It seemed like she sprayed and sprayed. I did not have my glasses on. When I got home and looked at it, I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Every wrinkle on my face screaming! So I grabbed my $30 IT Cosmetic brush and went to blend it out. That was BS. There was no reason to call because they had closed. So I ended up washing this $85 makeup off my face. The eye shadow creased because she didn't use primer and I had to fix this. So, I spent $320,including tips, for a hair cut and 1 good spray tan over 3 - 4 weeks. She offered to respray my knees, but at this point, I was done with spray tans from Vanity. And Kim, the owner, would not give me a partial refund! Well Kim, I think I should have gotten a partial refund. I mean really, were talking about $25.00. I hope that this review was worth it to you. Stacy R. read more
