Grace Salon is wonderful. They use Aveda products in the salon which are entirely free of synthetic aromas and are produced using flower and plant essences and extracts. They are 100% vegan too. I recently moved to Mount Pleasant from James Island so I was in search of a new salon. I decided to call a couple places to see if they could fit me in for a cut and color on the same day, and to my luck, Nina at Grace Salon Spa had an opening. The salon is tucked in I'On, one of the cutest Charleston neighborhoods, and is next to several restaurants if you want to walk to grab a bite to eat or a drink before or after you get your hair done. The salon itself is bright and inviting, and I was greeted right as I entered the door. Nina led me to the chair and offered me a drink as soon as I sat down. Full disclosure, I don't make much of a fuss over my hair, but during my color consultation I could tell by the questions she asked that Nina knew what she was doing and that I was in good hands. After some conversation, I learned that she has extensive experience in the industry. We started with my color, and Nina made sure to apply a lotion to my hairline to make sure the dye didn't stain my skin. Nina is very detailed and a perfectionist (which I LOVE in a stylist), and she didn't let me leave without her fixing the mistakes of a previous haircut gone bad. My color looks awesome, the cut is perfect, and she put some waves in my hair to give it some style before I left. I'm so happy I found this place! I had a great hair experience, but the worst mani/pedi and facial I have ever had. the facial was a literal steam and cream, with no evaluation, no extractions, no water offered, no massage, no pampering whatsoever. For the Mani-Pedi, the "cosmetologist" had to be reminded to remove polish, then had to be reminded to put on a base coat after literally swiping remover once, I mean a quick light single swipe after I asked, over each nail. No polish was removed. She did not file or clip. She barely pushed on the cuticle after soaking my feet in an inch of tepid water for a minute. She did ask if I wanted a scrub. she did not apply a top coat either, but I was resigned to a bad job at that point. Who just uses colored nail polish on a customer without removing the old polish, doing a foot massage, applying a base and top coat, clipping, or filing? I was 15 minutes late, my bad, but called and was told it was not an issue. It clearly wasn't because when I arrived I was not greeted for well over 5 minutes, was not offered a beverage, and the technician was completely not engaged. My hair stylist was great, but took a blowout customer (probably thinking he had a few extra minutes) while I waited after my pseudo nail work. Literally hundreds of dollars for a job my 6 year old niece could have done much better. This was not even sub-par, it was a rip-off. read more

Made an appointment for my daughter in law who was in town visiting. I don't like leaving negative reviews but I was quite embarrassed I brought her to this establishment. The stylist didn't introduce herself, but I was told when I made the appointment it would be with Donna so I'm guessing that was her name. So I had to ask HER her name. She just nodded. Donna barely spoke and when she did it was so softly my daughter in law couldn't hear or understand what she was saying. She made her feel uncomfortable by the looks she was making in the mirror about her previous hair color. When my daughter in law described what she wanted, Donna just shook her head no and veered her a different way. Just very unprofessional. The color she did was ok, but just seemed like she was robot. Not at all what her client had in mind. No refreshments or even a nice scalp massage while shampooing. Didn't even blow it dry all the way. Overall disappointing . Total lack of performance. I hate to do this, but I have to be honest. I was very disappointed with my service today. I made an appointment for a mani/pedi and had seen online that they could do the gel manicures which was great. I wanted a gel no chip manicure before a wedding this weekend. The stylist was immediately thrown off when I asked for the gel manicure. She made several comments about how she doesn't do nails very often which seemed very unprofessional to me. My manicure did not turn out well at all. 3 of my nails chipped before I even left the salon. And the pedicure was essentially a polish change. I discussed this with the ladies at the desk who handled the situation very well and I commend them for their understanding and service (hence the 2 stars). But I will never be returning to this salon and recommend against others getting nail services here. read more

There were several employees who made eye contact with me, but still didn't even say "we'll be right with you". One even walked in with a coffee, went to the back, looked at me and closed the door to the break room. Very disappointed by the customer service because this salon had great reviews. read more

I found this little place after receiving a recommendation from a friend. I used their awesome online booking system (great for those of us who browse websites late at night after everything has closed!) to book an appointment with their stylist, Emily. Having never been to an Aveda salon, I had NO idea what to expect, but I can sincerely say that I will never go to another place! Emily did an awesome job assessing what needed to be done to my hair (fixing damaged ends, etc.) and listened exactly to what I wanted done while giving her own input. My hair looks better than it ever has after having a high quality cut. When I came home, I immediately went the to Aveda website and ordered all sorts of products that were used on me in the salon. Almost two months later, my hair looks just as good as it did the day of the cut! I cannot say enough good things about Grace Salon and Emily! read more

I've been to Aveda salons for many years. East coast to west coast and now have moved to Charleston area and still swear by Aveda color. So I am familiar with the different salon concepts and skills of the colorists. I entered the salon a few minutes before the appointment time. Two women were seated at the desk, having a conversation. A full 30 seconds went by before I was greeted at all. Thirty seconds is a long time to stand in front of someone, waiting for them to say hello. After I was checked in, they told me I was early and I could have a seat. I've never been to an Aveda salon where I was not offered water, at least. So I sat. Generally everyone here was in a snarly mood. I work with sick people all day. I know snarly. The stylist came out to greet me. I sat in the chair as I looked for a place to put my bag. She invited me to put my bag on a stack of what I later discovered were wet magazines. I deliberately chose a stylist who was less experienced because I know my color formula and it doesn't take a lot of creativity or know-how to mix up a dictated recipe and put it on someone's hair. After she got the color on, she asked if she could offer me some water. (Props!). The shampoo and blow dry were completely uneventful and I liked my color, as I always do. I left the salon with a ring of color around my forehead and ears (major pet peeve). I will give them a try for a haircut - let's face it, I will sacrifice atmosphere for a good cut and color without too much hassle - but if the cut isn't great, I'll move on to the next Aveda salon. They could step up their customer service here a little bit. read more

This salon is simply the best salon to go to in Mt. Pleasant. I am a male, and they do an amazing job at styling my hair. The stylists are all so nice and when you walk in it just feels really home-like and everybody knows each other. They use Aveda products which are by far the best, which is a plus. As a male, i dont require much, and i can say that after i go here to re-style my hair or get a trim that the chicks dig it! I would absolutely recommend this salon to anyone and everyone! read more

Love this place! I just moved here a few months ago and took a chance on a random place. Some of the best highlights I've had thanks to Emily! Been to her 3 times and each time its looking even better. She recently highlighted/cut my hair before my wedding. I waited FOREVER to go back so that my hair would look good for the wedding. At this time, my roots looked awful, pretty embarrassing prior to my appt. On my wedding day, all my wedding party commented on how great my streaks looked :). So glad I found this place. I came here last Saturday for a blowout with Emily and had a wonderful experience. Emily is very sweet and a great conversationalist and she did an absolutely amazing job on my hair! A tropical storm was moving into the area that day, so she put a good amount of product into my hair to fight the frizzies. My hair lasted well into the evening (even after having lunch outside but under cover). My appt was at 10am and I'd say around 8pm I gave up and put it into a ponytail. I was at a semi-outdoor wedding, it was torrentially down pouring, and I honestly don't think there was anything more that could have been done to salvage the fine job she'd done on my hair earlier. I will definitely keep this salon in mind if I'm in town and in need of a blowout again. It's a lovely place! read more

Worst salon experience of my life! Ti didn't have a clue as to how to give a perm and no one on the staff helped, including the owner who was sitting at the reception desk next to me the whole time. After 3 wasted hours of my questioning her abilities, I left in tears with a few waves on less than half my hair and the rest still totally straight. Worst of all, the owner apologized that I wasn't happy, but assured me the perm was administered correctly. At least admit your employee screwed up!! I refused to pay for my hair being ruined and would tell everyone to stay away from this salon and this owner. I wish I had seen E.A.'s review before I kept my appointment. read more

I just moved to the area from Florida and have been in search for a hair salon that offers Aveda products. I found Grance Salon & Spa through the Aveda website as one of their "concept salon and day spa." I was able to get an appointment within a day and could not wait. The salon staff was welcoming as soon as I walked in the door by saying hello and offering me a beverage. I met with my designer, Katie, who is AWESOME ! Katie is so knowledgable, and sweet. We talked about my hair type, style, and what I needed and she offered some suggestions which I thought was great. I am always nervous about trying something new and Katie gave me to confidience to do so. Even though it was a subtle hair style change, it was a lot for me, and I am glad Katie helped me through it with offering her suggestions and attention to detail. She took her time with me and I didn't feel rushed to get out of the chair like I have at other salons. She gave me some other style tips and product suggestions to help tame my frizzy hair in the southern summertime heat. I cannot thank Katie enough for the time she spent on making sure I loved my new hair cut, and that I do ! I could not wait to get home to show my husband, and he LOVED IT. I will definitely be going back to Katie and Grace Salon Spa from here on out - its nice to know that I found a great salon and most importantly a fantastic designer. The atmosphere at Grace Salon Spa was very relaxing, and the decor was trendy and calming. A true Aveda salon with all the offerings that Aveda prides themselves on from the scalp massage at the begining to the amazing products available at the end. I had a wonderful experience at Grace Salon Spa. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door by the receptionist. The salon was bright and spa-like. I was offered a beverage of choice right away. Caitlyn was my stylist. She was prompt and spent time finding out exactly what I wanted. She was professional and extremely knowledgeable. She gave me a wonderful shampoo and head massage. I loved the products she used. They kept my hair nice and full. The best part was the cut and color. I have received lots of compliments on my hair since my visit with Caitlyn. I was pleasantly surprised with how natural my color looked (and still looks). The cut was the best I've received in years. I will be returning in January. I look forward to my visit. Hate to have to write a review about a place that I did not receive services from however, here is what happened. Made an appointment with Cat a week or so ago. Called 45 minutes before my appointment to check her prices. Was told that a cut & color was $140.00,. I sat in the chair and was discussing with Cat the color & style I wanted and right before she was heading back to mix my color, she said to me "my price is usually $140.00 but because your hair is thick, I will have to up charge you $40.00". I said, "so that means a one process color would be 120.00?" What does that have to do with the color process anyways?? I have had my hair cut in New York, Atlanta, DC etc.. I have never paid $120.00 for a one process color. Here is my point, if a client calls a salon and is told the price is $140.00 flat fee, that should be the price. Never did the receptionist say this price could vary depending on the thickness of your hair. My hair is not even that thick.... Being a first time client, they should have honored the quote that was given to me. This put a very bad taste in my mouth and I think that the salon owner should at the very least have come and talked to me. I ended up walking out for the principle of the situation... Had a great experience here after getting a cut I didn't like at another Aveda salon in the area. Rachel was my stylist and I was really pleased with her work. She listened to everything I told her about my hair and the look I wanted. A few hours after I got my cut, I decided I actually wanted my bangs shorter than I had told her at the appointment. She was really nice about it, fit me in the next day and now I love my hair. As usual, the Aveda experience was very relaxing and I can't wait to go back in a few months.
