I have extremely thick and curly hair that can be a pain to deal with, and I've often had it butchered by stylists that have no clue how to handle it. Krystal did a great job at both of my visits. My first visit was for a major haircut; my hair was probably almost a foot long and she cut it to my shoulders and gave me layers. My second visit was for a trim and partial highlights. Each time she made sure she understood what I wanted and treated me like I was the only person in the salon. Great service and great quality and a great price!

Finding a good hair stylist can be a chore as there are so many fast-food equivalents out there. I…read moremean sure they can cut hair, but are they masters of the smaller techniques? Hair is one of the most important visual cues we have to inaudibly announce who we are, a sort of set of nonverbal cliff notes, if those are still around. As for finding a good one, I've been through three and after a butcher job and a store closing I've found someone I entrust my furry noggin to and who never fails to go above and beyond. I decided to entrust my scalp to Mercer Hair Studio based on reviews. The store front is located in one of the most compact parking lots ever, I mean who planned this? Anyways walking in the décor is simple yet with a local art flair, demonstrating that these ladies are not only good at their craft but they're real artists at heart. This is good because of what I was there for took a certain amount of artistry not just a number 5 or a boys (men's) haircut. My stylist, whom wasn't exactly what I requested was gifted, exceptional at taking a picture and replicating in real life. Sitting in her chair the lady was caring and detail oriented except one issue, making sure every nook and cranny was addressed. She's not the fastest but above average and I believe that has more to do with my incessant jabbering and making jokes than her skill. As for the cuts, she was on the money but adding highlights or dyes she missed the task. Her dying was more like a whole platinum M&M style than highlights. I even gave her a picture so I wasn't satisfied with the amount she opted to put in my hair. I can't speak upon all the services provided here but from my experiences I'm some-what satisfied. The place is safe, but the prices are literally over twice what I was paying in Austin TX a year ago. In summary, be very diligent on the color and amount you want but be prepared to pay a lot more than other places. I don't believe their prices reflect some high level of quality, but it's far from poor.

After moving back to the great Charleston area, specifically Summerville I googled salons. I'm happy to report I found that needle in the haystack! Located in a safe and easily accessible part of town, Attitudes Salon is the best choice for men's haircuts (sorry ladies, I can only address the men reading this). The reservations are easily made on the simple to navigate website and they'll even text you reminders. Walking up, I'm not sure what I was expecting for "Attitude," was it a biker, princess, or a pinky up attitude? The answer is the attitude what you'll leave with once your hair is finished, that of confidence and satisfaction. The inside is that of any other salon; shampoos, conditioners for sale and use here, obviously seats and stations to do their work and a cashier counter to name a few. The ladies here are very friendly, even at the early hours in the morning while all being able to smile with a energetic "Attitude." For my experience I had a wonderful stylist named Jami. Fair warning I had no clue who she was but as soon as I saw her, I remembered her from high school and while she's changed and no longer 21 (but 22....) she hasn't changed. What impresses me the most about stylist is they're also wonderful conversationalist, a good skill to have while passing the time. Jamie cut my hair with love, speed and accuracy while being able to hold a conversation, offer advice and most importantly take and give good jabs as in jokes. Honestly, she made my time fly by as I didn't have a care in the world but most importantly, when she was done my hair looked exactly like the photo I showed her. In wrapping up, Attitudes is a wonderful salon that takes pride in making their customers feel as if they're the focal point and striving to meet your expectations. The key is they go out of the way to make customers feel special by listening to your story, offering grounded insight and laughing at your jokes while styling your hair that is better than anyone else can offer for an affordable amount of money. I'm glad to have reconnected with Jami and took a chance with Attitudes b/c they now have a loyal customer. Overall, this is the best experience I've had in recent memory and I know they'll treat everyone just like their family too. Do you want an Attitude? If yes, then stop on by.

I do not recommend this salon…read more Melissa at CHS was very nice at first. I'm a redhead, and I know it can be complicated. She and the owner took an hour to mix the base color. Red flag. Why is the owner involved? Why is this taking so long? I've never had a colorist take an hour to mix my color. At one point the owner was pointing out different colors and suggested that we go with one color that was fairly dark red. I'm wondering if they need a colorist course. Getting nervous. I pointed to two other colors that were lighter and said I do not like this color and if I leave with my hair this color I'll be very disappointed. Well, two hours later, sure enough the base color was this reddish brown color that I had pointed out that I do not want. I told them, it looks very dark. Then they took pictures of the highlights on top of my head in bright sunlight to show me how light. They only took pics of my highlights. Why are they trying to prove it's ok? I said I'd look in my light at home and call. I called the salon back next day and asked for a redo. They said that they would try to fit me in and give me some copper highlights to pull through so it wouldn't seem so dark. I agreed. Meanwhile though, they can't seem to fit me in. It's been almost 3 weeks since the color problem. I find my hair very unattractive and don't want to wait any longer. At this point I'm upset. I paid $240.00 + tip for the color and a trim, blew my own hair dry and have ugly hair. I just texted. To please refund half - what she quoted for custom color base. 120.00 - and I'll have it fixed elsewhere. No response. I'll update this review if I get a response. I'm hoping to get the credit and move on. I texted the salon owner to call me. No response.

I thought that I got a good haircut, despite trying to get her to dry my roots first so that we wouldn't need a whole hour to dry my hair. I have fine delicate but slightly thick hair that she spent forever drying because she refused to dry my roots and kept saying how long it was taking and how damp my hair was (listen to your clients for gods sake). She had no strength, no tension in her hands and it felt like a child was playing with my hair while I was slowly getting cold and damp because my roots were still damp for a whole hour of fooling around. That's not even the worst part because I thought I had a decent haircut until I got home and moved my center part off center only a couple centimeters... I asked for my long grown out bangs to be trimmed to jaw/chin length and instead I got actual bangs (I didn't want bangs I just wanted some face framing from my natural very long grown out old bangs JUST UNDER MY JAW (no bangs in photo because I'm already embarrassed enough to be making this review. I just straightened my hair and split it half and half and I have started crying again at how there's several different lengths and my beautiful hair is butchered. Even though it's shiny and needed all that cut, the way it was butchered affects the way the hair strands lay. They offered to fix it but how could I ever trust anyone in that building with a sharp object again? Why would I lose even more length and force myself to have even more bangs and be even farther from what I want? No. I will cry until I dont feel like it anymore and I'm lucky that this is the worst haircut that I've ever had. Maybe she was distracted or maybe I talked her ear off. Nothing is pretty about this haircut except the fact that my hair is just a regular kind of pretty. It's been hacked and here's the picture to prove it. The kindness and hospitality was like any salon that wants to keep business, pretty good but nothing to write about.
