I've been seeing Ginger off and on for over 14+ years now. She is HANDS DOWN the best colorist I've ever had in my life! Sound extreme? Well, that's how seriously I take my hair color. I was introduced to Ginger by my mother, and I knew it was a match made in heaven after I walked out that salon door the first time Ginger did my hair! Fast forward to a few years later, I relocated back to New York City. For the first year or so, I traveled back and forth from SC to NYC to have Ginger color my hair (I told you I take my hair color seriously!), but after a while, I knew it wasn't economical to keep up with such an expensive habit. I started to try some of the top colorists here in NYC (and also paid top dollar $400+ NOT including the blowout because that's always additional ). Eventually, I found someone that was "OKAY" and stayed with them for the last few years but was never excited with the outcome of my hair. After my last hair appt here, I looked at my hair and just felt SO underwhelmed, and for $375, I want to feel HAPPY and that I got my money's worth! I finally said screw it, I'm going back to Ginger. I flew into Charleston on Friday with super dull and ashy blonde hair, and I got back on that plane with the most beautiful golden blonde highlights that I haven't had in so long!! I walked on that plane feeling like F*CKING Heidi Klum!!!! I FEEL AND LOOK F*CKING FANTASTIC, all thanks to my miracle worker, Ginger. Even after having good color jobs from the top salons in NYC, (Rita Hazan, Frederic Fekkai, Sally Hershberger), Ginger at Nola's tops them all! The only place that gets my teenage son's hair perfect every time. It is hard to get a teenager to communicate what they are wanting and he changes his style frequently. They are able to get it right! The few times I've taken him anywhere else in between to get just a trim it has been a disaster. read more

Im also new to the area, i tried it out cutting my mid back length hair to my shoulders. I liked the place and the people. Online booking is a plus. My haircut was pretty good, except one thing. The hairdresser, a male, left 2 long (about 3 inches longer, a quarter inch thick pieces, then the rest of the cut) in the front framing my face. Not a good mistake. It was painfully obvious when I looked in my bathroom mirror. Luckily, I'm pretty brave with my kitchen scissors and clipped off the pieces. He should have checked the evenness of my layers an would have caught it if he was more thorough at the end. I don't think I'll go back after that. I heard they do excellent color though. That's what the 3 other ladies were in for that were there the same time as me. I'll give 4 stars for service and overall cut, minus 2 for the error. ///UPDATE! I got a call from the salon owner this morning regarding a review I left on their booking site.. She said the male who cut my hair was new. I ended up getting a free haircut from HER when I come in next time. So plus 1 star for fixing the issue. read more

I'm new to the area and, as always, very nervous about trying a new hair salon. On top of having had some awful haircuts in the past, I never quite know what I want or how to explain the vague ideas I have in my head - I depend quite heavily on the expertise of my stylist to help me determine what will work with my face shape, lifestyle, etc! After reading several positive reviews on Yahoo (yelp was sadly lacking in the salon reviews for this area!), I decided to try Nolas salon. I was pleased to find that they have online appointment scheduling, and randomly selected a stylist. The salon is a bit out of the way, but worth the drive. I arrived for my appointment with Johnnie and was greeted by an extremely friendly staff in a clean, bright salon. The atmosphere was informal and comfortable (but not unprofessional!) - everyone seemed to get along very well. Johnnie gave me a fantastic haircut, taking the time to really hash out what muddled ideas I had in my head, and I walked out feeling great. I'd put off getting my hair cut for about a year because with my thick, curly hair is easy to screw up. A friend recommended the place and I'm so glad she did! Jenna was amazing! My stylist from Atlanta was so great, but even she wasn't willing to go red on my hair. Jenna, however, was able to give me the perfect shade of Auburn! I told her I wanted to go Emma Stone and on the way home from, a random stranger at the gas station told me I looked like Emma Stone! Couldn't be more satisfied! read more

As nice as the owner is (&she is), I won't go back. I made an appointment a week+ in advance and even called back to confirm I had booked it correctly. When I arrived on time, my stylist was just beginning another haircut. 45 minutes later she finally acknowledged me, said she didn't feel comfortable applying my color & asked me to rebook with someone else in a month. I wish I would've known that before I sat waiting for 45 min. . The other staff was friendly enough but it was giant waste of time. Wish I could recommend, but I do not. read more

Nolas Salon, you are awesome!! I had a terrible haircut (I mean bad) and was still in shell shock, but ventured out to Nolas. I was taken the same day I called, within an hour actually and was cut by Ginger. I thought my hair was too messed up to salvage, but Ginger worked her magic and gave me a voluminous short bob. I have already received so many compliments, and even got a mouth dropping "how did they get your hair so thick" from my husband! Not to mention, excellent customer service skills over the phone and in person. Ginger walked me through every step of what she was doing and gave me comfort with her great sense of humor! I have been searching for a salon that not only listens, but can do a good job for some time, and can now say I have a home salon! Thank you Ginger and Nolas! You rock! read more

After searching for a place that felt comfortable for almost two years, I finally found it here. I asked a couple of my customers a while back where they went because of their great hair color, and both said Nolas. I decided last minute to book online with Genbook and made an appointment with Kimberly. At first I was nervous because so many first times w salons have been not-so-great. This time was completely different. I was given a warm welcome when I arrived and Kimberly helped me figure out what I wanted. She worked quickly to put three different colors all over my hair and did a wonderful job. The haircut was good, but the stylist left a lot to be desired. Firstly, I made an appt about a week in advance, but had to wait 20 minutes past appointment time for her to be done with the person in front of me. When she did get me in the chair, she was pretty unresponsive and seemed sort of...irritated about something. By the time I left, I'd heard her bickering with her fiance, I'd heard her tell me that if she'd got gray hairs like I did at 25 she'd "cry," and that she had no plans for the night because her place of work exhausted her and she wanted to do nothing when she got home (she said this last comment in a way that made me feel like I was part of the problem). Overall not impressed, though maybe I just got a bad stylist. The others seemed friendly enough from what I could see/hear. Still, if I'm paying $40 for a haircut, I'd rather see a smiling face than a grumpy one. Won't be going back. read more

I had the Japanese thermal treatment to permanently straighten my hair done. I had it done a year ago elsewhere and have pin straight hair except from where my roots have grown out since. Only about 3-4 l inches of my hair was treated and I was charged full price (nearly $300). After following their directions (avoid hats, avoid moving hair, avoid contact with water, etc.) 3 days after treatment I washed my hair as directed. My hair dried to the same waves/curls as before the treatment. The only difference is my hair is extremely thinner. Would NEVER reccomend going here for hair treatments, as the only noticeable difference is the damage that was caused. read more

Was not happy with my hair cut and service. I wouldn't recommend this salon.

I was a new customer here and Robert was the person I got to take care of me. After telling him exactly how my old hair dresser back home did my hair, Robert insisted he could do it better. The consultation took at least a half an hour where I relented to him and allowed him to do it his way. Needless to say the hair color came out completely to light which is what I told him I did not want. Then he blow dries my hair and using a round brush before he decides to cut it! The bangs were cut different lengths as well as the back of my hair is different lengths on both sides. Robert told me to leave without paying because I was clearly not satisfied. 2 hours later his "partner" calls demanding payment, stating he took his time with you and is liked by 1000's of customers. Sorry but this customer,the one your demanding payment from, isn't satisfied at all! I refused but agreed to pay 35 dollars for the product used on my hair. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. I also got there at 10 am he arrived late, and had to rush him to get me out by 130pm. If I could give negative stars I would. read more

I went to Tiffany for color and cut. She cut about six inches off, far more than she told me she would (Strike 1). I showed her photos of what I like and thought she understood but I ended up with darker hair than I wanted (Strike 2). After coloring, the shampoo person (my scalp is just now recovering from the pain) did not condition and then used a fine tooth comb. When I told her it was hurting she brought Tiffany over who told me she would be doing a gloss treatment and didn't condition. She also told me I could comb my hair myself or she could do it (who tells the client that?). After someone dried by hair, Tiffany then used a flat iron to curl my hair (reminiscent of the 90's). When she reached for the hairspray I told her I don't use it but she told me I would never know the difference (Strike 3 - disregard the client). Three strikes and I'm out!!! I paid over $200 and now have to have the color redone by another salon. Not what I was expecting from the Charleston stylist of the year... read more
