Very inviting and cute bakery/coffee shop in the heart of Cliffside Park! They have an array of sweet and savory baked goods, with a Balkan twist. They also have Turkish coffee and a traditional Turkish style breakfast. I opted for one spinach and one feta burek. This treat consisted of a tube of flaky phyllo dough stuffed with either meat, cheese, potato or spinach, rolled into swirl and baked until golden. The exterior was both delicate but firm and buttery, and held up the fillings well. The interior was rich (both for the cheese and spinach) and flavorful. I am so thankful for the web that led me to this place. I'm so glad we tried it out. I was craving coffee and dessert, but at 11PM, nothing is opened. Or at least not for coffee except at the diners. And I needed something extra then their coffee. The Turkish coffee was excellent, not bitter, thick and strong. The latte was made perfectly, not scalding hot, just the right milk consistency. The baked goods were great, a little too sweet but the coffee definitely help cut through that sweetness to make it just right! read more

A clean, fresh and appealing atmosphere with some of the best Turkish desserts. Their Tiramisu is so delectable without being overpowering. The opera cake is high quality as is their house coffees. But the tres leches is the star of the show. The staff is stellar! read more

Wonderful service. Always busy, but never so you can't get a seat. It's a really nice atmosphere if you want to meet with friends, or go for dessert after dinner. The breakfast service is amazing. Full turkish breakfast with lots of different dishes and breads to choose from. Simits are also available for an extra charge, and are really, really good. They have a nice selection of Baklava and simliar pastries. I am not as big a fan of the mousse based items. Still very good, but not as chocolatey or rich as say a french style bakery. Vanilla Bakery is a place that provides you warmth and a family atmosphere and is one of my go to cafes for great deserts, baked goods, and great vibes for studying! They are open 24 hours so there is no time you cannot stop by! I will mention that around 9pm-11pm on a Friday or the weekend are the busiest but that just shows you how great this cafe is!! Stopped in and was very impressed by the selection of baked goods, both savory and sweet. I got a tahini roll, which was HUGE, and very good ... sweetened tahini in flaky pastry. I also got the Dubai chocolate bar, which was very tasty and pretty to look at. I plan on trying the puddings next. There is a lot behind the store which is a little tricky to access if you are not from the area. But it is patrolled outdoor hallway and Vanilla's. entrance is on the right. I don't know if there is a security officer there 24/7 but I believe that the cafe is open 24/7. read more

There are savory and sweet options, cakes for any occasion, and fresh loaves of bread. I ordered some pastries to go and really enjoyed them. They went perfectly with my coffee. Some of my selections included almond, chocolate chip, apple, and pistachio cookies. By far, my favorite was the pistachio. I'll visit again for a sit down. The pastries were very well made and tasty. I also had the iced lavender matcha, which was nice and smooth with a good hint of lavender. It was not too overpowering, so you could still taste the matcha. The service was good, and the people were friendly and helpful when asked about the pastries. On Sunday morning at 9:30 AM, I came here with my family for breakfast. Inside, only two tables were occupied, while all the others were empty. However, about 10 tables were being held empty under the excuse of being "reserved." We were not allowed to sit because some pretentious people, who think they belong to a royal family or are superior to others, had called the owner and reserved the tables. And the owner, who seems to think they are running a Michelin-starred restaurant rather than a simple bakery, found this acceptable. This is a bakery! You go in, eat your bagel, drink your tea, and leave. So, who is the real fool here--the egotistical people making reservations by phone, or the owner stroking their egos? Stopped by here because it looked bright and inviting for a quick take-out snack. Made eye contact with the grump faced redhead cashier. She wouldnt even move her mouth to say hello. I asked her about the cookies, she grudgingly answered, i asked about the rice pudding, she mumbled something i didnt understand. Whatever. I ordered my cookies, i paid in cash, i asked about a receipt and she threw her hands in the air exasperated, implying i should've asked before she closed the drawer. I told her to forget about it. Not sure what her problem was, not confident about her english, etc. Dont know, dont care. If she had a problem with the way i looked, too bad. Here's a tip. For free since i'm nice: If you expect to work in an establishment in an area where the people dont look like they do where you come from, then you had better get an attitude adjustment. Quickly.
