Okay I was cracking up about my experience here because I literally asked the dumbest question to the guy working but he was so nice and explained the answer to me until I understood! So fun fact they are now advertising Banana Pudding Hot Chocolate and it is NOT actual hot chocolate but banana pudding made to taste like hot chocolate. Why I got so confused? I don't know! Maybe I have been watching too many videos about Tyra Banks Hot Ice Cream. Either way I appreciate the guys patience and kindness when explaining it to me twice especially because I did not end up ordering that at all (though it sounds interesting) but I did get the regular actual hot chocolate and it was amazing! It tasted like melted marshmallows were in it! Perfect for a cold winter day. In addition we got to the humming bird cake, a cupcake, and the regular banana pudding. My husband had never been here before so you know we had to get the banana pudding, it's their claim to fame. And it is decent. Growing up in North Carolina banana pudding is taken very seriously and is literally at every gathering. Would this be a contender for the cookout? Sure! I have no complaints about. The other baked items were delicious as well. The store is cute unfortunately this location has no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor. It was like negative degrees when we went so we definitely did not sit outside. All and all it's a cute bakery/ sweets shop. There are many locations through out the city. Let me start with the positives, because there were some. Daniel was excellent--polite, attentive, and gave solid customer service. Credit where it's due. Now for the madness. Another employee, Kirk--an older gentleman who looked completely out of place--approached and coughed directly over the slice of cake that had just been cut for me. Yes. Over it. At that moment, I honestly wondered if it was intentional. A young woman nearby immediately caught my reaction and went to the back to replace the slice. She handled the situation professionally and deserves recognition. Unfortunately, the chaos continued. Kirk later made me a hot cocoa, and when I went to drink it, it spilled on me because the lid wasn't secured properly. At that point, I stopped believing in coincidences. And the cake? The German chocolate cake was terrible--dry AF and nothing like the Grand Central location. Not even remotely close. Between the coughing, the spill, and the subpar cake, this visit was uncomfortable, messy, and disappointing. I recently tried Magnolia Bakery, and the highlight was definitely their Classic Banana Pudding. It was so yummy -- creamy, sweet, and perfectly balanced with those soft vanilla wafers. Totally lived up to the hype and left me wanting more! You can actually purchase the banana pudding kit to make at home (see pictures). I wish they had a location in the Bronx because I would definitely visit more often. The young lady that was working the front counter and the register at the same time was so warm and friendly. Stopped in on my trip to New York City. We walked past in the sign, noticed that they were famous for their banana pudding. After dinner, I forced my friends to make a pitstop. This was a must stop while visiting New York. Just happened to be in the vicinity while in Central Park so we decided to stop. The line was out the door, took about 20 minutes to order but the staff were very friendly. I've booked marked Magnolia Bakery and been waiting to try this place since the "cupcake hype" back in early 2000! Monday afternoon with zero line....and luckily found a table as a couple was leaving. Perhaps it's the Manhattan setting or the holiday season, but the store has an old-fashioned, nostalgic charm, like you are stepping into a classic candy shop. There are about 4 small tables but the intend is really order and take it home to enjoy. The interior décor is very simple with black and white tile, but once you step in there's dozens of cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. I really came in for the banana pudding. While Oct/Nov was pumpkin pudding, the Dec/Jan special is chocolate banana pudding. We got one of each flavor and I personally voted for the chocolate version. The dessert is perfectly sweetened with right amount of pudding and bread crumbles. The cashier was so nice and knowing I was visiting from out of state, had offered for a taste test of another item. Honestly, I really don't know why this Magnolia bakery location doesn't have five stars. This particular Magnolia bakery always has a fresh and plentiful baked good to choose from. Additionally, I've been to this location a few times, and I've never been disappointed with the service. Still further, This location is one of the best in Manhattan because it has cafe-style seating. You can't beat that, especially if you want to order and stay awhile. You may have to wait a bit, but it's well worth it to be able to sit down and enjoy your dessert. I will also say that the service has always been quick and friendly. I shouldn't have waited so long to try this! Stopped at the upper west side location after a late lunch & was thrilled that the banana pudding lived up to the hype. Arriving around 4pm ish there wasn't that bit of a line but when I got to the counter I was told they didn't have any banana pudding & had a new batch coming up in about 10-15 minutes. This location is slightly bigger than the original so luckily was able to grab a table & waited the 10 minutes. Totally worth the wait. So creamy & delicious all ingredients tasted fresh. They also have seasonal puddings which I will make sure to try the next time I'm in the area. Magnolia serves a variety of other items that were flying off the shelves. So as a New Yorker, I've been going to Magnolia bakery for years. yesterday I stopped by to pick up a cake and a few items for an event. Magnolia bakery must be really desperate for employees and very short staffed because this guy Nick is absolutely ridiculous and a complete embarrassment as an employee to this company! I'm assuming he's a cashier but I'm not sure exactly what his title was besides unprofessional gossiper. but waiting for my order I sat and listened to this guy, trash this place of business and the owners. He then went on to tell his coworkers how he had left some prominent position to work at Magnolia. The best part was all the loud profanity he was using during this lovely side show he was displaying. This is not what I expect going to McDonald's let alone Magnolia bakery on the upper west side . This was such a huge annoying disappointment and for their prices of food they charge they Really need to reevaluate what kind of staff they have and perhaps hire staff as high-quality as their bakery goods . I look forward to now going to Angelina's bakery for future orders . I can't believe how This place went downhill fast ! So I've had these multiples times. It's probably my least favorite place to get cupcakes or cake because the one thing they are consistent about is the quality. The cupcake cake and the cake itself is 9/10 times extremely dry and stale. The icing is dry and flaky. I can't tell if they are selling days old products or if it's a quality control issue. This time was no different. The only reason I visited was because I was looking for treats for other people that actually don't mind this place. They need better quality control, sell leftover item on tgtg? My suggestion if you are looking for better quality magnolia cupcakes, order the ones they make prepackaged through wonder. Is it the preservatives? Maybe that's it not sitting out? But, the pre packed ones are alot better than the in store bakery ones they are more moist.
