Baklava Home Breakfast - for 2
    Fran C.

It was our first time there and we were welcomed very kindly. We wanted to taste their specialties and ordered the Baklava Home Breakfast for 2 which includes 2 Turkish Teas. It was tasty ti go back & forth between savory and sweet. The space is bright, airy and clean - it was a sunny day that we could enjoy through the large windows. Parking is easy & ample. Service was quick and it was all delicious! Can't wait to return & try other Turkish healthy goodies!

I am usually too lazy to get up out of bed for breakfast on a Saturday, but something told me to do it. What a great first impression - friendly service and spacious area with a lot of light. When you walk in, you order and pay first. They will give you an number place holder. You can choose where you want to sit. I ordered: Breakfast Plate: 10/10 - fresh salad, good amount of cheese, and a honey with butter dip; comes with a basket of bread Simit & Egg Pan: 10/10 - my favorite! They place an egg with mushrooms and sujuk (a type of sausage) in the middle of the simit, and melt the mozarella cheese over it. So tasty and decadant (I shared half with my partner). Comes with a small side salad. Iced Salted Caramel Latte: 10/10 - one of the best lattes I've had. Comes in a to-go cup, which is very convenient. I'm so excited this is in the neighborhood, and look forward to visiting again.

It was 5pm on a slow Monday so we were seated right away. The interior is cozy, quiet, and clean. We started with 3 Mixed Appetizers along with their complimentary warm bread. The 3 dips were all solid but nothing out of the ordinary. Good flavor, smooth & creamy texture, and great for sharing. I love ordering dishes like the Mixed Kebab Platter for Two as we get a taste of everything and it's family-style. The presentation was beautiful, the meats were tender, and I like that they paired it with rice, bulgur, and some salad. All the meats were tender and well-seasoned but could've been hotter in temperature. I particularly enjoyed the chicken & lamb adana kebabs. My other minor complaint was the sides were not enough to share and the ratio compared to the meats was off. We definitely could've used more rice with the meats. The staff were super kind & friendly the entire time. Decent try overall!

It's a mom & pop shop so nothing super fancy, but well-kept. 2. Food (4/5) Babagannoush (APP, 5/5) - TAKE. MY. MONEY! Man I love me some good baba and this was exceptional. Velvety with great mouth feel and lovely smokiness this was so good w/ their table bread Turkish Ravioli (Manti) (APP, 3/5) - Chewy little nuggets w. yogurt filling, it was pretty enjoyable though my colleague gave ma "Meh" since she makes them at home and probably has high bar. It was good for maybe the first 3 or 4, so perhaps better ordered for larger groups. Shepherd Salad (APP, 4/5) - Fresh, bright(as in vinegar), and herbaceous, we added feta cheese to it and it was perfect balance to our entree. Kofte Kebab (MAIN, 4/5) - Not too dry with packed flavor of all the herbs & beef, I really enjoyed my dish. Went great with all the other accouterments such as slightly cinged wedge of tomato and onion slices, all frolicking on a bed of warm rice that had a nice bite. Adana Kebap (MAIN, 4/5) - My colleague had this one, and I tried a piece. It was juicy and had no hint of gaminess which is always a plus for lamb. 3. Service (3/5) - This being a mom & pop store, I think they're short on staff. Usually they're all in the back cooking, so you do need to be a bit patient to flag someone down. But I'm sure they're more attentive during busy hours. (We went during weekday) Overall, Hakki Baba is a solid turkish mom & pop shop that delivers on great authentic flavor at a reasonable price. In the sea of turkish restaurants in Cliffside Park area, this one is one of my favorite. Pay them a visit!

The bread could be better (served fresher and a bit fluffier). The octopus salad is mouth wateringly delicious. The chicken shish kebab is perfect every single time and is probably the juiciest chicken I've ever had at any restaurant. The sides it's served with deliver an orgasmic bite. Adana kebab is also consistently good. The first time I had the veal chops they were incredibly delicious. The texture and flavor of the meat were perfect and went so well with the bread and sides. However, the next time I ordered the same dish, the meat was dry and not as flavorful. Being that it's one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, I think it's important for them to maintain consistency. I usually go during the day or early evening and every time I've gone, the ambiance has been laid back and relaxing. Service is always friendly and welcoming despite the language barrier. Only thing I'd change is maybe spend less time staring at the customers while they're eating or walking to the bathroom. It can be a bit weird and uncomfortable.

My friend enjoyed his espresso. They also have some savory options that I would try on a future visit.,
